Diese Kondensationen können, wie in der deutschen Patentschrift Nr. 494446 ange geben, in Wasser vorgenommen werden, zum Beispiel durch Erhitzen in wässriger Na- triumbisulfitlösung auf Temperaturen zwi schen 80 und 120 C.;

Process for the preparation of a dye. It has been found that it is possible to obtain dyes which, in the so-called "post-chrome plating process" on wool, are characterized by very excellent fastness properties, in particular lightfastness in addition to a very pure color shade and very good leveling capacity, if aminonaphthalic acids,
their derivatives or substitution products are condensed with aromatic or hydroaromatic amino compounds which contain a chromable group in an external position and either use those reaction components of which at least one contains a sulfo group, or the condensation products are sulfated afterwards.
As indicated in German Patent No. 494446, these condensations can be carried out in water, for example by heating in aqueous sodium bisulfite solution to temperatures between 80 and 120 C .;
It is also possible to get the same or similar dyes if one - as already described in German Patent No. 502570 - of the corresponding nitronaphthalic acid derivatives, for example
EMI0001.0028
where K denotes the remainder of an aromatic or hydroaromatic hydrocarbon with an external chromizing group, goes out and this is reduced and then sulfated, or treated with such reducing agents,
which, in addition to the reduction, also allow a sulfo group to enter the molecule at the same time, such as alkali hydrosulfites or bisulfites, etc.
It is also possible to carry out the condensation and reduction in a single operation.
It has also been found that this chromium complex salt formation can be carried out in all representatives of this class that contain a chromable group not only as indicated on the fiber, but also in substance, resulting in dyes that have excellent fastness properties even without re-chroming.
The production of such dyes, which already contain the chromium complex in the molecule, can be carried out in a wide variety of ways.
The present patent is a process for the preparation of a dye, which is characterized in that one 4-amines-sulfo-l. 8-naphthalic acid, which can be obtained by heating 4-aminonaphthalic acid or its anhydride with a mixture of sulfuric acid monohydrate and 20% oleum at 50 to 60 C, pouring the reaction product into water, suctioning off and washing neutral,
with a compound of the formula
EMI0002.0027
condensed in the presence of sodium bisulfite liquor.
<I> Example: </I> 60 parts by weight of 4-amino-sulfo-1.8-naphthalic acid, which is obtained by heating 4 aminonaphthalic acid or its anhydride with a mixture of sulfuric acid monohydrate and 20% oleum at 50 to <B> 60 ' </B> C, pouring the reaction product into water, suction and neutral washing is available,
or the corresponding amount of the anhydride and 65 parts by weight of a compound of the formula

are boiled for several hours in a solution prepared from 500 parts of sodium bisulfite liquor 40 'B6 and 150 parts of water. Everything is slowly going into solution.
When it cools, the dye separates out; it is filtered off with suction, freed from bisulfite by washing with sodium chloride solution, dissolved in water, precipitated as free acid with mineral acid and converted back into the sodium salt. The product obtained in this way is a yellow powder that dissolves in water with a yellow color. Acid baths are used to dye wool in real yellow tones; the chromium-plated dye is redder in color and has excellent fastness properties.
