Caisse enregistreuse.

Une came 110 (fig.
Cash register. The present invention relates to a cash register, for example cash register in which different kinds of itemized accounts or transactions are. recorded. In many cases, and in particular there. where the tax laws play it is. necessary to determine the total of the different items that have been recorded for a given transaction, so that the operator can know the amount of the tax relating to this transaction and that it is. necessary to add to the total.
Cash registers generally include a so-called list key, that is, grouping the items of a complete transaction from a seller. This key which is lowered and which remains lowered while several items are entered which are part of a single transaction will be referred to hereinafter as the brace key.
Once all the articles in any one multi-article trans action have. been entered, a totalizing lever is moved to the subtotal position, that is, the intermediate total of the items of a complete seller transaction, excluding tax. This position allows the subtotal to be read and is intended to determine the total amount of various items and to allow the operator to calculate the amount of tax to be added.
When the tax has been registered, the totalizer lever is moved to the first position below the addition position which is the item total position and. we activate it. machine. The full amount of the transaction, that is, the total of the items plus the amount of the. tax, is. then saved and printed.
The machines known to this t @ -pe are equipped with seller-buyer counters which are set to mark a unit for each complete transaction made by one of the sellers.
Since a seller key is lowered at the start of a transaction comprising multiple items and remains lowered during the addition of each of the items in that transaction, an individual seller counter is selected for. each item entry transaction. However, it would be desirable to prevent this specially selected counter from coming into action during the entry of each of the different items of the multiple item transaction.
To this end., The cash register forming the subject of the invention comprises control keys, an individual counter associated with each control key, a differential mechanism capable of being brought into position under the control of said keys to select a given item counter, to make it work when the corresponding control key is used, organs conditioning the cash register for a series of multiple item operations, and a total device of this series.
This machine is characterized in that it is provided with a retaining device capable, when the cash register is in the position for registering a series of multiple articles, to keep the differential mechanism in a position. for which he cannot select an item counter during the recording of the individual sums of the series, this retainer being deactivated when the total device operates in such a way as to release the differential mechanism so that he can select a item counter corresponding to which of the control keys is used for the multiple item operation.
In some known cash registers, a mechanism automatically returns the totalizer lever from the first total position to an addition position, at the end of an addition operation.
However, when the totalizer lever is moved to the first position above the addition position, which is the sub-total position of the various items used to determine the amount of tax to be counted, the operator is obliged to return the totalizer lever to its addition position by hand. The embodiment of the cash register described below has the advantage of comprising a mechanism making it possible to automatically drive the totalizer lever from the sub-total position.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the cash register which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1. is a side elevational view, partially cut away, showing the brace key of row 1 and the vendor keys of row 2, as well as a mechanism controlled by the brace key and used to control the differential mechanism of the row 2, to prevent addition in special counters in row 2 during list operations.
Fig. 2 is a diagram of part of the keyboard; it also shows a totalizer lever and its different positions.

training mechanics of the. nt.achrirte. The cash register shown is provided with a main camshaft 30 (Fig. 6) supported by side frames 28 and 29 (Fig. 5). This shaft 30 completes a revolution, in the direction of the arrow indicated in FIG. 6, during each entry operation of an item and two revolutions during the subtotal and the total.
The camshaft 30 can be actuated either by an engine or by means of a crank (not shown) which is able to engage with a pinion 31 mounted on it hollow shaft 32 on which it can turn. The pinion 31 is engaged with a toothed wheel 33 mounted on an axle 34. The wheel 33 is engaged with a toothed wheel 35 fixed on the main shaft 30. Two turns of the pinion 31 correspond to one revolution of the wheel 35 and shaft 30. During read operations (subtotal), as well as during, total operations, red 35 and shaft 30 perform two complete revolutions.
To ensure the return of the components to their initial position, a cam 36, mounted on the main shaft 30, cooperates with a roller 37 fixed on an arm 38 which pivots at 39 on the frame 28 of the machine (FIG. 5). A strong spring comes out 40 (fig. 6) keeps the roller 37 in constant contact with the cam 36. When the shaft 30 turns, the cam 36 tightens the spring 40 until, towards the end of the revolution. of the shaft 30, the roller 37 passes at the top of the cam 36, after which the spring 40 returns the arm 38 and the cam 36 to their normal position, thus ensuring the return of the main shaft 30 to its normal position.
