Process for the production of a tanning condensation product. The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a tanning condensation product. The process is characterized in that diphenylsulfonic acid (4), 4,4'-dioxy-diphenylsulfone and formaldehyde are condensed with one another. The new tanning agent obtained provides very full,
soft, white and light real leather.
Example 1 100 parts by weight of diphenyl are sulfonated with 125 parts by weight of sulfuric acid monohydrate at 105 to 110 for 2 hours. The melt is diluted with water, 150 parts by weight of 4,4'-dioxy-diphenylsulfone are added, 60 parts by weight of formaldehyde are added dropwise and condensation is then carried out until the solubility in water is 95 to 100, which requires approximately 30 to 40 minutes. The condensation product is then neutralized and made weakly acidic with formic acid. It delivers very full, soft, white and lightfast leather.
However, the condensation can just as well be carried out in an alkaline medium.
Products with similar properties are obtained when the above condensation is carried out with 100 parts by weight of 4,4'-dioxy-diphenylsulfone and 50 parts by weight of formaldehyde 30% .
Example 2: 100 parts by weight of diphenyl are sulfonated as described in Example 1, 3.2 parts by weight of 30.17o formaldehyde are added after dilution and the mixture is condensed at 90 to 95 minutes for 45 minutes. 75 parts by weight of 4,4'-dioxydiphenylsulfone and 15 parts by weight of 30/0 formaldehyde are then added and condensation is carried out for a further 5/4 hours at 100-105.
The condensation product, which has been neutralized and acidified with an organic acid, has very similar tannery properties to that described in Example 1.
The second condensation can also be carried out with 100 parts by weight of 4,4'-dioxydiphenyl sulfone and 20 parts by weight of 30% formaldehyde.
Example 3: 100 parts by weight of 4,4'-dioxy-diphenylsulfon are dissolved in 80 parts by weight of water and 105 parts by weight of 30% sodium hydroxide solution and, after adding 45 parts by weight of formaldehyde 30% </ B warmed to 50 to 55 for> 24 hours. The resinous condensation product is then carefully precipitated with hydrochloric acid, separated off and washed with water.
The 4,4'-dioxydiphenylsulfonemethylol compound obtained is then introduced into a crude diphenylsulfonic acid melt (is made by heating 100 parts by weight of diphenyl and 125 parts by weight of diphenyl for two hours and 125 parts by weight of sulfuric acid monohydrate to 105 to 110), and 25 parts by weight of 30% formaldehyde are added and condensed 45 minutes at 95 to 100.
The condensation product is neutralized and acidified with acetic acid or another organic acid. It is a high-quality tanning material with which white, very full and lightfast leather can be produced.
