Machine à perforer des cartes La présente invention a pour objet une machine à perforer commandée à l'aide de touches, dans laquelle les cartes à statistiques portent des colonnes de positions de perfora tions, et où les perforations s'effectuent co lonne par colonne, sous la commande de touches susceptibles d'être manipulées à la main.
Le but principal de l'invention consiste à améliorer le fonctionnement d'une telle ma chine en la munissant de dispositifs de com mande perfectionnés servant à perforer auto matiquement des chiffres prédéterminés, par exemple des zéros, à gauche de la valeur ex primée. Lorsque l'on utilise des cartes per forées, une zone ou champ comportant un certain nombre de colonnes est affectée à la réception de sommes d'ordres variés. Par exemple, dans une zone à sept colonnes, on peut perforer des sommes telles que 764321, 876 ou 5. Il est de pratique courante, lorsque l'importance du nombre est inférieure au nom bre total de colonnes de la zone, de perforer des zéros dans les colonnes situées à gauche, de telle sorte qu'un signe se trouve dans chaque colonne de la zone.
Ainsi, pour une zone à sept colonnes, les sommes ci-dessus se trouveraient perforées sous la forme 0764321, 0000876 et 0000005.
La machine comporte un dispositif-pro- gramme coordonné avec le mécanisme d'avan- cement de la carte à statistiques et avec le clavier, de telle sorte que, lorsque la pre mière colonne d'une zone se trouve prête à être perforée, l'opérateur enfonce la touche de chiffre correspondant au nombre de posi tions d'ordres dans la somme qu'il y a lieu de perforer. Le fonctionnement de cette tou che provoque la perforation automatique d'un certain nombre de zéros dans la zone ,pour constituer le nombre nécessaire de zéros.
L'opé rateur enfonce ensuite les touches d'après la somme à enregistrer, et cette somme se trouve perforée dans les colonnes situées à droite de la zone. Ainsi, à propos du nombre 764321 mentionné dans les exemples ci-dessus, la manoeuvre de la touche 6 provoquera la per foration d'un zéro.
Pour la somme 876, la man#uvre de la touche 3 entrainera la per foration de quatre zéros, et pour la somme 5 la manipulation de la touche 1 provoquera la perforation de six zéros. Ces zéros sont perforés rapidement à la suite et sans inter ruption, amenant en position de perforation la première colonne destinée à recevoir la per foration de la somme. Le dessin représente, à titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution de la machine à perforer selon l'invention. La fig. 1 est une coupe partielle de cette forme d'exécution.
La fig. 2 est une coupe du détail d'un embrayage.
La fig. 3 est une coupe représentant les organes essentiels du mécanisme de clavier. La fig. 3a est une vue de détail des élé ments de la fig. 3 représentés en cours da fonctionnement.
La fig. 4 représente un détail du méca nisme de lecture d'une carte-programme.
La fig. 5 représente le mécanisme d'en traînement et d'échappement de l'alimentation en cartes.
La fig. 6 représente en élévation le méca nisme d'entraînement de l'alimentation en car tes. La fi-. 7 est une coupe selon 7-7 de la fig. 6 et montre le dispositif à friction consti tuant une partie du mécanisme d'alimentation en cartes. Les fig. 8 et 8a réunies constituent un schéma simplifié de circuit électrique de cette forme d'exécution. La fig. 9 est une vue de la carte-programme. La fig. 10 représente une carte à statis tiques, perforée sous la commande de la carte- programme de la fig. 9.
La machine représentée présente plusieurs organes usuels connus.
<I>Clavier</I> Si l'on se réfère aux fig. 3 et 3a, on voit que la touche 10, dont il existe un exemplaire pour chacun des chiffres, est montée pour fonctionner verticalement dans le bâti généra lement désigné par 11 et, par l'intermédiaire d'un levier coudé 12, entraîne vers la gauche une biellette 13. L'extrémité de gauche de cette biellette est montée à pivot sur le levier coudé, et son extrémité de droite vient s'en gager dans un cran ménagé dans un élément 15 monté à pivot en 16 sur une glissière verti cale 17.
L'élément 15 est normalement en traîné dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre autour de son pivot 16 par un ressort 18 et possède un épaulement 20 engagé dans une barre 21 pour le maintenir dans la position représentée sur la fig. 3. Lorsque l'on enfonce la touche 10, la biellette 13 est entraînée vers la gauche, emmenant avec elle l'extrémité su périeure d'un élément 15, libérant ainsi son épaulement de la barre 21. Ensuite, le res sort 22 qui entoure l'extrémité supérieure de la coulisse 17 entraîne la coulisse vers le bas vers la position représentée sur la fig. 3a.
Au-dessous de chacune de ces glissières se trouve une paire de contacts désignés généralement par 23, qui, lorsqu'on libère la glissière ainsi qu'on l'a expliqué, se trouvent fermés comme on l'a représenté sur la fig. 3a. Comme on l'a dit, il existe une touche 10 pour chacun des chiffres, et il y a par consé quent dix contacts 23 représentés sur les fi-. 8 et 8a, où il est indiqué qu'ils corres pondent aux chiffres 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,- 7, 8 et 9.
La glissière 17, lorsqu'on l'a ainsi libé rée, demeure dans sa position de la fig. 3a et ses contacts demeurent par conséquent fer més jusqu'à ce que soit excité l'électro 25 de retour du clavier, après quoi son arma ture 26, montée à pivot en 27, bascule dans le sens opposé à celui des aiguilles d'une montre et amène par déplacement une plaque recourbée 28 en prise avec l'élément 15, sou levant celui-ci vers l'arrière dans sa position de verrouillage le long de la glissière 17, où il demeurera jusqu'à la manoeuvre suivante de la touche.
L'armature 26 porte un disque isolant 30 qui, lorsque l'électro 25 est excité, provoque l'ouverture d'une paire de contacts 25a (fig. 8) dans un but qui apparaîtra ulté rieurement. <I>Mécanisme d'alimentation de la carte</I> Si l'on se réfère à la fig. 1, on voit qu'une carte à statistiques C est guidée de manière à pouvoir se déplacer sur une plaque 33 et avance à l'aide d'une paire de galets d'alimen tation désignés par 34 et 35, galets dont le dernier est un galet mené, tandis que le pre mier est entraîné par un mécanisme que l'on va décrire, de manière à faire passer la carte, colonne par colonne,
en face d'une rangée de poinçons 36 (voir également fig. 6). Le galet d'alimentation 34 est fixé à un arbre 37 (fig. 5 et 6) auquel sont également fixés un engrenage 39 et un rochet d'échappement 40. L'engrenage 39 est entraîné dans le sens op posé à celui des aiguilles d'une montre, comme on le voit sur la fig. 5, par l'intermédiaire d'un train d'engrenages désignés par 41, 42, 43 et 44.
L'engrenage nommé en dernier lieu est fixé à un arbre 47 qui, comme on l'a représenté sur la fig. 7, porte un engrenage 48 monté sur lui pour pouvoir y tourner libre ment. Cet engrenage est entraîné constamment à partir d'une source d'énergie quelconque et est en rotation constante. Sur l'une et l'autre faces du disque 48 se trouve un disque à friction 49, et le dispositif à ressort 50 presse constamment les disques à friction 49 pour les maintenir en contact d'entraînement avec l'en grenage 48.
De ce fait, sous l'action du train d'engre nages que l'on vient de décrire, l'engrenage 39 et le rochet d'échappement 40 qui lui est connecté sont constamment poussés dans le sens opposé à celui des aiguilles d'une montre. Leur déplacement se trouve cependant limité par la venue en prise d'un cliquet d'armature 52 avec les dents du rochet 40. L'électro d'échappement 53, lorsqu'il se trouve momen tanément excité, permet au rochet d'avancer d'un intervalle de dent, de manière à faire avancer la carte d'une colonne. L'électro d'échappement 53, lorsqu'il est excité, ferme une paire de contacts 53a sur lesquels on reviendra ultérieurement.
<I>Entraînement de la carte-programme</I> L'engrenage 42 (fig. 5 et 6) est fixé à un arbre 55 supportant un tambour 57 autour duquel peut être enroulée la carte-programme désignée par P. Comme l'engrenage 42 est situé dans le train entraîné par friction et couplé directement au rochet d'échappement, le tambour 57 tourne par crans pour faire avancer la carte-programme colonne par co lonne, concurremment à l'avance de la carte à statistiques, de sorte que le déplacement des deux cartes s'effectue en synchronisme.
Un dispositif d'exploration ou de lecture est prévu pour chaque position de chiffre de la carte- programme, dispositif qui a la forme d'une roue en étoile 58 à cinq positions (fig. 4). Ceci constitue un dispositif d'exploration bien connu.
La roue en étoile occupe normalement la position représentée sur la fig. 4 et, lors de la rotation du tambour 57, la roue en étoile glisse à travers la. surface de la carte tout en demeurant dans la position représentée. La roue est supportée de manière à pouvoir tour ner par un levier 59 prenant appui sur une tige 60, et elle est poussée dans le sens opposé à celui des aiguilles d'une montre par la venue en prise d'un ressort de contact 62 avec l'extrémité de droite du levier.
Lorsqu'une perforation de la carte-programme arrive sous la roue en étoile, la dent située à droite tombe dans la perforation, provoquant l'oscillation du levier 59 dans le sens opposé à celui des aiguilles d'une montre et provoquant la venue en prise du ressort de contact 62 avec un contact fixe 63. Ces contacts sont générale ment désignés par PC sur la fig. 8, et chacune des paires de contacts distincts PC représentés est en outre désignée par 7, 8, 9, etc., suivant l'index ou position de chiffre de la carte que son mécanisme de commande de roue en étoile est destiné à explorer.
Lorsque 'des posi tions de colonnes successives de la carte- programme sont perforées à la même position de point d'index, la roue en étoile associée 58, après avoir basculé dans la première de ces séries de perforations pour fermer le contact associé PC, passera ensuite par roulement d'une opération à la suivante sans faire osciller le levier associé 59.
