Description
Process for the preparation of a dye. It has been found that by joint oxidation of 1,3-di- (4'-methoxyphenylamino) -naphthalene-8-sulfonic acid and 1,4-phenylenediamino sulfonic acid, a dye which absorbs clearly on wool and silk is obtained,
which compared to the German patents 78497 and 206646 from 1,3-diphenyl- or 1,3-ditolyl-amirio-naphtaliri-8-sulfonic acid - and 4-amino-dimethylaniline-3-sulfonic acid is characterized by significantly better lightfastness . The oxidation is expediently carried out in a weakly alkaline, aqueous-alcoholic solution with oxygen in the air in the presence of ammoniacal copper oxide solution.
Example: 450 parts by weight of 1,3-di- (4'-methoxyphenylamino) -naphthalene-8-sulfonic acid are dissolved in 5000 parts by weight of 50% alcohol and soda neutrally, with a solution of 188 parts by weight of 1,4-phenylenediamine monosulfonic acid in 2000 parts by weight 50% alcohol and 53 parts of soda combined.
50 parts by weight of copper oxide ammonia solution, which corresponds to approx. 20 parts by weight of copper vitriol, are added to the solution; After a few hours, the formation of the dye has ended. It is suctioned off and, if necessary, crystallized from hot water.
The dye is a metallic, shiny, crystalline powder that is soluble in water with a violet color and dyes wool and silk in clear, violet, lightfast shades.
