Les fig. 1 à 3 ont trait à la première forme d'exécution; La fig. 1 en est une vue en élévation (la plaquette support des axes étant en levée); La fig. 2 est le détail de l'arma.ge du barillet; La fig. 3 est un détail de l'interrupteur: La fig. 3a montre une autre forme d'exécution d'une pièce de l'interrupteur; Les fig. 4 à 7 ont trait à la deuxième forme d'exécution; La fig. 4 en est la vue en plan; La fig. 5 est la vue en plan du système interrupteur (position déclenchant l'oscilla tion);

Device for charging a mainspring and maintaining its tension substantially constant by means of an electric current. The object of the invention is a device for arming a mainspring and maintaining its tension substantially constant by means of an electric current employed intermittently.
This device is most particularly applicable to watch movements. It can be executed in two different forms: one using the clockwork movement to which it is applied, the other completely independent of said movement.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of a device according to the invention, applied to a clock.
Figs. 1 to 3 relate to the first embodiment; Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof (the axle support plate being raised); Fig. 2 is the detail of the barrel arma.ge; Fig. 3 is a detail of the switch: FIG. 3a shows another embodiment of a part of the switch; Figs. 4 to 7 relate to the second embodiment; Fig. 4 is the plan view; Fig. 5 is the plan view of the switch system (position triggering the oscillation);
Fig. 6 is the view of the same system at the end of the oscillation of the armature; Fig. 7 is a schematic elevation view, on a larger scale, of the entire system; Figs. 8 and 9 are the desar curves. Mage respectively of the mainspring of the clock and of the coil spring of the ratchet cocking the previous one.
As seen in fig. 1 to 3, on the contact axis d 'of the escapement train of the clock is placed a barrel d which contains a sliding mainspring, the plug of the latter being fixed to the axis d'. Which makes one revolution by hour .. This barrel carries a ratchet-shaped toothing and receives every minute, by the action of the current, the advance: of one tooth; however this barrel bears on its circumference fewer teeth than of minute, within an hour, in 60 minutes the result is an advance of one revolution plus an additional fraction, thus obtaining a gain in tension making it possible, for example, to make up for a winding delay.
The middle wheel o makes one revolution in eight minutes for example; and carries a star o "" attached to its axis. The branches of this star will be able to establish, by means of a special switch, described below, a periodic closing of the electric circuit.
The electromagnet ic has, opposite its poles, an armature b oscillating on an axis b '. The pole pieces tend by their shapes to show off the magnetic attraction. The frame b carries a crank pin e acting as a crank and moves with each oscillation a working pawl <I> a </I> in engagement with the barrel <I> d. </I> This ratchet cc is always days brought back, as well as the armature b, to rest position by a spring c strong enough to arm the barrel spring d with a tooth by its trigger.
(The return of the armature will obviously be all the more lively as the barrel spring is less armed.) A second pawl f superimposed on the first pi votes around the axis b 'of the armature and, under the The action of the spring g, acts as a locking pawl for the barrel. A ratchet system is thus formed on the same axis and, by the shape of the ratchets, held between two small plates, occupies a reduced space.
The oscillations of the armature are controlled by a switch which comprises a contact lever movable for the driver and pivoting freely on the axis b 'of the armature; on this lever constantly presses a slider i pivoting at j on an axis isolated from the mass. This wiper is made up of two parts, the conductive <B> the </B> part and the insulating and raised <I> 1 </I> part. It is easy to understand that the rest position of the contact lever l- is in <I> 1 </I> (insulator) and that its rapid drop in k (conductor) will correctly close the circuit.

<SEP> this <SEP> pa, the ity <SEP> gives <SEP> to the <SEP> spring <SEP> a very <SEP> bandage <SEP>
<tb> flexible <SEP> because <SEP> no <SEP> ara'êtalge <SEP> is <SEP> used. In order to constitute a seat device in the event that the winding mechanism accidentally stops in the closed position of the circuit, the wiper i is extended by a lever arm t which can be lifted when a pin passes. v at each turn of the star.
In this way, if the slider i is stationary in the contact position, this pin v raises it and cuts the circuit for a moment so that the pull of the poles on the armature no longer cancels out the force of the spring c.
