-Man erhält also Gerbstoffe mit verhältnis mässig hohem Nichtgerbstoffgehalt.
Process for the production of a tanning agent. It is known that sulfonic acid rounds off polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and condensation of the sulfonic acids obtained with. Formaldehyde can produce tannins. The products obtained in this way, however, only have a relatively low filling capacity.
If you sulfonate with a relatively large excess of sulfuric acid, after the formaldehyde condensation, the filling power of the tanning material can be increased by condensation with aromatic (-) alkylzoliols. Even better filling tannins are obtained if, in addition, partially sulfonated phenol-aldehyde condensation products are added. The excess sulfuric acid in these products is rendered harmless by neutralization.
So you get tannins with a relatively high non-tanning agent content. If you want to produce tanning agents with a lower non-tanning agent content and therefore sulfate with less acid, you have to condense the sulfonic acid with more formaldehyde in order to obtain readily water-soluble products 7.11. This condensation takes a comparatively long time, and one obtains tannins whose filling capacity is not yet. is big.
It has now been found that a tanning agent is obtained by sulfonating a mixture of naphthalene and f-naphthol until partial water solubility is reached and by subsequent treatment with formaldehyde, if no sulfonated resol-like solution is obtained during the condensation until complete water solubility is achieved Condensates from formaldehyde and phenol oil, that is technical mixtures of phenol, cresol and xylenol, adds.
This gives a tannin with. good filling capacity and a favorable ratio of tannin to non-tanning agent. Another technical advantage is that the formaldehyde condensation takes place in a considerably shorter time. is finished; In this way, less than half the time required for the condensation of the sulfonic acid alone is sufficient.
Example: A mixture of 675 parts by weight of naphthalene ("V # -, arnrpressgut) and 75 parts by weight of B-naphthol is sulfated with a mixture of 560 parts by weight of 96% sulfuric acid and 190 parts by weight of 20% oleine at 85 to 95; the sulphonation mass is heated to 125. After cooling to 90 to 95, it is diluted with 375 parts by weight of water and 375 parts by weight of formaldehyde are then run in.
The mixture is stirred for three hours and, at about 100, a partially sulfonated condensation product, which has been prepared in the following manner, is run in. 690 parts by weight of phenolic oil, 570 parts by weight of 3011% formaldehyde solution and 400 parts by weight of sodium sulfite are added together and the mixture is heated to 100 for eight hours.
After the addition of this condensation product, the mass is heated to 80 for two hours. After cooling to 40, the mixture is neutralized with aqueous ammonia and acidified by adding? 00 parts by weight of formic acid. The tanning agent is a brown, viscous hasse, which is soluble in water without residue.
When tanning with the product obtained in this way, a light, full leather is obtained,