Par conséquent, les contacts PC associés demeurent fermés pendant le pas sage de cette série de perforations de la carte- programme. <I>Mécanisme de</I> perforation Le mécanisme de perforation, ainsi qu'on l'a représenté à la fig. 1, comporte les poinçons habituels 36 et, associé à ces poinçons, il existe un levier de commande 65 monté à pivot sur un arbre 66 et supportant un loquet 67 soumis à la pression d'un ressort,
qui est normalement en prise avec une armature 68A d'un électro 68 de perforation et maintenu de ce fait dans la position représentée sur la fig. 1. Après l'excitation de l'électro 68, son arma ture 68A bascule pour libérer le loquet 67, lequel, sous l'action de son ressort 69, bascule ensuite dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre pour amener son extrémité recourbée 71 sous un étrier 72 monté à pivot sur l'arbre 66. Le basculement de chacun des douze loquets 67 fait pivoter un étrier 73 autour de son pivot 74 contre la tension du ressort 75 et ferme une paire de contacts 76.
Ces contacts mettent en action un mécanisme d'embrayage pour pro voquer une oscillation de l'étrier 72, ainsi qu'on va l'expliquer ci-après.
Si l'on se reporte à la fig. 2, on voit qu'une poulie est montée de manière à pouvoir tour ner librement sur un arbre 78 (voir également la fi-. 1) et est entraînée en rotation constante grâce à une source d'énergie appropriée. A l'arbre 78 est fixée une butée d'arrêt 79, et entre la poulie 77 et la butée d'arrêt se trouve un ressort 81 enroulé autour et à distance du prolongement du moyeu de la poulie 77. Une extrémité de ce ressort est fixée à la came d'ar rêt, et l'autre extrémité est fixée à un man chon 82.
Le manchon comporte une butée 83 qui vient en prise avec l'armature 84 d'un électro 86, tandis que la came 79 présente un bord d'arrêt 87 qui vient en prise avec un levier 88 monté à pivot, levier qui est pressé contre l'armature 84 par un ressort de rac cordement 89. Les pièces qui viennent d'être décrites constituent une forme bien connue d'embrayage à une seule révolution et, lorsque les pièces occupent leur position normale et que les deux butées 83 et 87 viennent en prise avec leurs leviers respectifs, le ressort 81 est maintenu en position légèrement ouverte, de sorte que le moyeu de la poulie 77 peut tour ner librement à l'intérieur du ressort.
Après l'excitation de l'électro 86, l'arma ture 84 libère la butée 83, après quoi le res sort 81 fait osciller le manchon 82 jusqu'à ce que le ressort se ferme suffisamment pour saisir le moyeu de la poulie et soit entraîné par ce dernier pour assurer l'entraînement de l'arbre 78 par l'intermédiaire de la came d'ar rêt 79. A la fin d'une révolution, l'électro 73 se trouvant désexcité, le manchon 82 vient heurter l'armature 84 pour rouvrir le ressort 81 et effectuer le désaccouplement des pièces. Les pièces entraînées sont légèrement déportées, de telle sorte que la butée 87 vient à nou veau en prise avec le levier 88, empêchant la fermeture du ressort à boudin.
L'arbre 78 supporte une paire de cames supplémentaires 91 qui entraînent des galets 92 montés sur le bras latéral de l'étrier 72, de sorte que l'étrier est basculé une fois lors de chaque révolution de l'arbre 78. L'arbre 78 supporte également une came (non représentée) servant à commander une paire de contacts désignés par 93, comme on l'a représenté sur le schéma de circuits (fig. 8).
Ce qui précède décrit brièvement le fonc tionnement des éléments de la perforatrice. <I>La carte</I> On a représenté sur la fig. 10 une carte C dans laquelle des perforations sont indiquées en plusieurs zones ou champs, comportant chacune des colonnes multiples. Pour ces zones ou champs, que l'on désire remplir de zéros à gauche de la somme, la carte-pro- gramme P de la fig. 9 est perforée à ses posi tions d'index 7, 8 et 9 comme on l'a représenté.
On supposera qu'une dimension maximum de champ est de sept colonnes, de sorte que la carte-programme comportera la perforation d'un 7 dans chaque colonne d'unités ou co lonne de droite ; un 8 perforé dans la colonne des dizaines ; un 7 et un 8 dans la colonne des centaines ; un 9 dans la colonne des mil liers ; un 7 et un 9 dans la colonne des di zaines de mille ; un 8 et un 9 dans la colonne des centaines de mille ; et un 7, un 8 et un 9 dans la colonne des millions. On remarquera également sur la fig. 9 que chaque colonne, à l'exception de la colonne d'ordre la plus élevée d'un champ, contient également une perforation 12.
Ces perforations 12 ne pré sentent pas d'intérêt pour le fonctionnement, mais elles sont nécessitées par les opérations habituelles de duplication et de saut effectuées par le poinçon.
La manière suivant laquelle les perfora tions de points d'index 7, 8, 9 de la carte- programme commandent la perforation de zé ros dans la carte C sera expliquée à propos du schéma de circuits.
Sur les fig. 9 et 10, les rangées désignées par ligne de lecture et ligne de perfora tion respectivement servent à indiquer qu'il existe un décalage d'une colonne entre les deux cartes en ce qui concerne leur lecture et leur perforation, de sorte que, lorsqu'une colonne quelconque de la carte-programme se trouve à sa ligne de lecture, la colonne correspondante de la carte à statistiques se trouve à un inter valle ou à une colonne de sa position de perforation. <I>Schéma de circuits</I> On comprendra mieux le fonctionnement de la machine en dessinant des circuits parti culiers conformes aux exemples de carte repré sentés sur les fig. 9 et 10.
Supposons que la carte-programme ait été disposée sur le tam- bour-programme et que sa colonne 1 ait été mise à l'alignement des roues en étoile 58 et que la carte à statistiques ait été convenable ment introduite dans la machine et placée entre ses galets d'amenée 34 et 35, sa colonne 1 se trouvant à un intervalle ou pas à droite de la ligne de poinçons 36. On peut alors faire avancer la carte par l'intermédiaire des dispositifs habituels d'espacement (non repré sentés) pour amener la colonne 2 à l'aligne ment des poinçons. L'appareil est maintenant prêt à perforer la valeur 2 dans la colonne 3.
La manipulation de la touche 10 du chif fre 2 représentée sur la fig. 3 ferme les contacts associés 23-2 (fig. 8a) pour complé ter un circuit allant d'une ligne 94 de poten tiel zéro à une ligne 97 sous tension. positive et passant par les contacts<I>25a</I> de retour du clavier, les contacts 23-2, la face normalement fermée des contacts PCP-4 d'un relais désigné par PCP, la face normalement fermée des contacts 96e d'un relais R96, l'électro 68-2 et la face normalement fermée des contacts 96b du relais R96.
Ce fonctionnement de la touche 2, tel qu'on l'a expliqué en se référant aux fig. 3 et 4, libère la coulisse associée 17 pour fermer les contacts 23-2 qui demeurent fermés jusqu'à ce que soit excité l'électro 25 de retour à zéro.
L'excitation de l'électro 68-2 débraie le verrou 67 de la fig. 1 qui lui est associé et provoque la fermeture des contacts 76 qui complètent ensuite un circuit partant de la ligne 94 à travers les contacts 76, un redresseur d'isolement 98 et les contacts 99b d'un relais R99 pour aboutir à la grille d'une lampe Tl, rendant ainsi cette dernière conduc trice en vue d'exciter l'électra d'échappement 53 par l'intermédiaire des contacts à came 93 normalement fermés.
L'excitation de l'électro d'échappement 53 fait avancer la carte d'une colonne de la façon expliquée précédemment et, grâce à la fermeture de ses contacts asso ciés 53a, complète un circuit allant de la ligne 94 à la grille d'une lampe T2 et passant par les contacts<I>53a,</I> lampe qui est de ce fait rendue conductrice pour exciter le relais 99 à travers le contact à came 93. L'excitation du relais 99 provoque la fermeture des contacts 99a qui lui sont associés, et l'ouverture de ses contacts 99b.
L'ouverture des contacts 99b dans le circuit de grille de la lampe<I>TI</I> rend cette dernière non conductrice et désexcite ainsi rapidement l'électro d'échappement 53, de sorte qu'il ne peut servir qu'à faire avancer d'une colonne seulement les cartes à statis tiques.
La fermeture des contacts 99a complète un circuit allant de la ligne 94 à la grille d'une lampe T3, rendant ainsi cette dernière conductrice pour exciter l'électro d'embrayage de perforation 86 par l'intermédiaire du contact à came 93. Le levier de poinçon 65 de la fig. 1 se trouvant associé à la position d'index 2 maintenant couplée à l'étrier 72, l'excitation de l'électro 86 d'embrayage de perforation entraîne une révolution unique de l'arbre 78 de la manière expliquée précédemment. La révolution unique de l'arbre 78 provoque une perforation au point d'index 2 de la colonne 3 de la carte.
Pendant la révolution de l'arbre 78, les contacts associés 93 commandés par came s'ouvrent pour couper les circuits à travers le relais R99 et l'électro 86 d'embrayage de per foration. Un autre circuit se trouve complété dès la fermeture des contacts 76, ce circuit allant de la ligne 94 à travers les contacts 76, et à travers la face normalement fermée des contacts 96k vers la grille d'une lampe T4 pour rendre cette lampe conductrice afin d'ex citer l'électro 25 de retour du clavier, de telle sorte que le clavier est ramené à zéro et que les contacts 23-2 s'ouvrent à nouveau pendant que s'effectue la perforation.
Ce qui précède explique brièvement l'opé ration normale de perforation qui a lieu, étant bien entendu que la colonne à perforer est normalement hors de la position de perfora tion et qu'une action d'échappement a lieu avant la perforation effective, de telle sorte qu'après que la perforation a été effectuée la colonne perforée demeure en alignement avec les poinçons.
