Description
Process for the preparation of an agent for increasing the capillary activity of liquids. The present patent is a process for the preparation of an agent for increasing the capillary activity of liquids. The process is characterized in that n-dodecyl alcohol, a substance which converts an alcohol into a sulfuric acid ester, and pyridine are allowed to act on one another in approximately molecular amounts at elevated temperature and pressure.
The most advantageous embodiment of the process is carried out in such a way that first the pyridine with the substance converting an alcohol into a sulfuric acid ester, e.g. B. chlorosulfonic acid, treated and the resulting product can act on the Alko hol.
Example: 30 parts of chlorosulfonic acid are added to 80 parts of pyridine with good cooling and careful stirring so that the temperature does not rise above 20. Then 37 parts of n-dodecyl alcohol are added in small amounts at about 300 and the reaction product is heated to 45 for about 20 minutes after the alcohol has been completely introduced until a homogeneous paste is formed and a sample is placed in cold water ser clear solves. The mixture is now heated to 170-180 in a closed reaction vessel for about 4-5 hours. After cooling, the product is a uniform, light brown, fairly solid mass that is clearly soluble in water.
The mass can then be cleaned by rubbing it with ether, filtering off the residue, dissolving it in alcohol, removing the color from the solution with animal charcoal and reprecipitating it with ether.
The new product then forms a white, ointment-like paste that is easily soluble in water to form a highly foaming liquid with a high wetting effect. The aqueous solution has the property of promoting the formation of positively charged dispersions, while negatively charged dispersions precipitate. The product is quite resistant to concentrated mineral acids.