Keyboard. The cash register represented comprises a totalizing lever 41 (fig. 2) which can be moved in a slide 42 cut in the key compartment of the machine, so as to be able to occupy its various positions above and below a position. central addition. The trunk has hinged doors that serve as openings to provide access to the various mechanisms when needed.
These doors are fitted with locks to protect the mechanism and prevent it from being tampered with by unauthorized persons.
In addition, the cash register has three rows of control keys and several rows of amount keys. The rows of control keys are designated by 1, 2, 3 in fig. 2. In row 1. For example, there is a List 43 key and several other 44 keys, such as Account, Credit, Payout, Expense, and Change. Row 2 includes vendor keys 45 and row 3 includes department keys 46 designated as X1 through X9. The number of rows of upright keys 47 depends on the desired capacity.
Fig. 1 indicates how the list key 43 is carried in row 1 and the clerk keys 45 in row 2. The key 43 and the other keys 44 of row 1 are mounted in a frame 50 which itself is. fixed on transverse rods 51 and. 52 which are. supported by the side frames 28 and 29 (fig. 5).
The vendor's keys 45 (Fig. 1) are mounted in a frame 53 which is supported by the rods 51 and 52 in the usual manner.
As for the spoke keys 46 (fig. 2) and the upright keys 47, their assembly is not shown, because it is done by frames similar to the frames 50 and 53 and which are also carried by the rods 51 and 52 .
List key 43 (Fig. 1) carries a cooperating pin 55. with an inclined edge 56 of a lever 57 pivoting on a rod 58. The edge 56 of the lever 57 is normally held in contact with the pin 55 by a spring 59.
When the list key 43 is lowered, the pin 55 rocks the lever 57 in the dextrorsum direction for a purpose which will be explained later on. description of the control of the operating mechanism of the speci2LLx counters.
Connected to the row of keys (the seller 45 is Lin arm 60, differentially adjustable, which carries a differential mechanism 61 of known type. It is provided with a lug 62 which engages Lin arm 63, which pivots on the rod 58 This differential arm 60 is controlled by the clerk keys, which have been lowered to cause differential placement of the arm 60 during the operation of the cash register.
The cash register is provided with a certain number of special counters advancing step by step and assigned to each of the clerk keys 45. However, FIG. 3 only indicates two of these counters.
In normal single item operations, when a clerk key 45 is depressed, the corresponding special counter is selected to receive one unit added to account for the number of transactions for which the relevant clerk is responsible.
However, for multi-item transactions, it is a good idea that the special counter of the seller responsible for the transaction only operates once and that when totaling the different items of this transaction. Consequently, a special mechanism is provided for these counters which controls the action of the counter control mechanism, so that, during the addition of the individual items, none of the selected counters works and neither does it work. plus for the subtotal operation to determine the tax that should be debited and added to the transaction total.
This type of counter used is known to them. Also, a brief description of the counters will suffice.
Each counter comprises a certain number of wheels 71 (FIG. 3) mounted freely on a shaft 7? which itself rests on a support frame 73 resting on the bars 51 and 52. The counters are set up to receive a step-by-step movement, thanks to an advance pawl 74 mounted on support levers 75 capable of pivoting on the 72 trees that carry them. The pawls 74 cooperate with a ratchet 76 attached to the side of the wheels 71, so that the ratchet 76 and hence the wheel 71 move forward by the action of the pawl 74 to count l. each time the lever 75 pawl carriers operate in the manner which will be described below.
Each lever 75 carries a link 77 articulated at the other end to a split link 78 mounted on a lug 79 on which it can slide, the lugs being mounted on the frame 73.
A selector arm 80 is provided for each counter 71. It is moved differentially under the control of the clerk keys 45. In other words, when the K key 45 is lowered, the selector arm is moved to a position which allows it to select the lower counter (fig. 3), while key J 45 selects the counter immediately above.
With each of the special counters 71 is associated an operating bar 81 capable of pivoting at its lower end on a lever 82 which itself pivots at 83 on the frame 73. The upper end of the. bar 81. carries a number of slots 84 receiving the lugs which form the pivoting point. between rods 77 and 78.
