Es kom men dafür z.

Method for tanning hides or skins The present invention relates to a method for tanning hides or skins, which is characterized in that water-soluble condensation resins made of organic sulfonamides, condensable compounds, are incorporated into the hides or skins, which contain at least one amino group which has at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom. and oxo compounds and converts the water-soluble condensation products into water-insoluble form during the introduction or afterwards.
The amino group is expediently bound to a CO, CS, C (NH) or CN group. The water-soluble products used can electrolytes, such as. B. acids or salts, especially ammonium salts, or by heat in the water-insoluble, resinous condensation products are converted.
Starting materials for the preparation of the condensation products are sulfonamides of the aromatic, fatty aromatic, aliphatic and cycloaliphatic series, whose hydrocarbon radicals also contain known heteroatoms or heteroatom groups or can carry substituents. As heteroatoms or heteroatom groups, in addition to oxygen and sulfur, primarily carbonamide groups and sulfonamide groups come into consideration, and as substituents, oxy or amino groups and the like.
Examples of sulfonamides of this type are: benzenesulfonamide, naphthalene mono- and polysulfonamides, p- and o-toluenesulfonamide, higher molecular weight alkylbenzenesulfonamides (alkyl radicals C2-C12 and higher), butylsulfonamide, octylsulfonamide, dodecylsulfon-N-methylamide clohexylsulfonamide, alkylcyclohexylsulfonamides and the like.
Substances which emit oxo compounds or oxo compounds and are suitable for the preparation of the condensation products are primarily formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, trioxymethylene, hexamethylenetetramine, formaldehyde bisulfite, methylal and the like. In addition, acetaldehyde, crotonaldehyde, benzaldehyde, acetone, acetophenone, cyclohexanone and the like.
Compounds capable of condensation which contain at least one amino group that is bonded to a CO, CS, C (NH) or CN group and have at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom are: urea, thiourea, alkylureas, Methylenediurea, urethane, guanidine, alkylgtianidines, cyanamide, dicyandiamide, dicyandiamidine. Furthermore, cyclic compounds such as methyldiaminotriazine,
Tri aminotriazine (Mela.min), Melam, Melem, Mellon, Ämmelin and the like. The proportions in which the above-mentioned starting materials for implementation ge are different. You can work in a molar ratio of 1: 1, but both the sulfonamide component and the amino component can be applied in excess. The oxo compounds can be used in the calculated amount; as a rule, however, they are used in excess of 4-15 mol and more.
In general, the water solubility of the condensation products obtained increases as the amount of oxo compound used is increased, and the condensation products can be adapted to the various uses by changing the proportions.
The condensation products used according to the invention can be prepared in such a way that the starting materials are dissolved or suspended in aqueous media and heated for a long time until a water-soluble condensation resin has formed, temperatures of about 60-100 being used, however can also work at higher temperatures and possibly under pressure. You can also use the usual condensing agents, such as. B. Borax, etc., use. If necessary, precondensates can also be prepared from the organic sulfonamides or the amino compounds and oxo compounds and these with. condense the remaining component.
After the condensation has ended, the solutions can either be evaporated or sprayed to isolate the condensates obtained.
These condensation resins are products which, after tanning in the hides or skins, can be converted into insoluble form by the action of electrolytes or heat. With these condensation products, perfect, permanent tanning effects are achieved. These tanning effects can be improved if synthetic resin tanning is combined with fat tanning, that is to say tanning using compounds or substances that contain fat residues. Furthermore, the tanning process can also be combined with other known tanning processes, i.e. tanning with formaldehyde or with mineral, vegetable or synthetic tanning agents.
The quantities in which the water-soluble, resin-like condensation products are used for tanning depend essentially on the type of hide and hide, on the pretreatment of the hide or hide to be tanned and on the type of leather to be produced. In general, the amounts are between 2 and 10% 4, preferably between 2 and 6%, calculated on the pelt weight. the pre-treatment of the hides or
Skins can be done in the usual way. The skins are z. B. prepared in the waterworks by soaking, Sehwöden and / or Äselhern, deliming, pickling or possibly pimples.
The subsequent conversion of the soluble condensation resins into the insoluble form can take place in various ways. An acid treatment is preferably used, for example with formic acid or fatty acid mixtures with low molecular weight first runnings, such as those used in US Pat. B. be obtained in the Pa raffinoxydation, or you cause the insoluble by adding salts, such as. B. ammonium salts such as ammonium chloride.
In certain cases, acid exposure can be avoided. can also be achieved in such a way that one picks the skins (pH 3-4) and thereby already wä'ii> :, ud the impregnation with the condensate ") ir5- resins achieve a gradual conversion into the insoluble form .. One can achieve the transformation also through heat.
The leather or tanned skins obtained by the process are characterized by the fact that they. are light colored or pure white and have good body.
