Automatic lathe refueling device The object of the present invention is a refueling device for an automatic lathe comprising a headstock intended to rotate and advance step by step a bar. machine with a view to machining series of identical parts at the end of said bar, using tools located at the front of said headstock, in which a pusher, movable axially in a positive guide device intended to be placed at the rear of the headstock, serves to press against the posterior end of the bars in order to avoid any recoil when the headstock, having arrived in its extreme forward position,
releases said bar and moves back to take hold of it again and move it forward with a new step, during the machining of a part at its end, and in which a driving device acts on said pusher at the moment when the latter is arrived in its most advanced position, to bring it back to its most remote position.
Consideration has already been given to equipping automatic lathes of this type with a refueling device arranged so as to automatically bring a new bar to be machined in said headstock, when the previous bar has been completely machined. As there generally remains in these towers an unusable bar end, which is relatively long, it is not possible to remove this bar end from the front of the lathe; it must be removed from the rear. For this, it has already been proposed to arrange the pusher so that it drives with it the end of the bar remaining in the doll, when it moves back under the action of said drive device. Such a refueling device for an automatic lathe is described in patent No. 350854.
The aim of the present invention is to create a refueling device in which the means for connecting said pusher to the bar to be machined are particularly simple, both by virtue of their shape and of their use. According to the invention, the pous evening comprises two parts, one of which is intended to be fixed to the rear end of the bars to be machined, and the other of which is fixed to the end of said evening pus, the one of these parts being hollow and the other having a neck and a head, this head being intended to be housed in said hollow part behind a shoulder of this part.
An embodiment of the refueling device according to the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a general and simplified elevation view of a tower of which said refueling device constitutes said embodiment; fig. 2 is a partial view of certain elements of this device, illustrating the way in which a bar is fixed to said pusher, and FIG. 3 is an end view of an element of FIG. 2.
The automatic lap shown in FIG. 1 com takes a base 1 in which is mounted the main motor of the lathe, which actuates the doll and all the tools thereof by known means. This base 1 carries a frame 2, on which are mounted a doll 3, a support 4 and an auxiliary device 5. The pulley 3 comprises a spindle driven in rotation from the main motor of the lathe by a belt (not shown) passing. through the frame 2 and engaged on a pulley (not shown) integral with said spindle. The latter comprises a clamp capable of closing on a bar to be machined 6 so as to drive this bar in rotation and to move it axially.
To perform this last movement at the said bars, the doll 3 is mounted on a slide 7 of the frame 2 of the lathe and it is subjected to the action of a powerful return spring (not shown), which tends to move it. axially towards the rear of the lathe, that is to say towards the right in FIG. 1. The forward movement of this doll 3 is controlled by a camshaft parallel to the axis of the doll and rotatably mounted on the base 2, at the rear of the lathe.
To actuate the doll 3, this shaft carries a cam (not shown) acting on a rocker 8 which pivots about an axis parallel to that of the lathe and which extends from the rear to the front of the frame 2 of this last. An angled lever 9 located in front of the lathe pivots around a stud 10 under the action of the rocker arm 8. At one of its ends, this rocker arm carries a beak which rests on said cam, and at its other end, it acts on a roller 11 rotatably mounted at the end of one of the arms of lever 9.
The other arm of this lever 9 carries a pin 12, against which a plate 13 fixed to the body of the doll is kept in contact under the action of the spring of the doll 3. In order to allow the adjustment of the two extreme positions before and rear of the doll 3, the body of the latter carries a slide 14, on which the plate 13 is mounted. Furthermore, the lever 9 carries an adjustment screw 15, which makes it possible to modify the height position of the pin 12 , and thus adjust the length of the axial stroke of the tailstock 3.
The support 4 integral with the frame 2 carries slides in which sliders 16 are mounted. Chisels 17 are attached to the latter so as to be arranged in a fan shape on the support 4.
By moving in their slide, the sliders 16 thus bring the chisels 17 against the end of the bar 6, approximately along a radius thereof. The axial displacement of the slides 16 is controlled, upwards, by strong return springs (not shown), and, downwards, by rocker arms 18 carrying micrometric adjustment screws 19, with the aid of which the positions extremes of the chisels 17 can be precisely adjusted.
In order to avoid any bending of the part of the bar 6 which extends to the front of the headstock 3, when the chisels 17 are brought into the working position, the support 4 carries a barrel 20, fixed or mobile, in which is engaged the bar 6.
