Cette caméra est caractérisée par le fait que ledit magasin est à même d'être - retiré et remplacé comme un tout et est contenu dans un compartiment de la boîte de la caméra, où il est disposé de façon qu'une portion du film soit au contact d'un dispositif d'entraînement fonctionnant de façon continue;

Ce bras est positionné de façon à fermer les contacts 94 et 96 de l'interrupteur du magasin de bande seulement quand le ma gasin est placé dans la caméra dans une posi tion convenable, le bras 89 s'étendant à l'inté rieur du magasin de bande 120 et reposant du côté de la bande enroulée S, sur une bobine d'alimentation 122, qui le maintient contre la paroi interne du magasin 120 ;
Quand les contacts 92 et 93 de l'interrup teur à déclic sont fermés, un courant traverse le solénoïde 95 et le temps nécessaire pour donner au solénoïde une charge suffisante pour fonctionner, et pour faire tourner la bo bine du solénoïde, qui est une extension de l'arbre 86, est suffisant au matériau M pour aller de sa position initiale entre les mâchoires des rouleaux 42-43; jusqu'au point où il pénè tre dans l'espace Z', temps pris depuis le moment où l'obturateur 83 est ouvert. Tant que le matériau M continue à traverser la caméra, le levier de déclenchement 88 n'est soumis à aucune pression, jusqu'au moment où le bord postérieur du matériau permet au levier de déclenchement de s'élever;
Mierofilmage camera The subject of the invention is a microfilming camera for microfilms in rolls; comprising a wire magazine containing rolls for the blank film part and the impressed film part.
This camera is characterized by the fact that said magazine is able to be - removed and replaced as a whole and is contained in a compartment of the camera box, where it is arranged so that a portion of the film is at the bottom. contact of a continuously operating drive device;
arranged inside the camera box, and that a portion of film can be impressed by light rays from a collecting lens device mounted adja cently to said film driving device, that a input device for documents to be photographed is located inside the camera box at a distance from the magazine compartment and an optical device is installed in the camera box between the document input means and said collecting lens device and comprises mirrors causing the light reflected from the document to travel in a zigzag way to the collecting lens device of the document.
light. The line driving device can be arranged so as to operate only when a document passes through the display area.
In order to keep the camera small, the document exposure area may be located in the lower part of the camera box and the mechanism for bringing the document to the camera. The display area can be placed in the free space between the entry and exit openings in the box.
The document illumination means can be placed in the box between the up and down light paths, and the film drive device can be placed close to the magazine.
To make the camera easier to use, it is possible to provide an additional box, the faces of which, when unfolded, respectively constitute a table to support and guide documents and a tray to receive and collect from a appropriately photographed documents.
The camera box may have an opening on its upper face and a door making it possible to close this opening. This opening makes it possible to remove the magazine, keeping the box placed vertically on the table. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, a preferred embodiment of the invention.

In the embodiment shown in fig. 1 and 2, the portable micro-filming camera comprises a box 20 which resembles, in dimensions, the box of a portable radio. This box has two covers 21 and 22 which cover most of the body of the camera 23 when the latter is not in operation or is being transported. These covers 21 and 22 can pivot around the body 23 of the camera by means of two pivots 24 and 25 which protrude from the lower part of the body 23.
These covers fold down like the lids of a suitcase, when you want to put the camera into operation.
In fig. 3 one can see ventilation openings 28 made on the upper surface of the camera body 23 to allow the interior of the camera to be ventilated and to prevent it from getting too hot.
The upper surface of the camera com carries a hinged plate 29 constituting a cover, the shape of which conforms to that of the camera and which is normally held in the closed position by a push-button device 33 or the like.
Plate 29 can be opened to allow access to the interior of the top portion of the camera, for inspection, maintenance, replacement of parts, insertion or removal from the magazine.
An electrical connection cord 37 connects the camera to a source of electrical current, which enables its electrical part to be put into operation.
