Man rührt.
Process for the preparation of an azo dye. 11; It has been found that a valuable azo dye is obtained if the dianotized leucosulfuric acid ester of the compound of the formula
EMI0001.0005
combined with 1- (2'-oxy-3'-naphthoylamino) -2-metlioxy-benzene.
The new dye forms a dark powder that dissolves in water with a violet color and, when printed on cotton and developed with sodium nitrite and dilute sulfuric acid, results in rich bordeaux shades of excellent moisture and chlorine fastness and very good light fastness.
The dianotation of the leucosulfuric acid ester takes place. expediently in the presence of such an organic carboxylic acid which is capable of liberating nitrous acid from alkali metal nitrite. The sparingly soluble di-a7o compound obtainable in this way is advantageously separated off from the di-a7ation mixture by filtration.
The coupling is advantageously carried out in an alkaline, for example alkali carbonate to alkali hydroxide alkaline medium, if desired in the presence of coupling-promoting agents such as alcohol or pyridine.
Example: 57.8 parts of the disodium salt of the leuco-sulfuric acid ester of anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid (3'-methoxy-4'-aminophenylamide), (obtainable by condensation of anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride with 1-formyl- amino-2-methoxy-4-aminobenzene, esterification of the condensation product obtained in pyridine with -chlorosulfonic acid in the presence.
of iron and alkaline saponification of the formylamino group) are dissolved in 300 parts of water, 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite are added and the mixture is cooled to 0 with ice. 20 parts of 85% formic acid are added all at once and the mixture is stirred at 0 to 5 for 1 hour, the diazo compound separating out as a sparingly soluble brown precipitate.
The diazo compound is filtered off and combined, with stirring and cooling at 5 to 8 with a solution consisting of 29.3 parts of 1- (2'-oxy-3'-naphthoylamino) -2-methoxybenzene ,, 15 parts 30 o / o sodium hydroxide solution and 25 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate and 300; Parts of water was obtained. The diazo compound goes into solution with the formation of a purple dye.
One stirs. 6 hours at 5 to 8, the dye formed largely separating out in crystalline form. Then it is slowly warmed to 40 to 50, the deposited dye going into solution, 60% sodium chloride is added and the mixture is stirred until the dye is completely separated. It is filtered off, washed with 10% sodium chloride solution and dried in vacuo at 50 to 60.
