Feeding device for an automatic lathe The object of the present invention is a feeding device for an automatic lathe intended to machine series of identical parts at the end of a bar to be machined driven in rotation by a headstock of the lathe. , comprising a guide device constituted by a revolver drum comprising a reserve of bars to be machined and a drive device with pushers for successively pushing each of the bars of said drum into the headstock of the lathe, an endless chain always actuated in the same direction and a coupling member connecting said endless chain to the pusher of the bar being machined.
The object of this invention is to create a device of this kind which ensures the step-by-step advance of said drum by means which are of simple construction and operation. For this, the device according to the invention is characterized in that said drum is subjected to the action of a counterweight which tends to make it rotate in a determined direction, so as to cause each of the bars to pass through it. axis of the headstock, in that an escape mechanism retains said drum in angular positions such that said bars lie successively in the axis of the headstock, and allows the counterweight to cause this drum to pass from one of said positions angular to the next, when the bar located in the axis of the headstock, in the first of said angular positions, is completely machined,
and in that said endless chain carries a member actuating said escapement mechanism at each turn of said chain.
One embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown, schematically and by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a general and simplified elevation view of a lathe equipped with the device constituting this embodiment; fig. 2 is a view on an enlarged scale of part of said device, and FIG. 3 is a section along the line III-III of FIG. 2.
The automatic lap shown in FIG. 1 com takes a base 1 in which is mounted the main motor of the lathe, which actuates the doll and all the tools thereof by known means. This base 1 carries a frame 2, on which are mounted a doll 3, a support 4 and an auxiliary device 5. The pulley 3 comprises a spindle driven in rotation from the main motor of the lathe by a belt (not shown) passing. through the frame 2 and engaged on a pulley (not shown) integral with said spindle.
The latter comprises a clamp capable of closing on a bar to be machined 6 so as to drive this bar in rotation and to move it axially.
To perform this last movement at the said bars, the doll 3 is mounted on a slide 7 of the frame 2 of the lathe and it is subjected to the action of a powerful return spring (not shown), which tends to move it. axially towards the rear of the lathe, that is to say towards the right in FIG. 1. The forward movement of this doll 3 is controlled by a camshaft parallel to the axis of the doll and rotatably mounted on the base 2, at the rear of the lathe.
To actuate the doll 3, this shaft carries a cam (not shown) acting on a rocker arm 8 which pivots about an axis parallel to that of the lathe and which extends from the rear to the front of the frame 2 of this latest. An angled lever 9 located in front of the lathe pivots around a stud 10 under the action of the scorer butt 8. At one of its ends, this rocker arm carries a spout which rests on said cam, and at its other end, it acts on a roller 11 rotatably mounted at the end of one of the arms of the lever 9. The other arm of this lever 9 carries a pin 12, against which a plate 13 fixed to the body of the doll is held. in contact under the action of the doll's spring 3.
In order to allow the adjustment of the two extreme positions, front and rear of the doll 3, the body of the latter carries a slide 14, on which the plate 13 is mounted. Furthermore, the lever 9 carries an adjustment screw 15, which makes it possible to modify the height position of the pin 12 and thus to adjust the length of the axial travel of the headstock 3.
The support 4 integral with the frame 2 carries slides in which sliders 16 are mounted. Chisels 17 are attached to the latter so as to be arranged in a fan shape on the support 4.
By moving in their slide, the sliders 16 thus bring the chisels 17 against the end of the bar 6, approximately along a radius thereof. The axial displacement of the slides 16 is controlled, upwards, by strong return springs (not shown), and, downwards, by rocker arms 18 carrying micrometric adjustment screws 19, with the aid of which the positions extremes of the chisels 17 can be precisely adjusted.
In order to avoid any bending of the part of the bar 6 which extends to the front of the headstock 3, when the chisels 17 are brought into the working position, the support 4 carries a barrel 20, fixed or mobile, in which is engaged the bar 6.
The fan-shaped chisels 17 are thus used to machine the lateral faces of the parts that are to be manufactured at the end of the bar 6. While these chisels only advance, then retreat radially, the headstock 3 drives the bar 6 in rotation and causes it to advance under the action of said chisels, through the barrel 20.
While the chisels 17 make it possible to shape the lateral faces of the parts to be manufactured at the end of the bar 6, tools carried by the auxiliary apparatus 5 make it possible to perform machining operations coaxially with said parts, from from their anterior end. These tools of the apparatus 5 can be bits, drills, taps or dies, as one sees one in 21.
Each of these tools is mounted in a rotating spindle of the apparatus 5, this spindle itself being pivoted in a movable part of said apparatus, which is arranged so as to be able to bring each of said spindles in the axis of the doll. . For this purpose, the movable part of the apparatus 5 can be a seesaw or a revolver drum.