In fig. 3, 6 and 7, the pivots 24 and 25 and the other associated elements have not been shown for the sake of clarity, and to show that the camera can be used without its covers 21-22 and without the box 20 Any object such as buttons and control levers that may protrude from the camera body can be placed inside housings if desired, so that the camera body can be transported inside. covers 21 and 22.
A handle 26 is provided on one of the two lids or on both lids 21 and 22, which provides a convenient means for carrying the camera.
Clasps or tabs 27 of a known type are used to hold the two covers 21 and 22 in the closed position and to prevent accidental opening when the camera is not in operation or during its transport.
A circular arc slot 30 is provided in the lower portion of the cover 21, in combination with the pivot 24. The curvature of this slot 30 is such that the cover 21 is held in a fixed position on the pivot 24 when it is in position. closed. But it can rotate and leave the body of the camera by releasing the tab 27 when it is necessary to do so. Slots 31 are provided on the other face of the cover 21 whereby, when the cover has been detached from the body 23, it can be turned upside down and re-engage on the body 23 by making the pins 24 enter the slots. 31, in the position shown in fig. 2, which is the normal operating position of the camera.
Not shown closure devices can be used to lock the cover 21 in this position. We thus obtain a seemingly solid maintaining the body of the camera 23 in a vertical position.
It can be seen that the flat outer surface 21 'of the cover 21 is placed upward and forms a table on which the documents to be microfilmed can be placed and kept ready to be microfilmed. Since the lower corner of the camera 23 protrudes inside the cover 21, in this position, a flexible angular panel -32 can be pivotally mounted on the cover 21, at 41, so as to form a wedge. A flexible movement allows it, when the box 23 enters this corner, to put itself in the position shown in FIG. 2.
When the camera body 23 and the camera cover are separated, the angular panel 32 immediately returns to its first position, as shown in fig. 1. Cleats or clasps can of course be used in place of a spring loaded device. But such a device requires additional manual maneuvers for disassembling and reassembling the camera.
An elongated opening 34 is made in the lower portion of the cover 22; this opening in combination with the pivot 25 makes it possible to separate the cover 22 from the body of the camera 23 and to put it in the open position shown in FIG. 2. A suitable latch or a spring push button mounted on an arm 35 placed on the body 23, allows in combination with an opening 36 formed in the cover 22, to lock the latter in the open operating position.
It can be noted that the cover 22 thus forms a tub-shaped container in which the microfilmed documents can accumulate.
A slot 39 is provided on the front cover of the camera body 23 below a plate 38, and at a height such that material passing over the 21 'surface or any other table or the like naturally enters. into this '39 slot and crosses the camera.
As shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the opposite side or the rear of the camera 23 has an opening at 40, so that any document having passed through the camera automatically exits through this opening and will be deposited in the container formed by the cover 22 or in any other appropriately placed container.
Two rollers 42 and 43, rotating in opposite directions in contact with each other, are placed just behind the entrance 39 so that any document M entering the slot 39 will be caught by these two rollers and will advance through. the body of the camera. As will be seen better in fig. 7, the document M set in motion by means of the feed rollers 42 and 43 passes through a zone Z inside which it is momentarily not supported, so that it is projected towards the container formed. through the cover 22.
As can be seen in fig. 5, the upper feed roller 42 is generally cylindrical in shape and extends across the entire width of the camera body 23 and is supported on supports not shown and placed on its two end faces.
Small sized rubber rings 47 are placed at intervals along the peripheral surface of the cylindrical feed roller 42; they increase its gripping faculties and make it easier to pass the material M through the camera; the feed roller 42 is set in motion at constant speed by a synchronous motor 48, by means of a pulley 49 mounted on the shaft 50 of the motor and by a V-belt 51, which winds around the pulley 49 and around the feed roll 42. If desired, a speed reducing mechanism can be used to achieve the proper rotational speed of the roll.
The feed roller 43 is similarly cylindrical, and extends across the width of the camera box 23; it is supported by arms 55 forming part of floating supports 54, as can be seen in FIGS. 6 and 7. The arms 55 are pivotally mounted on journals 56 fixed to the body of the camera, which allows the roller 43 to be pivoted and to move it away or to bring it closer to the roller 42.