Pour obtenir une perforation au point zéro de la colonne suivante (colonne 4), la touche zéro est manipulée pour effectuer la fermeture des contacts associés 23-0. Ces contacts étant fermés, l'électro 68-0 est excité et il en résulte que le point d'index zéro de la colonne 4 de la carte à statistiques est perforé d'une manière identique à celle expliquée pour l'opération de perforation du 2.
Les touches 7 et 1 sont en suite manipulées de la même manière pour effectuer la perforation d'un 7 dans la co lonne 5 et la perforation d'un 1 dans la co lonne 6 de la carte. Les cartes sont alors amenées vers une position où la colonne 11 de la carte-programme se trouve en position de lecture et la colonne correspondante 11 de la carte C se trouve à un intervalle de la ligne de poinçons 36.A propos de la carte de la fig. 10, on supposera que la somme à perforer dans ce champ à sept colonnes con tient sept chiffres, de sorte qu'il n'y a pas à perforer de zéro à gauche,
et l'on va expliquer maintenant les opérations qui ont lieu dans ce cas.
La ligne 11 de la carte-programme se trouvant en position d'exploration, les contacts PC7, PC8 et PC9 de la roue en étoile de la fia. Sa sont fermés et provoquent l'excitation des électros de relais désignés par R7,<I>R8</I> et R9, fermant ainsi les contacts qui leur sont associés, désignés par 9a à 9j pour le relais R9, 8c à 8f pour le relais R8, et 7a à 7c pour le relais R7.
Lorsque l'un ou l'autre des contacts R96<I>ou</I> RSb disposés en parallèle est fermé, un circuit est complété qui va de la ligne 94 à la ligne 97 en passant par les contacts 104a (en position normale) d'un relais<I>R104,</I> les contacts 103b (en position normale) d'un relais<I>R103,</I> soit par les points de contacts R8b ou R96 et ce que l'on appelle le relais<I>R96</I> de déconnexion du clavier. Lors que le relais R96 est excité, la totalité des points de contact 96a<I>à 96k</I> qui lui sont asso ciés sont décalés. Le relais R96 est maintenu excité par son propre point de contact 96a et par le contact 25a de retour du clavier. On notera que l'excitation de l'un ou l'autre des relais R8 ou R9 provoque l'excitation du relais R96.
La colonne<B>11</B> de la carte-programme se trouvant en position d'exploration et les relais <I>R7, R8,</I> R9 et R96 excités comme on l'a expliqué ci-dessus, l'opérateur, conformément aux règles exposées plus haut, enfoncera une touche représentant le nombre de places occu pées par la somme à perforer. Pour l'exemple choisi, ce sera la touche 7 qui, après son enfoncement, provoquera la fermeture des contacts 23-7 de la manière habituelle. Comme à ce moment le relais R96 est excité, ses contacts 96d sont déplacés, de sorte qu'aucun circuit n'est complété en direction de l'électro 68-7.
Un circuit est toutefois complété depuis la ligne 94 à travers les contacts 25a de retour du clavier, les contacts 23-7_, les contacts PCP-3 (en position normale), les contacts 96d (dé placés), les contacts 9d (déplacés), les contacts 8c (déplacés), les contacts 7b (déplacés), à travers un conducteur 102 et la bobine d'ex citation d'un relais R103 dit relais d'arrêt, pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'excitation du relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> provoque la fermeture des contacts R103a qui lui sont associés, et le transfert de ses contacts R103b. Le transfert des contacts<I>8103b</I> ouvre le circuit passant à travers le relais R96 et complète un circuit allant de la ligne 94 à travers la face norma lement fermée des contacts<I>8104a,</I> la face normalement ouverte des contacts<I>8103b,</I> maintenant fermés, à travers un conducteur 105, les contacts R96k (déplacés) vers la grille de la lampe T4, rendant cette dernière conduc trice pour exciter l'électro 25 de retour du clavier et ramener à zéro (ouvrir) les contacts 23-7.
Lorsque l'électro 25 de retour du cla vier est complètement excité, ses contacts associés 25a s'ouvrent et coupent le circuit de maintien en direction du relais R96. Dès que le relais R96 est désexcité, les contacts <I>896a à</I> R96k qui lui sont associés se déplacent, ouvrant ainsi le circuit de grille vers la lampe T4 et rendant de nouveau cette dernière non conductrice. La lampe T4 se trouvant en état de non-conductivité, l'électro 25 de retour du clavier est désexcité pour fermer les contacts 25a de retour du clavier et reconnecter la face commune des contacts 23-0 à 23-9 en direction de la ligne sous tension 94.
Le relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> est maintenu excité par les contacts 8103n qui lui sont associés et les contacts<I>8104b</I> normalement fermés du relais d'arrêt de remise à zéro<I>R104.</I>
L'opérateur enfonce maintenant les touches de la somme à perforer dans le champ de la carte, la première de ces touches étant la touche 3, ce qui entraîne la fermeture des contacts<B>23-3.</B> Grâce à la fermeture des contacts 23-3, un circuit -se trouve complété depuis la ligne 94 jusqu'à la ligne 97 en pas sant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-3. le contact PCP-2 (en position normale), les contacts<B>96e</B> (en position normale), l'électro 68-3 et les contacts R96b. Il en résulte que la carte est avancée puis perforée à la position de point d'index 3 de la colonne 11, de la manière que l'on a décrite précédemment.
En suite, les touches 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 et 9 sont mani pulées successivement pour effectuer les per forations désirées dans les colonnes restantes, comme on l'a représenté sur la fi-.<B>10.</B> La carte-programme va naturellement progressant à travers les colonnes pour permettre une exploration des positions perforées 7, 8 et 9, mais, comme le relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> est main tenu excité et que ses contacts <I>8103b</I> sont transférés, l'achèvement de la lecture d'une perforation 8 ou 9 dans la carte-programme ne peut effectuer l'excitation du relais R96.
Lorsque la dernière colonne (17) du champ de la carte-programme arrive en- position de lecture, seule une perforation 7 'est lue sur la carte-programme et il en résulte que seul le relais R7 de la carte-programme est excité.
Le relais R7 se trouvant excité, la fermeture d'un contact 107 par l'intermédiaire d'une came supportée par l'arbre 78 complète un circuit allant de la liane 94 à la ligne 97 et passant par les contacts R9a normalement fermés, les contacts Réa normalement fermés, les contacts R7a normalement ouverts (main tenant fermés) et le relais d'arrêt<I>R104</I> de retour à zéro.
L'excitation du relais<I>R104</I> provoque l'ouverture de ses contacts<I>8104b</I> normalement fermés, et le transfert de ses contacts<I>8104a.</I> L'ouverture des contacts <I>8104b</I> ouvre le circuit de maintien en direc tion du relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> pour désexciter ce dernier. Le relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> se trouvant désexcité et les contacts<I>8103b</I> de celui-ci occupant leur position normale,
on peut de nouveau réaliser le circuit d'excitation en di rection du relais R96 lors de la lecture d'une perforation d'index 8 ou 9 dans la carte- programme. Le redresseur shunté autour du relais<I>R104</I> d'arrêt de retour à zéro retarde la désexcitation du relais<I>R104</I> après l'ouver ture des contacts R7a jusqu'à ce que le relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> ait été effectivement désexcité. La machine se trouve maintenant en état de perforer la somme suivante dans la carte.
La carte progresse maintenant sous l'ac tion des dispositifs habituels de mise en place (non représentés), vers une position où la colonne 23 de la carte-programme est en posi tion d'exploration, tandis que la colonne cor respondante 23 de la carte C se trouve à un intervalle de la ligne de poinçons 36. Du fait de la lecture des perforations 8 et 9 sur la colonne 23 de la carte-programme et de l'excitation des relais R8 et R9 qui en résulte, le relais R96 se trouve excité à nouveau. Comme il y a lieu de perforer dans ce champ une somme occupant trois places, l'opérateur enfonce d'abord la touche 3 pour fermer les contacts 23-3.
Ceci complète un circuit allant de la ligne 94 à la ligne 97 et passant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-3, les contacts PCP-2 (en position normale), les contacts<I>896c</I> (déplacés), les contacts R9c (déplacés), le conducteur<B>108,</B> le redresseur d'isolement 109 et l'électro 68-0.
L'électro 68 du chiffre zéro libère son loquet de perforation 67 pour fer mer les contacts 76 comme auparavant, ce qui entraîne le fonctionnement de l'électro d'échap pement 53 et de l'électro 86 d'embrayage de perforation, de telle sorte que la carte à sta tistiques C est avancée d'une colonne et qu'un zéro est perforé dans une colonne 23.
Cepen@ dant, cette action ne s'accompagne pas de l'excitation de l'électro 25 de retour du clavier parce que les contacts R96k de la fig. 8a sont déplacés de telle sorte qu'aucun courant en provenance de la ligne 94 n'est appliqué à la grille de la lampe T4. Il en résulte que les contacts 23-3 demeurent fermés et que le cir cuit passant à travers l'électro 68-0 demeure complété pour effectuer une opération auto matiquement répétée de l'échappement et du mécanisme de perforation pour perforer des zéros dans les colonnes 24, 25 et 26.
Dans la colonne 27 de ce champ ou zone de la carte-programme P, la perforation a lieu dans les positions 7 et 8, et cette colonne se trouve en position de lecture tandis que la perforation de zéros s'effectue dans la colonne 26 de la carte à statistiques C.
Par conséquent, les relais R7 et R8 se trouvant maintenant excités, il existe un circuit supplémentaire qui peut être tracé de la ligne 94 à la ligne 97 en passant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-3, les contacts PCP-2 (en position normale), les contacts R96c déplacés, la face normale ment fermée des contacts R9c, les contacts R8d déplacés, les contacts R7b déplacés, le conducteur 102 et la bobine d'excitation du relais d'arrêt<I>R103.</I> Le relais<I>R103</I> est main tenu à travers ses propres contacts<I>8103a</I> et les contacts<I>8104b</I> normalement fermés.
