Ce sélecteur comprend des moyens également commandés par ledit électro-aimant, qui fonctionnent simultané ment avec ledit cliquet pour retenir ledit or gane pas à. pas dans une position avancée pendant le changement de polarité du cou rant traversant ledit élcetro-aiman'c. Le sélec teur est également pourvu de moyens con nus pour ri-tenir F organe pas à pas .dans une position ava.ncé.e, prédéterminée, une paire de contacts étant disposée pour être engagée momentanément par un avancement ,dudit or- l;
Electrical control installation. This invention relates to electrical control installations.
In known control installations, a device, such as a high-current switch, located at a substation, can be controlled from the control station by initiating a series of operations which include the operation of a certain number of relays, selectors, etc., and to return this device to its original condition it is necessary to perform a similar series of operations. These installations are mainly used to change the position of a power switch, from an open position to a closed position or vice versa., And where intermediate positions of the controlled member are not required.
However, these installations do not allow the controlled organ to be adjusted in a precise manner, so that this organ can occupy any desired position, such as it can be determined by the various service requirements which arise for the device. controlled device as for example in hy dro-electric installations where the quantity of water passing through. turbines require well-defined tuning, or in a remote sub-plant, where the load on a generator may vary for some reason.
The object of the present invention is a control installation which does not have this drawback and which allows precise adjustments of a controlled member.
According to the invention, this installation comprises selectors which can be prepared by a characteristic series of pulses to receive others at times determined exactly by an operation carried out at the control station, the adjustment being obtained due to intervals between said other pulses, these pulses possibly consisting, for example, either in establishing or interrupting a current.
This installation may include one or more substations, each comprising at least one device to be controlled, such as for example a generator or a turbine, etc.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention. Fig. 1 of the drawing shows schematically an installation comprising a central station A and a remote station B comprising a generator which must be controlled; Fig. ? represents a part of a stepper selector in a determined position, and the fi. 3 shows it. same part of this selector in another position. The installation shown in fig. 1 is used to control the load of a generator, which can be accomplished by changing the resistance of the winding of the inductors of the. generator.
This installation comprises in the substation B the devices 1 and \ ?, which are represented as motors, the device 1 being the device for increasing the load, 2 the device for reducing the load. These devices are arranged so as to vary the. resistance 31 of the. generator 32 by means of gears 33 and 34 and a threaded shaft 35, actuating the friction contacts 36 and 37.
The central station A has two transmitting keys 3 and 4, which are arranged to control the device 1, respectively? The keys of the transmitter are arranged in a local circuit so as to actuate the relay 5 of the pole reversing type, which is arranged to print on line conductors 6 and 7 pulses of the alternating power of a current source 8 At station B. these pulses are printed to selectors such as 9 in order to actuate them to. one step before the closing of a circuit, the closing of this circuit activating a relay, such as relay 10 to start device 1. or 2. The device associated with device 1 is designated as generally by the number 30.
while the apparatus connected to the device \ _ 'is indicated in the drawing by the rectangle 11. The selectors indicated are of the type in which a step <B> to </B> step member is advanced by an actuating pawl, controlled by a polarized electromagnet and operating in response to the alternating pulses passing through this electromagnet, this pawl advancing said member step by step by a full step for each half cycle of current through said electromagnet.
This selector comprises means also controlled by said electromagnet, which operate simultaneously with said pawl to retain said organ step by step. not in an advanced position during the change of polarity of the current passing through said electro-magnet. The selector is also provided with means known to ri-hold F organ step by step. In a predetermined, ava.ncé.e position, a pair of contacts being arranged to be engaged momentarily by advancement, of said or- l;
stepping in response to subsequent pulses through said electromagnet. This type of selector which is found described, for example, in the Bulletin of the International Association of Congress of Railways, August 1922, page 966 et seq., Is well known, but any other suitable selector can be used. .
A key 12, located at station A, gives the final impulse to advance the arm 13 of selector 9 of station B by one step. This step is necessary to put the arm 13 in contact with the contact 7l. If the ignition of key 12 is interrupted at station A. the selector arm will not return to its normal position, but will return one step back, so that if key 12 is actuated again, the arm 13 will again establish contact with 14 to cause the operation of relay 1 () which again activates motor device 1.
These operations will be better understood by referring to fi-. ? and 3. In the fi-. 2, the selector mechanism is shown in the position it takes when the final impulse ceases, caused by key 3 or 4 of the transmitter of fig. 1. The frame 38: is in the neutral or non-working position, the contact arm 13 dragged by the wheel 311 is in a backward step called contact 11. The wheel 39 is held in place. in this position by means of the part 40, fixed to the wheel 39, and which is retained by the spring retaining member 41.
