Caisse enregistreuse.

Cash register. The present invention relates to cash register soot.
It is known to compose the totalizers of cash registers from a series of disks mounted on a control shaft. The cash register which is the subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that it comprises a rotary control shaft and several totalisers each composed of discs mounted freely side by side on the control shaft,
a device for selecting at will one of said totalizers with a view to its actuation and operating mechanisms each of which corresponds to a different numerical order and which are arranged so that, when an oscillation of d 'invariable amplitude, independent of the number to be recorded, said mechanisms bring the totalizer disks of the selected totalizer into the respective positions corresponding to the recording to be made and cause the closed totalizer disks to stop in said positions.
In a particular embodiment of the cash register which is the subject of the invention, the operating mechanisms comprise, arranged between the control shaft and the totalizer disks threaded onto this shaft, coupling devices each presenting a driver for each totalizer, the drivers of the same coupling device being intended to cooperate with the disks corresponding to the same numerical order in the totalizers, so that, when one of the totalizers is selected,
the drivers corresponding to the various numerical orders of said totalizer are capable of engaging in notches provided inside the corresponding disks of said totalizer for the purpose of driving these disks. The drivers can be mounted on oscillating supports and their shape, as well as that of the notches, is preferably such that, the discs being stationary, the drivers can be engaged or disengaged from the notches by the simultaneous effect of an oscillation. their support and a rotation of the control shaft. In this case, each coupling device can be immobilized by a brake, which is set so as to give way when said device is actuated.
In said embodiment, said coupling devices require only small movements of the parts to be engaged and they do not. only the advantage of high operating safety, but also that of allowing the discs to be controlled in a high number of totalizers.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the cash register which is the subject of the invention.

Fig. 15 is a cross section taken on line 15-15 of FIG. 1, showing the control lever of the cash register shown in fig. 1.
The cash register shown in the drawing (fig. 1) has the shape of an extended cash register resting on a plate 101 on which stand, inside, transverse partitions 102, 103 and 104 (fig. 2 ) which serve as supports for the internal parts of the body, protected by a cover plate 1.05.
On its front face, near the end on the right, the cash register has a keypad 215 for setting the amount to be recorded. The keypad is flanked, to its left, by a selection lever 290 surmounted by a handle 290 'and serving to select which of the individual totalizers is to be. participate in the current operation. Individual totalizers are those which each relate to the activity of a person, for example the same salesman in a store, the same waiter in a restaurant, ete. In the example shown, there are four of them, designated by A, B, D and E (fig. 2).
In addition, the cash register can include a ticket totalizer E, a day totalizer J and a general totalizer G; the amounts totaled by each of the totalizers are directly readable in windows 106 aligned to the left of the keypad and normally covered with a lockable shutter, omitted in FIG. 1.
To the right of the keypad is a control lever 310 surmounted by a handle 310 'and intended to be placed in one of its positions which correspond to the nature of the operation to be performed.
The totalizers are all mounted in the upper part of the cash register, between the transverse partitions 103 and 104 (fig. 2); they are all of identical construction except as regards the number of discs, so that only one will be described, for example the individual totalizer D.
Each totalizer is made up of a certain number of annular discs 110 comprised between two flanges 111, 111 'and each corresponding to a numerical order, each disc has ten teeth on the outer periphery. In the totalizer D, the disks 110 are six in number, which makes it possible to totalize amounts up to the total of 9999.99. The discs are juxtaposed and threaded on a control shaft 100 common to all the totalizers.
The discs 110 surround the shaft 100 with play and they are each externally supported by three rollers 113, 113 'and 114 which engage in a peripheral groove of the disc 110, and are themselves respectively mounted on shafts 115, 115 'and 116, parallel to the shaft 100 and carried by the flanges 111 and 111' of the totalizer. These flanges are threaded, at their lower part, on a guide 117 fixed between the partitions 103 and 104, parallel to the shaft 100. At their top, the flanges 111 and 111 'end in forks which receive a shaft in their hollow. fixed 118 supported by means of sleeves 17.9.