When the bar 81 moves downwards, under the action of a mechanism described below, the lugs of the ends of the links 7 7 are also driven downwards and the split links 78 slide on the lugs 79 which support them. , except that of the links 78 which corresponds to the selector arm 80 which has been brought into an active position. For this latter case, the rod 78 of the selected meter comes into contact with the end of the selector arm 80 and cannot move.
This link 78 and the corresponding link 77 therefore form a toggle which, when it is stretched by the downward movement of the bar 81, turns the ratchet lever 75 and causes the counter wheel to turn one notch. 71 to add 1.
Operation of the bar 81.
The operating mechanism of the operating bar 81 of the special counter is driven by a shaft 91 (fig. 3, 4 and 5) which receives its movement from the main camshaft 30 as follows: main cam 30 (Fig. 4) carries a worm 92 engaged with a worm 93 -which is fixed by a sleeve 94 to. a control plate 95 (see also fig. 11). The worm 93, the sleeve 94 and the plate 95 are. mounted loosely on the shaft 91. On the plate 95 a drive pawl 96 pivots in relation to a control lug 97 fixed to a collar 98 which is fixedly mounted on the shaft 91.
When the shaft 30 is rotated, the worm 92 drives the worm 93 and hence the plate 95, so that the driving pawl 96, due to its relation to the lug 97, causes at collar 98 and at ar ber 91 one complete revolution for each revolution of camshaft 30. In fig. 11, this movement is done in the senestrorsum direction and in fig. 5 in the dextrorsum direction.
To prevent backward movement of the shaft 91, a stop pawl 99 cooperates with the other shoulder of the lug 97. This pawl 99 is connected by a spring 100 to the pawl. coach 96.
The shaft 91 receives a complete rotational movement, during the addition operations, for each rotation performed by the camshaft 30, which, as we have seen, performs a rotation during the addition operations. .
However, for total operations, the camshaft 30 makes two full turns, but it is necessary to immobilize the shaft 91 during. the first rotation of the shaft 30 for all the total and sub-total operations. As a result, a device under the control of the totalizer lever 41 operates to immobilize the shaft 91 during the first cycle of a total operation.
This mechanism (fig. 4 and 11) comprises an arm 101 fixed to a shaft 102, the operation of which will be described later. A connecting rod 103 connects the arm 101 to another arm 104 mounted idle on a shaft 105 which is supported by the side frames 28 and 29 of the cash register (FIG. 5). The arm 104 (fig. 4) carries a finger 106 which, when the lever 41 operates to tilt the shaft 102, also swings in the dextrorsal direction and is placed in the position indicated in fig. 11. In this position, it cooperates with the end of the pawl. coach 96.
When finger 106 has been brought into the position shown and shaft 30 begins its first rotation during the total and subtotal operations, the rotation of the plate 95 causes the end of the pawl 96 to engage. with the finger 106 and. swings the pawl in the dextrorsal direction, thus freeing its front part from the lug 97, so that it can mount on the outer periphery of the latter and not drag the collar 98 or the shaft 91 during the first rotation of the camshaft 30, still during the total and sub-total operations.
When the first operation or rotation of the plate 95 is completed, the driving pawl 96 returns to its housing indicated in FIG. 11, and when the shaft 30 rotates a second time during the total or subtotal operation, the pawl actuates the 91-, shaft because at that time the finger. 106 is. released from pawl 96 as a result of movement of shaft 102, as described below.
A cam 110 (fig. 3 and 5) fixed on the shaft 91 cooperates with a roller 111 fixed on an arm 112 which itself is mounted on a sleeve 113 integral with an arm 17..1 capable of pivoting on a shaft 115 supported by the side frames 28 and 29 of the cash register.
This arm 114 is articulated to a connecting rod 116 which carries a lug 117 engaged in a notch 118 of an arm 119 fixed to a flanged sleeve 120. The latter is mounted idle on a shaft 121 supported by the frames 28 and 29. An arm 122, integral with the sleeve 120, carries a slot in which engages a lug 123 of the lever 82 which has been described above. A res sort 124 normally retains the parts in. position indicated in fig. 3. The roller 111 is held against the cam 110, and the operating bar 81 is held in the position shown.
