Cet appareil est caractérisé. par le fait qu'il comprend un support destiné à être fixé sur une planche à dessin, une règle-guide montée à pivotement sur ledit support, de ma nière à pouvoir tourner dans le plan du des sin, des moyens de blocage de la règle-guide par rapport au support, deux coulisseaux mo biles en translation le long de la règle-guide, chacun d'eux portant une règle à dessin per pendiculaire à la règle-guide et munie d'une graduation, les origines de ces graduations étant alignées sur un rayon passant par l'axe géométrique de pivotement de la règle-guide sur le support;

Apparatus intended to facilitate the perspective drawing of objects represented in two orthogonal projections. The present invention relates to an apparatus intended to facilitate the perspective drawing of objects represented in two orthogonal projections, for example a horizontal projection or plan view and a vertical projection or elevation view, both taken at the same scale:
This device is characterized. by the fact that it comprises a support intended to be fixed on a drawing board, a guide ruler pivotally mounted on said support, so as to be able to rotate in the plane of the sin, means for blocking the ruler -guide relative to the support, two movable slides in translation along the guide ruler, each of them carrying a drawing ruler per pendicular to the guide ruler and provided with a graduation, the origins of these graduations being aligned with a radius passing through the geometric axis of pivoting of the guide rule on the support;
finally an alidade also pivoted on said support on the same geometric axis as the guide rule, so as to be able to rotate also in the plane of the drawing and having a radial side passing through this axis, the intersection of the latter with the plane of the drawing materializing the center of projection on a reference plane perpendicular to the projection plane.
It is thus possible to bring the origin of one of the graduated scales into coincidence with the horizontal projection of a point of the object to be drawn, and to place the origin of the second scale on the trace of the table on the horizontal reference plane, so that the point in question can be brought down on the horizon plane, guided by the. first graduated ruler, the other graded ruler indicating directly, by its intersection with the radial side of the alidade passing through said folded point, the perspective dimension of the chosen point of the object.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.

Figs. 6 and 7 show in plan and in elevation an auxiliary center.
Fig. 8 represents an auxiliary alidade. Fig. 9 is a plan view of the apparatus attached to a drawing board, this view again showing a perspective drawing made by means of the apparatus.
The device includes a cast aluminum support designated by the general reference S. This support includes a gooseneck 1, the lower end of which carries a tightening screw 2 with control handle 3 and support plate 4 mounted on a ball joint 5. <B> A </B> the opposite of the screw 2, the support has a base 6 with a flat lower face intended to be applied on a drawing board 7 shown in phantom in FIG. . 1.
Two lateral knurled head screws 8, engaged in threaded housings 9 of the support, are each provided with a point 10 intended to pierce the sheet of drawing paper, to embed itself in the board 7 and to perfect the locking of the support S on the drawing board 7.
At a certain distance from the gooseneck 1, the support S has a cylindrical housing 12 in which pivots with gentle friction a base part 13 secured, by two bolts 14 and nuts 15, to a guide rule 16. Concentrically to the housing 12, the support S is hollowed out by a vertical bearing 17 @ in which an adjustment tube can turn 18. A control wheel 19, resting on an axial stop 20 of the support, can be blocked on the tube 18 by means of a locking screw 21 having a polygonal hole for the introduction of a tightening key not shown. A threaded radial perforation 22 of the support S receives a locking screw 23, thanks to which the tube 18 can be immobilized in the support.
The tube 18 has, at its upper part, an axial perforation 24 concentric with the housing 12 and serving as a guide to a central axis 25 integral with a cylindrical lower part 26 engaged with gentle friction in the tube 18. This part 26 carries , at its base, a flat stopper in the form of a circular segment 27 as well as a circular pivoting projection 28.
The central axis assembly, composed of elements 25, 26, 27 and 28, constitutes a stop pivot concentric with the cylindrical housing 12 and having a common geometric axis <B> A -A. </ B > An alidade 30, the rounded end of which 46 is visible in fig. 2 and 3, has a circular opening 31 intended to surround the pivoting projection 28, so that the alidade can pivot about the central axis 25-28. The central axis 25 carries at its upper end a radial pin 33 engaged with a helical cam 34 adjoining a cylindrical part 35 on which is fixed a hollow adjustment knob 36.
A coil spring 37 is compressed between the upper part of the adjustment tube 18 and the shoulder 38 existing between the upper part 25 and the lower part 26 wider of the central axis 25-26. This spring 37 tends to push the stop pivot 25, 26, 27, 28 against the drawing board 7 by applying the alidade 30 to it. When the knob 36 is turned in the direction of the arrow K (fig. 2), the pivot 25-28 is moved away from the plate 7, which releases the alidade 30.
A rotation of the button 36 in the opposite direction of the arrow K obviously has the effect of tightening the alidade 30 on the drawing board 7 by the action of the axial stop 27.
The tube 18 is provided with an end shoulder 40 engaged in a corresponding annular groove of the base part 13, which maintains the latter in the correct axial position. The tube 18 is cut as follows. a hooking lan 42 shown in dotted lines in FIG. 1. A ribbon-shaped, spiral-shaped compensating spring 43 is inserted into an annular housing 44 of the base part and applied by its outer end against the cylindrical wall of this housing, while its other end is hooked to the tongue. 42. By turning the adjusting wheel 19, the tension of the compensating spring 43 is changed.
