La fi.g: 1 est une section verticale de la machine complète destinée à envelopper des caramels; La fig. 2 est une élévation latérale d'un bras principal oscillant, montrant d'une fa çon plus distincte le logement .dans lequel se place le caramel, un couvercle articulé, un mécanisme de commande et les plieurs com binés à ce mécanisme; La fig. 8 est une élévation latérale mon trant le mécanisme de commande servant à amener le papier ou la feuille destiné à cons tituer l'enveloppe;
Machine for wrapping caramels, sugar cubes, etc. The invention relates to a machine for wrapping caramels, sugar cubes, etc. In this machine, the object to be wrapped is placed, at the same time as the sheet intended for wrapping it, in a housing of a part which moves intermittently; the various folding operations are carried out using folding machines, at least one of which is mobile, in combination with the de- placement of the aforementioned piece, the wrapped object being pushed out of the housing under the action of a piston.
This machine is preferably set up such that the moving part has no downtime in its movement -from the position where the object is placed in the housing until the moment when it is moved away from it. the action of the piston, which saves time.
In the appended drawing, there is shown schematically, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, and a variant of detail.
The fi.g: 1 is a vertical section of the complete machine for wrapping caramels; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a main swing arm, showing in a more distinct way the housing in which the caramel is placed, a hinged cover, a control mechanism and the folding machines combined with this mechanism; Fig. 8 is a side elevation showing the operating mechanism for feeding the paper or sheet intended to constitute the envelope;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the adjustable paper guide showing more clearly the devices for placing this guide in the desired position; Figs. 5 and 6 show in perspective, and FIGS. 7 and 8, in side elevation, different positions of the parts during the bending operations; Fig. 9 shows a planar section on which we see the devices intended to successively form the last folds; Figs. 10 and 11 respectively show, in side elevation and in plan, a distributor bucket.
In this figure, we see more clearly the crews of the elastic compressing rollers and the mechanism which actuates these rollers thanks to which the cara mel or the similar object, wrapped in its paper, is placed in intimate contact with it, so as to ensure the tightening of the folds after it has been expelled from the housing in the main arm; Figs. 12 to 16 relate to the aforementioned detail variant.
In all that goes. follow, it is assumed that the object to be wrapped is a caramel and that the envelope is made of paper.
Referring to fig. 1 of the drawings, it can be seen that the paper 1, in which the caramel must be wrapped, is wound on a roll placed on a support 2. The latter can turn in pads 3 and the paper passes from the roll under a bar 4 provided with arms 4a articulated at 5 to the device. The bar is constantly drawn downwards by the action of a spring 6 and thus keeps the paper 1 taut. The paper is raised and passes over a hollowed guide 7. The guide 7 is keyed on an axis 7a, the latter is threaded at one of its ends and carries a knurled wheel 9. By turning this wheel, the axis is adjusted in line. flax meaning; this axis is moved in the opposite direction by the spring 8 when the wheel 9 is unscrewed.
The adjustment device could also be constituted by trapping a flange 9a of the wheel 9 in the frame 9b of the apparatus, and by moving it with a collar on the other side. With this device, it is possible to do without the spring 8, since the wheel 9 rotating in any direction actuates the axis 7a in a desmo dromic manner.
After leaving the guide 7, the paper 1 passes between the rollers 11 and 12 (fig. 1). The roller 11 is fixed to the shaft 18 which is driven in an intermittent rotational movement by a pawl 13 (Fig. 3) which comes into contact with the teeth of a wheel 14 keyed to the shaft. The pawl 13 is articulated at 15 to the lever 16 and subjected to the action of the spring 17. The lever 16 can oscillate around the shaft 18 and is actuated by a rod 19 which is articulated by one of its ends 20 at the end. lever 16 and by its other end, at 21, eccentrically to the disc 22.
