Machine tool automatic refueling device and method of activating this device The present patent relates, on the one hand, to an automatic machine tool refueling device intended to machine series of identical parts by cycles of consecutive operations from bars of material, in which an assembly comprising a new bar of material to be placed in the machine and drive members for this bar, is moved in the direction of the machine tool, and other go,
a method of activating this device to ensure the automatic refueling of a machine tool comprising a clamp having jaws intended to grip the bars of material in order to ensure their drive during the machining of the parts, this clamp being open at a specific time in each machine operating cycle, to allow material to be fed into each part.
There are already many such automatic refueling devices. So that the new bars always arrive in the machine in the position which allows the latter to machine a first complete part at their end, until now there was no other way than to stop the operations of the machine at a precise moment in the cycle and throughout the time of placing a new bar. This stop had to be carried out in particular when the clamp intended to grip and drive the new bar, was open and when the stop member, which limits the advance of the bar after each part, was furthermore fully engaged in the path. of this bar.
However, this stopping of the machine's operations when the elements of the refueling device, which ensure the automatic placement of a new bar, begin to function, first of all involves close interaction between the machine and the device. supply and, in addition, the presence, in the latter, of special control devices, which complicate the installation and start-up and which risk, by their defection, always possible, to cause trouble or damage more or less serious.
An attempt has also been made to use automatic refueling devices such as that indicated at the beginning, in particular with automatic lathes with sliding headstock, without stopping the operations of the lathe during the installation of a new bar. As this is generally provided by an electric motor, which drives an endless chain and removes, through it, a pusher with a remainder of bar which has become unusable, by moving this pusher from the front of the refueling device to the back of it, where the endless chain abandons the removed pusher and grabs a new one to make it advance a new bar of material in the headstock of the lathe and make it press on this bar during all its machining,
the electric motor used should be chosen relatively small, so that the lathe performs several empty cycles during refueling. As the feeding device is independent of the lathe and its functions are not synchronized with the operations of the lathe, it can therefore happen that the new bar enters the clamp of the headstock when the latter has already been open for some time. and will soon close.
Since sliding headstock lathes typically include a guide bush in front of the headstock, new bars are often gripped by the headstock clamp, with their front end located somewhere between the headstock and the guide bush or at the tip of the headstock. inside of it. If during its advance during the next cycle of lathe operations, the headstock does not bring the anterior end of the bar to be machined into the tool field, the fact of not having stopped the lathe operations during refueling does not cause any disturbance. Indeed, the whole cycle of operations of the lathe which follows the instant at which the clamp of the headstock grips the new bar of material is carried out empty.
When said clamp opens again at the end of this cycle, the pusher acting on the new bar of material then generally causes the front end of the latter to arrive against the stop member limiting the advance of the bar. , this member being generally constituted, in sliding headstock lathes, by the parting off chisel. When the headstock clamp closes again, the new bar of material is properly in place and a complete first part can be machined in the next cycle of operations.
If, on the other hand, the headstock clamp grips the new bar of material at a time when its front end is very close to the working field of the tools, the lathe then machines an incomplete first part at the end of the new bar of material. .
Besides the fact that the presence of such incomplete parts generally requires special sorting, it can also have the drawback of damaging the tools of the machine to a greater or lesser extent. Damage can indeed occur in particular in the case where a drill bit to be centered must prepare a drilling carried out by a tool (bit, drill) mounted on an auxiliary device located in front of the headstock. If a new bar of material has not been placed in the desired position, the drill bit to be centered does not reach this bar, when a first part is machined at its end.
The drilling tool then comes into contact with a rough face, that is to say not pointed and there is a risk of breaking or of distorting the anterior end of the bar of material, which could cause it to break. of all the tools coming into operation afterwards on this end of the bar and even distorting the parts of the machine, provided for guiding this bar.
The aim of the present patent is to create a refueling device which allows the machine to be left running during the operations of automatic installation of a new bar and which avoids the drawbacks mentioned above.
The device according to this patent comprises, on the one hand, a stop control member, which is placed in the path of the assembly comprising the bar and which causes this assembly to stop at a determined distance from the machine. -tool, when this assembly comes into contact with it, and on the other hand, a restart control member, which is actuated by the machine tool at a given moment in its operating cycle and which then causes restarting said assembly in the direction of the machine tool, after this assembly has been stopped by said stop control member.
Thanks to these two control members, the soul born of a new bar of material in the machine tool is synchronized with the operations of the latter.
Since in machines comprising a clamp for clamping the material, this clamp is closed during the greater part of the cycle of operations, the process according to the patent makes it possible to dispense with carrying out a delicate adjustment of the position of the stop control device. It suffices to adjust the location of the latter as well as the moment of the cycle of operations of the machine at which the restart control member is actuated to bring the front end of the new bars of material against the jaw of the clamp closed, after actuation of the restart control member has started the assembly comprising the new bar of material.