One can. The resulting gel effect can be considerably improved if the tanning is combined with a fat tanning, as already stated at the beginning. This gives significantly softer and fuller leathers and hides with excellent tear resistance. The tanning effect obtained is mainly characterized by aas, (that it is washable.
As a combination treatment for the present process, in addition to other customary tanning processes, tanning with formaldehyde, with chromium or ANluminum salts, as well as degradable tanning, come into consideration.
As starting materials for fat tanning you can use compounds containing fat residues or substances of all kinds. There come z. For example, surface-active substances are considered which, in addition to a higher molecular weight, lipophilic (fatty) residue, contain water-soluble groups and can have both anionic, cationic and non-ionic character. Lipophilic (fatty) radicals are understood as meaning hydrocarbon radicals with at least six carbon atoms of the aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or fatty aromatic series.
These radicals can be interrupted by hetero atoms such as oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen or by groups of atoms derived therefrom, such as. B. carbonamnide and sulfonamide groups, and can also have substituents such. B. Hy droxylgruppen or amino groups wear.
Known anion-active compounds which can be used as fatty residue-bearing components for the process according to the invention are, for example, water-soluble salts of alkyl sulfates with organic or inorganic bases, water-soluble salts of alkyl or inorganic bases.
Alkaline sulfonic acids or of sulfonated oils and fats, furthermore water-soluble salts of fatty acids, resin acids, washing acids and the like, as well as water-soluble condensation products from protein substances or protein breakdown products with fatty acid or sulfonic acid halide larogenic or fatty acid esters or halogenated fatty acid esters.
Quaternary ammonium compounds, which are derived from ammonia or organic bases, as well as corresponding phosphonium or sulfonium compounds and the like, which contain at least one higher molecular weight lipophilic radical, come into consideration as kaiionahtive preventions. Examples of this would be trimethyl octadecylammonium chloride, dodecylpyridinium bisulfate, dimethyleyclohexyloctadecylammonium chloride and the like.
Finally, nonionic compounds are also suitable for fat tanning, in particular the known polyalkylene oxide addition products, in particular ethylene oxide addition products with higher molecular weight alcohols, carboxylic acids, amines, mercaptans or with higher molecular weight aliphatic, aliphatic-aromatic or aromatic sulfonic acids or sulfonic acid amides. Water-soluble condensation products of these higher molecular weight compounds with polyhydric alcohols or ether alcohols such as ethylene glycol, glycerine, polyglycerine, pentaerythritol, sorbitol, dulcitol, mannitol and the like can also be used.
In addition to these products with a predominantly surface-active character, components containing fat residues for fat tanning in the context of the present process also include substances containing other types of fat residues, such as animal or vegetable fatty acids such as olein, animal or vegetable oils or fats such as trane, Tall oil, rosin oil and the like chen, mineral oils or fats, fatty acid or sulfonic acid chlorides, such as. B. Alkvl- or Alkylbenzolsulfosäureehloride or other fatty residues containing substances. reactive halogen atoms, such as. B. higher molecular weight halogen fatty acid esters or -timides and the like.
With the use of fatty tanning agents, the process is carried out in such a way that the resin or fatty tanning components are worked into the hides or skins one after the other in any order or, under certain conditions, at the same time for the fat tanning components between see 1-1004, preferably between? -: @! a.
The fat tanning components are in water ;! Solution or emulsion, the resin tanning components applied in aqueous solution or colloid-disDer distribution.
You can use the process according to the invention ren for the production of leathers from crevices or animal skins, such. B. deer and deer skins, lamb, sheep, kid and goat skins, calf skins, pig skins, cattle skins and other hides of large cattle. Furthermore, the process is of particular value for the tanning of fur skins of all kinds, such as foal, lamb, rabbit and noble skins as well as for tanning reptile skins. You can accordingly use this method, for example, glove leather, clothing leather, shoe upper leather, Ve loursleder, leather for technical purposes and. a. produce.
The percentages given in the following examples relate to pelt weight.
EXAMPLES 1. 32.2 parts by weight of a mixture of p- and o-toluenesulfamide are mixed with 67.2 parts by weight of dieyandiamide and 500 parts by volume of 30% strength formalin solution. After adding 1.3 parts by weight of borax, the mixture is heated on the reflux condenser for a total of 6 hours and the solution is then evaporated in vacuo. A colorless, readily water-soluble resin is obtained.
Pickled veal pelt with a pH value of around 7 is 80-100% o. Water and 10% o of the above mixed condensate 1-3 hours the treated in the barrel and carefully acidified with formic acid to pH 4.5 for the next 2 hours and every 1/2 hour, including a total of about. 0.5% 85% formic acid are necessary. The pelts remain in the barrel for 2-3 hours, are then taken out and beaten over the box for 24-48 hours, then neutralized and licked. In this way, you get a soft, white leather with good tear resistance.