At the moment when one of the tools of the apparatus 5 must come into operation, a cam (not shown), carried by said shaft located behind the base 2, first of all brings the spindle of this tool in the axis of the headstock, then another cam of said shaft actuates a rocker arm, which advances the spindle located in the axis of the headstock in the direction of the part being machined, thus bringing the tool carried by this spindle into position of work. Like the chisels 17, the tools of the apparatus 5 successively come into operation according to a cycle determined for each part to be manufactured. It is quite clear that the tools of the apparatus 5 can work at the same time as some of the chisels 17.
The tools of the apparatus 5 can be held stationary since the bar 6 is rotated by the doll 3; they can also be driven themselves in rotation by belts 22, in the opposite direction to that of the bar 6, or in the same direction, at a different speed.
When the chisels 17 and the tools of the apparatus 5 have completed their cycle of operations, one of the chisels 17 is fully engaged, so as to separate from the bar 6 the part which has just been machined. This chisel then remains in this position until the lathe is ready to undertake a new cycle of operations. Previously, the clamp of the doll 3, which is left bare in its extreme front position, opens and the doll 3 moves back under the action of its return spring, of a length exactly equal to that of the parts. manufacture. When this doll 3 has reached its extreme rear position, its clamp closes on the bar 6 and the lathe is then ready to start again the machining of a new part.
It suffices for this that the chisel 17, which was fully engaged, is still withdrawn from the path of the bar 6, so that the doll 3 can advance this bar through the barrel 20, and place it under the action of the chisels. 17 and the tools of the device 5.
As the bars 6 are very long compared to their diameter, a guide and feed device is associated with the lathe described, as can be seen in FIG. 1. This device is mounted on a foot 23. It comprises a frame 24 supported at its anterior end by the base 2 of the lathe. A revolver-drum 25 is pivoted on the frame 24. This drum comprises several tubes, which can each contain a bar to be machined; they thus form a store. The one of these tubes which occupies the upper position of the drum 25 is located in the axis of the headstock 3 and it serves to guide and support the bar 6 which is being machined. The guide and feed device described further comprises a pusher 26 in each tube of the drum.
These pushers are each composed of a rod housed in one of the tubes of the drum 25 and of a butterfly passing through a longitudinal slot in said tubes. A drive member 27 is coupled to the butterfly valve of the pusher 26 contained in the upper tube of the drum 25, so as to hold this pusher against the rear face of the bar 6 during machining. So that the latter does not move back with the headstock 3 at the end of a cycle of operations of the lathe, but remains in contact with the cutting chisel, it is important that the pusher 26 exerts sufficient pressure towards the left in fig. 1, on the bar being machined.
For this, the drive member 27 is carried by an endless chain 28 mounted on two chain wheels 29, 30, located respectively at the front and at the rear of the guide device. This chain 28 is subjected to the action of a servomotor 31 which can advantageously be constituted by a small asynchronous high-slip motor (approximately 20%). This engine of known type has the effect of exerting a relatively large force on the chain 28, when starting. In addition, it can withstand relatively long downtimes without damage, while remaining energized.
This means that this motor 31 drives the chain 28 as soon as the pusher 26 allows the member 27 to advance to the left in FIG. 1, that is to say at the moment when the doll itself moves towards the front of the lathe. In other words, while the bar 6 is being machined, the pusher 26 continuously presses with a determined force against this bar.
When the latter has been completely machined, the member 27 passes around the wheel 29 and the motor 31 then moves the pusher 26 back from its extreme front position to an extreme rear position described below. At this moment, the drive member 27 leaves said pusher and passes over the wheel 30, by actuating a release lever 32 which allows the drum 25 to advance by one step under the action of a counterweight 33 in a manner described below. During this movement, the next tube of the drum 25 then arrives in the upper position and the drive member 27 grasps the pusher of this new tube, when the motor 31 has made it pass around the wheel 30 and tightens to move it again to the left in fig. 1.
If the motor 31 exerts a relatively large torque on the member 27 at the time of starting, this torque is however not sufficient to extract from the barrel 20 the end of the bar 6 which has become unusable, when the chain 28 begins to pull the member 27 towards the rear, after the latter has passed around the wheel 29. The tailstock 3 assists the action of the servo motor 31, at the moment when the latter must remove the end of the unusable bar from the barrel 20. For this , the lathe comprises a rod 34 mounted in a smooth neck manner in a support 35 fixed to the frame 2 of the lathe. A return spring 36, stretched between the support 35 and the rod 34, causes the latter to press against the doll 3. This means that this rod 34 follows the movements of the doll 3.
