Transfer mechanism for a machine for making metal blanks The present invention relates to a transfer mechanism for a machine for making metal blanks.
Known machines for manufacturing metal blanks, in which several dies are aligned horizontally and in which the blanks are progressively machined in a horizontal direction, are provided with a transfer mechanism comprising a carriage which passes by means of fingers gripping the workpieces from one die to another, by a translational movement at the same time as the fingers rotate to reverse the position of the blank.
The transfer mechanism according to the invention is characterized by a guide path extending longitudinally with respect to the support and composed of superimposed rails mounted on the support, by a carriage rolling on this guide path using rollers to groove some of which bear against the top of the upper rail and the others of which bear against the underside of the lower rail, the gripping fingers extending downward from the carriage to a position below the rails, and through a positive dis to move the carriage relative to the dies.
An embodiment of the mechanism which is the subject of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a plan view (certain parts being cut away) of a machine comprising the claimed mechanism.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2. FIG. 4A is a fragmentary view, on a larger scale, of a device for compensating for the wear occurring between the track of the carriage and the rollers carried by the carriage.
Fig. 4B is a section taken along line 4B-4B of FIG. 4A.
Fig. 4C is a section taken along line 4C-4C of FIG. 4A.
Finally, fig. 5 is a section taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 1.
In the drawing, the frame 10 of a blank making machine supports a tool frame 11, a row 12 of dies, a main shaft 13, a rod 14 extending forward and serving to lower the cuff. transfer mechanism, a cam mechanism 15 mounted on the frame 11 and serving to move the rod 14, and a screw 16 animated by a reciprocating movement to move the carriage of the transfer mechanism.
In fig. 2 are shown matrices. 17, 18, 19, 20 and 20a. To transfer the workpiece from one die to the next, pairs of transfer fingers 21 are provided, each pair of fingers extending downward from a finger holder 22. Each finger holder is attached to a vertical shaft 24 and extends downward from the latter. The main part of each shaft 24 rotates in a man chon 25.
At the upper end part of the shaft 24, which projects upwardly beyond the sleeve 25, is keyed a toothed sector 26 which, in the embodiment shown, has the shape of a semi-circle ( fig. 1) and which meshes with a horizontal rack 27 fixed to the upper part of a support of the transfer mechanism.
According to fig. 4, the rack 27 is fixed to the upper part of a vertical support 28 which is articulated, by its lower end, by means of a shaft 29 and a bracket 31, to a fixed part of the machine, the shaft 29 being mounted so as to be able to pivot in the square 31. A chu oven support 32 is an integral part of the support 28 and has upper and lower shoulders. Longitudinal rails 33 and 34 are rigidly fixed to these shoulders. The rod-shaped rails 33 and 34 have a round section.
Upper rollers 35 with a groove bear against the upper rail 33 and lower rollers 36 with a groove bearing against the rail 34. The axes of the rollers 35 and 36 are fixed to a flat carriage 37, the arrangement being such that this carriage (thus that the rollers associated with it) extend on either side of the guide formed by the rails 33 and 34 and can move longitudinally therein.
The upper rail receives two upper rollers and the lower rail two lower rollers. The left face (FIG. 4) of the flat carriage 37 bears against the sleeves 25 of the different pairs of fingers, and these sleeves are rigidly fixed to the carriage. The guide rails are located in the immediate vicinity of the rear face of the carriage (fig. 4).
It is understood that, as the carriage 37 moves along the support, the toothed sectors 26 engage with the rack 27 and rotate the fingers gripping the blank on their axes, which means that, because the fingers turn 1800, the blank position is reversed.
The rod 14, driven by a reciprocating movement, extends forward in the direction of the support 28, and the front end of said rod is coupled to the upper part of the support by an axis of articulation 38. The back and forth movement of the rod determines the pivoting of the transfer mechanism on its articulation axis 29 to the position in phantom shown in FIG. 4, so that when passing from one station to another, the blank-holder fingers move away from the face of the dies.
There can also be a pivoting movement of the transfer mechanism on said axis, so as to leave free access to the tools, with a view to adjustment, repair or replacement.
The reciprocating rod 16, actuated from the main shaft 13, performs the required displacement of the carriage 37. At the front end of the rod 16 is mounted, in an adjustable manner, a yoke 39 (fig. 3) which is coupled, in an adjustable manner, to the rear end of a 1st rack 40 (fig. 1). The rack 40 extends horizontally in a casing 41 comprising, on the side facing the transfer mechanism, a removable cover plate 42. The rack 40 can slide forward and backward in the casing 41, at a location close to the cover plate 42.