A tension-working coil spring, 57, is wound around journal 56, has one end held stationary within an opening in the wall of the camera body, and has its other end attached to the arm 55, whereby this arm tends to rotate clockwise and press the lower roller 43 against the roller 42. Rubber pieces 58 are mounted at intervals, the along the peripheral surface of the roller 43, which ensures a friction drive of the roller 43, by the upper roller 42.
Fig. 5 also shows that the rubber rings 47 and 58 are interposed with respect to each other so that any material inserted between the two rollers assumes a slightly longitudinal configuration. Such a curved shape stiffens the material and forces it to return to a planar shape after it has passed through the feed rollers, and helps to bring it through zone Z without wrinkles or wrinkles. Thanks to this, two feed rollers are enough to propel the material through the camera.
A support 60 is provided on the opposite inner surface of the rear wall of the camera body: this support has a surface presenting an angular deflection 61, which serves to guide and direct the material M towards the exit opening. 40.
Motor 48 and feed rollers 42 and 43 are in operation at the same time as the camera. It follows that the documents and materials M can be directed at any time into the opening 39 on one side of the camera. They will immediately be gripped by the two feed rollers 42 and 43, pulled inside the camera, propelled through zone Z and unloaded on the other side of the camera.
Since the material M is intended to be microfilmed during its passage through the camera, it is necessary that it be subjected to sufficient illumination in the zone Z, this so that a satisfactory image can be formed and recorded on the camera. microfilm or any other light sensitive material. For this purpose, a row of lamps 63, mounted on a bench 62 above the zone Z, illuminate the material M during its passage through this zone.
As can be seen, these lamps 63 are connected in series, they are 12, 16 volt lamps of the type used in automobile headlights using a 12 volt power supply. In the particular embodiment, shown in FIG. 5, eleven lamps can be seen in series. This gives each lamp a voltage drop of the order of 10 volts, and allows the standard network to be used at 110 volts, while the bulbs are set for 12, 16 volts.
An advantage of an assembly of this type is that one can expect a long service life for the bulbs since they withstand a lower voltage than that for which they were originally established. Another advantage resulting from this series connection is that a failure to any lamp causes all the lamps to go out; this immediately draws the operator's attention to the fact that a lamp is out of service and needs to be replaced.
If the bulbs were mounted in parallel, failure to occur to a single lamp might not affect the operation of the camera enough to attract the attention of. This would result in taking one bulb out of service. not be noticed for a certain time, and during this time the illumination of the document would not be sufficient and the microfilming would not be carried out under satisfactory conditions.
Replacement 63 'bulbs can be provided in a holder mounted in the camera body.
Reflectors 64 can be mounted on either side of the lamp base 63, so as to direct the light towards the zone Z and to avoid the leakage of light towards the upper portion of the camera, or towards the parts of the optical system which must " be protected against any unwanted radiation.
The optical system used to form the image of the material M on a light sensitive strip S is shown in fig. 7. The particular portion of the material M which is being recorded is in the Z 'portion of the Z area. The light coming from it is reflected upwards, to a reflecting surface or a mirror. 65. This reflects it downward onto a second reflecting surface 66, which in turn reflects it upward. This forms a zigzag path which ultimately passes through a pair of lenses 67, placed in a tube which is supported by the camera body 23.
After passing through the lenses 67, the light ray path passes through a slit or opening 70 formed in the assembly which supports the lenses 67. The light then forms an image which is photographically recorded on the S-tape.
The adjustment of the reflecting surfaces 65 and 66 is effected by virtue of the fact that they are mounted on supports 71 and 60 carried by the body of the camera 23. As this adjustment is the same for both sets, we will only describe in detail. the setting of the set 60.
A flexible plate 72 is fixed at one end to the assembly 60 by a screw 74 and is fixed in an adjustable manner at the other end to the assembly 60 by means of a screw 76, which is attached. screws inside a bolt 75 integral with the flexible plate 72.
