Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>
 Method of fixing elements in relief on a support When fixing metal elements and, in particular, hour signs in relief on a metal support, for example on a dial plate by means of electric resistance welding, it is it is notorious that the molten metal of one of the parts to be assembled spurts out around the base of the sign, forming a bead or a burr that is detrimental to the desired aesthetic effect.

  We tried to avoid this drawback by providing, on one of the two faces intended to come into contact, a projection whose contact face is smaller than the base of the element to be attached and, in the other face, a cavity, a lateral play being provided between the projection and the cavity. The bead which then forms during welding is supposed to find sufficient space in the space between the projection and the cavity.

  The object of the present invention is to make it possible to fix elements in relief, for example metal or plastic hour signs on a support, which may be conductive, or a non-conductive one, for example to a metal dial plate or made of material. plastic, and to avoid any formation of unsightly beads or any deterioration of an insulating layer which could have been applied to one of the two elements to be connected, for example the layer of zapon which is usually provided on the surface of the dials.

  To this end, the method which is the subject of the present invention is characterized in that the elements are connected to their support by the application of ultrasound.

  This method has the great advantage of allowing the attachment of elements in relief, for example hour signs, decorations, marks, symbols, feet, etc., on a support such as a dial, in the finished state, it that is to say polished, stoned, faceted or others, as well as arched when it is, for example, time signs intended to be fixed on already domed dials.

  On the other hand, this method has the advantage of not requiring any prior preparation of the support to receive the elements in relief, as provided by the cavity mentioned in the known method indicated above.

  Finally, this method also makes it possible to fix elements made of non-conductive material to a support which is also non-conductive.

  The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, an implementation of the method according to the invention.

  Fig. 1 shows, in section, a time sign placed on a dial plate before its attachment to the latter.

  Fig. 2 shows the element alone seen from the side, and FIG. 3 shows the same element seen from the front. We have designated in. the drawing, by 1 an element in relief, for example a time sign, and by 2 a support constituted by the plate of the dial. On its face intended to come into contact with the support 2, the element 1 is provided with several points 3. These points could be replaced by bosses, by a groove, by a knurling or by ridges.

   By applying the ultrasound source to the element 1 and simultaneously pressing the support 2 against the element by means of an inert mass, a molecular burst occurs which intimately binds the element 1 to the support 2. where an attachment of the element to the support which is similar to that obtained by resistance welding, but without the disadvantages of the latter and which are mentioned above.

  Of course, the same process is possible with non-metallic elements and a support, for example of plastic. It goes without saying, moreover,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 that this method can also be applied to the fixing of fixing elements, for example feet to the dial, to the plate or to an element of the box.
