Additional patent to main patent no. 245989. Process for the production of an azo carbate. It has been found that a valuable azo dye can be produced by adding 1 mole of 2,2'-dinaphthylamine-5,5'-dioxy-7,7'-diulfonic acid. on the one hand with 1 mol of diazotized 4-amino-4'-oxy-1,1'-azobenzene-3,
3'-diacid and on the other hand with 1 mol of diazotized 4-chloro-5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene.
When dry, the new dye is a dark, bronzing powder that turns violet in water, in conc. Sulfuric acid with a blue color dissolves and dyes cotton in light- and washfast blue tones using the one or two-bath copper plating process.
The dia.zotierung of 4-amino-4'-oxy-1,1'-azobenzene-3,3'-diacid can advantageously be carried out indirectly, for example by adding a neutral or alkali solution of the starting material with nitrite. added and poured into a cooled acid solution.
The couplings can be made in any order. It is advisable to carry out both couplings in an alkaline medium. Here you can proceed, for example, that the first coupling in alkali carbonate & lkali- -heni Mediam and the second coupling in > - el more alkaline, z.
B. alkaline carbonate alkaline medium and, if desired, with the addition of a little pyridine.
Example: 11an dissolves 30.1 parts of 4-amino-4'-oxy-1,1'-azobenzene - $, 3'-dicarboxylic acid with 27 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution in 200 parts of water and adds 7 parts of sodium nitrite. This solution is poured into a mixture of 200 parts of ice and 50 parts of 80% hydrochloric acid. The diazo slurry is then poured into a solution of 36 parts of 2,2'-dinaphthylamine-5,5'-dioxy-7,7'-disulfonic acid, which contains an excess of sodium bicarbonate.
When no more diazo compound can be detected. the resulting dye is filtered off, dissolved in water and, after addition of sodium carbonate and a little pyridine, combined with the diazo compound obtained from 18.8 parts of 4-chloro-5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene. After coupling has ended, the dye is filtered off and dried.