These serve to hold in place, on the shaft 118, packages of toothed wheels 120 similar in diameter and number (the teeth, to the discs 110. Each toothed wheel 120 meshes with a totalizer disc 110, the number of wheels 120 in each pack being equal to the number of discs 110 of the corresponding totalizer. The peripheral surfaces of each of the ten teeth of each wheel 120 bear the numbers from 1 to 0, visible through the window 106 of the envelope 105 of the machine and used to read the amount totaled by the totalizer in question.
The totalizing discs 110 are formed as follows: At its inner periphery (FIG. 4), each disc has a chin 110 'in which are. cut out a certain number of notches 121, for example ten in the case shown, with which can cooperate drives 122 carried by the shaft 100. There is a driver 122 for each of the totalizing discs intended to be actuated directly; only the disks of the higher digital orders of the general totalizers G and J are actuated only by transfer and do not have a driver in front of them.
All the drives 122 corresponding to the disks 110 of the same numerical order in the various totalizers are wedged on a bar 123 housed in a longitudinal groove 124 of the shaft 100 (FIG. 4). There are therefore, in the shaft 100, at least as many grooves 124 with bars 123 carrying coaches 122 as there are disks 110 actuated directly in any one of the totalizers. The bars 123 are distributed around the shaft 100 with the same angular spacing as the notches 121 inside the discs 110.
Each bar 123 constitutes, with all the coaches it carries, a coupling device for controlling the totalizing discs; for the recording of an amount on one or more totalizers, it is necessary to bring the coaches 122 into engagement with the notches 121 of the discs 110 which are to participate in the operation, and to rotate each disc , in the desired direction, as many tenths of a turn as there are units.
As shown in fig. 3, the width of each driver 122 is less than the thickness of a totalizer disc 110. On the other hand, the chin 110 'in which the notches 121 are formed also occupies only a part of the thickness of each disc, while beside this part the internal diameter of the disc is large enough to form an annular hollow in which the driver can rotate freely. When the cash register is idle, none. of the drivers 122 is not engaged with the corresponding disc 110, all of the drivers 122 being in the annular recesses of the discs.
Each totalizer intended to participate in a recording operation must therefore be moved, with its flanges 111 and 111 ', along the guide 117, from left to right in FIG. 2, from a distance such that the notches 121 engage with the coaches 122.
The selection of an individual totalizer is prepared, at the start of the recording operation, by means of the lever 290 (fig. 14), the handle of which 290 'is located on the outside of the cash register. left of the keypad (fig. 1). This lever which turns around a central shaft 300 of the registering body (fig. 14) can occupy several positions, depending on the totalizer to be selected, and these positions are indicated by a solid arrow of the handle 290 'at look at the corresponding indications written on the envelope 105 of the cash register.
The lever 290 drives, in its angular movements, a toothed sector 282 which meshes with a pinion 149 wedged at the right end of a selection shaft 125 (fig. 6 and 14). This shaft rotates freely in the partitions 103 and 104 and carries, for each of the totalizers, fork soot 181 intended to grip between its claws a tooth 127 of the flange 111 'of each totalizer i (fig. 4 and 8). The claws of the various forks 181 are angülairement offset, from one fork to another, by an angle corresponding to that described by the lever 290 when passing from one position to the next.
It will therefore be understood that, depending on the position of the lever 290, one or the other fork 181 is made to grip the tooth 127 of the flange of the corresponding totalizer and that it is then sufficient to move the shaft 125 from left to right. by a suitable distance, for example by means of a cam, so that the disks 110 of the selected totalizer are brought into engagement with the drivers 122, which will allow the latter to actuate the totalizer disks.
> When any totalizer is selected, that is to say when the notches 121 of its discs 110 are brought into engagement with the coaches 122, these are used to rotate each of the discs by as many o tenths of a revolution that this disc must record in units. The rotation of the discs is done, for an addition, in the direction indicated by the arrow on the fia. 12, and in the reverse direction for a subtraction, that is to say for the resetting of the totalizer.