Le relais<I>R103</I> se trouvant excité, ses contacts <I>8103b,</I> lors de leur transfert, complètent un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant à tra vers la face normalement fermée des contacts <I>8104a,</I> les contacts<I>8103b</I> (déplacés), le conducteur 105, la face normalement ouverte des contacts R96k (encore déplacés) pour aboutir à la grille de la lampe T4, rendant ainsi cette dernière conductrice ,pour exciter l'électro 25 de retour du clavier.
Par consé quent, accompagnant la perforation de zéro dans la colonne 26, s'effectue l'excitation de l'électro 25 de retour du clavier, de sorte que les contacts 23-3 s'ouvrent de nouveau après que la colonne 26 a été perforée. De même, du fait de l'excitation de l'électro 25, les contacts 25a de retour du clavier s'ouvrent et interrompent le circuit de maintien en direc tion du relais R96. Le relais R96 se trouvant désexcité, les points de contact R96a <I>à</I> R96k qui lui sont associés retournent à leur position normale.
Lorsque les contacts R96k sont trans férés, le circuit en direction de la grille de la lampe T4 est interrompu, la rendant ainsi non conductrice en vue de désexciter l'électro 25 de retour du clavier. Les contacts 25a de retour du clavier se referment alors pour re- connecter le clavier à la ligne sous tension. Il résulte des opérations mentionnées ci-dessus que les opérations de perforations se trouvent de nouveau sous la commande de la manipu lation manuelle du clavier.
L'opérateur enfonce alors à la suite les touches 5, 6 et 7 pour effectuer la perforation de cette somme dans les colonnes 27, 28 et 29 de la carte C, de la manière habituelle. Comme on l'a expliqué antérieurement en détail à pro pos du champ ou zone précédent à sept co lonnes, la seule perforation du 7 dans la colonne 29 de la carte-programme provoque l'excitation du relais<I>R104</I> d'arrêt de retour à zéro. L'excitation du relais<I>R104</I> d'arrêt de retour à zéro fait retomber le relais d'arrêt <I>R103,</I> de sorte que la machine est en état de perforer le champ suivant de la carte à statistiques, ou carte C.
L'examen des fig. 8 et 8a indiquera que les contacts R9c <I>à</I> R9j, les contacts R8c <I>à.</I> R8f et les contacts R7b et R7c sont interconnectés électriquement d'une manière telle qu'ils constituent un trajet de courant en direction du relais d'arrêt<I>R103</I> lorsque leur réglage sous la commande d'une colonne de la carte-programme correspond à la valeur en chiffres de la touche manoeuvrée. Ainsi, dans l'exemple donné plus haut,
le cir cuit est complété à travers ces contacts seu lement lorsqu'ils sont disposés de manière à représenter les perforations situées dans la troi sième colonne à partir de la droite de la carte- programme (c'est-à-dire les perforations 7 et 8) et la touche 3 est manipulée. De la même manière, si l'on a manipulé la touche 5, le circuit en direction de l'électro d'arrêt<I>R103</I> ne se trouverait complété que lors de l'excita tion des relais 7 et 9 en réponse à la lecture de ces perforations dans la cinquième colonne à partir de la droite de ce champ ou zone de la carte-programme.
Après que la vingt-neuvième colonne de la carte à statistiques a été perforée pour re présenter un 7 dans l'exemple de la fig. 10, la carte est déplacée par les dispositifs habi tuels vers une position où la colonne 35 de la carte-programme est en position de lecture, et la colonne correspondante 35 de la carte à statistiques C est à un intervalle de la ligne de poinçons 36. Il y a lieu de noter que ce champ de la carte-programme comporte cinq colonnes et que la colonne 35 contient de ce fait une perforation 7 et une perforation 9.
Par conséquent, les relais R7 et R9 sont ex cités pour mettre leurs contacts en état, de sorte que seule la manipulation de la touche 5 entraîne l'excitation du relais d'arrêt<I>R103.</I> Dans la carte représentée sur la fig. 10, l'opé rateur enfonce la touche 2. Ceci complète un circuit allant de la ligne 94 à la ligne 97 en passant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-2, les contacts PCP-4 (en position normale), les contacts R96e (déplacés), les contacts R9e (déplacés), le conducteur 108, le redresseur 109 et l'électro 68-0.
Ceci entraîne l'échappement de la colonne 35 de la carte à statistiques vers la ligne de perforations, et la perforation du point d'index zéro dans cette carte, suivie par une perforation automatique similaire de zéros dans les colonnes 36 et 37.
Tandis que la colonne 37 est en cours de perforation, la colonne 38 de la carte-pro- gramme est lue pour exciter le relais R8, complétant ainsi à ce moment un circuit par tant de la ligne 94 à travers les contacts 25a, le contact 23-2 (encore fermé), les contacts PCP-4 (en position normale), les contacts R96e (déplacés), les contacts R9e (en position nor male), les contacts R8d (déplacés), les contacts R7c (en position normale),
le conducteur 102 et l'électro d'arrêt<I>R103</I> pour aboutir à la ligne 97, interrompant ainsi la perforation de zéros et ramenant le clavier de telle sorte que l'opérateur peut- ensuite introduire à la main la valeur 34.
Après l'introduction de la valeur 34 dans les colonnes 38 et 39 de la carte à statistiques C, la carte est poussée vers l'avant de la ma nière habituelle jusqu'à ce que la colonne 47 de la carte-programme se trouve en position de lecture et que la colonne correspondante 47 de la carte à statistiques C se trouve à un intervalle de la ligne de poinçons 36. Du fait de la lecture de la perforation 9 dans la co lonne 47 de la carte-programme et de l'exci tation du relais R9 qui en résulte, le relais R96 se trouve excité à nouveau. Dans les cartes représentées sur les fig. 9 et 10, on désire remplir ce champ de zéros (chiffres sans signi fication).
L'opérateur enfonce donc la touche 0, fermant ainsi les contacts 23-0 associés. Lors que les contacts 23-0 sont fermés, on peut obtenir un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant à travers les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-0, les contacts R96j (déplacés), les contacts R9j (déplacés), le redresseur 109 et l'électro 68-0, pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'électro 68-0 excite son loquet de perforation 67 pour fer mer les contacts 76 comme précédemment et effectue une opération de l'électro d'échappe ment 53 et de l'électro 86 d'embrayage de perforation, de sorte que la carte à statistiques C est avancée d'une colonne et qu'un zéro se trouve perforé dans la colonne 47. Cette opé ration ne s'accompagne pas de l'excitation de l'électro 25 de retour du clavier parce que les contacts R96k de la fig. 8a sont déplacés, de telle sorte qu'aucun courant n'est appliqué à la grille de la lampe T4 en provenance de la ligne 94.
Du fait de l'opération d'échappement et de perforation décrite ci-dessus, la colonne 48 de la carte-programme est avancée en position d'exploration. Cette colonne contient des per forations aux positions de points d'index 7 et 8 pour réaliser une excitation des relais R7 et R8.
Lorsque ces deux relais se trouvent excités, on obtient un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par le contact R25a de retour du clavier, les contacts 23-0 (encore fermés), les contacts R96j (déplacés), les contacts R9j (en position normale), les contacts R8f (déplacés), le conducteur 108, le redresseur 109 et l'élec- tro 68-0 pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'électro 68-0 excite de nouveau son loquet de perfo ration 67 pour fermer les contacts 76 comme précédemment, ce qui entraîne le fonctionne ment de l'électro 53 d'échappement et de l'électro 86 d'embrayage de perforation. La carte à statistiques et la carte-programme se trouvent ainsi avancées d'une colonne et un zéro est perforé dans la colonne 48 de la carte à statistiques.
En raison de l'action d'échappement et de perforation que l'on vient de décrire, la co lonne 49 de la carte-programme est avancée en position de lecture, et la lecture de la per foration 8 dans celle-ci a pour résultat l'exci tation du relais R8. Ceci constitue un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par les contacts de clavier 25a, les contacts 23-0 (en core fermés), les contacts R96j (déplacés), les contacts R9j (en position normale), les contacts R8f (déplacés), le conducteur 108, le redres seur 109 et l'électro 68-0 pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'électro 68-0 excite son loquet de perforation 67 pour fermer les contacts 76 comme précédemment, ce qui entraîne le fonc tionnement de l'électro d'échappement 53 et de l'électro d'embrayage de perforation 86. Ainsi, la carte à statistiques et la carte-pro- gramme avancent d'une colonne et un zéro se trouve perforé dans la colonne 49 de la carte à statistiques. La colonne 50 de la carte-programme se trouvant maintenant en position de lecture, la lecture de la perforation 7 de celle-ci entraîne l'excitation du relais R7.
Il en résulte que l'on peut obtenir un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-0 (encore fermés), les contacts R96j (dé placés), les contacts R9j (en position normale), les contacts R8f (en position normale), les contacts R7c (déplacés), le conducteur 108, le redresseur 109 et l'électro 68-0 pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'électro 68-0 excite à nouveau son loquet de perforation 67 pour fermer les contacts 76 comme précédemment, ce qui en traîne le fonctionnement de l'électro d'échap pement 53 et de l'électro 86 de l'embrayage de perforation. Ainsi, la carte à statistiques et la carte-programme sont avancées d'une colonne et un zéro se trouve perforé dans la colonne 50 de la carte à statistiques C.
Au cours de l'opération de perforation et avant que le relais R7 ne soit désexcité, le contact à came 107 se ferme pour compléter un cir cuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par le contact à came 107, les contacts R9a (en position normale), les contacts Réa (en posi tion normale), les contacts R7a (déplacés) et le relais<I>R104</I> de libération de butée pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
Le transfert des contacts R104a complète un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant à travers les contacts R104a (déplacés), le conducteur 105, les contacts R96k (encore déplacés), pour aboutir à la grille de la lampe T4, rendant ainsi cette der nière conductrice pour exciter l'électro 25 de retour du clavier.
