Method for the quantitative separation of 2,3-dihalo- and 2,1i-dihalogen-4-amino-1-methylbenzene. The present invention relates to a method for the quantitative separation of a mixture of 2-halo-3-chloro- and 2-halo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzenes of the following general formulas:
EMI0001.0008
wherein X is a chlorine or a bromine atom.
If you treat 2-halo-4-acylamirio-1-alkylbenzenes in aqueous, neutral, weakly alkaline or acidic suspension with or without the addition of organic solvents or in organic solvents alone with chlorine or chlorine-releasing agents and saponify the resulting compounds, in this way a mixture of 2-halo-3-chloro- and 2-halo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzenes is obtained, the quantitative separation of which cannot be carried out with the usual, well-known means.
It has now been found that the 2-halo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzenes can in no way be sulfated with sulfuric acid, while the 2-halo-3-chloro-4-amino-l-methylbenzenes easily become Let sulfonate and, depending on the test conditions, form one or the other of the two possible sulfonic acids.
For example, the 2-halo-3-chloro-4-amino-l-methylbenzene-5-sulfonic acids are formed when the 2 halo-3-chloro-4-amino-l-methylbenzenes are mixed with concentrated sulfuric acid at a temperature of Treated about 170-200 C, or if one lets act on a solution of these compounds in concentrated sulfuric acid fuming sulfuric acid with such a content of sulfuric anhydride that the anhydride is in a molecular ratio to the sulfating compound.
We have also found that the sulfo group can easily be cleaved off again from the 2-halo-3-chloro-4-amino-1-ynethyl-berizole-5-sulfonic acids by heating with moderately dilute sulfuric acid using the customary methods.
The quantitative separation of the above-noted mixture of 2-halo-3-ohlor-4-amino-1-methylbenzene and 2-halo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-niethylbenzene can now be carried out in such a way that one on one Mixture of the two isomeric bases allows concentrated sulfuric acid to act, converts the unsulfated portion, namely the 2-halo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene sulfate, into the free base,
separates this from the 2-halo-3-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene-5-sulfonic acid formed and then cleaves off the sulfo group again from this latter compound.
EXAMPLES 1. 176 parts by weight of a mixture of 2,3-dichloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene and 2,5 dichloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene are heated to 170-200 ° C. with 300 parts by weight of monohydrate for 2 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture, which contains 2,5-dichloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene sulfate and 2,3-dichloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene-5-sulfonic acid, is poured into 1000 parts by weight of water, to deposit the connections.
From the separation of the sulfuric acid 2,5-dichloro-4-aniino-1-methylbenzene and the 2,3-dichloro-4-amino-1-methylberizole-5-sulfonic acid is completed by adding sodium chloride. The compounds precipitated in this way are then filtered off with suction and, after 150 parts by weight of soda has been added, the unchanged 2,5-dichloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene is driven off with superheated steam.
The sodium salt of 2,3-dichloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene-5-sulfonic acid remaining in the residue is filtered off with suction, introduced into 400 parts by weight of about 80% sulfuric acid and heated to 160-180 for 4 hours in order to split off the sulfo group C. After cooling, this mixture is poured into 1200 parts by weight of ice water and the sulfuric acid salt of 2,3-dichloro-4-arnino-1-niethylberizole is salted out. The base finite alkali is made free from this salt and it is distilled in a vacuum for cleaning.
The 2,3-dichloro-4-amirio-l-methylberizole melts after cleaning at 55-58 C.
2. 220.5 parts by weight of a mixture of 2-bromo-3-chloro-4-amino-1-ethylbenzene and 2-bromo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-diethylbenzene are in 400 to 500 parts by weight monohydrate with 80 Up to 100 parts by weight of fuming sulfuric acid with an anhydride content of 65% heated to 10-120 o C for 2 hours. After cooling, the mixture is poured into 1200 to 1500 parts by weight of water.
Sulfuric acid 2-bromo-5-chloro-4-amiriobenzene and 2-bromo-3-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene-5-sulphonic acid separate out. It is suctioned off, the press cake is stirred with 1900 to 1500 parts by weight of water, heated to 80-90 C and so much ammonia and burnt magnesia are added until the lactic acid reaction persists. About 800 parts by weight of an organic solvent, for example chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, tetrachloroethane or others, are then added.
The 2-bromo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene is taken up by the organic solvent, while the 2-bromo-3-chloro-4-amino-1-methylberizole-5-sulfonic acid as ammonium or Magnesium salt remains in the aqueous solution. The two layers are separated while hot in a separating funnel and the organic solvent is distilled off from one part to obtain the 2-bromo-5-chloro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene.
The other part, the aqueous solution of the 2-bromo-3-chloro-4- amino -1-methylberizole-5-sulfonic acid ammonium or magnesium is mixed with 100 to 150 parts by weight of sulfuric acid 66 B6 and heated without sucking off the precipitate for Cleavage of the sulfo group in the leaded autoclave for about 6 hours at 160-170 ° C. After the cleavage is complete, the still hot solution is clarified and the sulfuric acid 2-bromo-3-chloro-4-anino-1-methylbenzene crystallizes by cooling .
The base is freed from this sulfate with alkali and distilled in vacuo for cleaning.
