L'appareil, objet. de l'invention, est carac térisé en ce que le couvercle, retenu en posi tion fermée par un dispositif de blocage, porte un mécanisme d'avancement de la pelli cule et. en ce qu'un mécanisme de réenroule- ment de la. pellicule est. prévu de manière à s'armer et tendre à ramener ladite pellicule dans ledit. magasin au fur et à mesure qu'elle en est. extraite par le mécanisme d'avance nient, un mécanisme à commande manuelle étant destiné à déclencher ledit dispositif de bloea;
Roll-up film camera. The object of the present invention is a photogmaphique apparatus for roll film, comprising a magazine containing the. film reserve and a collector for the already impressed film, provided in a case and. separated from each other by a frame determining the exposure surface of the film, the whole being enclosed inside the casing by a cover hinged to the latter.
The object of the invention is to create a photographic apparatus in which the film can be quickly advanced, and the cover of which is not liable to open so accidentally, as long as the film is not completely rewound in the magazine. , the operation of this device being designed in such a way as to avoid as much as possible the unpleasant effects of false maneuvers.
The device, object. of the invention, is charac terized in that the cover, retained in the closed position by a locking device, carries a mechanism for advancing the pelli cule and. in that a rewinding mechanism of the. wrap is. provided so as to arm and tend to return said film in said. store as it is. extracted by the advance mechanism deny, a manually operated mechanism being intended to trigger said bloea device;
, e and a locking device allowing actuation of said manually operated mechanism only when the m-. rewinding mechanism occupies its initial position in which the film is completely wound up in said magazine.
The magazine can be arranged so that the number of shots taken is indicated on the opaque magazine envelope, in a simple manner, with each movement of the film advance lever, this indication being able to be changed at any time. moment what conch.
One embodiment of this device is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the device in the open position.
Fig. 9- represents the cover of the device in the same way.

Fig. 7 is a section taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 6.
Fig. 8 is a cross section of the automatic film rewind motor. Fig. 9 is a section taken along line 9-9 of FIG. 8.
Fig. 10 is a section taken along line 10-10 of FIG. 8, and fig. 11 is a plan view from below of the rotor of FIG. 8.
The apparatus shown comprises a housing 15 with a cover 16 for closing the film compartments - and the exposure surface of the apparatus generally delimited by a frame 17. The front portion of the apparatus is not shown in detail, because the invention does not relate to the type of shutter, lens, lens mount chosen.
The housing 15 has two compartments, one of which houses the film magazine 18 and the other stores the printed film. The cover 16 carries the presser 19 which, when closed, pushes the film against the frame 17, exerting a sufficient force so that the film is. flat in the exposure window. The presser 19 is spring-loaded on the cover 16 by means of springs 21, shown in detail in FIG. 6. A latch 22 mounted on the end of cover 16 cooperates with a latch mechanism described hereinafter. The presser 19 also has slits 23 through which the claws 25 of the film advance mechanism pass.
Use is made in the apparatus shown of a perforated film and, therefore, the film drive elements are. the claws 2.5 which cooperate with the perforations of the film. Other types of devices may have different drive devices, such as replacement friction pads, prongs and pulling film out of the magazine.
A film advancement lever 26 mounted on cover 16 (Fig. 2) serves to manually operate the film advancement mechanism. A rotary indicator 27 of the number of views taken cooperating with a mark 28 is arranged in the corner of the left side of the cover 16. The indicator 27 operates automatically under the effect of the movement of the advancing lever 26. A The corner of the right side of the cover 16 is disposed a similar marking device, serving to provide other indications, for example the type of film loaded in the apparatus.
The store 18 (Fig. 3) has standard dimensions and is of a common form of construction. It has 30 cover plates which adjust. on a case 31. The film passes through a slot in the case and its end is folded back, in order to prevent the film from accidentally entering the magazine. A shaft 32 comes out of the magazine and forms part of the spool of the. film inside the store not shown in detail. The shaft 32 has notches 34, into which penetrates, when it is placed in the device, the key 90 (fig. 8 and 11) of the rewinding mechanism.
