Vergaser.

Carburetor. The invention relates to carburetors for internal combustion engines with a fuel tank, several jet nozzles and with a mixture throttle in the main channel.
In the case of such carburetors, jet pipes lying across the main channel were also used to allow mixtures into the main channel.
The subject matter of the invention is characterized in that the jet nozzles are arranged in pairs, that each pair of nozzles consists of an outer and an inner nozzle, that the outer and the inner nozzle of each pair, which is arranged coaxially with it, open into an associated riser channel at opposite points The cross section at the junction point of the nozzles is greater than the cross section of the latter at this point, and further that the inner nozzle of each pair is connected to the main channel.
The drawing shows exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention and variants.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through a case of game; Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Figure 4 is a similar section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2; Fig. 5 is a cross section through the main channel and nozzles;
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section on a larger scale; Fig. 7 is a section on line 7-7 of Fig. 6; Fig. 8 is a variant; Fig. 9 is a section on the line 9-9 of Fig. 1, through the control device; Fig. 10 shows a further variant; Fig. 11 is a section of another embodiment from; Fig. 12 is a longitudinal section of another embodiment;
Fig. 13 is a partial section of the carburetor of Fig. 12 and Fig. 14 is a section through a further embodiment.
First, the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 6 and 9 will be explained: Here the line 1 'forming the main channel 1 has a flange 2 for fastening to the inlet pipe of the internal combustion engine. This flange has holes 3. Furthermore, this line has a second flange 4 (Fig. 2 and 3).
The main channel 1 comprising, an annular fuel container 5 is angeord net, which is clamped between the flange 4 of the line 1 'and a nut 6 screwed onto the line 1', with seals 7 and 8 between the bottom of the container and the nut and between tween the upper edge of the container and the flange 4 are provided. At the top of this pot-like container is a number of small holes 10, which are somewhat covered by the fact that the edge of the container 5 is in a recess 11 in the flange 4.
In the fuel container 5, a float 12 of any common shape is arranged, which is hinged at 13 on the arms 14 (Fig. 4), which in turn are hinged to the hanging part 15 of the flange 4 and actuate a needle valve 16, which is in a corresponding seat 17 screwed to the flange 4. By screwing the seat 17 up and down, the height of the liquid mirror 51-51 in the container 5 can be regulated. will.
An articulated float ensures greater stability of the liquid level when the carburetor is tilted. But it can also be a firmly seated on the arms 14, for. B. screwed or soldered float can be used. The main channel 1 is connected to the inside of the fuel tank 5 by a number of very small nozzles 18, 181, arranged in pairs, as shown in particular in FIGS. 6 and 7, these nozzles in connection with those forming the riser channels Riser pipes 19 of the fuel atomizer 20 are available.
Each pair of nozzles consists of an outer and an inner nozzle.
The outer nozzles 18 of the nozzle pairs 18, 181 have the shape shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, i. H. they are narrowed like a venturi, which is not necessary. The inner nozzles 181 have the smallest possible cross section, which is nevertheless so large that they are not exposed to the risk of clogging by substances contained in the air or in the fuel. It is precisely the small cross-section of these nozzles 18, 181 that partly causes the very fine distribution of the fuel as is achieved in this carburetor.
The nozzles 181 open into the main channel.
The opening of the nozzles 18 opens into the fuel tank 5. Above the liquid level 51 and the jet nozzles 18, 181 on the same axis in each pair open into an associated riser 19 at the opposite points.
In each riser 19, a gas mixture is generated by vortexing, which is blown out into the main channel with acceleration through the associated, inner jet nozzle 181 of each pair.
The inside diameter of each tube 19 is greater than the cross section of the nozzle 18, 181 at this point of confluence and the tubes 19 protrude beyond the nozzle into the tube at the point where the nozzles open into the tube. The upper end of these tubes is closed ver, while the lower end extends below the liquid level 51-51. A quantity control in the riser pipes 19 is not necessary.
It has also already been established that an atomizer constructed in this way is aimed at a very fine distribution of the fuel, due to the high speed that can be given to the air flowing through the nozzles 18, 181.
It should be noted here that this air speed through the nozzles 18, 181 can be varied to a large extent, relative to the air speed through the main channel 1, since the speed through the nozzles is determined by the pressure difference between the main channel 1 and the inside of the Behäl age 5 is present.
It should also be noted that the small cross-section of the nozzles 18, 181 can be retained in both large and small capacities. since the atomized amount of fuel can be regulated by the number of nozzle pairs 18, 181 and further by the air speed through the nozzles 18, 181.