When the shaft 91 rotates the cam 110, the roller. 111 gets up, and does. tilt the arms 112 and 114, which lifts the connecting rod 116 and, via the lug. 117, swings arms 119 and 122 in the dextrorsum direction. In turn, the lever 82 swings in the senestorsum direction and the operating bar 81 is lowered in the manner described to operate the links 78 and 77, in order to actuate the pawl 71 which drives the corresponding wheel 71 of the counter that advances by one. The rods 78 and 77 set in motion are those which face the selected position of the arm 80 controlled by the. 45 lowered seller key.
From the above, it is evident that during the registration of each single item transaction, which represents a normal addition operation, the selected special counter 71 is operated to add one unit, so that the seller responsible for the transaction is credited with it.
It is also clear that, during the first cycle or first rotation of the camshaft 30, at each total or sub-total operation, the shaft 91 (FIG. 3) is made impossible to rotate. . Therefore, the lever 82 is not driven in the dextrorsal direction by the intermediate mechanism shown in fig. 3 and, consequently, the selected special counter does not start moving during the first cycle of this kind of operation.
Whenever the totalizer lever .11. is brought to one of the read positions, for each of rows 1, 2 and 3, it is necessary to render the operating mechanism of bar 81 inoperative, so that, for these operations, none of the counters of seller does not work. The control totalizer lever 11 (fig. 3, 1 and 5) pivots on a sleeve 1211 mounted on an axis 125 in the usual manner.
The rotation of the shaft 102 (fig. 3, 1 and 7) is obtained as follows: This shaft 102 receives two movements, one directly under the action of the totalizer lever released from its addition position in both sense, and a mechanical movement by the means described phis far. The direction of movement of the shaft 102 is senestrorsum as shown in Figs. 3 and 1 and dextrorsum in fig. 6 and 7.
As shown in fig. 7, the totalizer lever 11 is provided with a cam slot 130 into which is inserted a stud 131 of a lever 132 which pivots at 133 on the side frame 28. The lever 132 is connected by a slot 131 to an arm 135 which also pivots at 133. The arm 135 is capable of being driven by a spring 136 compressed between fingers placed on the lever 132 and on the arm 135. The arm 135 carries a slot- ca-me 137 in which a roller 138 is introduced with an arm 139 fixed on the shaft 102.
On this same shaft 102 is fixed an arm 140 (FIG. 6) connected by a connecting rod 141 to a lever 112 pivoting on an axis 113. A slider 111 is articulated to the lever 112 and can slide on the axis 31 cited phis high..
The 1-1-1 slide carries two studs 115 between which passes a flange 1-16 with a neck 117 which can slide in a slot 118 made at the back of a cam 1-19 turn on the axis 31.
The movement in both directions of the totalizer lever 11 out of its addition position, through the cam slot 130, the lever 132, the arm 135 and the cam slot 137, tilt the arm 139 and , therefore, also slightly the shaft 102 in the dextrorsal direction as indicated in fig. 6 and 7.
As a result, the lever 112 is moved in the dextrorsunr direction to pull the slide 111 to the left and. moving the narrow part of the eouplerrr 117 in a slot 150 of the control gear 33 to connect the cam to this gear.
Slider 111 carries a roller 151 in engagement with a notch in cam 1-19 when totalizer lever 11 is in its normal addition position, but which is pushed into passage 152 of cam 119 when totalizer lever is moved. in either direction from its addition position.
Cam path 152 is calculated such that towards the end of the. first revolution of the shaft 30, the slide 111 slides further to the left as shown in FIG. 6 to thus give the lever 1-12 an additional movement in the dextror- srrm direction. This additional movement of the lever 1.12 has the effect, through the intermediary of the connecting rod 111 and the arm 110, of tilting the shaft 102 even further in the senestrorsum direction (fig. 3 and 1), which pushes the arm 101 (fig. 1)
previously described far enough to engage finger 106 on the path. of the end of the propellant pawl 96, so as to prevent movement of the shaft 91 during the first cycle or the first operation of the shaft 30 during a total or sub-total operation. Command (le bar 81 by the totalizer lever.
The only two occasions when the special counters 71 are needed to operate are during the recording of single item transactions, when the totalizer lever is in the add position, and during row reset. 1. which represents the total of a multi-item transaction. Therefore, when the totalizer lever is moved to one of the three positions above the addition position and.
also on the second and third positions below this addition position, it directly operates the mechanism intended to render inoperative. the operating bar mechanism which controls the special counter.
