Briquet pyrophorique.
Pyrophoric lighter. The object of the present invention is a pyrophoric lighter, characterized by a device for spring-loaded actuation of the cover, the latter being shaped and arranged such that the initial thrust determining the opening of this cover is given by the rotation of the actuating roller of the thumbwheel, the spring of said device also acting on a member for retaining the cover in the closed position.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view thereof with parts in section, along I-I of FIG. 5.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken along line III III of FIG. 4.
Fig. 4 is a top view, the cover being open and seen in section; fig. 5 is a cross section taken along the line V-V of FIG. 3, and fig. 6 is a bottom view.
The pyrophoric lighter shown com takes a housing 10 in the form of a rectangular parallelepip and a cover 11 pivoted about an axis 12 parallel to one of the short sides of the upper face of the housing and having a lateral recess 13 through which is accessible, with the cover closed, the roller 14 for actuating the wheel 15.
Roller 14 and thumbwheel 15 are integral with one another and rotate about a horizontal axis parallel to the long sides of the top face of the housing; for this purpose they have an axial bore, 14 ', 15', in which are mounted two sections of sliding axes 16 and 17 between which is housed a coil spring 18 tending to push the slides 16 and 17 towards the outside.
The slide 16 serves as a rear journal for the roller-knurl assembly; it rotates for this purpose in a borehole of a bearing 19 integral with the housing 10, the borehole opening into a second borehole 19 'perpendicular to the first serving as a seat for the pivoting axis 20 of the cover 11. L 'axis 2', 0 is 6 semicylindrical; it is wedged by a screw 21 (FIG. 4) in a hole in the cover 11. The slider 16 is constantly pressed against the pin 20 by the coil spring 18.
As for the slide 17, which serves as the front journal for the roller-knurl assembly, for this purpose it has an end 17 'of reduced diameter which rotates in a hole of a bearing 22 and whose rounded head is housed, under the action of the res comes out 18, in a recess 23 made in the front wall of the cover 11 thus forming a retaining stop for this closed cover.
On the front end of the wheel 15 is milled a triangle 2'4 on the upper base of which comes to rest, when the cover 11 is closed, a pin 25 planted in a side wall of the cover 11.
If the cover 11 is closed (fig. 3), the roller 14 which is attached to the wheel 15 is actuated with the thumb; the triangle 2, 4 lifts the pin 25 by turning and thus opens the cover 11, the semi-cylindrical axis 20 of which turns to present its flat face at the end of the rear slide 16. The cover opening movement takes place then automatically continues up to 9.0 under the action of this slide 16 pushed by the res sort 18.
Simultaneously the wheel 15 rubs against the stone 26 to cause the shower of sparks intended to ignite the wick 27. Thus the ignition of the wick and the opening of the cover are simultaneous, the initial thrust intended to activate the wick. cover opening spring being provided by the rotation of the roller 14. To close the cover, it suffices, on the other hand, to exert forward pressure on the back of the cover, the slide 16 facilitating under the action of the cover. spring 18 the last part of the closing movement.
The stone 26 is mounted in a vertical channel 28 formed in a wall of the housing 10; it is pushed against the wheel 15 by a coil spring 29 acting, on the one hand, on an upper slide 30 and, on the other hand. on a lower slide 31 freely crossing the crimped bottom 32 and the rounded outer end of which serves as a stopper for a cover 33 pivoted on a bearing screw 34 screwed into the bottom 32.
The cover 33 which also covers the stopper 35 (fig. 1) closing the opening of the stuffing tank 36 in which the wick 27 is buried, is hand held closed by the action of the slide 31 whose end: rounded outer comes be housed in a recess 37 made in the inner face of this cover.
The cap 35 is made of elastic material, for example synthetic rubber resistant to the action of the fuel soaking the tow of the tank 36.
The lighter shown further comprises a second reservoir 38 without tow, separated from the reservoir 36 by a vertical partition 39 and communicating with this reservoir by a passage 40 lined with tow. A threaded hole made in the bottom 32 makes it possible to fill the reservoir 38 which in turn feeds the reservoir, see 3.6. This hole is closed by a threaded plug 41 containing reserve stones.