This disc is itself keyed on the main control shaft 23. The disc 22 is pierced with an elongated hole 24 in which the pivot 21 can be moved, which makes it possible to adjust the path of the rod 19 at will ( which has the effect of constituting a device making it possible to act on the intermittent rotational movement of the roller 11 which serves to bring the paper, so as to give the desired length to the paper intended to wrap the caramel). The roller 12 is kept pressed against the driven roller 11 (fig. 1). The roller 12 pivots at 94 in the arm 88 which is, in turn, hinged at 89 and which is subjected to the action of the spring 91.
When the pressure of the roller 12 is not necessary, its contact with the driven roller 11 can be broken by pressing down the tail 92 of the arm 88. A spring latch 93 fixed to the frame of the apparatus then comes. in contact with the tail 92 and keeps it lowered. This mechanism is necessary when the operation of the machine must be suspended for some time, for example during cleaning or during similar operations. The paper 1 is then fed to the knives 25 and 26 (FIG. 1), the length of paper cut by these knives at each stroke of the pawl 13 being sufficient to constitute an envelope.
The paper is constantly pushed forward by the rollers 11 and 12 to reach the knives 25 and 26; the roller 11 being operated in a desmodromic fashion and the roller 12 by friction as discussed above.
The main control arm 27 is articulated behind or near the rear of the apparatus between two supports or gussets suitable for a shaft or axis 28. The front end of the arm is in close proximity to the paper. 1, as can be seen clearly in the .fig. 2. The arm has the form of an angled lever, actuated by means of anti-friction rollers 29 and 30 located in various planes, by the twin cams 31 keyed on the main drive shaft 23.
These twin cams 31 control the arm in both directions in a desmodromic manner, which avoids any delay in the transmission of the movement, which delay could occur if a spring were used to effect the return movement. The arm can be removed immediately from the machine by simply removing the pin 28, since it is not linked to any part of the machine. This makes it very easy to carry out any cleaning or replacement which may be necessary.
The arm 27 has a notch 32 hollow s6e inside. This notch is recou vert by a jaw 33 articulated at 34 on the arm 27 itself. This jaw which forms a cover of the caramel housing is established so as to be able to be opened by raising the tension of a spring 35, in order to facilitate the introduction of the caramel 36 and the paper 1. The jaw 33 fits. lifts under the action of a lever 37 articulated at 38 to the frame and actuated by means of an antifriction ga let 39 which is supported by the action of the spring 42.
The roller 39 located at one end of the lever is held in contact with a cam 40 fixed to the shaft 41 of the device. This shaft is itself set in motion by the shaft 23, via the bevel gear 86, 87 (FIG. 1). The shape of this cam 40 obliges it. adjustable screw 45 screwed into one of the ends of the lever 37 to come into contact, at the desired moment, with a projection 43 - which is formed on the tail 44 of the cover 33, which has the effect of making the cover rotate on its axis and lift it.
The screw 45 constitutes a device by which the cover 33 can be opened to the desired amount, and the nut 82 serves to hold this screw 45 in position.
The caramel 36 and the piece of cut paper 1 are forced into the housing 32 by a piston 46, movable transversely to a strip 83 which transports the caramel along the trough 84. The strip 83 is actuated by a drum 85 (fig. . 1), which is fixed on the shaft 41 itself controlled by the main shaft 23, as has already been said, by means of the bevel gear 86, 87. The piston 46 (fig. 2) constitutes part of an arm 47, = which is integral with the sleeve 48 (which can pivot at 49), and with another arm 50. The latter is actuated by means of the antifriction roller 51, supported by the res out 52 , on a cam 53 attached to the main drive shaft 23.
The caramel 36 and the paper 1 thus being pressed into the housing 32, the jaw 33 of this housing is closed by the action of the spring 35. A certain quantity of paper protrudes at the end of the control arm. .27, sufficient quantity to complete the folding of the paper around the cara mel 36 and a certain quantity of thimble paper also passes on each side of this arm, this quantity being sufficient to complete the folds of the ends as seen on fig. 5.
The protruding parts are folded as follows: the portion 54 of the paper protruding from the end of the arm 27 is pressed against the adjacent side of the caramel 36 by means of the guide 55; the latter has a shape such that it follows the path of the end of the lever 27 and, during part of the downward movement of this lever, it acts as a fixed bender. The paper thus being partially folded around the caramel 36, the lever 27 continues its downward movement, while the protruding ends of the paper are gripped by two blades 56, these form the first folds, as is seen in fig. 6 of the drawing. Each of the blades 56 is attached to the fork-shaped head of an arm 58.