As already said, there is, in each totalizer, a driver 122 for each disc 110; the coaches which belong in the various totalisers in the same numerical order are grouped on the same bar 123, and all the bars 123 participate in the rotation of the shaft 100 which makes one complete revolution for each operation of the cash register. The bars 123, with the coaches they carry, constitute couplings between the shaft 100 and the discs 110. The movement of the shaft 100 is derived from one. motor shaft whose movement is transmitted to a shaft 200, located at the bottom and at the rear of the cash register, between partitions 103 and 102 (fia. 9 and 10).
A pair of cams 187, 188 attached near the right end. of the shaft 200 control a double lever 189 which carries two rollers 190 and 191. cooperating respectively with the cams 187 and 188. The lever 189 can pivot on an axis 192 and is articulated at the top, in 193, to a connecting rod 194 in the form of a fork. The pivot l.93 is guided in the rectilinear slot 195 of a fixed support 196. The upper arms of the fork 194 form slats facing outwards and furnished, laterally, each with a small go det 197, 197 ' , respectively. By its two jaws, the fork 194 can be hooked to one or the other of two lugs 198 and. 199 fixed on the side of a toothed sector 201 which can turn on the central shaft 300.
The toothed sector 201 meshes with a pin 202 wedged on the control shaft 100, near its right end (fia. 2). At rest, the pinion 202 is located substantially in the middle of the toothed sector 201 which can therefore rotate the pinion in one or the other direction. The profiles of the cams 187 and 188 are such that, during the rotation of the shaft 200, the lever 194 hooked to the lug 198 does. turn the shaft 100 first one turn clockwise and then, after a moment of rest, one turn counterclockwise. If, on the other hand, the lever 194 attacks the toothed sector 201 via the lower lug 199, the shaft 100 performs the same movements in reverse order.
To prevent the fork 194 from unhooking during travel, a gear 203 is pivotally mounted on the shaft 300. The radius of the circular portion of the segment. 203 is such that this part comes to support one or the other bucket 197 or 197 'of the fork 194 when the latter is. attached to one or the other of the lugs 198, 199. In addition, the fork 194 is supported by one or the other of two tenons 204, 204 'fixed on the segment 203; depending on whether the fork is hooked to the lug 198 or to the lug 199, the tenons 204 'or 204 come to rest respectively from below or from above on a small plate 205 fixed to the fork 194.
To reverse the initial direction of rotation of the shaft 100, it is therefore sufficient to rotate the segment 203 downward (fig. 9) until the tenon 204 abuts against the plate 205 and pushes it down, with the fork 194 which then unhooks from the lug 198 and hooks up to the lug 199. In. This movement, the fork is guided by the elongated lips 206 and 206 ′ of the nose pieces of the fork which further serve to limit the travel of the toothed sector 201.
The segment 203 is controlled, with a view to changing the initial direction of rotation of the shaft 100, by the handle 310 ′ of the control lever 310. This lever (FIG. 15) has a profiled slot 357 in which a roller can slide. 358 carried by one of the arms of an angled lever 359 (fig. 9 and 15), pivoting on a fixed end of axis 458. The other arm of the lever 359 ends in a fork to grip a button 207 fixed on the segment 203.
The profile of the groove 357 is such that when the lever 310 is in the second or third position from below, the roller 358 is engaged in the lower part of the groove 357 (fig. 15) and the fork 194 is hooked to the lug 198 of the toothed sector 201 (fig. 9), so that the rotation of the shaft 1.00 begins in the direction of clockwise, which corresponds to an operation addition.
If the lever 310 is brought into one of its three other positions, the roller 358 sliding in the groove 357 rotates the lever 359, the segment 203 and the fork 194, so as to bring the latter into engagement with the lug 199 of the toothed sector 201 and to reverse the initial direction of rotation of the shaft 100, as required by the operations prepared by the movement of the control lever.
When a cash register operation, for example a simple addition to an individual totalizer, has been prepared by the described maneuvers of levers 290 and 310, it is a matter of rotating each disc of the selected totalizer by as many tenths ( the revolution that the disc must register in units. As already said, the shaft 100 which carries the coupling bars 123 on which the coaches 122 are threaded makes, during the operation, a complete revolution in the desired direction , then, after a short stop, returns to its starting position.
