Process for the preparation of an anthraquinone derivative. In the main patent, a process for the preparation of an anthraquinone derivative is given in which compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0004
with a chlorinating agent, e.g. B. chlorine or chlorates in the presence of hydrochloric acid, in the presence of water at temperatures above <B> 800 </B> C.
It has now been found that an anthraquinone derivative, which is also a valuable intermediate for the preparation of dyes, can be obtained by using compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0007
with a chlorinating agent, e.g. B. chlorine or chlorates in the presence of hydrochloric acid; treated in the presence of water at temperatures above <B> 80 '</B> C.
Both the free sulfonic acid and its alkali and alkaline earth metal salts can be used as starting material.
According to his analysis, the reaction product is the hitherto unknown 2-cyano-3-chloroanthraquinone, after crystallization from trichlorobenzene or pyridine it forms yellowish-white flakes that melt at 294 C; dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow color and give a green güpe.
<I> Example: </I> To a solution of 12 parts by weight of 2-cyananthraquinone-3-sulfonic acid sodium in 1000 parts by weight of hot water, after adding 120 parts by weight of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 75 parts by weight of sulfuric acid, 50 B6 is added at 95 to <B > 1000 </B> C in the course of a few hours a solution of 12 parts by weight of sodium chlorate in 80 parts by weight of water flow in with gentle stirring.
The solution soon becomes cloudy due to the separation of almost white, fine crystals. The reaction mixture is kept at 95-100 ° C. until the fil has entered a sample which has been filtered off while hot, upon addition of sodium chloride, there is no longer any precipitation of the starting material. May) sucks on it, washing with hot water and drying.