The movement of the adjustment screw 76 will cause the flexible plate 72 to form different angles with the assembly 60, which allows the direction of the zigzag path of the light rays of the materials to be varied. within certain limits, if necessary.
The dotted lines shown in fig: 7 show the field of the lenses 67 of the camera. Note that only a portion of the material, that which is in the Z 'space, will be photographically recorded on the S tape of the light sensitive material. The length of the zone Z ', as we can. see in fig. 7, can for example be determined by the width of the mirror 65 in the absence of interfering objects placed in the vicinity of this mirror.
The purpose of the microfilming camera described is to make it possible to photograph materials having different characteristics from the point of view of the reflection of light, with satisfactory results. Until now, in photography, these results have been obtained by varying the aperture of the shutter, increasing or decreasing the exposure time, changing the illumination, etc.
This result is obtained in the camera described by varying the exposure time of the material to light, by varying the effective length of the portion Z 'of the zone Z. This length represents the equivalent of the time of exposure of a given portion of the material M. In other words, the time required for any point or portion of the material M to completely cross the zone Z 'can be adjusted. This time is equal to the exposure time of that point or that portion.
The increase or decrease in the length of the zone Z 'is obtained at. by means of a window disposed laterally to the path of the light rays near the mirror 65. Following the form shown, a bar 77 mounted to pivot supports a pair of parts in the form of pallets 78 and a control lever 80, which extends towards the front of the bar through an opening 81 provided with notches and provided on the front cover of the camera body as shown in FIG. 3.
The front portion of the lever 80 has the shape of a crank 79. Immediately behind this crank, this lever has a section such that it can engage in the notches of the opening 81; this makes it possible to bring the lever 80 to any desired position and to keep it in this position by locking it on the screens of the opening 81.
Looking at fig. 7, we see that when the bar 77 rotates in the direction of clockwise, the lower pallet 78 for example enters the right side of the beam of light rays, between the zone Z 'and the reflector 65 and intercepts one of them. marginal portion. At the same time, the upper vane 78 enters the light beam between the reflectors 65 and 66 and intercepts another marginal portion thereof.
It will be noted that the bar 77 and the pallets 78 have a double action, which makes it possible to reduce the dimensions of the image simultaneously on two sides. As a result, it is not necessary to rotate the bar 77 through a very large angle, nor to give the pallets 78 a large dimension to substantially reduce the length of the zone Z. '. The result is the same as if we reduced the width of the mirror 65.
A shutter 83 is provided. This shutter can have a position, such as shown in fig. 6, which enables it to effectively intercept the path of the light rays coming from the image of the moving material M and to prevent their formation on the light-sensitive strip S. The shutter 83 is also capable of 'a rotational movement, which brings it to a position such as that shown in fig. 7, in which it no longer intercepts the light rays coming from the image and allows their photographic recording on the S band.
As shown in fig. 5, the shutter 83 comprises a U-shaped part mounted on a rotary collar or a shaft 86; this U-shaped part comprises an upper arm 84 and a lower arm 85. As can be seen, the upper arm 84 and the arm. lower 85 are rectilinear and are formed of a rectangular strip.
The arms could have their cross sections curved and form arcs of a circle centered on the axis of the rotating collar 86. The arms of the shutter only need to be able to intercept the path of the light rays of the system. optics and prevent unwanted light rays from being projected onto the S-band.
Looking at fig. 5, it can be seen that the lower arm 85 is placed at a greater distance from the axis of the collar 86 than the upper arm 84. This is due to the fact that the beam of light rays is divergent and that it is wider where it is intercepted by lower arm 85 than where it is intercepted by upper arm 84. As a result, lower arm 85 must sweep a greater peripheral distance and it can only do this if it is given a radial distance to the axis of the collar 86 greater than the radial distance of the upper arm 84.
We obviously want to expose the S band only when the material M is in a position such that it can be photographed; . the shutter 83 is therefore normally in the position shown in FIG. 6 in which it intercepts all light rays which could fall on the lenses 67. As soon as the material M is placed between the two rollers 42 and 43, a pair of curved triggering levers 88; which are mounted on a shaft 90 placed in the vicinity of the lower feed roller 43 and parallel thereto, are subjected to pressure.
