Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 Method for manufacturing a timepiece dial with added signs and dial obtained by this method The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a timepiece dial with added signs and to the dial obtained by this method ; the latter is characterized by the fact that the dial plate and the sign are finished separately, the latter being provided on its underside with a projection whose section by a plane parallel to the surface of the dial plate is weak compared to a similar section of the body of the sign, then electrically welds the sign to the plate, the protrusion in question softening and becoming one with the latter.

  The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, a particular implementation of the method according to the invention.

  Fig. 1 shows a finished dial plate and fig. 2 is a section through 11-1I of FIG. 1. FIG. 3 shows a sign placed on the dial plate, and FIG. 4 is a section through a variant of this sign.

  The dial plate shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a metal base 1 on which have been affixed successively a silver layer 2 and a protective layer 3, for example of zapon, the thickness of these layers being deliberately exaggerated in FIG. 2. The signs 4 to be fixed on this plate are metallic and include (see fig. 3) a body 4a with a rectangular radial section; they have on their lower face two points 4b which, when the sign is pressed against the plate, pass through the insulating layer 3 and come into contact with the metal base 1; we can then weld the sign to it, electrically, the tips softening and forming a body with the latter.

  In the variant of FIG. 4, the points 4b are replaced by a coat 5, with a thin wall, going around the base of the sign.

  The section of the points 4b or of the mantle 5 by a plane parallel to the dial plate is very small compared to a similar section of the body of the numeral, in order to oppose a great resistance to the passage of the electric current; these points and this coat, moreover, are sharp in order to easily cross the layer of zapon.