The tubes 19 are embedded in a ring 21 which is tight around the line 1 '. This ring is shaped so that it encompasses the upper ends of the tubes 19, with the exception of the ascending duct shown in FIG. 3, which leads further upwards. The whole thing is welded to line 1. An outer nozzle 18 and an inner nozzle 181 each form an atomizer 20. This economical design can be modified, as can be seen from FIG.
In this, the nozzle 18A is arranged in a part 21A, which consists of one piece with the line 1A, the bore 19A replacing the pipe 19 and forming the riser channel.
In the line 1 ', just below the row of nozzles 18, 181, there is a sleeve 25, 26 which gives the main channel a venturi constriction. This can be axially adjustable in the line, for example by using a screw. The cuff 25, 26 consists of two parts in order to be able to change their actual, effective diameter, which is achieved by the fact that the part 25 is firmly seated in the Lei device 1, but the part 26 is rotatable in it, the through the two parts gebil ended openings are eccentric.
The rotation of the part 26 relative to the part 25 then results in a change in the effective passage cross-section of the Venturi tube. The part 26 can be determined in its position by a stud screw 27. The upper part 1 of the line has a mixture throttle valve 30 in the main channel, which is seated on an axis 31 with an adjusting lever 32. The axis 31 lies in bearing parts 33 of the flange 4, with bores 35 of the bearing parts 33 cidieren with those of the axis 31 koin when the flap is in the fully open position.
The openings 35 connect the outside air with the air space of the container 5 when the flap is fully open in order to enrich the mixture with air in this flap position. These (openings can also be missing.
As can be seen from the drawing, the lower part of the line 1 has an extension 40 with an air throttle valve 41, which is operated together with the mixture throttle 30.
The device for actuating the Dros selklappen 30 and 41 has according to FIG. 9 a chamber 42 with a stator 43 and a rotor 44, which the latter sits on the shaft 45 on which the air throttle 41 is attached. The shaft 45 is connected to the end plate 47 of the chamber 42 by a torsion spring 46 (fix. 1). The tension of the spring can be changed in that one bent end 48 of the same is inserted into one of the bores 49 of the end plate 47 who can. A cover 50 covers the spring 46.
The setting of the spring 46 is such that the air throttle 41 is normally kept closed. However, in order to prevent complete closing, a small piston 52 (fix. 9) is provided in a hole in the wall of the chamber 42 and of the stator 43, the rod 53 of which extends through an actuating body 54. A spring 55 lies between the small piston 52 and the actuating part 54, while the size of the downward movement of the piston is limited by a cross pin 56 of the rod 53.
The rotation of the rotor 44 takes place through the suction effect from the inside of the pipe 1 'towards the inside of the chamber 42 via the channel 58.
The width of the opening of the air throttle 41 is in this way in a certain th ratio to the prevailing in the lower part of the main channel 1 negative pressure. The degree of closure of the air throttle 41 is limited by the position of the small piston 52. The air throttle 41 only closes completely when the piston 52 moves outward by a sufficient distance.
The size of the movement of the rotor 44 is regulated by the cross section of an opening 60 in the chamber 42, which is arranged so that it is at least partially covered by the rotor when the flap 41 closes completely, so that the speed of the rotor is at first much smaller when the throttle 41 leaves the closed position.
Instead of the above-described control device for the air throttle, this can be connected to the mixture throttle, as shown in FIG. 10, to joint control.
Here sits on the axis 31 of the mixture drum in addition to the arm 32, an arm 62 and the axis 45 of the air throttle also has an arm 63. A connecting rod 64 connects the arm 63 with the arm 62. But to allow the air throttle to act as a closing member , the rod 64 is slidably arranged in a block 65 which is articulated on the arm 63. Under the block 65, an adjusting ring 66 is firmly seated on the rod 64 and a spring 67 is seated on the block 65 and is supported against an adjusting ring 68 on the rod 64.
With this arrangement, arm 63 will normally work in concert with arm 62, but arm 63 can be held on while arm 62 continues to move to open the mixture throttle.
However, the control based on suction is generally preferred to operate the air throttle, since this results in a short time delay when the flap is suddenly opened or closed, which suddenly leads to a mixture that is suddenly very rich or diluted.
The air throttle 41 and the associated actuating device can be completely omitted, with the exception of the usual starting throttling. For example, the retention of fuel in the case of small flap openings can be reduced by the well-known principle of air bubbles,
which arise through the inlet @ of air to the tubes 19 below the liquid level in the container 5. The subsequent whisking assists in lifting the fuel in the tubes 19, or the fuel supply to the small atomizers can be measured using any known compensating atomizer device.