In cases where the opening times of the material clamp are so short, that the motor acting on the assembly comprising the bar fails to bring this bar all at once into the installation position. definitive, which allows the machining of a first complete part at the end of this bar, means for adjusting the power of the motor can be advantageously provided, so that the motor brings the new bars into the correct position in one whole number of steps approximately equal to each other.
An embodiment of the device according to this patent is shown by way of example in the appended drawing, which also illustrates an example of implementation of the process according to this patent.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of said embodiment, and FIGS. 2 and 3 illustrate said example by showing two successive positions of certain members of FIG. 1.
The refueling device shown in des sin is associated with an automatic lathe with sliding headstock. This lathe comprises a doll 1, mounted to slide in a slideway 2 of a bench 3, under the action of means not shown. The doll 1 contains a rotating spindle 4, which includes a collet 5. The opening and closing of this collet 5 are controlled by a cam 6 with lugs 7, 8, wedged on a camshaft 9 ensuring the synchronization of all the operations of the tour. The lug 7 of the cam 6 causes the clamp 5 to close when it comes into contact with a finger 10 fixed to the end of an arm 11 integral with a tilting bridge 12 and causes this arm 11 to descend.
The resulting movement of the bridge 12, a longitudinal groove 13 of which drives a shoe 14 fixed to the end of an arm 15, causes a stirrup 16 to tilt around a vertical axis. This caliper acts in a known manner on a sleeve coaxial with the pin 4 and engages a part of the latter under the closing dogs of the clamp 5; during this downward movement of the arm 11 under the action of the ear 7, an arm 17, also integral with the bridge 12, brings a finger 18, fixed at its end in the path of the ear 8 of the cam 6, which opens the clamp 5, by pushing this finger 18 out of its way and bringing the finger 10 back into the path of the ear 7.
The lathe also comprises a guide bush 19 (fig. 2 and 3) mounted in a support (not shown) fixed to the bench 3 in front of the headstock 1. This bush 19, axially immobile, supports the part of the bar of material which is engaged in the field of action of tools 20 of the lathe. These tools can be constituted by radial chisels arranged in a fan shape and mounted on slides guided by slides fixed to the support of the barrel 19, as well as by axial tools mounted on a device placed opposite the headstock 1. The operations of all these tools are controlled by cams (not shown) wedged on the shaft 9.
The device ensuring the supply of this lathe firstly comprises a drum 21 rotatably mounted on a frame independent of the bench 3 of the lathe. This drum 21 comprises several guides 22 of the tines each to support the rear part of a bar of material 23 during machining. For this, a counting device (not shown) retains the drum 21 placed under the action of a weight 24 in successive angular positions such that one of the guides 22 of the drum 21 is at each step aligned with the spindle 4 .
A pusher comprising a rod and a butterfly 25 is associated with each of the guides 22, the rod of the pusher being located inside this guide and the butterfly 25 protruding outside, passing through a longitudinal slot of the guide. . The guide pusher aligned with pin 4 is connected to an endless chain 26 by a connecting member 27. Two wheels 28, 29, mounted, one above the rear end and the other above the rear end. above the front end of the drum 21 are used to guide the chain 26. The latter is intended to always move in the same direction, indicated by arrows, under the action of an electric motor 30. When the 'connecting member 27 is on the upper end of chain 26, the latter pulls the pusher forward, in the direction of doll 1.
The motor 30, which is preferably chosen with high slip to avoid any heating during the stopping times of the pusher, makes the latter press against the rear end of the bar 23 during machining, throughout the machining of the latter, until the moment when the connecting member 27 rotates around the wheel 29. At that time, there remains of the bar 23 only an unusable end. After having rotated around the wheel 29, the link member 27 begins to pull the pusher towards the rear of the drum 21, moving along the lower end of the chain 26. During of this </ I> movement, the unusable end of the bar 23, which is axially connected to the pusher, is withdrawn with the latter.
When the connecting member 27 is about to turn around the wheel 28, it abandons the butterfly 25 of the pusher which had been actuated, then acts on the device for counting the drum 21, so as to allow the weight 24 to move it forward one step and bring the next guide 22 in the alignment of the spindle 4. After having turned around the wheel 28, the connecting member 27 returns to the upper strand of the chain 26 and moves forward again.
At the start of this movement, he grasps the butterfly of the pusher associated with the new guide aligned with the pin 4 and advances the new bar of material 23, previously introduced into this guide in a manner not shown, in the direction of the doll 1, in to ensure the machining.
Before the new bar of material arrives in place in the headstock 1, control members forming part of an electric circuit acting on a switch 31 connected to the supply line 32 of the motor 30 are however actuated. This circuit comprises two relays 33, 34 and three contacts 35, 36, 37. The first two contacts are mounted in series in the supply circuit of the coil of the relay 33. The contact 35, normally open, constitutes a control member. stop command; it is placed in the path of the connecting member 27, at a well-determined location described below.
As for the contact 36, normally closed, it constitutes a restart control member and is placed under the action of a cam 38 wedged on the shaft 9 in a suitably adjusted position.