The rack has an internal toothed face with teeth 43 cut on a vertical sleeve 44 (figure) which can rotate in the housing 41 by means of ball and roller bearings; a vertical shaft 45 can rotate in this sleeve. At the lower end of this shaft, below the casing, is fixed a crank 46 carrying a crank pin 47 which can rotate in a block 48 articulated at 49 to a connecting rod 50 extending from the shaft 45 in the direction of the transfer mechanism. The opposite end of the connecting rod 50 (FIGS. 1 and 2) is coupled at 51, in an adjustable manner, to a member fixed to the adjacent end of the carriage 37.
Thanks to these couplings, the carriage is driven in a reciprocating motion, so as to advance the fingers carrying the blank along the dies, as the rack 40 is driven by a movement. reciprocating, from the main shaft 13, because the reciprocating movement of the rack 40 causes the rotation of the shaft 45 which, through the intermediary of the crank 46 , causes the back and forth movement of the rod 50.
The back and forth movement of rack 40 causes rotation of shaft 45, thanks to the fact that an extension 52 of shaft 45 located beyond the upper part of housing 41 is keyed by a key 53 (FIG. 5) to a collar 54 surrounding the shaft and comprising a lower rim 55 which a pin 56 makes integral with a rim 57 which the sleeve 44 has, at the upper end of the latter. The lower end of the pin 56 engages a shallow conical recess machined in the flange 57, to make the collar 54 integral with the sleeve 44.
The axis 56 is made normally integral with the sleeve 44 by virtue of the action of a spring 58a helically wound on a collar 58 and exerting downward pressure on the axis 56. The mechanism described constitutes a coupling normally engaged between the toothed drive sleeve 44 and the shaft 45 operating the link, but if for some reason a blank gets stuck in the machine and can cause parts to break, the the axis of the coupling, due to the excessive pressure exerted on the transfer carriage, separates from the sleeve,
thus stopping the oscillation of the shaft 45 and the reciprocating movement of the carriage 37, even if the movement of the actuating rack 40 continues.
As a result of the inertia of the parts, stopping the transfer mechanism by disconnecting the coupling between the driving toothed element (sleeve 44) and the driven shaft, as described above, is not necessary. not instantaneous, and it is desirable to also stop the whole machine if a blank creates excessive resistance. In order to obtain this result, the present machine is constructed in such a way that, when the axis 56 becomes detached from the sleeve, a switch is actuated to stop the electric motor for driving the machine.
In this embodiment, the lower edge of the collar 58 supports a plunger 59 which overhangs it and is compressed by a spring, this plunger being able to control an electric switch 60 normally closed. In this arrangement, the upward disengagement movement of the shaft 56 causes the plunger 59 to rise and the switch to open to stop the motor.
Figs. 4A, 4B and 4C show a take-up device for u: sure between the rails 33 and 34 of the guide of the carriage and the rollers carried by the carriage which bear against the guide. As will be seen in FIG. 2, the lower rollers 36 of the carriage are mounted so as to allow their adjustment with respect to the carriage, and one of these devices is shown in FIG. 4A.
The roller 36 is mounted on a pivot comprising parts 61 and 62 whose axes are slightly offset with respect to each other, each of these parts being joined to an eccentric 63 (FIG. 4C), the part 61 being engaged in a bore made in the carriage 37 and the part 62 constituting a support on which the roller 36 is mounted so as to be able to rotate. A nut 64 immobilizes part 61 in position, on the front face of the carriage, and a nut 65 immobilizes the roller in position on part 62.
A shaft 66, integral with eccentric 63, extends downward between bosses extending downward on the carriage (Fig. 4A). In one of these bosses is mounted a plunger 67 compressed by a spring and placed in a sleeve 68 extending through the boss. The plunger 67 normally maintains the arm 66 in the position shown in FIG. 4A.
In this position of the parts, the eccentric 63 occupies a position such that the roller 36 is held firmly in contact with the lower surface of the lower rail 34, the roller in fact being articulated and resiliently biased against the lower rail. , which ensures continuous contact between the roller and the rail.
Opposite the plunger compressed by the spring, on the other boss projecting downwards from the carriage, there is a locking screw 69 fixed in position in an adjustable manner by a nut and whose end the inner end is slightly spaced from the lower end of the arm 66. When the machine is running, the locking screw 69 is inoperative, but when the carriage, for some reason, moves away from the head portion of the machine, the arm 66 carried against this locking screw so as to prevent the roller shaft from being pushed or forced out suddenly away from its assembled position in the carriage.
The transfer mechanism described above, mounted above the dies and arranged to allow the workpiece to be reversed when the gripping fingers are moved from one die to another, is simple in structure and can be used. manufactured at a relatively low cost when considering the functions it performs. The carriage carrying the fingers is of a relatively simple shape and can be moved longitudinally relative to the dies without friction or abnormal jamming, while being supported in a robust and efficient manner by the front extension provided for this purpose on the articulated support .
The mechanism described has a small footprint and prevents any damage to the parts of the machine if a blank gets stuck in the machine.