The fi, -. 4 shows in more detailed form the mechanical devices which are found inside the housing 1.5. To make the figure clearer, the cover 16, which can rotate on a hinge 35, is not shown. We can see inside the compartment. of the magazine a sliding bolt 36, supported by rivets 37. A spring 39 normally maintains. the lock in its highest position. The shape of the latch 22 of the cover (FIG. 2) and that of the latch 36 are chosen so that by closing the cover, the engagement between the two latch elements is caused.
The opening of the lock depends on the operation of other devices of the appliance. It can be seen that the latch 36 comprises a pro longement 40, which cooperates with a cam 41 of a sliding bar 43. This constitutes the main operating element, its movement is. parallel to the housing and. it is maintained by collars 44 fixed to the housing. A spring 46 pushes the bar 43 into the upper normal closed position of the latch 36. The bar 43 also comprises two transverse elements 47 which each couple with a lever bar 48, of which only that which is in the vicinity of the compartment. The collector is shown in detail.
The lever bars 48 oscillate in the box 15 and each of them comprises two lever arms 49, movable in a recess of the box 15 and normally flush with it when the bar 43 is in the locking position. It can be seen that when the bar 43 advances from left to right, against the action of the spring. 46, the lever arms 49 exit the housing as the bars 48 rotate, as will be described later.
We can see in fig. 4, above the magazine compartment, part of the rewinding mechanism, which comprises a motor actuated by a spring. The leaf spring. 51 of this motor is fixed at one end on the housing 1'5 by a stud 52; and its other end is fixed on the rotor 54. The outer turn of the spring 51 is bent so as to form a cam 55, which cooperates with a heel 56 forming part of a lever 57 oscillating on the housing 15 and subjected to the action of the spring 53. This lever has a nose 58 which can slide into a stop 59 of the bar 43.
A clutch device consisting of a coil spring 60, shown in part, is intended to allow the rotation of the rotor 54 normally only in one direction. One end of this spring 60 is attached to a cross bar 61 attached to the bar 43 and projecting outside the housing so as to be able to receive a hand release button 65 (Fig. 1). The other end of the spring 60 is fixed to the housing (fig. 8).
The magazine compartment has a scalloped portion allowing the magazine to be easily inserted therein as well as a hole 63 lo ging a lower extension of the shaft of the film reel of certain magazines. The collector compartment of the apparatus does not contain a reel, but an elastic band 64 for guiding the film, visible in the cross section of the fia. 5. The film discharged into the magazine follows the curvature of this strip and rolls up on itself as the guide strip expands in the compartment. As has already been said, the film is pulled out of the magazine of the compartment by the claws 25 and is forced back into the collecting compartment.
The advancement of the skin is carried out in a very simple manner and the mechanism serving for this purpose is shown in detail in figs. 6 and 7. The advancement lever 26 enters the cover 16 and ends with a clevis-shaped element 66 between the branches of which a stud 67 of a transverse bar 68 is housed. The stud 67 slides in a window 69 cut from the inner support plate 70. The cross bar 68 carries spring brackets 72 which hold. the claws 25.
It is easy to see that the movement of the advancement lever 26 causes a similar angular movement of the yoke 66 in. forcing the crossbar @ 68 to slide in the direction of the lever movement. The prongs 25, which normally rest on the magazine housing, enter the perforations in the film as the lever 26 is rotated and exit the magazine a sufficient length to take a picture. When the lever 26 returns to its initial position, the curved end of the claws 25 and the elastic supports 72 allow the claws to pass over the perforations of the film without catching them.
This movement is also facilitated by the presser 19 which exerts sufficient pressure to prevent the film from sliding back.
The film advancement device described above is also coupled with a simple frame counter constituted by an indicator 2.7 penetrating into the cover 16 and ending in a ratchet wheel 74. A spring 75, held by a support 76 , attached to the support plate 70, penetrates the teeth of the ratchet wheel 74 and prevents it from rotating freely. The yoke 66 has a nose 77 which, in the end-of-travel position of the lever 26, engages the teeth of the ratchet wheel 74 and turns it by one step with each movement. advance of the film.
The indicator 27 can also be rotated by hand, even against the spring 75, to reset this indicator to. zero when placing a new magazine in the device.