Ceci provoque l'ouverture des contacts associés<I>25a en vue</I> de couper le circuit de maintien en direction du relais R96, de sorte que ce dernier se trouve dés- excité. Lors de la désexcitation du relais R96, ses contacts R96k se déplacent pour inter rompre le circuit de grille de la lampe T4, rendant celle-ci non conductrice, de manière à désexciter l'électro 25 de retour du clavier. Lorsque l'électro 25 est désexcité, les contacts associés<I>25a</I> se ferment, de sorte que la ma chine se trouve de nouveau sous la commande du clavier manuel.
<I>Préparation de la carte-programme</I> Comme on l'a expliqué précédemment, la perforation automatique de zéros est fonction du code de perforation de la carte-programme. Afin de simplifier la perforation de la carte programme, on a disposé la machine de telle sorte que l'opérateur n'ait pas besoin de con naître le code de perforation de la carte-pro- gramme, mais ait simplement besoin d'enfoncer les touches numériques à la suite, dans l'ordre décroissant, la première touche enfoncée dé pendant de la dimension de champ désirée.

Il en résulte qu'un circuit est complété de la ligne sous tension 94 à la ligne sous tension 97, circuit passant par le commutateur 113 et le relais PCP. L'excitation de ce relais provoque la fermeture des contacts PCP-1 qui lui sont associés, et le transfert des contacts PCP-2 <I>à</I> PCP-8. Le transfert des contacts PCP-2 <I>à</I> PCP-8 déconnecte les contacts de la touche associés 23-1 à 23-7 de leur circuit régulier et les relie au circuit 114 de transla tion du redresseur représenté sur la fig. 8a.
L'opérateur fait alors avancer une carte en blanc grâce aux dispositifs habituels d'ali mentation et d'espacement jusqu'à ce que la colonne 11 de cette carte se trouve à une colonne à droite de la ligne de perforation 36. Ensuite, puisque le premier champ de la carte programme doit être un champ à sept colonnes, l'opérateur, conformément à la règle exposée précédemment, enfonce les touches 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 et 1 à la suite dans l'ordre décroissant.
La manipulation de la touche 7 ferme les contacts 23-7 de la manière habituelle, en vue de compléter un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par les contacts 25-1, les contacts 23-7, les contacts PCP-3 (déplacés), le re dresseur d'isolement 115, l'électro 68-7, les contacts R96b (en position normale), pour aboutir à la ligne 97. Simultanément, un cir cuit se trouve complété à travers le redresseur <B>116</B> et le conducteur 118 pour exciter l'électro 68-8.
Un circuit identique est complété à tra vers le redresseur 119 et le conducteur 120 pour exciter l'électro 68-9. Ainsi, du fait de l'enfoncement de la touche 7, les électros 68-7, -8 et -9 sont excités pour effectuer la perfo ration des points d'index 7, 8 et 9 de la co lonne 11 de la carte à statistiques de la ma nière habituelle. Ceci constitue la perforation nécessaire en code du programme pour la colonne 11 de la carte, comme on le remar quera en se reportant à la fig. 9.
Pendant l'opération de perforation de la colonne 11, une came supportée par l'arbre 78 ferme un contact 122 pour compléter un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant à travers le contact 122, les contacts<I>8123c</I> (en position normale), d'un relais d'arrêt<I>R123</I> d'un poinçon désigné par 12 , les contacts PCP-1 (maintenant fermés) et la bobine d'excitation d'un relais <I>R124</I> de poinçon 12 pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'excitation du relais<I>R124</I> qui en résulte provoque la fermeture de ses contacts <I>8124a</I> et le transfert de ses contacts<I>8124b.</I> La fermeture des contacts <I>8124a</I> complète un circuit de maintien du relais<I>R124,</I> circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par un contact 125 qui est fermé par une came supportée par l'arbre 55 du tambour-programme, les contacts <I>8123d</I> (en position normale), les contacts <I>8124a</I> (maintenant fermés) et la bobine de maintien du relais<I>R124,</I> pour aboutir à la ligne 97:
Le relais<I>R124</I> est maintenant excité jusqu'au commencement de l'intervalle de perforation du cycle suivant de la machine au cours duquel il est excité à nouveau de la manière expliquée ci-dessus.
L'enfoncement de la touche 6 par l'opéra teur complète un circuit en direction des élec- tros 68-8 et 68-9 en vue d'effectuer une per foration des points d'index associés de la colonne 12, à la demande.
Au moment même où les électros 68-8 et 68-9 sont excités par les contacts PCP-5 (transférés), et les contacts 23-6 fermés, un circuit parallèle se trouve complété, soit à travers le conducteur 118, soit à travers le conducteur 120, les redresseurs associés 127 ou 128 respectivement, le conduc teur 129, les contacts<I>8124b</I> (déplacés) et l'électro 68-l2, en direction de la ligne 97. Ainsi, la position de point d'index 12 de la colonne 12 de la carte-programme de perfo ration se trouve également perforée.
L'enfoncement de la touche 5 effectue en suite la perforation des points d'index 9, 7 et 12 de la colonne 13 de la carte, d'une manière identique. L'enfoncement des touches 4, 3 et 2 de la carte, dans l'ordre décroissant, effectue la perforation des colonnes 14, 15 et 16 comme on l'a indiqué sur la fig. 9. Ensuite, l'enfon cement de la touche 1 complète un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-1, les contacts PCP-6 (déplacés), le conducteur 130 et la bobine d'excitation du relais 123 pour aboutir à la ligne 97.
L'excitation du relais<I>R123</I> qui en résulte provoque le déplacement des contacts R123a <I>à</I> R123e qui lui sont associés. La fer meture des contacts R123e complète un cir cuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par les contacts 25a, les contacts 23-1, les contacts PCP-6 (déplacés), le conducteur 130, le conduc teur 132, les contacts R123e (maintenant fermés), le conducteur 133, le conducteur 134,
I'électro 68-7 et les contacts R96b pour abou tir à la ligne 97. Au même moment, un cir cuit est complété depuis le conducteur 134 à travers le redresseur 136, le conducteur 129, les contacts R123a (déplacés), les contacts R124b (en position normale), et l'électro 68-12 pour aboutir à la ligne 97. Les électros 68-7 et 68-12 se trouvant excités, un 12 et un 7 sont perforés dans la colonne 17 de la carte à la demande.
La fermeture des contacts R123b complète un circuit partant de la ligne 94 et passant par les contacts à cames 131 (lorsque ceux-ci sont fermés), les contacts R123b et la bobine de maintien du relais<I>R123</I> pour aboutir à la ligne 97. Le relais <I>R123</I> est maintenu excité par le circuit mentionné ci-dessus, jusqu'à ce que les contacts 131 soient ouverts lors de l'opération d'échappement suivante.
L'ouver ture des contacts R123d désexcite le relais <I>R124</I> qui, on le rappelle, commande la per foration 12, de sorte que la perforation 12 est supprimée dans la colonne de l'ordre le plus élevé (colonne 23) du champ suivant de la même manière que dans la colonne 11. The operation of this key causes the automatic perforation of a certain number of zeros in the zone, to constitute the necessary number of zeros.
The operator then presses the keys according to the sum to be recorded, and this sum is punched in the columns to the right of the zone. Thus, with regard to the number 764321 mentioned in the examples above, the operation of key 6 will cause the perforation of a zero.
For the sum 876, the operation of key 3 will result in the perforation of four zeros, and for the sum 5 the operation of the key 1 will cause the perforation of six zeros. These zeros are punctured quickly in succession and without interruption, bringing into the perforation position the first column intended to receive the perforation of the sum. The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the perforating machine according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a partial section of this embodiment.

Fig. 10 shows a statistical card, punched under the control of the program card of FIG. 9.
The machine shown has several known customary members.
<I> Keyboard </I> If we refer to fig. 3 and 3a, it can be seen that the key 10, of which there is a copy for each of the digits, is mounted to operate vertically in the frame generally designated by 11 and, by means of an angled lever 12, drives towards the left a link 13. The left end of this link is pivotally mounted on the angled lever, and its right end engages in a notch provided in an element 15 pivotally mounted at 16 on a vertical slide 17.
Element 15 is normally dragged clockwise around its pivot 16 by a spring 18 and has a shoulder 20 engaged in a bar 21 to hold it in the position shown in FIG. 3. When the button 10 is pressed, the link 13 is driven to the left, taking with it the upper end of an element 15, thus freeing its shoulder from the bar 21. Then, the res 22 which comes out. surrounds the upper end of the slide 17 drives the slide down to the position shown in FIG. 3a.
Below each of these slides there is a pair of contacts generally designated 23, which, when the slide is released as explained, are closed as shown in FIG. 3a. As said, there is one key 10 for each of the digits, and therefore there are ten contacts 23 shown in the fi- 8 and 8a, where it is indicated that they correspond to the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, - 7, 8 and 9.
The slide 17, when it has thus been released, remains in its position of FIG. 3a and its contacts therefore remain closed until the return electro 25 of the keyboard is energized, after which its armature 26, pivotally mounted at 27, switches in the opposite direction to that of the needles of a shows and moves by displacement a curved plate 28 in engagement with the element 15, lifting the latter towards the rear in its locking position along the slide 17, where it will remain until the next operation of the button .
The armature 26 carries an insulating disc 30 which, when the electro 25 is energized, causes the opening of a pair of contacts 25a (fig. 8) for a purpose which will appear later. <I> Card feed mechanism </I> Referring to fig. 1, it can be seen that a statistics card C is guided so as to be able to move on a plate 33 and advances with the aid of a pair of feed rollers designated by 34 and 35, the last of which is a driven roller, while the first is driven by a mechanism which will be described, so as to pass the card, column by column,
opposite a row of punches 36 (see also fig. 6). The feed roller 34 is attached to a shaft 37 (Figs. 5 and 6) to which are also attached a gear 39 and an escape ratchet 40. The gear 39 is driven in the opposite direction posed to that of the needles of 'a watch, as seen in fig. 5, by means of a train of gears designated by 41, 42, 43 and 44.
The last named gear is attached to a shaft 47 which, as shown in FIG. 7, carries a gear 48 mounted on it to be able to rotate freely. This gear is driven constantly from any energy source and is in constant rotation. On either side of the disc 48 is a friction disc 49, and the spring device 50 constantly presses the friction discs 49 to keep them in driving contact with the gear 48.