They then rotate the shaft 90 and also a control rod 91 mounted on the shaft 90; the normal position of the connecting rod 91 is shown in FIG. 6 on which its upper portion rests lightly, and without giving them the slightest movement, on a pair of electrical contact parts 92 and 93.
When the control rod 91 turns clockwise, that is, when the material enters between the two feed rollers 42 and 43, the contact pieces 92 and 93 are brought into contact. electric tact as can be seen in fig. 7; this energizes a rotary solenoid 95, which rotates the collar 86. This allows the lower and upper arms of the shutter to be placed in the open position.
A return spring 69 "is held on a stud placed on a plate integral with the solenoid 95; this spring allows the solenoid to be returned to its first position so that the light rays are intercepted as seen in fig. 6, from that the solenoid is no longer energized.
It can be seen in fig. 4 the wiring diagram for contact parts 92-93 and solenoid 95. A series 82 switch is provided; it may be a simple toggle switch placed on the front cover of the camera body, which allows easy operator control of the camera; this switch is closed when you want to use the camera. A tape magazine switch 87 is provided which simply has an arm 89 extending outside of a tape magazine 120, as can be seen in Figs. 9 and 10.
This arm is positioned so as to close the contacts 94 and 96 of the tape magazine switch only when the magazine is placed in the camera in a suitable position, the arm 89 extending inside the magazine. of strip 120 and resting on the side of the wound strip S, on a supply reel 122, which holds it against the internal wall of the magazine 120;
the outer portion of the arm 89 extends widely outside the surface of the magazine 120 and hand holds the contacts 94-96- in the closed position, as long as the portion of the outer arm 89 is held by the presence sufficient amount of material wound on the supply spool 122.
When the strip S reaches its end on the supply reel 122, the internal part of the arm 89 is no longer held against the internal pa king of the magazine, so that its outer part no longer maintains the contacts 94-96 of the magazine. the magazine switch against each other, which has the effect of stopping the feed rollers 42-43 and interrupting the operation of the camera. This stops the entry of new material M into the camera and operation cannot be resumed until a new magazine replaces the worn magazine, and the contacts of magazine switches 94 and 96 are again on. closed position.
When the contacts 92 and 93 of the click switch are closed, current flows through solenoid 95 and the time required to give the solenoid sufficient charge to operate, and to rotate the solenoid coil, which is an extension. of the shaft 86, is sufficient for the material M to go from its initial position between the jaws of the rollers 42-43; until the point where it enters space Z ', time taken from the moment when the shutter 83 is opened. As long as the material M continues to pass through the camera, the trigger lever 88 is not subjected to any pressure, until the time when the posterior edge of the material allows the trigger lever to rise;
and disconnect the contacts 92 and 93. After this operation, the current flowing through the solenoid 95 is cut off, but a capacitor 103 and a rheostat 104 placed in this circuit have a time constant large enough for the shutter is not closed by the rotating lenoid 95 as long as the posterior edge of the material M has not evacuated the space Z '. Since the rheostat 104 is adjustable, the switch closing time constant can be adjusted as desired by the operator by means of an adjustable screw 115 ; this makes it possible to keep the shutter open for a while after the material M has passed behind the space Z '.
It is therefore possible to create a narrow separation space between two adjacent records on the recording tape S, a space whose width can be adjusted at the discretion of the operator depending on the circumstances.
We can see that the movements. the material M are thus directly synchronized with the opening and closing of the shutter 83; the shutter 83 is thus closed when no material passes through the camera and is in the microfilming position. When a material passes through the camera, the shutter is opened in coordination with the movement of the material M; the beam of the light ray coming from the material M passes through the lenses as long as the material is in the space Z ', that is to say as long as it is in the microfineering position.