It should be noted that the regulation of the amount of liquid fuel in the air is necessary, and this is achieved through an air inlet 70 (FIG. 4) in the line 1 ', which is preferably in an area of the main channel 1 in that the negative pressure is not as great as directly above the nozzles 18,
18I. The air inlet leads from the main duct to the fuel tank. At the air inlet 70, a needle valve 71 is provided so that the additional amount of air can be regulated. This is an effective way of regulating the mixture, since an exact setting between the negative pressure difference in the main channel 1 and in the tank 5 can be made.
The negative pressure in the container 5 can be regulated to a large extent by the amount of air entering from the outside through the passages 8e 10 and by the amount of air that can be discharged into the main channel 1.
The effective ratio of the cross-section of the passages 10 connecting the atmosphere with the air space of the container to that of the nozzles 18, 18 'and to that of the air inlet 70 varies in the various cases and increases depending on the conditions prevailing in such cases be determined. .
It is further clear that; Although the use of the opening 70 with an adjustable cross-section results in an effective mixture regulation, this regulation is not the only one that can be used, since it is possible to switch off this opening 70 at all (or if it is used further, to a permanent one To determine the cross-section) and to regulate the amount of air that is urgent through the passages 10 into the fuel container by providing control elements at the passages.
This will continue to give a very effective regulation of the pressure in the container.
Likewise, the arrangement of a plurality of passages 10 is not essential, rather only a single opening can be used, which can advantageously be provided with a needle valve.
The passages 10 can instead of being directly connected to the outside air, as shown in the drawing, lead into a further chamber, wherein the amount of air can be regulated by a suitable Ventilein direction.
The nozzles 18 can also open directly into the atmosphere instead of into the fuel chamber 5.
There is an additional atomizer 75 arranged with an extension 76 of one of the tubes 19 of the atomizer 20. This extension 76, which forms a riser channel with the tube 19, is connected to the main channel 1 in the vicinity of the mixture throttle and has a Needle valve 77 for setting. Furthermore, an air inlet 78, FIG. 2, with a needle valve 79 is provided, the nozzle 18 of an atomizer 20 serving as an air vent.
The carburetor described works as follows: If the machine to which the carburetor is attached is set in motion, negative pressure arises in the upper part of the main channel 1 above the mixing throttle 30, and if this throttle is partially or fully open, it also occurs in the part of the channel 1 below the mixture throttle 30 negative pressure.
The direct effect of this is that the pressure prevailing in the container 5 is reduced, since a flow occurs through the nozzles 18, 181 and through the tuft inlet 70 . The negative pressure then causes air to enter the container. The negative pressure in the container will not be as great as that in the main duct 1 immediately at the nozzles 18, 181 and at the air inlet 70, and this pressure difference will cause an air flow through the nozzles 18, 18 'and the air inlet 70.
The air flow through the nozzles 18, 181, in conjunction with the tubes 19, causes fuel liquid to be drawn up in the tubes 19. The fuel is then very finely divided for the reasons given.
Simultaneously with the process just described, the negative pressure present in the main channel 1 is distributed to the chamber 42 via the channel 58 (FIGS. 1 and 9), whereby the rotor 44 rotates against the spring 46 until a balance between the height of the Underpressure and the spring tension he eats enough. The air throttle 41 will therefore open in order to let the prescribed amount of air into the line and to mix it with the atomized fuel in order to achieve a good combustion mixture.
Any change in the position of the mixture throttle 30 has an effect on the negative pressure in the line and consequently also on the air flow and the atomization process, and the regulation of the amount of air through the air throttle 41 will follow this process.
During idling, the admission of the required fuel is maintained by the additional atomizer 75, and the air throttle 41 is prevented from fully closing during this time by the piston 52, because the piston 52 is in contact with the rotor 44 so that the latter from any further movement in this direction is held under the influence of the spring 46 from.
If the mixture is to be enriched when starting, the small Kol ben 52 is pulled outwards in order to see the rotor 44 rotate in the chamber 42 and consequently the air throttle 41 can practically close. Since the rotor closes the opening 60 in this position. its return will be slow due to the suction in the main channel until the opening 60 is covered again, whereupon the rotor can easily follow the pressure fluctuations in the main channel.
For the above description of the we effect of the gasifier, it should be noted that in the container 5 partly by virtue of the pressure reduction in this container and partly as a result of the air flow through this container ter part of the fuel gasified. However, this proportion of fuel is relatively small. Therefore, when there is talk of an air flow through the nozzles 18, 18 'of the atomizer 20, this air also contains a portion of gasified fuel. This evaporation or gasification ensures economical operation and is particularly suitable for carburetors on vehicles or the like. He desires.