Figs. 8, 9, 10 and. 11 show, in various sections, the details of the rewinding mechanism. The rotor 54 consists of a hollow cylindrical element rotatably mounted on a pinion 79 integral with a base plate 80 fixed to the housing 15. The base plate has a circular drum 82 coaxial with the pinion 79. The inner face of the drum 82 is intended to make frictional contact with centrifugal vanes 83 pivoting on the sleeve-shaped portion 84 of rotor 54.
The pinion 79 has a threaded portion 85 on which is engaged a: disc 86, movable concentrically to the pinion 79. The disc 86 has notches 87 at its periphery, which cooperate with Ion-i- tudinal guides 88 provided on the inner face of the rotor 54. Stops 89 are mounted on the pinion 79 at each end of its threaded portion 85. These stops 89 limit the axial travel of the disc 86 on the pinion 79. The rotor 54 is therefore capable of driving the, rotating disc 86, via the guides 88, engaged in the notches 87.
When disc 86 is driven in this manner by rotor 54, it moves axially relative to pinion 79, along which it is. guided by the threaded portion 8: 5, up or down, depending on the direction of rotation of the rotor. By rotating in continuous rotation, in one direction, the rotor 54 ends up applying the disc 8,6 against one or the other of the stops 89, which then block not only the disc, but also the rotor 54, via the notches 87 and guides 88, preventing any subsequent rotation thereof in said direction.
The limitation mechanism described above determines the total number of turns of the rewind mechanism and the mainspring 51 can be put under appropriate preliminary tension, tending to rotate the rotor 54 in the direction of the rewind. In this position of preliminary tension, the disc 86 is located at the lower end of its stroke on the pinion 79 and rests against the lower stop 89.
The spring clutch 60, which was discussed in connection with the. fia. 4 wraps around the outer wall of the cylindrical rotor 54. One end of the spring is. embedded in the base plate 80. The direction of the winding of the clutch spring is chosen so as to prevent retro-grade rotational movement of the rotor 54 when the latter rotates against the action of the rotor. leaf spring. 51, especially since this rotational movement tends to tighten clutch 60. In other words, rotor 54 in contact. friction with the turns of the clutch 60 contributes to the normal clamping action by the aforementioned turns of the outer surface of the rotor.
On the other hand, the movement of the rotor in the opposite direction, against the action of the spring 51, exerts an opposite action on the clutch 60 having it. tendency to. cause the friction loosening of each turn. To turn the rotor 54 in the opposite direction to the tightening of the spring 51, it suffices to exert on it a force greater than that of the spring. The clutch 60 exerts no frictional force in the direction of this movement.
The rotor 54 enters the. lower part of the housing 15 and has a key 90, which, as has already been said, penetrates into the notches 34 of the shaft 32 of the. reel of magazine film 18. The lower wall of the rotor 54 faces the interior of the rotor. key 90, a notched portion 91, located opposite a key 92 of a shaft 93, capable of sliding in the pinion 79. Cet. shaft crosses the pinion right through; it comes out of the housing 15 and carries a button 94. The shaft 93 is biased upwards, in FIG. 8, by a spring 95 housed in a recessed portion of the button 94, so that the key 92 does not penetrate into the notched portion 91.
The button 94 constitutes with the shaft 93 a device allowing. to turn the rotor 54 by hand, if, for some reason, the spring 51 does not induce the rewinding of the film. Since the entire motor is enclosed in the housing 15, it cannot be accessed directly, unless the device is dismantled. This is why and for the reason.
given later in connection with the description of the operation of the various elements cooperating with one another, that it is more important that there is a device allowing the mechanism of the rotor to be actuated by hand.
In order to follow the description of the operation of the mechanisms combined with one another, the various figures in the drawing should be considered together. Assume that a magazine is inserted into the magazine compartment and the magazine spool shaft 32 enters the rewind rotor key 90. When the cover 16 is closed, the latch 22 engages with the latch 36 and therefore the cover is kept in the closed position.
As long as you do not act: on the feed lever 26 and (the film is. Not pulled out of the magazine, you can open the cover again freely. By sliding the release trigger by hand latching 65 in the direction opposite to the action of the spring 46, until the cam 41 lowers the extension 40 of the latch 36. This position is indicated on the housing by the letter 0.