One can consider as a variant of the present system a mechanism where the repeating device alone would be used for. maintaining the voltage with, simultaneously for example, periodic contact by the safety device described above; in this case, the lever 1t would be requested by a slight spring always bringing it back to the. contact position. The conductive and insulating 1 parts would have their planes inverted as can be seen in fi. 3a so as to. constitute a notch for "the retention of the lever h in the rest position.
It is easy to understand that the wise step of the pin <I> v </I> will lift the lever <I> t </I> of the slider i which will release the contact lever h. which will oscillate slightly under the action of its small spring. When the pin v escapes the lever t, it will fall on the fingertip in the contact position, an oscillation will take place and repeat as long as the armature comes back with enough force to pass the < B>, </B> rest position by flexing the stop spring r,
then rest and new contact again on the next passage of the pin v. We could also see several spinners, or a mechanism in which the repeating device would be used with the lifting systems defined, but with any number of arms, for example one. We would thus achieve a contact reset less frequent, but repeated several times quickly by the armor.
In the second embodiment which ('st shown in Figs. 4 to, 7, the crankpin e for actuating the pawl, working through a contactor lever h, provided for this purpose with a wide notch in <B> U. </B> In this way, this lever is only moved by the handle e to the extreme positions of the armature. On this contactor lever h constantly presses the wiper i which is provided with 'a conducting part k extended by a stopper k1 and which is itself isolated or earthed, so that the circuit is closed when the armature b is in the exact rest position (fig. 5).
The operation is as follows: With the contact established, the reinforcement b os wicks and the pawl has descended by one tooth. At the end of the oscillation, the crankpin e pushes the lever h and breaks the contact. The frame is then returned by means of the spring c and the pawl a which advances the ratchet of the barrel. The contact being again established, when the armature has regained its position (rest, the cycle begins again.
If we consider the unwinding curve of an ordinary barrel spring shown in fig. 8 in which the numbers of turns are on the abscissa and the voltages in grams at the circumference of the gold barrel given, it is noted that the decrease in voltage is substantially proportional to the number of turns.
We have intentionally excluded the portion of the unwinding curve where, by the effect of excessive winding, a sudden and uncertain variation in the tension is obtained when the turns are tightened and glued to the bung. Having, however, sought to produce with an ordinary spiral spring a rapid rise of the curve before the critical point where the turns are tight, the portion of the curve indicated in dotted lines has thus been obtained.
For this, it was added an extra long enough blade doing at least one turn; the latter is placed internally at the outer end of the res out of the barrel, it can be held by hooking; the leaf spring itself could also be folded inwardly over a sufficient length to directly form this counter blade. By this device, it is easy to understand the rapid tension and. additional amount obtained towards the last round of arming.
The curve of FIG. 9 is that of the disarming of the coil spring; the x-axis shows the tensions in tenths of a millimeter and the y-axis shows the tensions in grams. Only the useful portion was indicated, that is to say the extreme portion of the disarming. We see that this curve is almost horizontal, in particular. between 15 and 8 tenths, the voltage variation is very low, on the other hand the voltage drop will be very rapid from Bl to B when the turns start to rest on each other.
We will therefore use the rectilinear portion B2-B, lon gueur which corresponds to the stroke of the winding pawl.
For a good understanding of the operation, we will start from the moment when the spring of the barrel is disarmed; at this moment, the coil spring dominates, the armature is completely placed in the rest position, contact is established; armature oscillations will occur and the winding of the barrel spring will take place; it should be noted that the return of the frame will be. obviously the more lively that the barrel spring will be. less armed. The winding of the spring will continue by successive oscillations as long as the armature does not encounter too much resistance from the barrel and will return entirely to the rest position.
It will meet this resistance when the winding attacks the portion of curve A '' - A3 of fig. 8 and quickly the armature will no longer be able to return completely to rest, the contact will not be reestablished, hence the winding stop.
During the course of the cog, the res comes out of the barrel, an imbalance occurs and: the armature approaches rest by dropping the contact lever on the conductive plane, some oscillations of the armature occur, then new Stop when balancing the barrel spring and coil spring. The automatic repetition of these functions, as and when the gear train unfolds, maintains. Flexibly winding the spring. No abrupt stopping is used, and no passive mechanical function intervenes on the gear train for the control (re-contact.
