Ait lieu de former un voile unique ayant lotit la largeur du tainhour 4. laquelle dépasse V*@néralc ment un mètre et peut rendre le rcpliage c111 voile assez difficile, on peut for mer cieux ou plusieurs voiles sur le même ti,rnbour, en partant d'un nombre correspon- dant de petites nappes parallèles de kapok, four obtenir p1u;
Device for the treatment of smooth and short textile fibers, in particular kapok fibers. All the tests undertaken so far to produce kapok yarn suitable for weaving have not given the industrial result sought. Furthermore, it has been proposed to submit, to the action of a carding machine, a web of kapok reinforced with cotton or other textile materials with longer and less thin fibers, in order to obtain wicks or wicks. more resistant and more regular ribbons, but it has however not been possible to achieve, in this way, the industrial production of yarn perfectly suitable for weaving, despite the great losses of kapok which were allowed during manufacture.
Extensive tests have shown that the negative results obtained so far were mainly due to the fact that the mechanical treatments to which the kapok was subjected were not adapted to the extremely delicate nature in this way and, in particular, these The treatments did not sufficiently take into account the characteristics of the short fibers of this textile material. These drawbacks were handled even more markedly, because ventilated kapok was used, the fibers of which were made even shorter and more fragile.
The subject of the invention is a device for the treatment of smooth and short textile fibers, in particular of kapok fibers, this device comprising a large core drum on which a sheet of fibers is intended to be worked by worker rolls, of so as to transform this web into a web which is detached by a scraper comb and is folded back on itself and compressed between two calender rollers so as to obtain a wick which can be transformed into a wire.
This device eliminates the drawbacks mentioned above by the fact that the arrangement of the working rolls relative to the large drum, their speed and the nature of their linings are such that these rolls exert a very gentle action on the treated fibers, so as to avoid any . danger of deterioration of the veil formed.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example and schematically, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention. The single figure of the drawing shows a side view of the device, of which the various organs, driven by a motor 31, and the transmissions indicated in phantom, move in the direction indicated by the arrows.
A web of kapok 1 is brought, preferably by a conveyor belt, to a pressing cylinder? which makes it advance, on a guide not shown, towards a breaker cylinder 3. This sheet is; then drawn upwards. by a large carding drum 4 which cooperates with working rolls, namely carding rolls 5, î and size rolls 6, 8.
The kapok veil is then taken up by a combing cylinder 9, from which it is finally detached by a scraper comb 10, to then be folded back on itself and. be led between calender rollers 11, 12, to finally exit in the form of a very regular and strong wick which can then be transformed, in the usual way, into a thread suitable for weaving, said wick being able to be subjected to one, two or three subsequent stretching operations. the desired thread size. The yarn obtained perfectly withstands twisting.
The rolls 5 and 1 rotate at a speed substantially equal to that, relatively low, of the drum 4, while the larger rolls rotate at a slightly higher speed. These rolls 6 and 8 have silky linings.
The length of the bristles of these linings and the arrangement of the size cylinders with respect to the drum 4 are such that it is only a short end of the bristles of these linings which rubs, in passing, on the veil carried by the drum. 4, (so as not to exert any dangerous stress on the kapok fibers. These eYlinders also remove impurities due to the kapok might still contain, which allows the use of unventilated kapok, (leaves the fibers more long and more resistant.
The combing cylinder 9 has a lower peripheral speed than the drum. this ctiii is ava.ntagenx to complete the carding process and increase the resistance of the web.
It has been observed that the edges of the web 13. (; iii is finally detached by the scraper comb 10: retain greater resistance if the comb 10 is. Provided. At its ends. With teeth wider than those of the middle part. comb.
Thanks to this arrangement, it is: possible to fold the veil back on itself without any danger of breakage, while nu-ment the resistance of the. wick obtained after passing between the rollers 11, 12 which compress the. wick. These two cylinders were now identical.
In the device described, the ealandrage operation is improved and the danger of damaging the wick is eliminated, owing to the fact that the upper roll 1 \ _ 'is smaller and lighter than the lower roll 11. .
Instead of forming a single veil having divided the width of the tainhour 4, which generally exceeds one meter and can make the refolding of the veil rather difficult, one can form one sky or several sails on the same ti, rnbour, in starting from a corresponding number of small parallel sheets of kapok, furnace obtain p1u;
iir narrower sails which more easily support the folding to form the wicks.