It is necessary to synchronize the opening of the shutter 83 with the movement of the band S as well as with the movement of the material M; this is done by the following mechanism As can be seen in figs. . 6 to 8, an elbow lever 97 pivots on a journal 98. It has an arm 99 exerting a pressure contact on the rotating shaft 86 and on the shutter mechanism. A portion of the shaft 86 is made flat so as to fit over the arm 99 as can be seen in FIG. 6.
The lower end part of the arm 99 is substantially vertical, and a second arm 100 of the angled lever 97 is substantially horizontal, and extends in front of the journal 98.
A roller 101 intended to drive the strip S is mounted at the end of the shaft 107, itself mounted on supports carried by the arm 100. This roller is normally in a position such that it has no contact with the S-band. As can be seen in FIG. 5, the shaft 107 is extended to the vicinity of the shaft 50 of the motor 48 and it is set in continuous movement, thanks to a belt 117, which is guided on pulleys 118- 119 mounted on the shaft 50 of the motor 48, and the shaft 107 of the roller 101 respectively.
A support 121 is provided for the pulley 119 of the drive roller shaft 107, which gives it a hinged mounting so that the other end of the shaft which carries the drive roller 101 can be lifted. or lowered by the action of lever 97, so as to ensure frictional contact on the S band.
As long as the solenoid 95 is energized and rotates the shaft 86, the vertical arm 99 which is in contact with the flat portion of the shaft will rotate on its pivot 98 and go to the left as can be seen in FIG. 7. The lever 97 then rotates in the clockwise direction. The drive roller 101 is then brought into contact with the band S. The drive roller 10l presses the band S against two rollers 102 rotating around shafts fixed inside the box of the machine. This gives tight contact between the pickup roller 101 and the S-belt.
This then sets in motion; when the solenoid 95 is no longer energized, the roller 101 drops back and the contact ceases.
The strip S is thus set in motion in the positive direction by the drag roller 101 only when the rotary collar or the shaft 86 supporting the shutter 83 is rotated into its operating position; in this way, the movement of the material M results in the activation of the rotary solenoid which consequently turns, opens the shutter and at the same time brings the drive roller into contact with the strip S.
The drive roller 101 is placed behind the slit or opening 70 through which the light rays from the material M pass. It effectively shoots the film which comes from the supply reel 122; a suitably shaped piece 105 is placed directly above the strip S, above the opening 70, and presses and guides the strip.
To prevent loosening of the strip S, after it has been brought into contact with the drive roller, it is necessary to provide a discharge spool 106, rotating in the positive direction. As can be seen in fig. 5 and 8, a second drive roller 108 is mounted on the same shaft 107 as the drive roller 101. As the drive roller 101 rises, the discharge roller 108 also rises and comes into contact with a. large drive wheel 110, which is mounted crazy on the frame of the camera 23, next to the film store.
The operation of the escape mechanism can be seen more clearly. in fig. 8, in which the discharge drive roller 108 can be seen in engagement with the large wheel 110. The large wheel 110 engages with a discharge wheel 113, fixedly mounted on the same shaft as the spool. evacuation. This makes it possible to drive the discharge coil 106.
A comparison of the diameters of the roller 101 and the exhaust drive roller 108, as can be seen in FIG. 5, shows that the discharge drive roller 108 is somewhat larger. This has the consequence that this roller rotates with a peripheral speed slightly greater than that of the roller 101. A slippery clutch is provided on the shaft 107 and comprises a support 124 fixed in rotation on the shaft 107. A pressure spring 125 is secured against support 124 and exerts its force through a clutch with sufficient pressure to bear on discharge drive roller 108.
This starts to move and tends to take a sufficiently high speed to maintain tension on the film.
When the arm 99 of the angled lever 97 is moved by rotation of the shaft 86, it brings the discharge drive roller 108 into contact with the large wheel 110. This engages the large wheel 113 and the discharge coil 106.
An arm or leg: 126 (fig. 8) is formed on a portion of the camera frame and is put into position such that it contacts the big wheel 110 as the arm lowers and lowers the roller d. 'training 108. When the big. drive wheel 110 descends, it comes into contact with the lug 126; braking action takes place and any tendency to bad winding is avoided; this effectively prevents the unwinding of the film from the discharge reel.