The fan-shaped chisels 17 are thus used to machine the lateral faces of the parts that are to be manufactured at the end of the bar 6. While these chisels only advance, then retreat radially, the headstock 3 drives the bar 6 in rotation and causes it to advance under the action of said chisels, through the barrel 20.
While the chisels 17 make it possible to shape the side faces of the parts to be manufactured at the end of the bar 6, tools carried by the auxiliary apparatus 5 make it possible to perform machining operations coaxially with said parts, from their anterior end. These tools of the apparatus 5 can be bits, drills, taps or dies, as one sees one of them at 21. Each of these tools is mounted in a rotating spindle of the apparatus 5, this spindle being itself. even rotated in a movable part of said device, which is arranged so as to be able to bring each of said pins in the axis of the doll. For this purpose, the movable part of the apparatus 5 can be a seesaw or a revolver drum.
At the moment when one of the tools of the apparatus 5 must come into operation, a cam (not shown), carried by said shaft located behind the base 2, first of all brings the spindle of this tool in the axis of the headstock, then another cam of said shaft actuates a rocker arm, which advances the spindle located in the axis of the headstock in the direction of the part being machined, thus bringing the tool carried by this spindle into position of work. Like the chisels 17, the tools of the apparatus 5 successively come into operation according to a cycle determined for each part to be manufactured. It is quite clear that the tools of the apparatus 5 can work at the same time as some of the chisels 17.
The tools of the apparatus 5 can be kept im mobile since the bar 6 is rotated by the doll 3; they can also be driven themselves in rotation by belts 22, in the opposite direction to that of the bar 6, or in the same direction, at a different speed.
When the chisels 17 and the tools of the apparatus 5 have completed their cycle of operations, one of the chisels 17 is fully engaged, so as to separate from the bar 6 the part which has just been machined. This chisel then remains in this position until the lathe is ready to undertake a new cycle of operations. Previously, the clamp of the doll 3, which has reached its extreme front position, opens and the doll 3 moves back under the action of its return spring, of a length exactly equal to that of the parts to be manufactured. When this doll 3 has come into its extreme rear position, its clamp closes on the bar 6 and the lathe is then ready to start again the machining of a new part.
For this, it suffices for the chisel 17, which was fully engaged, to withdraw again from the path of the bar 6, so that the doll 3 can advance this bar through the barrel 20, and place it under the action of chisels 17 and appliance tools 5.
As the bars 6 are very long in relation to their diameter, a guide and feed device is associated with the lathe described, as can be seen in FIG. 1. This device is mounted on a foot 23. It comprises a frame 24 supported at its front end by the base 2 of the lathe. A revolving drum 25 is pivoted on the frame 24. This drum comprises several tubes, each of which can contain a bar to be machined; they thus form a store.
The one of these tubes which occupies the upper position of the drum 25 is located in the axis of the headstock 3 and it serves to guide and support the bar 6 which is being machined. The guiding and feeding device described further comprises a pusher 26 in each tube of the drum. These pous evenings are each composed of a rod housed in one of the tubes of the drum 25 and of a butterfly passing through a longitudinal slot of said tubes. A drive member 27 is coupled to the butterfly lon of the pusher 26 contained in the upper tube of the drum 25, so as to maintain this pusher against the rear face of the bar 6 during machining.
So that the latter does not move back with the headstock 3 at the end of a cycle of operations of the lathe, but remains in good contact with the swimming section chisel, it is important that the pusher 26 exert sufficient pressure towards the left in fig. 1, on the bar being machined. For this, the dragging member 27 is carried by an endless chain 28 mounted on two chain wheels 29, 30, located respectively at the front and at the rear of the guide device. This chain 28 is subjected to the action of a servomotor 31 which can advantageously consist of a small asynchronous motor with high slip (about 20%). This motor, of known type, has the effect of exerting a relatively large force on the chain 28, when starting.
In addition, it can withstand relatively long downtimes without damage, while remaining energized. This means that this motor 31 drives the chain 28 as soon as the pusher 26 allows the member 27 to advance to the left in the fia. 1, that is to say when the doll itself moves towards the front of the lathe. In other words, while the bar 6 is being machined, the pusher 26 continuously presses with a determined force against this bar. When the latter has been completely machined, the member 27 passes around the wheel 29 and the motor 31 then pushes back the push 26 from its extreme front position into an extreme rear position.
At this moment, the drive organ 27 leaves said pusher and passes over the wheel 30, by actuating a release lever 32 which allows the drum 25 to advance by one step under the action of a counterweight. 33. During this movement, the next tube of the drum 25 then arrives in the upper position and the drive member 27 grasps the pusher of this new tube, when the motor 31 has made it pass around the wheel 30. and tends to move it again to the left in the fi. 1.