Therefore, under the action of the gear train which has just been described, the gear 39 and the escape ratchet 40 which is connected to it are constantly pushed in the direction opposite to that of the needles. a watch. Their movement is however limited by the coming into engagement of a reinforcing pawl 52 with the teeth of the ratchet 40. The electric exhaust 53, when it is momentarily excited, allows the ratchet to move forward. 'a tooth gap, so as to advance the map by one column. The electric exhaust 53, when it is energized, closes a pair of contacts 53a to which we will return later.
<I> Drive of the program card </I> The gear 42 (fig. 5 and 6) is fixed to a shaft 55 supporting a drum 57 around which can be wound the program card designated by P. As the gear 42 is located in the friction driven train and coupled directly to the exhaust ratchet, the drum 57 rotates in steps to advance the program card column by column, concurrently with the advance of the stat card, so that the movement of the two cards is carried out in synchronism.
A scanning or reading device is provided for each digit position of the program card, which device has the shape of a star wheel 58 with five positions (FIG. 4). This constitutes a well-known exploration device.
The star wheel normally occupies the position shown in fig. 4 and, upon rotation of the drum 57, the star wheel slides through the. surface of the card while remaining in the position shown. The wheel is supported so as to be able to turn by a lever 59 bearing on a rod 60, and it is pushed in the opposite direction to that of clockwise by the engagement of a contact spring 62 with the right end of the lever.
When a perforation of the program card arrives under the star wheel, the tooth located on the right falls into the perforation, causing the lever 59 to oscillate in the opposite direction to that of the needles of a clock. engagement of the contact spring 62 with a fixed contact 63. These contacts are generally designated by PC in FIG. 8, and each of the pairs of separate PC contacts shown is further designated as 7, 8, 9, etc., depending on the index or number position of the card that its star wheel drive mechanism is intended to explore.
When 'successive column positions of the program card are punched at the same index point position, the associated star wheel 58, after having tilted into the first of these series of perforations to close the associated contact PC, will then go by rolling from one operation to the next without oscillating the associated lever 59.
Consequently, the associated PC contacts remain closed during the passage of this series of perforations of the program card. <I> Mechanism of </I> Perforation The mechanism of perforation, as shown in fig. 1, comprises the usual punches 36 and, associated with these punches, there is a control lever 65 pivotally mounted on a shaft 66 and supporting a latch 67 subjected to the pressure of a spring,
which is normally engaged with a frame 68A of an electro-perforator 68 and thereby held in the position shown in FIG. 1. After the excitation of the electro 68, its armature 68A switches to release the latch 67, which, under the action of its spring 69, then switches in the direction of clockwise to bring its bent end. 71 under a yoke 72 pivotally mounted on the shaft 66. The tilting of each of the twelve latches 67 causes a yoke 73 to pivot around its pivot 74 against the tension of the spring 75 and closes a pair of contacts 76.
These contacts activate a clutch mechanism to cause an oscillation of the caliper 72, as will be explained below.
If we refer to fig. 2, it is seen that a pulley is mounted so as to be able to rotate freely on a shaft 78 (see also Fig. 1) and is driven in constant rotation by a suitable source of energy. To the shaft 78 is fixed a stopper 79, and between the pulley 77 and the stopper is a spring 81 wound around and away from the extension of the hub of the pulley 77. One end of this spring is attached to the stop cam, and the other end is attached to a sleeve 82.
The sleeve has a stopper 83 which engages the frame 84 of an electro 86, while the cam 79 has a stop edge 87 which engages a pivotally mounted lever 88 which lever is pressed against. the armature 84 by a connecting spring 89. The parts which have just been described constitute a well-known form of a single revolution clutch and, when the parts occupy their normal position and the two stops 83 and 87 come in engagement with their respective levers, the spring 81 is held in a slightly open position, so that the hub of the pulley 77 can freely rotate inside the spring.
After energizing the electro 86, the armature 84 releases the stop 83, after which the res exits 81 oscillates the sleeve 82 until the spring closes enough to grip the pulley hub and is driven by the latter to ensure the drive of the shaft 78 by means of the stop cam 79. At the end of one revolution, the electro 73 being de-energized, the sleeve 82 strikes the armature 84 to reopen the spring 81 and perform the disconnection of the parts. The driven parts are slightly offset, so that the stopper 87 again engages the lever 88, preventing the closure of the coil spring.
Shaft 78 supports a pair of additional cams 91 which drive rollers 92 mounted on the side arm of caliper 72, so that the caliper is tilted once for each revolution of shaft 78. The shaft 78 also supports a cam (not shown) for controlling a pair of contacts designated 93, as shown in the circuit diagram (Fig. 8).
The above briefly describes the operation of the elements of the hole punch. <I> The map </I> There is shown in FIG. 10 a card C in which perforations are indicated in several zones or fields, each comprising multiple columns. For these zones or fields, which it is desired to fill with zeros to the left of the sum, the program card P of FIG. 9 is perforated at its index positions 7, 8 and 9 as shown.
Assume that a maximum field size is seven columns, so the program card will have a 7 punched in each unit column or right column; a punched 8 in the tens column; a 7 and an 8 in the hundreds column; a 9 in the column of thousands; a 7 and a 9 in the column of tens of thousands; an 8 and a 9 in the hundreds of thousands column; and a 7, an 8, and a 9 in the millions column. It will also be noted in FIG. 9 that each column, except the highest order column of a field, also contains a 12 perforation.
These perforations 12 are of no interest for the operation, but they are required by the usual duplication and jumping operations performed by the punch.
The manner in which the index point perforations 7, 8, 9 of the program card control the zero perforation in the card C will be explained in connection with the circuit diagram.
In fig. 9 and 10, the rows designated as reading line and perforation line respectively serve to indicate that there is an offset of one column between the two cards with regard to their reading and perforation, so that when any column of the program card is at its read line, the corresponding column of the statistics card is at an interval or one column from its punch position. <I> Circuit diagram </I> The operation of the machine will be better understood by drawing particular circuits conforming to the examples of the card shown in figs. 9 and 10.
Suppose the program card has been placed on the program drum and its column 1 has been set to star wheel alignment 58 and the statistics card has been properly inserted into the machine and placed between its feed rollers 34 and 35, its column 1 being at an interval or not to the right of the line of punches 36. The card can then be advanced by means of the usual spacing devices (not shown) to bring column 2 to the alignment of the punches. The device is now ready to punch the value 2 in column 3.
The manipulation of the key 10 of the number 2 shown in FIG. 3 closes the associated contacts 23-2 (fig. 8a) to complete a circuit going from a line 94 of zero potential to a live line 97. positive and passing through the <I> 25a </I> return contacts of the keypad, contacts 23-2, the normally closed face of the PCP-4 contacts of a relay designated by PCP, the normally closed face of the 96th contacts d 'a relay R96, the electro 68-2 and the normally closed face of contacts 96b of relay R96.
This operation of the key 2, as explained with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, releases the associated slide 17 to close the contacts 23-2 which remain closed until the return-to-zero solenoid 25 is energized.
The energization of the electro 68-2 disengages the lock 67 of fig. 1 which is associated with it and causes the closing of the contacts 76 which then complete a circuit starting from the line 94 through the contacts 76, an isolation rectifier 98 and the contacts 99b of a relay R99 to end in the grid of a lamp T1, thus making the latter conductive with a view to exciting the exhaust electra 53 via the cam contacts 93 normally closed.
The excitation of the electro-exhaust 53 advances the card by one column in the manner explained previously and, thanks to the closing of its associated contacts 53a, completes a circuit going from line 94 to the grid of a lamp T2 and passing through the contacts <I> 53a, </I> lamp which is thereby made conductive to energize the relay 99 through the cam contact 93. The energization of the relay 99 causes the closing of the contacts 99a which are associated with it, and the opening of its contacts 99b.
The opening of the contacts 99b in the gate circuit of the <I> TI </I> lamp makes the latter non-conductive and thus quickly de-energizes the exhaust electro 53, so that it can only be used move statistic cards forward one column only.
The closing of the contacts 99a completes a circuit going from the line 94 to the grid of a lamp T3, thus making the latter conductive to energize the perforation clutch electro 86 via the cam contact 93. The lever punch 65 of FIG. 1 being associated with the index position 2 now coupled to the caliper 72, the energization of the perforation clutch electro 86 causes a single revolution of the shaft 78 in the manner previously explained. The single revolution of shaft 78 causes a perforation at index point 2 of column 3 of the card.
During the revolution of the shaft 78, the associated cam controlled contacts 93 open to cut the circuits through the relay R99 and the drill clutch electro 86. Another circuit is completed as soon as the contacts 76 are closed, this circuit going from the line 94 through the contacts 76, and through the normally closed face of the contacts 96k towards the gate of a lamp T4 to make this lamp conductive in order to to quote the return electro 25 of the keyboard, so that the keyboard is brought back to zero and the contacts 23-2 open again while the perforation is carried out.
The above briefly explains the normal perforation operation which takes place, it being understood that the column to be perforated is normally out of the perforation position and that an escape action takes place before the actual perforation, so so that after the perforation has been performed the perforated column remains in alignment with the punches.
To obtain a perforation at the zero point of the next column (column 4), the zero key is used to close the associated contacts 23-0. These contacts being closed, the electro 68-0 is energized and the result is that the zero index point of column 4 of the statistics card is perforated in a manner identical to that explained for the perforation operation of the 2.
The keys 7 and 1 are then manipulated in the same way to perform the perforation of a 7 in column 5 and the perforation of a 1 in column 6 of the card. The cards are then brought to a position where the column 11 of the program card is in the read position and the corresponding column 11 of the card C is at an interval from the punch line 36. fig. 10, it will be assumed that the sum to be punched in this seven-column field contains seven digits, so that there is no zero left to punch,
and we will now explain the operations which take place in this case.