If desired, any other type of brake can be employed to prevent this unwinding tendency.
The film magazine 120 can be placed or removed by hand from the camera body and is held in position thereon by a flexible leaf spring 123 placed on the underside of the plate 29. The magazine is removed. by lifting the plate 29 and simply pulling on the magazine which simply rests on the angle iron 71. Since a positive drive device is held between the discharge wheel 113 mounted on the mast and the large drive wheel 110 mounted on the camera body, an elastic mount is provided as shown in fig. 8; for the large drive wheel 110.
This wheel is mounted on one end of a lever with two branches 112 whose branches are slidably mounted on a fixed journal 114. A spring 116 is attached on one side to an eye mounted on the fixed shaft 114 and on the other side to the two-branch lever 112; it tends to pull the large drive wheel in the direction of the journal 114, so that the normal position of the large wheel 110 is as far as possible to the right of FIG. 8.
When the magazine is inserted up and down inside the camera body, the discharge wheel 113 mounted on the magazine contacts the large wheel 110 and drops to the left, counteracting the action of the magazine. spring 116. This allows for vigorous frictional engagement.
In fig. 15 is shown a device for inserting the film magazine. The magazine 120 can be guided to its normal position by a sliding plate 140; this plate has a leaf spring 141 mounted on its lower end; this blade pushes the lower part of the magazine to its appropriate position to the left as can be seen in fig. 15.
When the upper part of the magazine is guided by hand towards the left, it is hand held in this position by a new res out 145 which fits into a depression 148 made in the magazine 120 and maintains it in its correct position. The removal of ma gasin is done in a similar way, but in reverse; the top of the magazine is first pulled to the right until it disengages from spring 145 and contacts plate 140; it is then removed by hand from the body of the camera.
The film magazine 120 is shown in fig. 9, in which the relative position of the openings 127 and 129 can be seen. The opening 127 allows the drive mechanism of the camera to come into contact with the tape to set it in motion, while the opening 129 allows the projection on the tape of the image of the material passing through the camera.
The openings 127 and 129 should be kept open while the camera is in operation and closed when the magazine is removed from the camera. There should be a closure 153 capable of automatic movement between two positions, one open and the other closed, when the box is inserted or removed from the camera.
As can be seen in fig. 14 to 16, the opening plate 29 is provided with a console 142 and a pin 144, on which a lever 143 is rotatably and freely mounted; the lower part of the lever 143 com carries a pivot pin 146 whose end is in sliding contact with a slot 147 placed in the body of the camera. When the plate 29 is raised to its open position, as shown in phantom in fig. 14, lever 143 is also lifted and pulled to the left, tenon 146 moves from the right end of slot 147 to the left end.
When the plate 29 is lowered and returned to its closed position, as shown in solid lines in FIG. 14, the tenon 146 returns to its position to the right of the slot 147.
An angular arm 149 of the lever 143 extends below the magazine box 120. It has a tenon 150 capable of entering a slot 152 formed below the magazine, which at this point is double-walled. The length of the post 150 is such that it penetrates only the outer wall of the back of the magazine without touching the inner wall and without affecting its tightness against the light. Slot 152 is formed in the outer wall of the bottom of the store. and the tenon 150 is capable of providing a guided sliding movement under the action of the movements of the arm 149 and the lever 143.
The screen 153 includes a strip of flexible material capable of fitting between the walls of the double-walled bottom of the bottom of the box and sliding therein. A slot 155 is formed in the screen 153 and is positioned so as to lie above the slot 152 in the exterior wall of the bottom of the store; the tenon 150 can enter it. It will be understood that the back and forth movement of the post 146, in the slot of the camera 147 and a corresponding movement of the post 150 in the slot of the magazine, will give the screen 153 a back and forth movement. going from its position shown in fig. 14 and 16 when the camera plate 29 is lowered, to a closed position when the camera plate is raised.
In this way, the apertures for the lens and the drive roller in the magazine will be automatically uncovered, when the plate 29 is pulled down for camera operation, and closed when the plate 29 is raised for removal. of the shop.
