Process for manufacturing a waterproof winding crown and crown obtained by this process. The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the crown which is the subject of the invention and illustrates a few steps of an implementation of the method according to the invention.
Fig.1 is a sectional view of a cou ronne constituting this embodiment. Fig. 2 shows an element before its installation.
The fia. 3 is a sectional view showing the crown of 1a fig.1 in the working position. The winding crown 1 (fig.l) has a cylindrical cavity 2 on the bottom 3 of which a barrel 4 protrudes. This barrel is also cylindrical and it extends co-axially with the cavity 2. A threaded opening 5 is drilled axially in this ca non, which arrives almost flush with the outer edge of the cavity 2. A cylindrical housing 6 , coaxial with the cavity 2, is made in the crown, at the entrance of said cavity.
This housing 6 is intended to receive a washer 7 made of plastic, for example synthetic rubber agglomerated with a lubricant. Before its installation, this ron delle 7 has the shape shown in FIG. 2.11; 11e is flat and has an opening 8 whose diameter is between three-quarters and half, and is preferably three-fifths that of tube 9 of box 10 (fig. 3) , around which crown 1 is intended to rotate. The outside diameter of the washer 7 approximately corresponds to that of the housing 6.
By putting this plastic washer 7 in place in its housing 6, it suffices to fold it back towards the inside of the cavity 2, in the form of a funnel, as shown in FIG. 1, because the diameter of the opening 8 of the washer 7 is also smaller than the diameter of the barrel 4.
The washer 7 once placed in its housing is definitively retained there by a .metallic washer 11 which is forcibly driven into this housing 6, over the ron delle 7. This washer 11 also has a central opening, of which the diameter is slightly larger than that of tube 9. This metal washer 11 not only retains the plastic washer 7 in place in the housing 6, but it clamps it so as to hold it there firmly, even if this plastic washer is biased radially towards the inside of the cavity 2.
The thicknesses of the washers 7 and 11 are such that when they are in place in the housing 6, the latter still has a portion 12 intended to be crimped, as shown at 13, so as to prevent the metal washer 11 comes out of the housing 6 under the action of the plastic washer 7.
Fig. 1 shows the crown thus completed but not placed around the watch tube. It may happen that this crown must be stored for a rather long period, before being assembled and used. In this case, the plastic washer 7 is not subjected to excessive pressures, so that it does not incur any fatigue, the material constituting this washer retaining all of its properties unchanged.
Fig. 3 shows the crown of FIG. 1 in place around the tube 9 of a watch box 10. The threaded opening 5 is intended to be screwed as usual to the end of the threaded winding rod, not shown. The outer diameter of the tube 9 and the diameter of the cavity 2 are such that there remains between these two parts a space slightly smaller than the thickness of the washer 7 so that the latter is clamped between these two walls. The plastic material of this compressed washer therefore extends upwards in FIG. 3, that is to say-towards the bottom of cavity 2.
The dimensions of the latter as well as those of the washer 7 are such that said washer is compressed radially in this space, so as to constitute a tight seal with the tube 9, regardless of the dimensions of the washer then variations due to temperature, pressure and other conditions to which the crown is subjected during use. Thus, if the material of the washer 7 were to withdraw, for example under the influence of any one of the factors mentioned above, said washer would still be sufficiently compressed for it to still apply in such a manner. tight around the tube 9.
If, on the other hand, the material of the washer 7 expands, this material could easily extend into the space 14 left free above it, in the bottom of the cavity 2. This space 14, which is sufficiently large so that the washer 7 does not fill it in any case, acts as an expansion chamber for this washer. When the crown described has been in place around the tube 9 for a while and is there. removed, during a repair for example, the washer 7 takes up roughly the position shown in fig.1.