But if a high volumetric efficiency is required, as for example in racing and flying machines, then it may be desirable to dust the fuel with a minimum of gasification to allow a maximum of fuel and air to enter the cylinders. The openings 35 (Fix. 1), which lead additional air to the container 5 when the mixture throttle is fully open, have the effect of enriching the mixture at the throttle opening.
The carburetor shown in Fig. 11 has mainly the same shape as that of Figs. 1 to 7 with the exception that an additional air chamber 80 is used, which sprinkle between the part 21B with the atomizers 20B and the flange 4B lies. The outer nozzles 18B open into this chamber. A seal 81 is inserted between the chamber 80 and the flange 4B, and air is admitted to this chamber through an opening 82 from the outside.
The amount of air entering through opening 82 is regulated by a needle valve 83. Furthermore, air is admitted to the container 5B through corresponding bores 10B, and an opening 70B with a needle valve 71B for connection to the inside of the line 1B is provided to regulate the pressure within the container 5B. This device allows a fuel flow through the nozzles 18B, 18B ', which is regulated by the pressure reduction in the fuel container.
It should be added here that it is not always necessary, but mostly appropriate, to use the opening 70B, since under certain conditions a good fuel flow can be achieved in the container 5B under atmospheric pressure, such as in the case where an air vent in which tube 19C (fix. 12) is present.
The operation of this embodiment of the carburetor is similar to that described above with the exception that the regulation of the air flow through the nozzles 18B, 18B 'of the atomizers 20B takes place with the aid of the air volume entering the air chamber 80 through the openings 82 and when in use of the opening 70B, the mixture is regulated by the level of the negative pressure in the container 5. The constriction 85 corresponds more to the practical standard shape.
The atomizers 20B act in this case via the openings 86 in the venturi. It should be noted, however, that a Venturi tube 25, 26 according to FIG. 1 or 3 can also be used here and vice versa.
The carburetor shown in Figures 12 and 13 is similar to that of Figures 1 to 9 builds GE; but it is a downward working carburetor, i.e. H. the air flow is in the opposite direction.
The atomizers 20C are the same as those previously described, as is the container 5e, except that this is located between a flange 90 near the fastening flange 2C of the gasifier and a flange 91 of a pipe piece 92. The container is provided with seals 93 and 94 to prevent leakage and the piece 92 is pressed down onto the chamber 5C with the nut 6C on a thread of the conduit 1C.
A seal 7C is provided, and a narrow wedge ring 95 is disposed between the "!:" Part 92 and the conduit 10. Furthermore, the openings 10C are provided.
The air throttle 41C is on the inlet side of the line as before, and the mixing throttle 30C is located near the attachment point of the line.
Venturi throat 25C-26C terminates opposite atomizers 20C. However, as a result of the reversal of the current flow in the carburetor, it covers the additional opening 70C, and therefore the part 26C is pierced and an opening 96 which is connected to the additional opening 70C and opens approximately in the vicinity of a corresponding vacuum chamber is arranged.
A certain for low speed atomizer 75C with the pipe extension 76C is provided in a slightly modified embodiment. The extension 76C opens into the body 21C (fix. 13) and is closed at the upper end, but is equipped with a channel 98 which is in communication with one of the tubes 19C of the atomization system 20C. It should be noted that in this gasifier the various nozzles 18C, 18C1 of the atomizing device 20C are at different heights, as can be seen from FIG.
These different altitudes are the reason that the atomizers work one after the other, according to their distance from the fuel level, depending on the flow rate through the nozzles.
This device can be used in any of the arrangements described.
In the preceding description, when explaining FIG. 11 with reference to the identical parts in FIGS. 1 to 8, the same reference numerals have been used, only with the index B, while in the description with reference to FIGS. 12 and 13 of the Index C was used. In Fig. 14, the index D is used.
This figure is a cross-section through a fuel container 5D which is adjacent to the conduit 1D instead of enclosing it; while there are a number of atomizers 20D and openings 10D. The Ge mixing and air throttle and other required parts can be adapted to the type of FIGS.
The side fuel container can also be arranged in such a way that it is connected to a sleeve that encompasses the atomizer, so that the atomizer can be attached symmetrically to part of the circumference of the air line.
Finally, it should be noted that the Pig. 10 can be brought to any of the carburetors shown in the drawing, the same replacing the suction device that otherwise operates the air throttle.
All air and gas passages in the carburetor are expediently provided with control devices for changing the cross-section.