This mechanism (fig. 3, 4 and 5) is as follows: Attached to the side of the totalizer lever 41, there is a cam plate 160 which has a path, part of which 161 is concentric with the pivot point of the lever 41. In this part 161. engages a stud 162 carried by an arm 163 fixed to a shaft 164 which itself is supported by a portion of the frame.
The shaft 164 also carries an arm 165 provided with a pin 166 which engages in a cam slot 167 of an arm 168 fixed on a sleeve 169 capable of pivoting on the shaft 102. The chon sleeve 169 carries a another arm 170 provided with a stud 171 (fig. 3) engaging. in a cam slot 172 of the connecting rod 116 previously described.
When the totalizer lever is in the add position (fig. 4), the stud 162 remains in the concentric portion 161 of the slot in the plate 160. If moved to the total row 1 position which is the position on which he. is pushed polish extract I total of items from a multiple item transaction, plate 160 is. pushed down, but the stud 162 still remains in a concentric portion 161 of the slot, and therefore neither the arm 163 nor the arms 168 and 170 are. moved, so that the connecting rod 116 remains in the position indicated in FIG. 3, in which its lug 117 is engaged in the slot 11.8 of the arm 119 so that this arm and the arm 122 to which it.
is connected can tilt in the dextrorsum direction, in order to activate the operating bar 81. of the special counter.
However, when the totalizer lever is moved to the total row 2 or row 3 position, the plate 160 is moved down a distance such that part of the slot 173 tilts, via er got 162, arm 163, shaft 16-1 and arm 165 in the right-hand direction. This has the effect of actuating the arms 168 and 170 in the dextrorsum direction, after which the pin 171 rotates, through the slot 172, the lever 116 in the senestrorsuin direction (fig. 3) around the pivot of the arm 114, which releases the stud 117 from the slot 118 of the arm 119.
Therefore, the upward movement of the connecting rod 116 imparted by the cam 1.1.0 in the manner already described is an empty movement, since the slot 172 is of sufficient length for the travel. of this movement without moving the arm 170 or the arm 122. Consequently, there is no action on the operating bar of the special counter during these operations.
When the totalizer lever is. brought to the row 1 or row 2 or even row 3 subtotal position, 1a. plate 160 is moved up and part 174 of the slow cam of the. plate 160 drives the stud 162 and moves the arms 163 and 165 in the dextrorsum direction in the manner already described, after which the stud 166 actuates the arms 168 and 170 in the senestrorsuin direction to tilt the connecting rod 11.6 in the same direction, in order to disengage the lug 117 from the slot 118 of the arm 119.
Consequently, when the totalizer lever is brought to one of these three positions, above the addition position, the connection between the connecting rod 116 and the arm 119 is interrupted and the operating bar 81 does not operate when the connecting rod 116 moves upwards.
When the totalizer lever 41 is returned from one of the three positions above the addition position to the latter, and also from one of its three lower positions, all the parts are restored to their normal position. shown in fig. 3 and 4.
As explained above, it is necessary to disable the special counter associated with the seller's key which has been lowered, during the writing of each of the different individual records key to the multiple item transaction.
In this. Indeed, the cash register has the following mechanism: Referring to fig. 1, it will be remembered that each time the list key 43 is depressed to enter one of the different items of a multiple item operation, its lug. 55 drags the lever 57 in the dextrorsum direction and holds it in this position until the subtotal of the various items has been entered. This lever 57 comprises an arm 181 di erected towards the rear and which normally is in contact with a lug 182 of an arm 183 fixed on a hub 181 mounted idle on a shaft 185 itself supported by the side frames 28 and 29. from the cash register.
An arm 186, fixed to the hub 181, carries a plate 188 provided with a notch 189 and a ridge 190 which is concentric with the center of the rod 58 when the parts are in their normal position of FIG. 1. This rod 58 is in axial alignment with the axis 125 (fig. 7) on which the totalizer lever 41 is mounted. This lever carries a pin 191 (fig. 7) shown in three positions in phantom in fig. 1. These three positions correspond to the addition and the total row 1 and total row 2.
When the list key 13 is lowered, the lever 57 pivots in the dextr orsum direction, the arm 181 of said lever is automatically pushed downwards, on which a spring 187 drives the arms 186 and 183 in the opposite direction, which forces the stud 152 to follow the arm 181. At the same time, the notch 1.89 engages the lug 191 of the totalizer lever, which is in its addition position during the registration of units of a multiple item transaction .