The coaches are normally in the active position with their points directed radially with respect to the shaft 100 and engaged in the notches 121 of the discs of the selected totalizer (s).
A star-shaped braking device 131 (fig. 5), intended to prevent inadvertent pivoting of the coaches 122, is wedged on the shaft 100, near the right-hand end of the latter (fig. 2). The hub of the star receives the ends of all the bars 123 which carry the coaches 122. Next to the star 131 is wedged, on each bar, a small lever 132 whose free end carries a roller 133 taken between the two jaws of a clamp 134,134 '.
Each of these clamps has its pivot 135 fixed near the periphery of the star 131, and its two arms are connected to each other by a spring 136: There is therefore a clamp 134, 134 'per driver 122 of each totalizer, and for convenience, two neighboring clamps are mounted alternately to the right and left of star 131. For greater clarity, FIGS. 2 and 5 show only two clamps.
When, at the start of the operation of the body, the shaft 100 is set in rotation, the star 131 and all the parts that it carries participate in this movement. The same movement also involves toothed wheels 137 wedged on shaft 100 (FIG. 2) between the totalisers and star 131 as well as coaches 138 similar to coaches 122, but a little wider, wedged on bars 123; there is a driver 138 in front of each sprocket 137, and its tip is engaged in an interior groove 139 of the wheel 137. The number of sprockets 137 is equal to that of the numbered orders ques in the highest figure on which a cash transaction can relate, ie seven in the example shown.
Each toothed wheel 137 is engaged with a toothed sector 240 (FIG. 11) which rotates on the central shaft 300, and the amplitude of rotation of which is regulated by the depression of one of the keys 215. Thus, when one must register an amount comprising, for example, ten and five units, the 1 tens key stops the corresponding segment 240 after a determined rotation, while the analog segment 240 cooperating with the units keys is stopped, after a rotation five times greater, by key 5 of the units. With the tens segment 240, the corresponding toothed wheel 137 is also stopped, after a rotation of one tenth of a turn.
From this moment, its driver 138 fixed on a bar 123 cannot therefore continue its rotation with the bar 123 and the shaft 100, while remaining in the active position, with its point directed radially by relative to the shaft 100. As the shaft 100 advances in its rotation, the driver 138 therefore pivots with the bar 123 to disengage itself from the groove of the toothed wheel 137, until it reaches a lying position. similar to that in which FIG. 13 shows a trainer 122.
During this pivoting of the bar 123, all the coaches 122 wedged on the same bar, that is to say belonging to the numerical order of tens in the various totalizers, are. also lying down, so that those which were engaged in notches 121 of the disks 110 disengage from them after having driven the disks 110 of the tens of all the selected totalizers, by a tenth of a turn, in accordance with the number 1 to be recorded. This uncoupling process is repeated for the disks of each numerical order, when these disks have made as many tenths of a revolution as they have to register.
While a bar 123 pivots, allowing the coaches 122 and 138 that it carries to disengage from the notches 121 and 139 in which they were engaged, the lever 1.32 (fig. 5) that this bar carries pivots in the same way. way that the coaches, and its roller 133 moves one of the jaws 134, 134 'against the action of the spring 136, while the other is held in place by a stop 141 which rests against the neighboring branch of the star 131. The springs 136 thus serve to oppose any untimely pivoting of the bars 123 with the coaches 19-2 and 138, because, as long as they are not tilted by the when a key is pressed, they cannot produce the extension of the spring 136.
The profile of the notches 121 (fig. 4 and 12) is such that, during the pivoting of the coaches 122, their point forces the disks 110 which they have just driven to remain stationary, which prevents the rotation of these disks. , by inertia, beyond the desired position. In addition, the correct alignment of the totalizer discs 110, i.e. the stopping of the discs in the correct position which they are to occupy, a position in which all the protrusions are in longitudinal alignment, is ensured by pawls 142 which are mounted on the shaft 1161, one per disc 110, and are resiliently inserted under the action of springs 143 between the teeth of the discs.