2. Pickled veal pelt with a pH value of about 7 is treated with 80-100% water and 3% c of the mixed condensate mentioned in example 1 for 2 hours in the barrel, then with about 0.65% formic acid to pH 4, 5 partially acidified within 1/2-a¹ hour. After a further 2-3 hours running time, the skins are removed, beaten over the box overnight and the next morning drummed with 60% water and 5% of a 50% ocenol sodium sulfate paste for 1 to 3 hours and then gradually with 2% potassium alum (in a ratio of 1:10 dissolved in water) added. After a further running time of 1-2 hours, the skins are removed, dried and staked.
3. 86 parts by weight of p-toluenesulfamide are mixed with 120 parts by weight of urea and 1250 parts by volume of a 30% own formalin solution with 13 parts of borax and heated to boiling for 21/2 hours on a cooling flow cooler. Samples taken during the reaction initially become cloudy when diluted, but later become clearly soluble in water. The clear water-soluble condensation product is sprayed at about 100-120. A colorless resin which is readily soluble in water is obtained.
Pickled veal pelts with a pH value of about 7 are treated with 100% water and 3% of the above mixed condensate in the barrel for 2 hours and then with. 0.5% formic acid (85%) acidified to pH 4.5 within% hours and allowed to run for another hour.
In the same liquor 1.5 / o chromium oxide (in the form of a 33% basic chrome tanning agent) are given in 2 installments within 1 hour in the running Fa.ss ge. The chrome tanning is carried out as usual and the leather is then hung over the trestle for 24 hours. The leather is processed as usual.
The dye and fat absorption is gtit. Very full leathers with closed grains are obtained.
4. Production of lining and fine leather. After decalcifying and pickling, the pelts are rinsed and then used for pre-tanning: 80-100% water, 0.8-1.5% of a water-soluble resin precondensate of o- and p-toluenesulfamide, dicyandiamide and formaldehyde 1 : 10, ge dissolves at a temperature of 50-60 C. and possibly
2% u of a liquor oil emulsified with a cation soap.
Running time 3 hours.
The pretanned leathers remain in the barrel overnight, are agitated for another hour the next day and then adjusted to pH 4.6 with organic Sünisehei, acid or an organic acid mixture.
The leathers are then placed over the trestle for 2 days and rinsed for 5 minutes before the vegetable / synthetic aftertreatment. Retanning: 80-100% a water, normal temperature, 10% pure tanning material, consisting of: 30 parts of quebracho, 40 parts of mimosa and 40 parts of a synthetic tanning agent, as is commonly used for lining leather manufacture.
Running time 11/2 to 3 hours.
The leathers have a light, even appearance, have a full grip and are highly tear-resistant. The tensile strength is particularly good if the resin tanning is used at the same time as a cationic fatliquor. 5. Manufacture of vachette leathers. Pre-tanning 80-120% water, normal temperature, 1-2% of a resin precondensate made of p-toluenesulfamnide, urea and formaldehyde, dissolved 1:10 at 50-60 C, possibly 2-3% addition of a liation soap emulsified mineral oil emulsion.
Tanning time 1 to 11/2 days.
After tanning, the leathers are adjusted to a pH of 4.4 to 4.6 with organic acids.
Then it is rinsed, whereby it is advisable to stack the leather for 1-2 days beforehand. Retanning: 80-100% water, normal temperature, 10-15% pure tanning agent, consisting of 20 parts Valonea, 40 parts Mimosa and 40 parts of a synthetic tanning agent such as is commonly used in vachette tanning.
Tanning time 2-3 days.
After 1-3 days of storage, the leather is rinsed. Further treatment and greasing are carried out as usual. The amount of fat can be reduced by half the usual amount if fat substance has already been added to the resin tanning process. 6. Manufacture of lower leather.
Limescale is removed from the pelts as usual and, if necessary, pickled. The exposed skin should be free of lime in the outer layers. The inner vision, around 50-70% a of the entire cross-section of the skin, does not need to be decalcified. Pre-tanning 100% liquor weighted from the pelt, 0.1% of a resin precondensate of p-toluenesulfamide, dicyandiamide and formaldehyde, calculated on the amount of liquor or
1% of the same resin condensate, based on the pelt weight.
PH of the liquor 7-7.5. Tanning time 11/2 to 2 days.
Adjusting the leather to a pH of 4.2 (outer layer) and 5.2 (inner layer). Stack for 1 day and then rinse. Retanning: Retanning takes place in the pit by hanging the pretanned leather in an 8-12 B. strong vegetable / synthetic tanning liquor. After 3-5 weeks the leather is tanned through.
The tanning time depends on the thickness of the hide. End-Be 9.5 with an initial brew strength of 11 B6. Stack leather 1 / 2-1 day, rinse briefly, dry and, if necessary, oil.
Even with the relatively short tanning time, the leather is well and evenly tanned through, has a greasy cut and a light-colored leather surface that is free from tannin deposits.
