Machine for drawing or reproducing drawings or other subjects by light. This invention relates to a machine for printing or reproducing drawings or other subjects by exposure to a light source consisting of at least one lamp, fixed or mobile, of the electric discharge type in a gaseous atmosphere.
One of the peculiarities of discharge lamps in a gaseous atmosphere, such as mercury lamps, is that they require several minutes of passage of the current before reaching their full luminous glow and that, when we cut current, the lamp must be allowed to cool for a period of time before it can be turned on again. It is therefore undesirable to switch off the lamp after each exposure, since this could only be done by wasting a certain amount of time each time before the lamp gives out the required light.
Now, as lamps of this kind must be placed in relation to the printing or reproduction surface so as to project the maximum amount of light on it, it is obvious that a screen must be placed on the path of the light. towards paper or other layer of sensitized material while loading the frame, otherwise the sensitivity of that material may be affected.
According to the invention, the machine for printing or reproducing drawings or other subjects by exposing them to a light source consisting of at least one lamp, of the type with electric charge in a gaseous atmosphere, which sends its rays towards at least one transparent stage carrying the subject to be reproduced and the sensitized surface, is characterized by a flap combined with at least one stage and acting at least as a screen on at least part of its surface.
The appended drawing represents, by way of examples, some embodiments of the pulling or reproducing machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment mounting the shutter in a position of reflection of the light coming from the discharge lamps in a gaseous atmosphere and going on a curved glass plate around which is applied. or past the subject to shoot.
Fig. \? is a schematic view of a second embodiment, showing the shutter placed so as to reflect the light coming from the lamp towards the curved glass plate arranged in the horizontal direction, the double dot-dash line representing the. position that the shutter can occupy to intercept the light.
The fi-. 3 is a schematic view of a third embodiment showing the lamp arranged coaxially with two curved glass plates, the shutter here acting as a reflector on the left side and a screen on the right side.
The fi, -. 4 is a schematic view of a fourth embodiment showing the shutter provided with an orifice which may have invariable or variable dimensions.
In the machine shown in fig. 1, A designates a plate consisting of a glass trough or bowl with a curved profile. B lamps of the electric discharge type in a gaseous atmosphere, and D a rotating shutter forming either a screen or a reflector.
The machine shown in fig. 1 is a machine. draw or reproduce hori zontal type. This machine comprises a frame F on which is mounted the plate A provided with a lifting bar al in strong fabric and a ratchet clamping device to assu jettir the transparent subject and the sensitized paper against the glass and the plate. The light source consists of two lamps I> which are suspended vertically, in an adjustable manner, perpendicularly ÎÏ, the axis of the curved glass plate <4, so that the light source coincides with the axis around which the D-shaped cylinder segment shutter swivels.
This rotary shutter D is controlled by means of a handle a2 which is mounted at one end of the machine, as shown. The shutter D is shown in the position for which it acts as a reflector during the draft. When the shutter is brought to the reverse position, it acts as an inter ceptor screen or concealer, thus allowing the machine to be loaded without having to switch off the lamps. This saves the time taken for the lamps to return to their full light when the current is started.
When the shutter occupies this concealed position, it is possible, if desired, to safely leave the subject to be drawn into the. machine until the operator is ready to reload.
In the machine shown schematically in FIG. 2, the plate A, constituted by a glass trough with a circular profile, is arranged in the horizontal direction, and the lamp D is eccentric, with respect to the axis around which this profile is drawn. In this figure, the movable shutter D is shown so as to reflect the light emitted by the lamp B towards the glass plate A behind which the subject to be shot or reproduced is applied or moved by any suitable means.
When we bring the shutter D to the position represented by the double dotted line, this shutter acts as a screen and intercepts the light of the lamp B while we charge the plate A.
In the machine shown schematically in FIG. 3, the lamp B is placed coaxially with two glass plates A, A. The window D is represented while it acts as reflector of the light rays emanating from the lamp B and projected towards the left plate which - is being printed and, at the same time, functions as a screen intercepting the light rays towards the right turntable which is being loaded. A double-acting arrangement is thus produced.
In the machine shown in fig. 4, 11, shutter D is cut from a slit d1 to allow the exposure of the subject to be shot to take place through this slit. An organ is provided to make it possible to vary its will dimensions and even to close it completely.
This member is constituted by a slide d, as shown in dotted lines. In the machines shown in fig. 1 to 3, shutter D makes it possible, on the one hand, to intercept the light and recharge the board protected from the light rays of the lamp which remains on and, on the other hand, when this shutter is brought to the reverse position, to reflect the light during the exposure of the subject to be drawn or reproduced. By providing a time indicator device, such as a mi nuterie, in combination with the shutter, it is possible, when the shutter occupies its position of reflection, to determine the duration of the exposure.