As a result, the upper end 192 of the arm 183 is brought into the position shown in phantom in fig. 1 and which is on the path of an arm 193 integral with the arm 63 which is connected to the differential arm 60 corresponding to the row of seller's keys.
As a result, when the cash register is operating, the arm 193 contacts the end 192 of the arm 183, which, by stopping the arm 63 at the zero position, stops the arm. differential 60 and the corresponding selector arm 80 (flg. 3) in this position so that the vendor's special counter is not selected during the entry of individual sums of a multi-item transaction.
Thus, even if the counter operating mechanism operates during the registration of the various items of a multiple item transaction, the seller's counter, although its 1: 5 key has been depressed, is not operated since has not been selected.
The condition is the same when the totalizer lever is moved to. Row 1 read position which represents the position in which the subtotal of the various amounts of a multiple item transaction is entered, as previously described.
Notch 189 is enough. wide to receive the lug 191 when the lever 41 has been moved to the row 1 read position (fig. 1) and, therefore, the end 192 of the arm 183 is brought into the path of the arm 193, to disengage the differential arm 60 in the zero position, so that in the subtotal key operation, the vendor's special counter is not selected.
However, when the total of the various sums from operation to operation. multiple items is registered, the totalizer lever 41 is brought to its total position row 1 and the lug. 191 (fig. 1) is. brought to the corresponding position. Plate 188 is then moved until lug 191 comes in contact with edge 190 of \ plate 188 and, therefore, end 192 of arm 186 is removed from the route. of the arm 193 forming part of the differential 63.
Therefore, while writing the total of the different amounts of a multiple item transaction, the differential arm 60 is moved up to. what he meets the touch of seller who has. been lowered. The corresponding special counter is therefore selected during. the first cycle of this operation and a unit added to this selected counter during the second cycle of this totalization operation.
Reminder iito> iiafiqtte die lever totalisatctir. After extracting the total of the sums of a multiple item transaction, plus the corresponding tax amount, the totalizer lever 11 is automatically recalled from the total row position 1 to 1a. addition position, thanks to. a mechanism illustrated in lile. 6 a 10.
The totalizer lever -11 is provided with an ear 201 which can. be brought up (row. 7), on the path of one of the two rollers 202. when the totalizer lever is brought to its first position below its addition position. The rollers 202 are mounted in an annular groove 203 (row. 10) of a collar 201, which receives a rotational movement during total operations, such that one of the rollers 202 engages the lug 201 to bring back the totalizer lever 11 from its total position to its addition position.
The collar 201 shows a rotational movement of a mechanism actuated by the arm 38 (file. 6) previously described, which carries a roller 37 held in contact, by a force, spring 40, with the cam 36 of the main shaft 30. t1 behind the arm 38 is a pin 205 which can cooperate with a hook 206 directed towards the rear and which pivots on an arm 207 fixed to a short shaft 208. The latter also carries a segment 209 ( file. 7 and 8) which is engaged with a toothed sector 210 mounted idle on a shaft also carried by the collar 201.
During. the last phase of the first cycle of the total operation, the hook 206 is tilted to the left in the path of the stud 205. A guide 212 is fixed on the arm 38 and at the same time supports the stud 205. The guide 212 and the rear end of the arm 38 are used for. guide the hook 206 in the desired position so that it comes to act on the pin 205. When the arm 38 is lowered by the cam 36 during the last phase of operation, the pin 205 is also lowered and, due to of its link with segment 209, it does. rotate this in the senestror- sum direction, which turns sector 210 in the dextrorsnm direction (files 7 and 8).
During. This last movement of the sector 210, the collar 201 is prevented from rotating by a flanged lock 226, which engages a shoulder 227 (thread. 10) provided on one of the flanges of the collar 201. This lock 226 pivots on a rod 222 and is maintained in contact with the shoulder 227 by a spring 228. The toothed sec tor 210 can rotate independently of the collar 201, thanks to. a clutch (file. 10) which carries a profile 215 on each of its forks. When sector 210 rotates, the cam profiles 215 move it to the left (file. 10) by neutralizing the tension of a spring - 216 up to. whatever the sector is. released from clamp 201.