Line 11 of the program card being in the scanning position, contacts PC7, PC8 and PC9 of the star wheel of the fia. Sa are closed and cause the energization of the relay electros designated by R7, <I> R8 </I> and R9, thus closing the contacts associated with them, designated by 9a to 9j for the relay R9, 8c to 8f for relay R8, and 7a to 7c for relay R7.
When either of the R96 <I> or </I> RSb contacts arranged in parallel is closed, a circuit is completed which goes from line 94 to line 97 passing through contacts 104a (in normal position ) of a relay <I> R104, </I> the contacts 103b (in normal position) of a relay <I> R103, </I> either by the contact points R8b or R96 and what calls the keyboard disconnect relay <I> R96 </I>. When relay R96 is energized, all of the contact points 96a <I> to 96k </I> which are associated with it are shifted. Relay R96 is kept energized by its own contact point 96a and by keypad return contact 25a. It will be noted that the excitation of one or the other of the relays R8 or R9 causes the excitation of the relay R96.
The column <B> 11 </B> of the program card being in the exploration position and the relays <I> R7, R8, </I> R9 and R96 energized as explained above, the operator, in accordance with the rules set out above, will press a key representing the number of places occupied by the sum to be perforated. For the example chosen, it will be key 7 which, after being pressed, will cause contacts 23-7 to close in the usual way. As at this moment the relay R96 is energized, its contacts 96d are moved, so that no circuit is completed in the direction of the electro 68-7.
However, a circuit is completed from line 94 through the keypad return contacts 25a, contacts 23-7_, PCP-3 contacts (in normal position), 96d contacts (moved), 9d contacts (moved) , the contacts 8c (displaced), the contacts 7b (displaced), through a conductor 102 and the excitation coil of a relay R103 called the stop relay, to end in line 97.
The energization of the stop relay <I> R103 </I> causes the closing of the R103a contacts associated with it, and the transfer of its R103b contacts. The transfer of contacts <I> 8103b </I> opens the circuit passing through relay R96 and completes a circuit going from line 94 through the normally closed face of contacts <I> 8104a, </I> the face normally open contacts <I> 8103b, </I> now closed, through a conductor 105, the contacts R96k (moved) towards the grid of the lamp T4, making the latter conductive to excite the electro 25 of the return of the keypad and reset (open) contacts 23-7.
When the keypad return solenoid 25 is fully energized, its associated contacts 25a open and cut the hold circuit to relay R96. As soon as the relay R96 is de-energized, the contacts <I> 896a to </I> R96k which are associated with it move, thus opening the gate circuit towards the lamp T4 and making the latter non-conductive again. The T4 lamp being in a non-conductive state, the keypad return electro 25 is de-energized to close the keypad return contacts 25a and reconnect the common side of contacts 23-0 to 23-9 towards the line. powered on 94.
The stop relay <I> R103 </I> is kept energized by the 8103n contacts associated with it and the normally closed <I> 8104b </I> contacts of the reset stop relay <I> R104 . </I>
The operator now presses the keys of the sum to be punched in the card field, the first of these keys being key 3, which causes the <B> 23-3 contacts to close. </B> Thanks to the closing of contacts 23-3, a circuit is completed from line 94 to line 97, not through contacts 25a, contacts 23-3. the PCP-2 contact (in normal position), the <B> 96e </B> contacts (in normal position), the 68-3 electro and the R96b contacts. As a result, the card is advanced and then punched at the position of index point 3 of column 11, in the manner previously described.
Next, the keys 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are operated successively to perform the desired perforations in the remaining columns, as shown in fig. <B> 10. </ B > The program card will naturally progress through the columns to allow exploration of the punched positions 7, 8 and 9, but, as the stop relay <I> R103 </I> is kept energized and its contacts < I> 8103b </I> are transferred, the completion of the reading of a perforation 8 or 9 in the program card cannot effect the excitation of relay R96.
When the last column (17) of the program card field reaches the read position, only a perforation 7 'is read on the program card and it follows that only the relay R7 of the program card is energized.
The relay R7 being energized, the closing of a contact 107 by means of a cam supported by the shaft 78 completes a circuit going from the liana 94 to the line 97 and passing through the normally closed contacts R9a, the Sheave contacts normally closed, contacts R7a normally open (now closed) and the stop relay <I> R104 </I> back to zero.
The energization of the <I> R104 </I> relay causes the opening of its normally closed <I> 8104b </I> contacts, and the transfer of its <I> 8104a contacts. </I> The opening of the contacts <I> 8104b </I> opens the holding circuit in direction of the stop relay <I> R103 </I> to de-energize the latter. The stop relay <I> R103 </I> being de-energized and the contacts <I> 8103b </I> of this one occupying their normal position,
the excitation circuit can again be made in the direction of relay R96 when reading a perforation with index 8 or 9 in the program card. The rectifier shunted around the return-to-zero stop relay <I> R104 </I> delays the de-energization of the relay <I> R104 </I> after opening the contacts R7a until the relay d 'stop <I> R103 </I> has been effectively de-energized. The machine is now ready to punch the next sum into the card.
The card now progresses under the action of the usual positioning devices (not shown), to a position where column 23 of the program card is in the exploration position, while the corresponding column 23 of the card C is located at an interval from the line of punches 36. Due to the reading of the perforations 8 and 9 on column 23 of the program card and the resulting energization of the relays R8 and R9, the relay R96 finds himself excited again. Since a sum occupying three places must be punched in this field, the operator first presses key 3 to close contacts 23-3.
This completes a circuit from line 94 to line 97 and passing through contacts 25a, contacts 23-3, PCP-2 contacts (in normal position), <I> 896c </I> contacts (displaced) , the contacts R9c (displaced), the conductor <B> 108, </B> the isolation rectifier 109 and the electro 68-0.
The zero digit electro 68 releases its piercing latch 67 to close the contacts 76 as before, causing the exhaust solenoid 53 and the piercing clutch electro 86 to operate, so so that the statistical card C is advanced one column and a zero is punched in a column 23.
However, this action is not accompanied by the excitation of the return electro 25 of the keyboard because the contacts R96k of fig. 8a are moved so that no current from line 94 is applied to the gate of lamp T4. It follows that the contacts 23-3 remain closed and that the circuit passing through the electro 68-0 remains completed to perform an automatically repeated operation of the escapement and of the perforation mechanism to perforate zeros in the columns. 24, 25 and 26.
In column 27 of this field or zone of the program card P, the perforation takes place in positions 7 and 8, and this column is in the reading position while the perforation of zeros takes place in column 26 of the statistics card C.
Therefore, with relays R7 and R8 now being energized, there is an additional circuit that can be traced from line 94 to line 97 through contacts 25a, contacts 23-3, PCP-2 contacts (in normal position), the contacts R96c displaced, the normally closed face of the contacts R9c, the contacts R8d displaced, the contacts R7b displaced, the conductor 102 and the excitation coil of the stop relay <I> R103. </ I > The relay <I> R103 </I> is held by hand through its own contacts <I> 8103a </I> and the contacts <I> 8104b </I> normally closed.
The relay <I> R103 </I> being energized, its contacts <I> 8103b, </I> during their transfer, complete a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through to the normally closed face of the contacts < I> 8104a, </I> the contacts <I> 8103b </I> (moved), the conductor 105, the normally open face of the R96k contacts (still moved) to lead to the grid of the lamp T4, thus making this last conductor, to excite the return electro 25 from the keyboard.
Therefore, accompanying the zero perforation in column 26, energization of the return solenoid 25 of the keypad takes place, so that contacts 23-3 open again after column 26 has been turned off. perforated. Likewise, due to the excitation of the electro 25, the return contacts 25a of the keyboard open and interrupt the holding circuit in the direction of relay R96. The relay R96 being de-energized, the contact points R96a <I> to </I> R96k which are associated with it return to their normal position.
When the contacts R96k are transferred, the circuit to the gate of the lamp T4 is interrupted, thus rendering it non-conductive in order to de-energize the return electro of the keyboard. The keypad return contacts 25a then close again to reconnect the keypad to the live line. It follows from the operations mentioned above that the perforation operations are again under the control of manual manipulation of the keyboard.
The operator then presses the keys 5, 6 and 7 in succession to perform the perforation of this sum in columns 27, 28 and 29 of card C, in the usual manner. As explained in detail previously with regard to the previous field or zone with seven columns, the only perforation of 7 in column 29 of the program card causes the <I> R104 </I> relay to be energized. stop return to zero. The energization of the return to zero stop relay <I> R104 </I> drops the stop relay <I> R103, </I> so that the machine is in a position to perforate the following field of the statistics card, or C.
Examination of fig. 8 and 8a will indicate that the contacts R9c <I> to </I> R9j, the contacts R8c <I> to. </I> R8f and the contacts R7b and R7c are electrically interconnected in such a way that they constitute a current path in the direction of the stop relay <I> R103 </I> when their setting under the control of a column of the program card corresponds to the value in digits of the key operated. Thus, in the example given above,
the circuit is completed through these contacts only when they are arranged so as to represent the perforations located in the third column from the right of the program card (i.e. the perforations 7 and 8) and key 3 is operated. Likewise, if key 5 was used, the circuit in the direction of the stop solenoid <I> R103 </I> would only be completed when the relays 7 and 9 were energized. in response to reading those perforations in the fifth column from the right of that field or area of the program card.
After the twenty-ninth column of the statistics card has been punched to represent a 7 in the example of FIG. 10, the card is moved by the usual devices to a position where the column 35 of the program card is in the reading position, and the corresponding column 35 of the statistics card C is at an interval from the line of punches 36 It should be noted that this field of the program card has five columns and that column 35 therefore contains a perforation 7 and a perforation 9.
Consequently, the relays R7 and R9 are energized to put their contacts in state, so that only the manipulation of key 5 causes the energization of the stop relay <I> R103. </I> In the map shown in fig. 10, the operator presses key 2. This completes a circuit going from line 94 to line 97 passing through contacts 25a, contacts 23-2, PCP-4 contacts (in normal position), contacts R96e (moved), contacts R9e (moved), conductor 108, rectifier 109 and electro 68-0.