When the next pulse is sent through the selector windings (caused by the operating key 12 of fig. 1) the armature 38 assumes a position such as that shown in fig. 3. The arm 42 fixed to the frame 38 has two lugs 43 and 44. In the position shown in FIG. 3, the lug 43 has set the arm 45 in motion, so that the step-by-step pawl 46 fixed to the arm 45 engages one of the teeth 47, of the wheel 39 which moves one step so as to establish the contact between the arm 13 and the contact button 14.
The same operation would have occurred if the armature 38 had been attracted by the core of the other winding. In this case, the lug 44 would have. caused the movement of arm 45. When the impulse ceases (when the ignition to key 12 is interrupted, fig. 1) the armature returns to its neutral position, and the combined mechanism returns to the position indicated in fig. 2.
The operation of the installation is carried out as follows: It is assumed that one wishes to raise the load. Key 3 of the transmitter in fig. 1 is manipulated. As soon as the transmitter cam moves, contact is made between the cam and the contact arm 15 to close the following circuit: battery 16, conductor 17, contact arm 15, transmitter cam 3, conductor 18, winding 19, conductor 20 to the battery 1.6. The relay 19 is, therefore, energized and, in operation ,. attracts its two armor. At its left armature, it closes an appropriate circuit to operate the relay 21 which cuts the load of the battery 8 to avoid noises, beats, etc., which could be applied to the line by the load source.
In its right armature, relay 19 closes an appropriate circuit through relay 22 to make it work and, thus, connects battery 8 through the contacts and armatures of relay 5 to the transmission line. As the transmitter key continues to turn, contact is established and interrupted between arms 15 and 23 to alternately energize and de-energize relay 5 on the following circuit: battery 16, conductor 17, arm of contact 15; 23, lead 24, coil of relay 5, lead 20, to battery 16.
Since relay 5 is of the pole-reversing type, it applies, by switching on and off, pulses of alternating polarity on selector 9 of station B, coming from the current source, that is to say battery 8. This circuit is as follows: battery 8, make or break contact and left armature of relay 5, left armature and work contact of relay 22, line conductor 6, conductor 25, windings from selector 9, capacitor 26, conductor 27, line conductor 7, right armature and work or rest contact of relay 5, to battery 8.
The code transmitted by the key 3 advances the arm 13 of the selector to a position in which it is behind - one step from the engagement with the contact 14. The cam of the transmitter then completes its rotational movement. and returns to its initial position, in which the contact arm 15 is disengaged from the cam and also from the arm 23. Thus, the relay 19 is de-energized. The relays 21 and 22 are also de-energized, the relay 21 again connecting the charge source to the battery 8, and the relay 22 disconnecting the transmission devices from the line.
If key 12 of station 9 is now activated, it will produce the same effect as the first step in the operation of key 3 of the transmitter, i.e. relay 19 will be activated, which, at in turn, will actuate relays 21 and 22, as described above,. and for the same reason. However, the key 12 does not exert any control on the relay 5 and, thus, the current flows on the conductors 6 and 7 of the line 'in only one direction. This impulse commanded by the key 12 moves the arm 13 of the selector forward and engages it with the contact 14 to close a circuit from there. battery 28, by relay 10 on an appropriate circuit.
At its right armature, relay 10 closes a shunt circuit around capacitor 26 which will be charged by the continuously flowing current. If this shunt circuit were not arranged, current would stop flowing when capacitor 26 was charged, and selector arm 13 would move back from contact 14.
its left armature, relay 1.0 closes an appropriate circuit from. current source 29, to cause the operation of the load increasing device 1.
If the key 12 now breaks its circuit, the relay 22 opens the circuit through the selector windings and thus allows the selector arm 13 to move back one step breaking the excitation circuit for the relay 10, which, by de-energizing, opens the circuit for the r1iarge increase device 1. If desired, the. key 12 can be actuated again to activate device 1.
-According to the direct readings of the indicators required at station .1, the. load of station 13 can be adjusted very precisely by means of key 1.2. Once the load has been properly adjusted, the selector arm is returned to. its initial position by again pressing key 3 of the transmitter.
Since now the selector arm is not in its initial position, it will not be in. a stop point when the transmitter key has stopped transmitting, and the arm will therefore return to its original position.
If part 40 is taken to the. position shown in the, fi-. 3 before the selector electromagnet is de-energized, after 41 has fallen back under the spring action, the part 40 is engaged and the release of the selector is blocked. Delay if part 40 a. been advanced further before the release of the electromagnets, then, after their release, the ring 39 with the part 40 will take, a speed such, before meeting the member 41, that it will be removed by the 'inertia effect of ring 39, that is.
then free to return to its resting position.
The pulse code that the key 4 is able to transmit activates the selector controlling the load reduction device 2 indicated at 11. The operation is, for the rest, identical to. that described above with respect to the device for increasing the load.
This installation can be modified in different ways. to .accomplish the stated purpose, and the description given and the key; sin refer only to one of the applications of the invention.