The downward movement of hook 206 communicates a counterclockwise half-revolution to the sector. At the end of this half-revolution, the spring 216 pushes the sector 210 to the right (file. 10) to re-engage the forks of the clutch with the grooves of the collar 201. The lowering of the hook 206 has also for the effect of tensioning a strong spring 217 (thread. 6) attached to the upper end of the arm 207. The spring 217 normally maintains the arm 207 against a resilient stop 218 supported by a block 219 itself held by the side frame 28 from the cash register.
As soon as the cash register stops and the totalizer lever 11 can return to its position as will be described later, the spring 217 turns the segment 209 in the dextrorsum direction, which prints a movement contrary to the sector 210 and to the collar 204. During this senestrous movement of the collar 204, one of the rollers 202 engages the lug 201 of the totalizer lever 41 and returns the latter from its total position to its position addition.
Before the collar 204 can rotate in the senestorsum direction, it is necessary to release a lock 213 of a wall 214 from a notch cut in the flange of the collar 204. This lock 213 pivots on the rod 222. The segment 209 carries a stud 220 (fig. 8), which towards the end of the senestrorsum movement of the segment. 209, engages an arm 221 of latch 213, which then rotates against the tension of a spring 223.
The arm 221 of the latch 213 has a surface large enough to keep the latch 213 clear of the wall 214 of the notch until the periphery of the flange of the collar 204 has passed the nose of the latch 213. As soon as the collar 204 has completed its half-revolution, the lock 213 engages with a shoulder 225 which is it. diametrically opposed. This shoulder belongs to a notch in the flange of the collar 204. The movement is controlled by the res out 223 and prevents said collar 204 from following its revolution.
During the first cycle of a total operation, the hook 206 is held in a position for which it cannot come into contact with the stud 205, and this, thanks to a connecting rod 230 sliding on the studs 231 and 232. The stud 231 is mounted on one of the frames of the cash register and stud 232 is fixed to the lever 142 already described. The right end of the connecting rod 230 is for view of a slot 233, the upper part of which engages a lug 234 attached to the hook, 206. When the totalizer lever 41 is moved to any of its total positions, the hook . 206 sees a slight movement towards the head, but this movement is not sufficient for it to come into engagement with the stud 205.
This priming movement is transmitted to the hook 206, during the movement, by hand of the totalizer lever 41, to the body by a mechanism shown in FIG. 7 and already described. This mechanism rotates the shaft 102 and the arm 140 in the dextrorsum direction and the lever 1.12 in the same direction. The connecting rod 230 is provided with a slot 235 of which. the upper part is normally engaged with the stud 232 under the action of a spring 236 stretched between the stud 23? and a stud 237 of the connecting rod 230.
We have already seen that the disengaging movement of the totalizer lever 41 to leave the addition position switches the lever 112 in the dextror: sum direction, which with the help of the spring 236 does. advance the connecting rod 230 to the left (fig. 6).
Towards the end of the first operating cycle, the connecting rod 230 sees an additional movement to the left, which it is. communicated by cam 1-19, which does. tilt the lever 142 in the manner previously explained.
The cam profile 152 which operates the slider 144 to swing the lever 7.42 is. calculated in such a way that towards the end of the first revolution of the camshaft 30, the slider 144 slides even further to the left (fig. 6) and, therefore, gives the lever 142 a movement. additional in the dextrorsum direction.
Immediately before the cam passage 152 moves the slider 144 to the left, the cam 36 moves the arm 38 to its. lowest position, after which the cam passage 152 switches the lever 142 in the dextrorsum direction, sufficiently. so that the connecting rod 230 is moved to the left to pass the hook 206 on the path of the stud 205, but above the latter.
At the end of the first revolution of the shaft 30, the spring 40 lifts the arm 38 and the stud 205 pushes the hook 206 and the connecting rod 230 to the right, against the action of the spring 236. Once the stud 205 a. past the hook, the spring 236 moves the connecting rod 230 and. the hook. 206 to the left, which brings up the hook. under the stud 205.
Around the. At the end of the second revolution of the shaft 30, the arm 38 is again lowered, which also lowers the hook 206 to turn the toothed sector 210 in the dextrorsuin direction. Quite at the end of the second cycle, the spring 40 lifts the shaft 38, which causes the stud 205 upwards and away from the hook 206.
