Process for the production of 2,2'-difluoro-acedianthrone The present invention relates to a process for the production of the 2,2'-difluoro-acedianthrone by bis (2'-fluoro-9'-anthronylidene-10 ') - ethane or ethylene treated with agents that cause the ring closure to the acedianthrone.
The ring closure can be carried out by conventional methods by heating with acidic condensing agents such as aluminum chloride, sulfuric acid, chlorosulfonic acid, preferably in the presence of an oxidizing agent such as per sulfuric acid, sulfur trioxide or in an organic solvent such as nitrobenzene or tetrachloroethane, in the presence of an acid anhydride or acid chloride, such as phosphorus pentoxide, acetic anhydride and (or sulfuric acid).
The 2,2'-difluoro-acedianthrone obtainable by the present process is a valuable brown vat dye which is suitable for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials, but in particular natural and regenerated cellulose fibers and as a pigment. The dye is particularly suitable for printing and gives strong, true brown prints which are distinguished from the prints obtained with 2,2′-dichloroacedianthrone by better lightfastness.
In the following example, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example The starting material is prepared as follows: a) 2-fluoro-anthrone-9 In a solution of 3000 parts of 20% aqueous ammonia and 120 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution , 30 parts of copper sulfate and 65 parts of 4'-fluoro-2-benzoylbenzoic acid (illustration: American Chemical Society, 46, 1947 [1924]) are slowly added to 260 parts of zinc dust and the whole is heated to the boil.
A gentle stream of ammonia gas is then passed through the mixture for 45 hours. The residue is then filtered off, the filtrate is acidified with hydrochloric acid and the precipitated 4'-fluoro-diphenylmethane-2-carboxylic acid is isolated by filtration.
For the ring closure, the product is dissolved in 10 to 20 times the amount of 96% sulfuric acid, wel cher 1% copper powder has been added, and the solution is stirred for 20 hours while passing a stream of nitrogen at room temperature. Then the whole thing is poured onto ice and water, filtered and the neutral washed product dried at 50 in a vacuum.
b) bis (2'-fluoro-9'-anthronylidene-10 ') -ethane 25 parts of 2-fluoro-anthrone-9 and 18 parts of glyoxal sulfate are in 200 parts of glacial acetic acid 1/2 Heated to 100 for an hour. The orange-red product which has precipitated is filtered off with suction and washed with acetic acid and water. It dissolves in sulfuric acid with a blue-green color.
2,2'-Di f luoro-acedianthron To carry out the process according to the invention, 15 parts of the product prepared under b) are in 113 parts by volume nitrobenzene, 8.25 parts by volume Sulfuric acid 96 / a and 36 parts by volume of acetic anhydride within one hour to 120 and stirred for 1/2 hour at 120.
The mixture is then cooled to 100 and the precipitated 2,2'-difluoro-acedianthrone is filtered off. It is a red-brown powder that dyes and prints a real red-brown on cotton.
The ring closure can also be done by means of another known ring closure method for Acedianthrones, such as. B. aluminum chloride melt, alkali melt with subsequent sulfuric acid treatment.