If the motor 31 exerts a relatively large torque on the member 27 at the time of starting, this torque is however not sufficient to extract from the barrel 20 the end of the bar 6 which has become unusable, when the chain 28 begins to pull the member 27 towards the rear, after the passage of the latter around the wheel 29. The tailstock 3 supports the action of the servo motor 31, at the moment when the latter must bring out the end of the unusable bar 6 of the barrel 20. For this , the lathe comprises a rod 34 slidably mounted in a support 35 fixed to the frame 2 of the lathe. A return spring 36, stretched between the support 35 and the rod 34, causes the latter to press against the doll 3. This means that this rod 34 follows the movements of the doll 3.
A device 37 is arranged so as to transmit the backward movements of the rod 34 to the pusher 26, at the moment when the member 27 begins to pull this pusher towards the rear of the guide device, that is to say to the mo ment where said pusher must release bar 6 from barrel 20.
The bar ends thus removed from the barrel 20 and from the headstock 3 are brought to the rear of the corresponding tube of the drum 25, and they remain in this position, since in the next advancing movement of the member 27, the latter Ci grabs the pusher of another tube, which still contains a bar.
When all the bars of the drum 25 have been machined, the pushrods of each of these tubes are in their extreme rear position, each with a piece of bar that cannot be used. The lathe must then be stopped and each of these bar ends must be replaced by hand with a new bar, in order to allow the lathe to work entirely independently for a relatively long time.
To perform the functions described above, each of the pushers mounted in the tubes of the drum 25 comprises a rod 38 housed in one of these tubes, this rod 38 having an end 39 of smaller diameter. In order to ensure the necessary connection between this rod 38 and the bar to be machined 6, which is located in said guide tube, a sleeve 40 having a cylindrical wall 41 and a bottom 42 is engaged on the thinned end 39 of the push rod and it is made integral with this rod by a pin 48.
A window 43 is made in the wall 41. As can be seen in particular in FIG. 3, this window extends approximately over 1800. Finally, a longitudinal notch 44 is made radially in the bottom 42 on this sleeve 40, up to beyond the axis of this rod.
Furthermore, a part 45 having a head 46 and a neck 47 is engaged on the threaded end of the bar 6, so as to be made integral with this bar. The thread of the latter is naturally oriented with respect to the direction of rotation of the doll so that the part 45 tends to screw more onto said bar, when the latter is rotated.
As seen in fig. 2, the length of the head 46 is greater than the width of the window 43 measured in a direction parallel to the axis of the rod 38. It follows that this head 46 cannot pass through said window, when the part 45 and sleeve 40 are kept parallel to each other. To introduce the head 46 into the socket 40, on the contrary, one of the two parts must be inclined with respect to the other, as seen in FIG. 2. When this head 46 has been placed in the position shown in said figure, it suffices to pivot for example the part 45 with the bar 6 around this head 46, in order to bring the bar 6 into the axis of the rod 38 of the pusher.
At this moment, the neck 47 is housed in the notch 44 and the head 46 is axially trapped in the sleeve 40.
When the pusher 26 moves towards the front of the lathe, the end face of part 39 of its rod presses against the head 46. As the part 45 rotates with the bar 6 relative to the rod 38, the end face 50 of this part 39 is cut into a cone and the head 46 also has a conical point 51, the opening angle of which is at most equal to that of the cone of the face 50.
When the pusher 26, on the other hand, moves towards the rear of said guide device, the head 46 of the part 45 is driven by the bottom 42 of the sleeve 40, which constitutes a shoulder. When the bar 6 is in place in a guide tube of the drum 25, as well as the rod 38 of the pusher, these two parts cannot take an inclined position with respect to one another. This means that the head 46 cannot accidentally come out of the sleeve 40 during the machining of the bar 6, as could be the case with other means of fixing the pusher 26 to the bar 6, when the outer diameter of said bush is smaller than that of the corresponding guide tube.
To load the drum 25, it suffices to screw a part 45 at the end of each of the bars to be machined which one wishes to place in the tubes of the drum, after having previously threaded the end of these bars. These are then passed through the longitudinal slot of the tube by first placing the head 46 in the sleeve 40, as seen in FIG. 2. When all the bars of the drum 25 have been machined, they are released from the corresponding pushers by a reverse movement and the bar ends are unscrewed from the parts 45, which can then be attached to new bars.
