Compas.
Compass. The present invention relates to a compass intended for plotting curvilinear plane figures such as ellipses, characterized in that the plotting member is guided by a pattern.
The drawing gives, by way of example, an embodiment and a few variations of details.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof with various partial sections; Fig. 2 is a section along the line A-B of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a variation of a detail; Fig. 4 is a section along the line C-D of FIG. 1; Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are variations of details.
This compass comprises a centering point 1 supported by a support 2 so that it does not mark the surface on which the tracing is to be carried out. This centering tip 1 is fixed to a rod 3 around which a sleeve 4 can rotate.
To this rod 3 can be secured, by means of a nut 5, a boss fi which in the example has the shape of an ellipse and provided at its center with a suitable opening 7 for this fixing. This opening 7 communicates with a hole 8, intended to allow the rod 3 to pass when the template 6 must be removed or put in place on the rod 3. For these operations, the sleeve 4 must be removed from the rod 3, this is done after unscrewing the button 9, screwed at the end of the rod 3.
To the sleeve 4 is fixed an arm 10, along which can slide a carriage 11, provided with a chicken 12. This carriage 11 is coupled to a part 13 provided on the side of a rod 14, the end of which carries a bracket. 15 capable of sliding in a groove 16 provided in the rod 3.
Along the rod 14 can move a line puller 17, capable of being held to said rod by means of a known clamping device.
In the side of part 13 is housed a ball 18 intended to roll in a groove 19, provided on the side of the boss 6 and in which it is held by a spring 20, carried by the carriage I1 and whose ends support against the inner part of the limbus of the boss 6.
When you want to use this compass, you place it on the surface on which you want to make the line, taking care to center it by means of the point 1. Then, it will suffice to drive the line puller 17, first filled with ink, using chicken 12 which is rotated around pattern 6.
Depending on the position of the line puller 17 along the rod 14, a whole series of ellipses of different sizes can be executed and proportioned to the pattern 6.
Other bosses with different large and small axis ratios can be fixed as required on the rod 3.
In order to be able to vary at will the ratios of the axes of the ellipses to be traced, one embodiment of the pattern is represented by FIG. 3. The pattern consists, in this case, of a central part 21 which is fixed to the rod 3 in the same way as that indicated for the pattern 6. The blade 22 consists of a flexible blade. ratta song by arms 23, 24 and 25à the central part 21. On the arms 23 can be screwed chickens 26, for adjusting the length of the major axis of the boss. The rods 25 are retained by the end of the screw 27 screwing into the central part 21 so as to fix the small axis of the pattern. The rods 24 function as guides by sliding in suitable housings provided in part 21.
One can by the arrangement of these organs, modify at will the shape of the blade 22 and give it not only the shape of ellipses having variable axis ratios, but we can also give it the shape of eccentric figures such as those of 'ovoid.
The movement of the line puller 17 along the rod 14 can be regulated using a known adjusting screw device as shown in FIG. 5.
The movement of the part 13 around the boss 6 can be achieved by the embodiment shown in FIG. 6. A screw 28 is screwed into the rod 14 ', on the non-threaded part of which a roller 29 rotates which is driven by means of a chicken 30 screwed onto the end of the screw 28.
This roller 29 is kept pressed against the periphery of the pa tron 31 by means of a device shown in fi g. 7 and consisting of a spring 32 disposed in a caliper 33 provided at the end of the rod 14 'to slide in the groove 16 with which the rod 3 is provided, the end of this spring 31 pressing through the intermediary of 'a shoe 34 in the back of the groove 16.
