EMI0001.0011

Process for the preparation of anthraquinone vat dyes The present invention relates to new, valuable anthraquinone vat dyes, namely to linear polyanthrimide carbazoles which contain at least four anthraquinone nuclei and at least one acylamino group in para @ position to a carbazole-NH group.
Such a new dye is, for example, that of the formula
EMI0001.0011
These new dyes can be produced by treating linear polyanthrimides which contain at least four anthraquinone nuclei and at least one acylamino group in the para position to an inthrimide bridge with earbazolating agents.
Linear polyanthrimides that are used as starting materials according to the present process are those composed of at least four anthraquinone nuclei, in which all anthrimide bonds are in the 1,4-position (p-position, lun (r) to stand by each other,
-so that in each case the 4-position of one anthraquinone nucleus is connected to the 1-position of the next by an -NH group. At least one of the two terminal anthraquinone nuclei contains an acylamino group, also in the p-position to the anthrimide bond.
The use of polyanthrimides which contain four to six anthrachinone nuclei is particularly useful, with valuable results being achieved with tetranthrimides in particular.
Furthermore, it is generally advisable to use polyanthrimides which are substituted by an acylamino group on both terminal anthraquinone nuclei, each in the p-position to the anthrimide bridge.
Preference is given to those polyanthrimides whose acylamino groups correspond to the formula NH-OC-R, in which R is an aromatic radical from the naphthalene series or, preferably, from the benzene series, for example an unsubstituted or a suitable one z. B.
benzene radical substituted by halogene atoms such as chlorine. For example, the polyanthrimides can be substituted by a benzoylamino group, an o-, m- or p-chlorobenzoylamino group, an o-fluorobenzoylamino group, and also by a-naphthoylamino or p-phenylbenzoylamino group.
The polya.nthrimides used as starting materials in the present process can be prepared by methods known per se by reacting α-aminoanthra.ehinones with α-haloanthraquinones. For example, 4,4 "'- diacylamino-1,1'-4', 1" -4 ", 1" '- t.etraiithrimide by condensation of 1,1l01 4,4'-diamino-1,1 '-dianthrimide obtained with 2 moles of a 4-halo-1-aeylaminoantlirquinone.
Further linear polyanthrimides which can be used as starting materials in the present process and which contain a single acylamino group can be seen by condensation of 1-amino-4-halogenanthraquinone, in particular 1-amino-4-ehloranthra: quinone, with themselves and the following. Establish acylation.
The products obtainable in this way represent mixtures which, however, essentially consist of anthrimides containing at least four anthraquinone nuclei.
The condensations to give the Polvanthrimids can be carried out by customary methods known per se. In those cases where the common solvents such as nitrobenzene have too weak a solvent power, which is particularly the case with starting materials. which already contain several anthraquinone nuclei in the molecule, applies, higher hydrocarbons, such as. B. anthracene or phenanthrene are used as solvents.
According to the present method, in particular the various combinations of aluminum chloride with fluxes known per se can be used as stabilizing agents. In individual cases it can be questioned to what extent these fluxes form molecular compounds with aluminum chloride.
Such fluids include aromatic compounds such as nitrobenzene, inorganic compounds such as sodium chloride or sulfur dioxide, optionally alone or in combination with one another. As a rule, advantageous results are obtained when using A.luminium chloiRd with the addition of a tertiary base, e.g. B. a hydroxyl-free tertiary base such. B. triethylamine. Particularly suitable. but are cyclic bases such.
B. quinoline or acridine and especially pyridine bases such as pyridine itself and 'its closest homologues, e.g. B. Methylpyridine like. a-picoline or mixtures of pyrindine bases such as the technical ss, y-picolingemiseh.
The Carbazolieruug, the polyanthrimide can advantageously take place at temperatures that are about. between 120 and 180 C. When using pyridine altiminium halide, temperatures of about 7.40 ° C. are particularly advantageous, while the pieolines, for example, also allow the reaction to be carried out at higher temperatures (up to about 180).
Depending on the 'K'ahl of the condensation agent and the reaction temperature, certain differences can be seen in the properties of the product obtained, especially in the case of pentane brimides and higher anthrimides, e.g. B. in terms of the hue of it. produced vat color.
The reaction mixture can be worked up in a customary manner, for. B. by making the reaction mixture alkaline after the dilution with water with alkali metal hydroxide. and with. Sodium hypochlarite treated or by adding a suitable reducing agent such as sodium hydrosilicate, the dye obtained is vat. and then by oxidation, e.g. B. by means of air separates.
At the. In the present processes, the theoretically possible carbazole ring closings take place almost completely with the tetranthrimides and at least halfway with the higher anthrimides, and the above-mentioned differences in the properties of the end products are undoubtedly largely due to the fact that, depending on the implementation conditions, the calcium carbazolieining more or less complete.
Accordingly, the vat dyes obtainable according to the present process correspond to the general formula
EMI0003.0001
where n is an integer greater than 1, and K (, in the hydrogen atom or an acylamino group and at least half of the radicals
EMI0003.0006
Atom groupings of the formula
EMI0003.0008
and the rest of these radicals are atomic groups of the formula
EMI0003.0011
represent "where, if appropriate, individual hydrogen atoms can be replaced by substituents.
These new dyes can be used as pigments. But they are particularly suitable. for dyeing and printing a wide variety of fibers, especially cellulosic fibers such as cotton, linen, rayon and rayon made from regenerated cellulose. One obtains, even after the so-called hot dyeing process,
That means at a dye bath temperature of about 600 and using strongly alkaline vats, strong, predominantly gray to gray-brown dyeings, which are valuable due to their color tone, especially the good match of the color tone on different cellulose-containing materials, as well as their fastness properties: are.
In the following examples, if. nothing else is noted, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Example 1 35 parts of aluminum chloride are slowly entered into 70 parts of pyridine with stirring. After entry, 7 parts of 4,4 "'- dibenzoylamino-1,1'-4', 1" -4 ", 1" '- tetranthrimide are added to this melt and the temperature is increased to 138 to 140 within 45 minutes.
