Clockwork movement with device known as: "at constant force". The present invention relates to a clockwork movement with a device called: "at constant force", in which said device comprises a constantly loaded spring actuating the transmission train with a regulating member, a ratchet connected to said spring, held by a pawl with a fixed axis and actuated by a pawl mounted on a lever which is subjected to a return spring mounted on the frame, a wheel carrying stop members which cooperate with a stop lever to retain it and cams by which it gives impulses to the ratchet lever to charge the return spring.
This clockwork movement is characterized in that the aforesaid stop lever and ratchet lever cooperate, at least towards the end of the return stroke of the ratchet lever so that the latter releases the stop lever to release the wheel and receive from it an impulse each time it has driven the ratchet through a determined angle. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the clockwork movement according to the invention and two variants.
A motor spring, not shown, acts on the wheel 1, either directly or through other wheels. The wheel 1 meshes with a pinion 2, integral with the wheel 3, which meshes with the pinion 4. The latter is mounted between the frame and a bridge 5 and is secured to a disc 6 which has lugs 7, 8, 9 and 10, and the same number of cams 11, 12, 13 and 14. In the position shown, the lug 7 rests against a side of a lever 15 articulated at 16 on the frame and subjected to a spring 17 which it push towards disc 6.
A tree 23 carries, for example, a minute hand. It is integral with a wheel 28 which actuates the ordinary train of the clockwork movement formed by pinions and wheels 29, 30, 31, 32, 33; this latter wheel is an escape wheel which acts on an anchor, not shown, of axis 34 which cooperates with a balance 35.
A ratchet 27 is mounted on the shaft 23, so that it is free on it and connected to the wheel 28 by means of a spring. A pawl 37, mounted on the frame at 38, prevents it from moving back. Finally, a lever 19, free on the shaft 23, is subjected to a spring 36 fixed to the frame at 22. It carries a pawl 24 of axis 26 subjected to a spring 25, and has an arm 21 which enters the path. cams 11, 12, 13 and 14, as well as a sidewall 20 against which abuts a pin 18 fixed to the lever 15.
In the position shown in solid lines, the spring 36 is fully loaded; it pulls the lever 19 which drives the ratchet 27 by the pawl 24. The force is transmitted to the exhaust, determining the rotation of all the wheels of the train, which thus lets the sidewall 20 move to the left and push the stud 18. There comes a moment when the lever 15 leaves the lug 7. The disc 6 is released, so that the cam 11 gives a shock to the arm 21 of the lever 19 by pushing it against the spring 36 until outside its trajectory.
The pawl 24 then moves back on the ratchet and the sidewall 20 immediately lets the stud 18 advance again, so that the lever 15 is ready to receive the lug 8 when the cam 11 has abandoned the arm 21, and has taken the position of the cam 14, which puts things back in the position shown.
The spring 36 is chosen so that its bending varies little between the two ends of the travel of the lever 19.
A special shape is given to the cams 11, 12, 13 and 14 as well as to the arm 21, for their correct functioning.
The advantages of the device lie in the simplicity and robustness of the components. The advantage of a movement provided with such a device over those of known electric watches and clocks is that a running time of the same order as with a battery, for example a month, can be obtained by a large spring. -motor without the force applied to the escapement being weaker on the last day than on the first following full winding.
In fig. 2, the spring 17 is removed and the pin 18 is driven by the two sides 20 and 20a of a slot made in the lever 19a.
In fig. 3, the lever 15 of FIG. 2 is replaced by a lever 15a which has two arms, being pivoted at 16a and the slot of the lever 19a is made in its arm 21a between the axes 23 and 16a.