When a new magazine is to be inserted, its screen 153 must be in the closed position and the tenon 150 naturally penetrates the opening of the screen, and is in position to ensure the opening, when the plate 29 is knocked down. .
A more compact mechanism for the movement of the shutter is shown in Figs. 17 and 18. A solenoid 95 'is used, but it is placed so that the plane of rotation of the shutter 83' is horizontal. We can clearly see that. energizing solenoid 95 'will cause shutter 83' to rotate rapidly from the position shown in fig. 18 where it closes the opening to the lenses in an open position where the lenses are exposed, and allows light rays to pass and allows the projection of the image of the material to be microfilm.
A slightly different setup is provided to coordinate the elevation of the tape drive roller 101 'with the shutter opening. Such an assembly comprises an annular cam 156 mounted on a part 157 integral with the solenoid 95 ', so that it rotates in synchronism with the shutter 83'. The movement of the annular cam 156 is the cause of the corresponding movement of a workpiece or a roller 158 which rises and which brings the tape drive roller 101 'into contact with the tape S.
It should be noted that the belt drive roller 101 'is mounted at the end of a constantly rotating shaft 107', and that a drive roller 108 'and a res = clutch comes out 124' and 125 'are similarly provided to set the discharge roller in motion with excess speed in the same manner as shown in FIG. 8. A modification of the mechanism by which the film strip is set in motion intermittently in synchronism with the movement of the material in the camera and the rotation of the shutter is shown in figs. 11 and 12 on which the solenoid 95 is shown not energized.
The excitation of solenoid 95 is produced in the usual way by entering the material into the camera to be microfilmed. The shaft 86 'rotates and drives the rotation of a detent lever 97'. This lever has a vertical arm 99 'and a couple of horizontal arms 100'. The lever 97 'pivots on a tenon or a shaft 109 and it tends to turn counterclockwise despite the action of a tension spring 111, due to the rotation of the shaft. 86 'which exerts pressure against the vertical arm 99'.
In this particular type of mechanism, the drive roller 101 is mounted on a shaft 107 ', which is held on supports devoid of elasticity and rotates about a fixed axis. The two arms 100 'extend next to the strip S and are in contact with its underside, which is supported by a leaf spring 128. This normally tends to press the strip S against the drive roller. ment 101 and to keep it in engagement with it by friction. The energization of the solenoid 95 causes the lowering of the arms 100 'which allows the engagement and the band S advances through the opening of the lenses 129.
The movement towards the. top of the arms 100 'due to the end of the energization of the solenoid 95 and the action of the spring 111, allows the spring 128 to remove the contact between the band S and the drive roller 101 and the band stops at once. A web guide and a roller device 130 are also provided in the magazine 120 to guide the web against the openings 127 and 129 in the store 120.
Another modification of the mechanism allowing the intermittent driving of the film to coordinate with the movement of the material in the camera and the rotation of the shutter is shown in fig. 13. In this modification, the driving energy is provided by a rotating pulley wheel 132 combining its action with a large pulley wheel 133 which is mounted on a movable shaft 134, itself mounted on a swivel arm 135 , ca pable with a slight vertical movement.
A transmission belt 136 winds on the pulley 132 and on the large pulley 133, which allows their reciprocal drive. A band drive roller 101 is fixedly mounted on the shaft 134 and is in a position normally spaced from the band S so as not to be able to drive it.
A solenoid 137 whose action is coordinated with the solenoid 95 is mounted above the lever 135 and held thereon by a connection bar 138 in contact with the coil 139 of the solenoid 137, when the solenoid 137 is energized. , it pulls the connection bar 138 upwards, as well as the lever 135 and the drive roller 101. The drive roller 101 then comes into contact with the strip and drives it thanks to the action of the spring. 128.
The solenoids 137 and 95 can be energized simultaneously or on the contrary successively, a suitable time interval separating their excitations, which makes it possible to coordinate the opening of the shutter with the movement of the strip and the entry of the material into it. the camera.