A device 37 is arranged so as to transmit the backward movements of the rod 34 to the pusher 26, at the moment when the member 27 begins to pull this pusher towards the rear of the guide device, that is to say at the moment when said pusher must release the bar 6 from the barrel 20.
The bar ends thus withdrawn from the barrel 20 and from the headstock 3 are brought to the rear of the corresponding tube of the drum 25 and they remain in this position, since in the next forward movement of the member 27, the latter grabs the pusher of another tube, which still contains a bar.
When all the bars of the drum 25 have been machined, the pushers of each of these tubes are vented in their extreme rear position, each with an unusable bar end. The lathe must then be stopped and each of these bar ends must be replaced by hand with a new bar, in order to allow the lathe to work entirely independently for a relatively long time.
The members ensuring the step-by-step advance of the drum 25 are shown in detail in FIGS. 2 and 3, in which the pusher 26 of the tube 25a, which occupies the upper position of the drum 25 and is in the axis of the headstock of the lathe, is returned to its extreme rear position by an arm 27b attached to an element 27a attached to the endless chain 28, after being driven forward by these elements 27a and 27b then moving along the upper end of chain 28. Durant this forward movement, the arm 27b carrying a pin 40 drives the pusher 26 by engaging said pin under a nose 38 of the pusher formed by a cutout 39 of the butterfly thereof.
After the element 27a has passed around the chain wheel 29, the stud 40 falls to the bottom of the cutout 39 and engages behind an ear 41 of the pusher 26, behind which it remains trapped during the entire time that the element 27a moves along the lower end of chain 28 and until it arrives in the position shown in FIG. 2, in which it comes into contact with an inclined ramp 42 of a wing formed on a ring 51 forcibly engaged around the tubes of the drum 25.
For this purpose, this ring is oriented around the drum 25 so that each of its wings is located in the vicinity of one of the longitudinal slots of the tubes of the drum 25 providing passage for the butterflies of the pushers 26.
By climbing the ramp 42, the stud 40 is gradually released from the lug 41, until the moment when it passes over this lug and completely comes out of the opening 39. At this time, the pusher 26 is located at the rear end of the longitudinal slot of the corresponding tube of the drum 25, which coincides with one of the faces of the ring 51.
After leaving the pusher 26, the drive members thereof approach the chain wheel 30, around which the element 27a will rotate to return to the front of the drum 25, along the upper strand chain 28.
Before passing over the wheel 30, however, the element 27a encounters a tail 43 which the lever 32 has and it swings this lever around a bearing screw 44, against the action of a spring 45. During this movement, a tooth 46 of the lever 32 emerges from a toothing 48 formed on the rear face of the ring 51 fixed to the drum 25 and a tooth 47 of the lever 32 enters this toothing.
It can be seen in particular in FIG. 3 that the counterweight 33 attached by a wire 49 to a block 50 engaged in the tube 25a of the drum 25 tends to rotate this drum counterclockwise in FIG. 3, because the wire 49 passes around a tip 52 engaged in the central body of the drum 25 and serving to pivot the latter on a tenon 53 integral with the frame 24.
The action of the counterweight 33 thus has the effect of maintaining the tooth 48a of the ring 51 against the tooth 46 of the lever 32 while the pusher of the tube 25a passes from its extreme rear position to its most advanced position. , during the machining of the bar 6 contained in this tube 25a, then returns to its extreme rear position, when this bar has been completely machined.
When the lever 32 rocks when the element 27a passes, the tooth 47 of this lever 32 enters the space between the teeth 48a and 48b of the ring 51, before the tooth 46 of the lever 32 releases the tooth 48a of this ring.
When the element 27a has tilted the lever 32 by an angle sufficient to move its tooth 46 away from the tooth 48a, the drum 25 jumps half a step under the action of the counterweight 33, until that the tooth 48b of the ring 51 comes into contact with the tooth 47 of the lever 32. When the element 27a then leaves the lever 32, and engages the chain wheel 30, the tooth 46 of this lever returns in the The space between the teeth 48a and 48b of the ring 51 and its tooth 47 gradually leaves this space, finally freeing the tooth 48b which falls against the tooth 46 of the lever 32 under the action of the counterweight 33.
During the described oscillation of the lever 32, the drum 25 advances by one step and its tube 25b takes the place of the tube 25a. When the element 27a begins to move forward, along the upper strand of the chain 28, the stud 40 of the arm 27b engages under the nose 38 of the plate of the pusher 26, to pull the latter. and the bar to be machined contained in the tube 25b towards the front, so as to bring this bar into the machining position.
The device shown finally comprises a guide rod 54 mounted on the frame 24 and placed so that the arm 27b cannot move away laterally when it begins to move forward after having turned around the wheel. 30, to. not to miss pusher 26.