This latter is integral with the .manchon 59 which can pivot at 60 (fig. 2 and 6). The sleeve 59 carries another arm 61 also forming a body with it, which is actuated, by means of an anti-friction roller 62 supported by the spring 63, by a cam 64 fixed to the main control shaft. 23. When the arm 27 is lowered, the folders 56 remain motionless for a moment so that they meet the posterior points of the paper and that they fold them down forming the fold (FIG. 6). The cam 64 then comes into action and the pliers tilt back and pass along the ends of the caramel, applying the paper against these ends (fig. 6).
Everything happens so quickly that you hardly notice the period during which the folders are stationary. The main arm 27 continuing its downward movement, the ends of the partially folded envelope pass between the fixed folders 65, 66 disposed on each side of said envelope. These folders make the following folds, as can be seen in fig. 7: the fold of the right side of the end of the caramel being made first by the folder 65, then the fold of the left side being made by the folder 66.
Folder 65 preferably has the pointed shape shown in FIG. 7 because it was recognized that this was the best form to guide the folding of the loose paper at the ends, from the beginning to the end. When the main control lever 27 is at. in its extreme lower position, the partially enveloped caramel is projected into a distributor 67 (fig. 8) by an ejector piston 68, said piston penetrating into the housing 32 of the arm 27 as can be seen in FIG. 2.
The paper which protrudes at 54 (fig. 5) is completely folded over the top of the caramel by a cover 69 placed at the inlet of the distributor channel 67. The cover 69 can slide into slots 70 by compressing a spring 71 ( fig. 8), the cover 69 acting as a fixed folder. The paper is then completely surrounded by the caramel, and the folds of the protruding side parts are effected by two converging folding elements 72 and 73 (fig. 9) established by forming two converging slits in the cover 69, which converge at a point located off the axis so as to successively complete the last folds.
In the usual form of the folder, in which the elements 72 and 73 converge in the center of the cover 69, it can be seen that, if the side folds which are to be folded over the top of the caramel are longer than the half of the. width of this caramel, the tips of the pleats meet in the center of the lid, and these pleats cannot be completed in a fully satisfactory manner. Thanks to the device of the present invention, one fold is folded more quickly than the other and these various folds thus overlap exactly with one another.
These folding elements 72 and 73 function as fixed folding elements when the caramel is forced to follow the distribution channel 67 under the action of the ejector piston 68 (FIG. 9). The ejector 68 (fig 2) entering the cavity 32 is provided with a rod 74 sliding in a slide 75 arranged on the main motor arm 27. It is pushed outwards by an arm 76 so as to eject partially wrapped caramel when said caramel is brought to the ejection position.
The arm 76 is articulated at 77 to the frame of the apparatus and is organized so as to be controlled by a cam 80 acting on an anti-friction roller 78 supported on the cam by a spring 79. The cam 80 is fixed to the cam. main drive shaft 23 so that the upper end of the arm 76 acts on the inner end of the rod 74 so as to push it outward and eject the partially wrapped body, as well as it was said previously. A leaf spring 81 attached to the main control arm rests on the rod 74 with sufficient force to maintain the ejector 68 in the new position in which it is placed.
The dis tributor bucket 67 is fitted with spring-loaded compression rollers. These crews furnished with rollers (fig. 10 and 11) have the effect of ensuring intimate contact between the cara mel and the paper which envelops it when this caramel has been ejected from the cavity 32 made in the arm 27. The crews of rollers 96 arranged on the bucket 67 can be seen outwards in grooves 98 by tensioning the springs 97. They are fitted with rollers 90 which can turn on turrets 99.
The distributor bucket 67 is provided with four compression crews 96, 96, 100 and 101. The crew 100 can move upwards in the slides 103 by tensioning the springs 105 and it is provided with rollers 102 rotating on the journals 104.