This causes column 35 of the statistics card to escape to the row of perforations, and the zero index point to be perforated in that card, followed by a similar automatic perforation of zeros in columns 36 and 37.
While column 37 is being punctured, column 38 of the program card is read to energize relay R8, thus completing at this time a circuit by so much of line 94 through contacts 25a, contact 23-2 (still closed), PCP-4 contacts (in normal position), R96e contacts (moved), R9e contacts (in normal position), R8d contacts (moved), R7c contacts (in normal position ),
the conductor 102 and the electric stop <I> R103 </I> to reach line 97, thus interrupting the perforation of zeros and bringing the keyboard back so that the operator can then enter the key by hand. value 34.
After entering the value 34 in columns 38 and 39 of statistic card C, the card is pushed forward in the usual way until column 47 of the program card is in position. reading position and that the corresponding column 47 of the statistics card C is at an interval from the line of punches 36. The operator therefore presses the 0 key, thus closing the associated 23-0 contacts. When contacts 23-0 are closed, a circuit can be obtained starting from line 94 and passing through contacts 25a, contacts 23-0, contacts R96j (displaced), contacts R9j (displaced), the rectifier 109 and electro 68-0, leading to line 97.
The electro 68-0 energizes its perforation latch 67 to close the contacts 76 as before and performs an operation of the exhaust electro 53 and of the perforation clutch electro 86, so that the card with statistics C is advanced one column and a zero is punched in column 47. This operation is not accompanied by the energization of the return electro 25 of the keyboard because the R96k contacts of the fig. 8a are moved so that no current is applied to the gate of lamp T4 from line 94.
Due to the escape and perforation operation described above, the column 48 of the program card is advanced to the scanning position. This column contains perforations at the positions of index points 7 and 8 to excite relays R7 and R8.
When these two relays are energized, a circuit is obtained starting from line 94 and passing through the keypad return contact R25a, contacts 23-0 (still closed), contacts R96j (displaced), contacts R9j (in normal position), contacts R8f (displaced), conductor 108, rectifier 109 and electro 68-0 to end at line 97.
The electro 68-0 again energizes its perforation latch 67 to close the contacts 76 as before, which causes the operation of the exhaust electro 53 and of the perforation clutch electro 86. The statistics card and the program card are thus moved forward one column and a zero is punched in column 48 of the statistics card.
Due to the escape and perforation action just described, column 49 of the program card is advanced to the reading position, and the reading of perforation 8 therein results in the result is the activation of relay R8. This constitutes a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through keypad contacts 25a, contacts 23-0 (still closed), contacts R96j (moved), contacts R9j (in normal position), contacts R8f (moved ), conductor 108, rectifier 109 and electro 68-0 to end at line 97.
The electro 68-0 energizes its perforation latch 67 to close the contacts 76 as before, which causes the operation of the electric exhaust 53 and of the perforation clutch electro 86. Thus, the card statistics and the program card move forward one column and a zero is punched in column 49 of the statistics card. The column 50 of the program card now being in the reading position, reading the perforation 7 thereof causes the relay R7 to be energized.
As a result, a circuit can be obtained starting from line 94 and passing through contacts 25a, contacts 23-0 (still closed), contacts R96j (displaced), contacts R9j (in normal position), contacts R8f (in normal position), contacts R7c (displaced), conductor 108, rectifier 109 and electro 68-0 to lead to line 97.
The electro 68-0 again energizes its perforation latch 67 to close the contacts 76 as before, which results in the operation of the electric escapement 53 and of the electro 86 of the perforation clutch. Thus, the statistics card and the program card are advanced one column and a zero is punched in column 50 of the statistics card C.
During the perforation operation and before relay R7 is de-energized, cam contact 107 closes to complete a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through cam contact 107, contacts R9a (in position normal), the Sheave contacts (in normal position), the R7a contacts (displaced) and the stop release <I> R104 </I> relay to end at line 97.
The transfer of contacts R104a completes a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through contacts R104a (displaced), conductor 105, contacts R96k (still displaced), to end in the grid of lamp T4, thus making this der conductive niere to excite the return electro 25 of the keyboard.
This causes the opening of the associated contacts <I> 25a in order </I> to cut the holding circuit in the direction of relay R96, so that the latter is de-energized. When the relay R96 is de-energized, its contacts R96k move to interrupt the gate circuit of the lamp T4, making the latter non-conductive, so as to de-energize the return electro of the keyboard. When the electro 25 is de-energized, the associated contacts <I> 25a </I> close, so that the machine is again under the control of the manual keyboard.
<I> Preparation of the program card </I> As explained above, the automatic punching of zeros depends on the punch code of the program card. In order to simplify the perforation of the program card, the machine has been arranged so that the operator does not need to know the perforation code of the program card, but simply needs to insert the number keys following, in descending order, the first key pressed for the desired field size.
For example, by preparing the program perforation of the program card C of fig. 9, the operator first closes the switch 113 for preparing the program card of FIG. 8a.
As a result, a circuit is completed from the live line 94 to the live line 97, the circuit passing through the switch 113 and the PCP relay. The energization of this relay causes the closing of the PCP-1 contacts associated with it, and the transfer of the PCP-2 <I> to </I> PCP-8 contacts. The transfer of the PCP-2 <I> to </I> PCP-8 contacts disconnects the associated key contacts 23-1 to 23-7 from their regular circuit and connects them to the rectifier transla tion circuit 114 shown in figure. fig. 8a.
The operator then advances a blank card using the usual feed and spacer devices until column 11 of this card is located one column to the right of the perforation line 36. Then, since the first field of the program card must be a field with seven columns, the operator, in accordance with the rule explained above, presses the keys 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 in descending order .
The manipulation of key 7 closes contacts 23-7 in the usual way, with a view to completing a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through contacts 25-1, contacts 23-7, PCP-3 contacts (moved ), the isolation rectifier 115, the electro 68-7, the contacts R96b (in normal position), to lead to line 97. Simultaneously, a circuit is completed through the rectifier <B> 116 < / B> and conductor 118 to excite the electro 68-8.
An identical circuit is completed through the rectifier 119 and the conductor 120 to excite the electro 68-9. Thus, due to the depressing of key 7, the appliances 68-7, -8 and -9 are energized to perform the perforation of the index points 7, 8 and 9 of column 11 of the card to statistics in the usual way. This constitutes the necessary perforation in program code for column 11 of the card, as will be noted with reference to FIG. 9.
During the operation of perforating the column 11, a cam supported by the shaft 78 closes a contact 122 to complete a circuit starting from the line 94 and passing through the contact 122, the contacts <I> 8123c </I> (in normal position), a stop relay <I> R123 </I> with a punch designated by 12, the PCP-1 contacts (now closed) and the excitation coil of a relay <I > R124 </I> with punch 12 to end at line 97.
The energization of the relay <I> R124 </I> which results from it causes the closing of its contacts <I> 8124a </I> and the transfer of its contacts <I> 8124b. </I> The closing of the contacts < I> 8124a </I> completes a circuit for maintaining relay <I> R124, </I> circuit starting from line 94 and passing through a contact 125 which is closed by a cam supported by the shaft 55 of the drum- program, the contacts <I> 8123d </I> (in normal position), the contacts <I> 8124a </I> (now closed) and the holding coil of the relay <I> R124, </I> to succeed on line 97:
The <I> R124 </I> relay is now energized until the commencement of the puncture interval of the next machine cycle in which it is energized again as explained above.
Depression of key 6 by the operator completes a circuit in the direction of electrodes 68-8 and 68-9 with a view to perforating the associated index points of column 12, on demand. .
At the very moment when the 68-8 and 68-9 electros are energized by the PCP-5 contacts (transferred), and the 23-6 contacts closed, a parallel circuit is completed, either through conductor 118, or through the conductor 120, the associated rectifiers 127 or 128 respectively, the conductor 129, the contacts <I> 8124b </I> (moved) and the electro 68-l2, in the direction of line 97. Thus, the position of index point 12 of column 12 of the punch program card is also punched.
Pressing key 5 then perforates the index points 9, 7 and 12 of column 13 of the card, in an identical manner. Pressing the keys 4, 3 and 2 of the card, in descending order, perforates the columns 14, 15 and 16 as indicated in fig. 9. Then, pressing key 1 completes a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through contacts 25a, contacts 23-1, PCP-6 contacts (moved), conductor 130 and coil. excitation of relay 123 to reach line 97.
The energization of the relay <I> R123 </I> which results from this causes the displacement of the contacts R123a <I> to </I> R123e which are associated with it. The closing of contacts R123e completes a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through contacts 25a, contacts 23-1, PCP-6 contacts (moved), conductor 130, conductor 132, contacts R123e ( now closed), driver 133, driver 134,
Electro 68-7 and contacts R96b for abou firing to line 97. At the same time, a circuit is completed from conductor 134 through rectifier 136, conductor 129, contacts R123a (moved), contacts R124b (in normal position), and electro 68-12 to end in line 97. Electros 68-7 and 68-12 being energized, a 12 and a 7 are perforated in column 17 of the card at the request.
The closing of contacts R123b completes a circuit starting from line 94 and passing through cam contacts 131 (when they are closed), contacts R123b and the holding coil of the relay <I> R123 </I> to end at line 97. Relay <I> R123 </I> is kept energized by the circuit mentioned above, until contacts 131 are opened during the next exhaust operation.
Opening contacts R123d de-energizes relay <I> R124 </I> which, as we recall, controls perforation 12, so that perforation 12 is deleted in the column of the highest order (column 23) of the next field in the same manner as in column 11. Skip operations, etc., require that the highest order column of each field or area of the program card not contain a perforation 12 , while a perforation 12 is needed in the next lower order column, as indicated in FIG. 9.
When the perforation is complete in column 17 of the card, the operator advances the card until column 23 thereof is one column to the right of the perforation line. As the next field of the program card must be a field with seven columns, the operator consequently presses keys 7 to 1 in ascending order, thus perforating columns 23 to 29 included, as indicated in fig. 9. Then the other program fields of columns 5 and 4 are drilled in an identical manner.