When this tension is adjusted to the desired degree, the adjustment tube 7 8 is blocked by tightening the screw 23.
The bolts 14 for fixing the guide rule 16 to the base part 13 have under the rule 16 a circular head 45; the arcuate end 46 of the alidade 30 is tan gente with the circular heads 45.
The apparatus comprises two slides 47, 48 movable in translation along the guide rule 16 (FIG. 9). The slide 47 carries a ruler 49 in transparent material perpendicular to the guide ruler 16 and provided with a graduation in millimeters 50. Similarly, the slide 48 carries a ruler with transparent pattern 51, longer than the rule 49, and perpendicular to the guide rule 16 and having a graduation in milli meters 52.
The respective origins of the gra duations 50 and 52 are aligned on a radius passing through the intersection 0 of the geometric axis A-A with the drawing board 7, this intersection materializing the center of projection on the horizontal reference plane.
Each slide consists of a slide with parallel plates 53, 54 fixed by three axial stop screws 55, 56, 57. The rods of the screws 55 and 56, smooth over part of their length, constitute fixed pivots on which two guide rollers 58, 59 are mounted. Two movable rollers 60 and 61, located opposite the rollers 58, 59, are mounted on two pivots 63, 64, the ends of which are guided in parallel buttonholes 65, 66. in the parallel plates 53, 54.
The screw 57 is located halfway between the buttons 65, 66; its smooth, reinforced part is in contact with the middle of a support spring 68 whose curved ends 69, 70 partially turn the rollers 60, 61. The four rollers 55, 56, 60, 61, opposite two to two, are resiliently applied against opposite parallel edges of the. guide rule 16, by the action of the spring 68 on the pair of gaets 60 and 61. This device allows .d'obtaining precise guiding of the slides 47 and 48 along the guide rule 16.
The apparatus described is completed by three identical centering pieces 75, made of transparent material, provided with steel spikes 77 which allow them to be fixed in one. determined point of a drawing. Two perpendicular axes 78, 79 are traced on the centering pieces and indicate the center of rotation, that is to say the center of the circular bearing surface 80 on which the alidade 30 or an auxiliary alidade 81 can be mounted with circular perforation 82 (fig. 8). These accessories facilitate the construction of a drawing requiring the presence of an axis of rotation for one or the other of the alidades.
The apparatus described is used as follows: Either to represent in perspective a rectangular prism of which we know a horizontal projection Ai BI <I> Ci </I> Di and a vertical projection <I> A2 D2 </I> H2 <I> E2. </I>
The support 8 is attached to the upper edge of the drawing board 7 for convenience. The intersection of the geometric axis A-A with this plate 7 materializes both the center of projection 0, and the eye of the observer for whom the representation in perspective must be carried out.
The line h simultaneously represents the trace T of the projection table on the horizontal plane passing through the eye of the observer and the intersection h of the table, assumed to be vertical, with the horizontal plane passing through the center of projection.
The painting is a vertical plane on which the perspective drawing is performed. As in the so-called Monge method, this table is folded down onto the horizontal plane passing through the center of projection, by pivoting around the trace T.
The horizontal projection of the prism Ai B1 C1 D1 being reproduced in a suitable position with respect to the trace T, we carry out the central projection from 0. of the main points <I> A 'B' C 'D' </ I > from the plan view - using alidade 30. This last presents. a guide edge or radial side which materializes the projecting ones. Next, we trace the verticals passing through the points of intersection of these different projection rays with the horizon line h.
For each point of the projection in plan, we proceed as follows:, We bring the zero of the graduated rule 50 in coincidence with A 'and finally the zero of the rule 52 in coincidence with the intersection of the radius of projection -and the horizon h. The dimension c !. is then measured on the elevation view of the prism and transferred to the graduation 50. The radial side of the alidade 30 is then brought to the end of a is determined on the graduation 52 a length a 'which is folded with the compass on the vertical passing through the zero of the graduation 52 in Ap, perspective dimension of point A.
We thus obtain the perspective Ap from point A ..
By a graphic construction similar to that which has just been described for point A, we obtain the correct perspectives of the other points of the prism, some of which are represented in CpDp In C-P Hp.
To obtain the vanishing points, one of which goes beyond the limits of the drawing in the case of FIG. 9, we lead from 0 straight lines parallel to two main directions of the prism. A line <I> OF </I> parallel to the <I> DC </I> side of the prism intersects the horizon line h at the vanishing point F.
To quickly draw up a perspective sketch, a center 75 will be made to coincide with F which will be used as the axis of rotation for the auxiliary alidade 81. With the vanishing point method, as long as they are accessible , we will be able to determine a certain number of points in perspective without having recourse to their dimension.
To quickly draw a perspective sketch, a center 75 will be made to coincide with F which will be used as the axis of rotation for the alidade 30. In certain cases, more precisely for the interior perspectives, the center will be used. auxiliary alidade 81.