When the connecting member 27 arrives under the contact 35 and closes the latter, the relay. 33 is energized, which has the effect of opening contact 37 and cutting off the supply circuit of the coil of relay 34. Switch 31 therefore opens. Closing the contact 35 in the position shown in FIG. 1 thus has the effect of: stopping the motor 30 and consequently immobilizing the movable assembly comprising the chain 26, the connecting member 27, the pusher attached to this chain and the bar of material 23 of the guide 22 aligned with pin 24.
Since the revolution with which the described refueling device is associated works continuously, the top 38a of the cam 38 at some point arrives on the contact 36 and opens it. The coil supply circuit of relay 33 is consequently open. Contact 37 falls back into the position shown in FIG. 1, so that the relay 34 is again energized and the switch 31 closed, which restarts the motor 30 and therefore the assembly comprising the chain 26, the member 27, as well as the pusher and the bar 23 associated with this member 27.
The motor 30 thus remains running until the moment when the connecting member 27 has made a complete revolution around the wheels 28, 29 and returns to the position shown in FIG. 1.
The described embodiment assumes that the bars 23 to be machined on the described lathe all have approximately the same length. By choosing therefore suitably the location of the contact 35, which ensures the stopping of the motor 30, it is possible to bring about this stopping when the front end of the bar 23, driven by the chain 26, is at a distance well determined has jaws of the clamp 5 of the spindle 4. This stop position of the bar 23 is shown schematically in FIG. 2.
The cam 38 is moreover oriented in such a way around the shaft 9 that its nose 38 a actuates the contact 36 and thus restarts the motor 30 at a moment of the operating cycle of the lathe such that the motor 30 causes the anterior end of the bar 23 surely behind the closed jaws of the gripper 5, as seen in FIG. 3.
To be put in place definitively, the bar 23 must be further advanced by a length b from the position of the fi-. 3, until its front face abuts against the parting off tool shown in FIG. 3, which is found engaged in the path of the bar, at the start of a new round of operations.
In most cases, the clamp 5 is open during the passage from one operating cycle to the next for a time long enough to allow the motor 30 to advance the bar 23 of the length b at one time.
If, in a particular case, the working conditions of the lathe were such that the motor 30 does not have the force, during an opening time of the clamp 5, to advance the bar 23 by the length b, it it would suffice to adjust the force of the motor 30, for example using a potentiometer (not shown), so that this motor causes the bar 23 to travel the distance b in a number of approximately equal steps, each of these steps being taken during the passage from one cycle of operations from one lathe to the next, during the opening of the clamp 5. The pressure that the pusher must exert on the bar during machining, during the machining of this last, does not need to be extremely precise.
This means that the force of the motor 30 can be regulated between relatively wide limits. The adjustment condition stated above can therefore be achieved without difficulty.
As the opening times of the clamp 5 must, during the normal operation of the lathe, allow the headstock 1 to move back a distance corresponding to the length of a workpiece, to ensure the correct advance of the machine. material, it is obvious that the opening times of the gripper 5 will always be long enough to allow the motor 30 to advance, with each opening of the gripper, a length of bar greater than the length of the workpieces. This means, in the case where the distance b has to be covered in several steps, that each of these steps, and in particular the last, has a length greater than that of the parts to be machined.
As a result, after the penultimate step, the bar will certainly not yet have reached a position such that the headstock 1 brings the front end of the bar into the field of action of the lathe tools, at the during the next cycle. These tools therefore do not run the risk of starting the machining of an incomplete part during this last idle cycle of the lathe. Instead of the stop control contact 35 being placed in the path of the member 27, it could naturally also be placed in the path of the throttle 25.
In the event that bars of very different lengths should be fed automatically by the device described in the headstock 1 of the lathe, a motor stop member 30 could also be placed in each of the guides 22 of the drum 21 or in the inside the spindle 4 to react to the wise pitch of the anterior end of the new bar of material, so as to stop the latter with the members which drive it at a well-determined location with respect to the lathe and to allow the return running of the motor 30, so that the latter advances the bar in synchronism with the operations of the lathe.
In certain applications, in which the clamp 5 remains open for a relatively long time, it may also not be essential to provide a stop for the bar behind the closed clamp of the pin 4, as shown in FIG. 3. In this case, the member placed under the control of an element of the machine ensuring the synchronization of its operations would restart the motor 30 at such a moment that this motor would succeed in passing the bar at once. of the position shown in FIG. 2 up to that where the front end of the bar abuts against the member ensuring the limitation of the advance of the bar, during normal operation of the machine.
Organs equivalent to contacts 35 and 36 could also be provided in the case where the means ensuring the drive of the bars of material to be fed automatically into the machine tool are not constituted by an electric motor, but for example by a device for pneumatic or hydraulic control. In this case, these equivalent organs could be valves.
Finally, it is obvious that the cutting device described can be used under the same conditions with fixed headstock lathes or multi-spindle lathes and in general with any machine tool intended to machine bars of material, and to produce series of identical parts by consecutive operating cycles.