It will be noted that the release trigger 65 can occupy three positions, the normal position of which is indicated by the letter (I is suitable for normal use of the device, the letter R designates the intermediate rewinding position. And the letter 0 la open position.
When the advancement lever 26 is brought into the position of FIG. 2, the prongs 25 pull a suitable length of film. at the first shot. The film is held flat against the frame 17 by the presser 19. During. In this movement, the rotational movement of the film reel coupled to the rotor 54 by means of the key 90 and the shaft 32 makes. turn the rotor and wind the spring 51.
The cam surface 55 thus leaves the follower 56 and. the lever 57, pushed by the spring 53, can come into a position in which the nose 58 penetrates the stop 59 of the bar 43. The latter is thus blocked and the trigger 65 cannot, cause movement of the bar of sufficient amplitude to enable it to reach its open position.
The trigger 65 can only receive a limited movement sufficient to engage the spring clutch 60, which, as has already been said, is coupled with the crossbar 61. This limited position is the indicated rewind position. by the letter R in which the clutch 60 first releases and the spring 51 can exert its action, rotating the rotor 54 and rewinding the film on the spool. Once this operation is completed, the nose 58 comes out.
of the stopper 59, since the cam surface 55 has returned to its initial position. The cover can then be opened by bringing the trigger 65 to its open position and the bar 43 can slide over a sufficient length to release the lock 36.
It will be noted that the bar 43 in its rewinding position also acts on the bars 48, thus bringing the levers 49 in the direction transverse to the presser 19 and lifting this presser so as to stop the pressure exerted on the film against the film. frame 17. The action of the res out motor is quite rapid and when a sufficient length of film has already been pressed, the movement. Rapid rewinding would damage the film if the presser remained in contact with it.
The force exerted by the presser during the slow advancement movement of the skin between the magazine and the reader neck compartment does not matter and during this operation, the presser 19 can remain in its normal position in contact with it. film.
When the bar 43 occupies its rewinding position and that, consequently, the spring clutch does not retain the rotor, the latter rotates under the a.ction of the spring 51 which unwinds. The pressure exerted by this spring varies as a function of the value of its tension which also depends on the length of the films arriving in the collector compartment. When the film is used to the end, the tension of the spring 51 reaches its maximum value and this spring, by suddenly relaxing, tends to rewind the film at greater speed.
But the movement of the rotor is slowed down by the centrifugal vanes 83 which, eii because of this. effort, move aside and come into contact. friction with the drum 8 ?. This friction effort does. decrease it. rotor drum speed at normal rewinding speed for the entire number of revolutions to be completed by rotor 54 to rewind the entire length of the film into the magazine.
The effective braking action exerted by this simple speed regulator, because the centri fuge vanes 83 come. in contact with the drum 82, can be reinforced by interposing a suitable transmission between the sleeve 84 and the rotor 54 to allow the fins 83 to rotate faster than the rotor. This transmission can be of any suitable type depending on the conditions. of construction, and that is why it is not represented.
The advantage of the rewinding of the film caused by a spring will not fail to be appreciated by all those who have had to carry out the tedious operation of threading the film into a second reel of the previous apparatuses and to wind each one. film portion impressed with a button. Once the film has been printed, the film reels must be exchanged for the next operation. With the apparatus described, the movement of a finger suffices to cause the almost instantaneous rewinding of the film in the initial magazine.
If the automatic rewinding device does not work for some reason, the rewinding can be done by hand by means of the button 94. The user can rewind 1a. film on the spool by pressing. on the button 94 against the action of the spring 95 and rotate it until the key 92 enters the notch of the element 91.
A mechanical coupling is thus produced and the rotor 54 of the rewinding motor can then be rotated in any direction by the rewinding button by hand. This operation also facilitates the penetration of the key 90 into the notches 34 of the coil introduced at the time. loading, the device. The faces of these elements may not always be in a cooperative position and as rewinding by hand allows. to rotate the rotor 54 in both directions, a slight rotational movement of the knob is sufficient to bring these elements into appropriate engagement.