The totalizer lever 41 can return to its addition position only when the cash register has returned to its home position. As a result, the hook 206 cannot follow the arm 38 to its normal position when this arm is lifted by the spring 40 towards the end of the second cycle of operation of the cash register. However, the hook 206 can follow a small distance until the roller 202 engages the lug 201 of the totalizer lever 41, after which it can no longer move because of. at this time, the totalizer lever 41. is immobilized.
When the cam 1-19 comes to its home position and the roller 151 is in place to re-engage the notch of the cam 149 (Fig. 6), the slider 144 is. free to advance to the right, which allows lever 1-12 to turn in the senestrorsum direction. This allows the spring 217 to complete the revolution of the collar 20-1, which returns the totalizer lever 41 to its addition position via the roller 202. However, this movement can only take place when the The shaft 102 can be driven by the cam track 1.30 of the totalizer lever 41.
Thus, when the ga let 151 passes through the notch of the cam 149, the shaft 102 becomes free and, therefore, the cam path 130 can tilt the shaft 102, which allows the totalizer lever 41 to return to position. its addition position.
The movement of the lever 142, when the totalizer lever 41 has returned to its normal position, has the effect of moving the connecting rod 230 to the right, and for this the lower portion of the slot 233 is widened at 238, so that, although the connecting rod 230 has advanced to the right from the position shown, the stud 23-1 is pushed by the cam into the small upper part of the notch 233 via the spring 217.
From the above, it can be seen that after the operation of totaling the various amounts of a multiple item transaction, plus the amount of tax on said items, the totalizing lever is automatically set back to. its normal position.
To avoid the operator having to return the totalizer lever by hand from the row 1 read position, once the subtotal of the various sums of a multiple item transaction has been retrieved, provision is made a mechanism intended to automatically recall the totalizer lever from this reading or subtotal position to its addition position.
For this purpose, the mechanism employed is used to automatically return the totalizer lever from the total position to its addition position, but in combination with a new mechanism which is as follows: Mounted on shaft 208 (fig. 8) There is an arm 241 connected by a yoke 242 to another arm 243 mounted on the shaft 208. The arm 243 has a notch to receive a frame 244 of the cash register to support the arm 243, the yoke 242 and the arm 241 in a rigid position on the shaft 208.
A pin 245 of the arm 241 forms a pivot for a lever 246 which carries a lug. 247 operating with the lower part of the lug 201 provided at the rear of the totalizer lever 41. A finger 248 integral with the lever 246 is bent on the path of the rollers 202 which are housed between the flanges of the collar 204. A res comes out 249 normally keeps finger 248 in contact with roller 202 (fig. 8). Lever 2-16 is provided with a slot 250 which is concentric with the center of pin 2-15 . A pin 251 chi arm 241 is introduced clans this slot 250. The bottom of this slot serves as a stop.
for the lever 246 to oppose the action of its spring 249, so that it remains in the normal position shown in fig. 8, and that it does not bear against the roller 202.
In explaining how the totalizer lever 41 is returned to its normal position from the first position below the addition, it has already been described how one of the rollers 202 returns the lever 41 to its addition position by engaging it. the upper side of the ear 201.
During a subtotal operation, segment 209 operates pinion 21.0 in exactly the same way as in the previous case. Therefore, collar 204 and rollers 202 operate identically, at exactly the same time, during subtotal operations, when totalizer lever 41 is moved to the first row 1 read position.
It follows that, during the last half of the second cycle of the subtotal operation, practically towards the very end of this second cycle, the collar 204 starts to rotate in the senestrorsum direction, thanks to the spring 217 (fig. 6), as described above.
At this moment, one of the rollers 202, by entering into engagement with the finger 248 of the lever 246, swings this lever against the tension of the res outgoing 249 in the dextrorsum direction (fig. 8) over a sufficient distance so that the pin 247 comes into contact with the underside of the lug 201 of the totalizer lever 41 and swings the lever in the senestorsiun direction to bring it back to its normal position, that is to say from the reading position row 1 to the position d 'addition, but after the subtotal operation has been completed.
Therefore, the totalizer lever 41 is not only automatically returned from the total 1 position to its normal addition position, but it is. also automatically returned to this normal position from the row 1 play position.
