Saw sharpening machine. The present invention a. for object a machine for sharpening the saws, comprising a grinding wheel driven by a motor and intended to successively sharpen each tooth of the saw.
This machine is characterized by an oscillating lever controlled by said. motor, one arm of which actuates a slide carrying the grinding wheel, so as to intermittently bring this grinding wheel into contact with the. saw, the second arm actuating a ratchet intended to cooperate with the teeth of the saw, slidably mounted in the machine, so as to advance the latter intermittently, all so that the teeth of the saw are successively sharpened by the grinding wheel.
The accompanying drawing represents, to. by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the saw sharpening machine, and FIG. 2 is a key elevation view 1a. rear face of this machine.
The machine shown comprises a frame 1 on which is articulated at 2 an oscillating lever 3 with two arms designated by 3a and 3 ". The frame 1 carries a slide 4 on which moves a slide 5 forming a bearing for a shaft 6 carrying a grinding wheel 7 and a louse 8.
The slide 4 is fixed to the frame 1. by a journal 9 and two wing screws 10 passing through circular arc slots 11 protruding in the slide. This arrangement makes it possible to move the slide 4 angularly around the journal 9, according to the inclination of the teeth of the. saw to, sharpen. The latter, designated by 12, is fixed on a rail 13 by means of dogs not shown.
This rail <B> 13 </B> is fixed to a slide 14 moving along a slide 15 parallel to a column, not shown, supporting the machine. This column can be mounted on a cast iron base or on a concrete base,
The slide 14 can be blocked on the slide 15 by means of a lever 16 having an eccentric part 16a intended to press on a part 17 against the slide. [? n operating lever 1.8 is articulated at 19 on the slide 14.
A rod 20 is articulated, on the one hand, at 21 on the lever 18, on the other hand, at 22 on a slide 23 also moving on the slide 15. The slide 23 can be moved. be blocked by a lever 24 operating in a similar fashion to lever 16.
This arrangement makes it possible to move the rail 13 in height in two ways: On the one hand, by releasing the two levers 16 and 24 and by gripping the rail 13 directly by hand, on the other hand, for fine adjustment, by blocking the lever 24 only and by actuating the operating lever 18, which produces a displacement of the slide 14. A stop 25, movable transversely, serves as a support for the saw 12.
Its position is adjustable by means of a screw 26 cooperating with an inclined plane of this stop, depending on the thickness of the saw.
A flange 27 is fixed on the arm 3a of the lever 3. A rod 28 can slide in this flange. This link is articulated by one of its ends at 29 on the slide 5, while it carries at its other end a screw 30 forming a stop and intended to cooperate with the arm 3a. The flange 27 is moved wheat along a groove 31 made in the arm 311, which allows. to vary the amplitude of the oscillations of the grinding wheel.
A stop 32, adjustable by means of a screw 33, determines the lower position of the slide 5. The lever 3 is actuated by an eccentric 34 cooperating with the arm 36 and is controlled by a motor 35 by means of a screw without end 36 mounted at one end of the motor shaft designated by 37. The second end of this shaft carries a pulley 38 driven by a belt 39 the pulley 8 of the grinding wheel 7. The lever 3 is held in touch.
with the eccentric 34, thanks to a counterweight 40 carried by the arm 3b. This counterweight could be replaced by a spring. A support 41 is articulated at 42 on the arm 3b. On this support is articulated at 43 a pawl 44 intended to produce the advance of the saw. The position of the support 41 relative to the arm 3b is adjustable by means of a screw 45.
The pawl 44 is connected to an arm 46 carried by the connecting rod 28 by a rod 47 whose. lon gueur aet-ive is adjustable by means of a movable stop 48. This arrangement has the effect that @le pawl oscillates around its axis 43 during the oscillations of the arm 31, and does not co-operate with the teeth of the saw throughout the period of this oscillation, but only during part of it, modi reliably by moving the stop 48, which allows to adjust the advance of the. saw.
We could see a ratchet with two teeth, spaced from each other by an adjustable length according to the spacing of the teeth of the saw to be sharpened so that these two teeth cooperate simultaneously with the teeth of the saw and that]. its advance is not influenced by any irregularity which it might present. A lever 49, articulated at 50 on the frame 1, is used to bring the grinding wheel 7 and the pawl 44 into a resting position to allow a saw to be removed or placed.
The operation of this machine is as follows. The lever 49 is actuated so as to bring the grinding wheel 7 and the pawl 44 into the rest position. A saw 12 is fixed on the rail 13, in contact. with the stop 25 adjusted so that the vertical lowered by the axis of the grinding wheel falls in the middle of the thickness of the saw. Lever 49 is. then moved so as to free the pawl and the grinding wheel.
The various adjustments are then carried out by actuating the eccentric 34 by hand, by means of a crank 51 which this presents. eccentric. The motor 35 is then started. This motor drives the grinding wheel and produces the oscillating movement of the lever 3. The arm 3b actuates the pawl which cooperates with the saw to cause an intermittent advance of the latter.
The grindstone is moved back and forth; it comes in contact intermittently with the eia. The sharpening of each tooth successively is carried out by the combination of these movements. It should be noted that the rise of the grinding wheel is caused by the lever <B> 3 "</B> cooperating with the stop screw 30, while the descent of the grinding wheel is due to its weight only.
The rod 28 being able to slide in the flange 27, it is possible to carry out an adjustment in which the slide 5 rests, immobile, on the stop 32 while the vier 3 performs part of its oscillation and causes the advance of the saw. . This adjustment will sharpen saws whose teeth are spaced apart from each other, unlike the teeth of the saw 1.2 shown,
which follow each other without a break in continuity.
The machine can also be used for sharpening circular saws. It will suffice to attach to the slide 14 a part having a journal on which the circular saw to be sharpened will be mounted.
