Apparatus for establishing perspectives. The object of the invention is an apparatus for establishing perspectives.
It is characterized by the combination of a support intended to receive a geometrical view giving two coordinates of the object to be put in perspective, an amount resting on the support and capable of being brought onto it at different points. of the geometric view, of a slide which can be moved along the upright and be brought on it at places corresponding to the third coordinate of the various points of the geometric view, of a foot connected to the support and having a cardan joint, with a rod carried by the cardan joint and directed by the slide, all in such a way that by bringing the mon both on the support to the place corresponding to a given point of the object on the geometric view, by bringing the slider to the location of the upright corresponding to the third given coordinate,
the rod indicates on a table the point corresponding, in the perspective to be established, to the given point of the object.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus.
Figs. 1 and 2 are a perspective elevation and a plan; Figs. 3 to 13 show details on a larger scale.
The support mentioned is constituted in this embodiment by a table i (fig. 1, 2, 5, 6), the plate 2 of which, quite flat and quite horizontal, is intended to receive a geometric view 4 of the object. to put in perspective, a building 3 for example; the geometric view is here a plane giving as a result two coordinates of each point of the building in a system of rec tangular coordinates.
The upright 5 (fig. 1, 2, 3, 4) comprises a heavy base plate 6 which can be moved on the plate 2 and be brought at will to each of the points of view 4; it has a mark constituted, for example, by one of the angles 6a of the lower face; this coordinate system must then coincide with the desired point of the plane. It is integral with an actual upright 7, vertical, along which a slide 8 can be moved which can then be fixed at one point, at any point, thanks to a clamping screw 9.
The slider receives one of the ends of the rod 10; it can occupy two different positions in plan with respect to the upright itself called 7; to each of them corresponds a mark of the plate 6; its stroke is limited by two cleats 11, 12 (fig. 3 and 4) capable of being moved on the body 7 and of being immobilized on the latter by clamping screws 13.
The upright 7 carries a strip having a graduation 14 making it possible to easily bring the slide 8 to the height corresponding to the third coordinate of each of the points of the object; the strip is removable and has, for example, either - equidistant divisions in m, cm, or marks indicating the height - of the main points of the building 3.
The foot 15 of the rod 10 (fig.1, 2, 5, 6) comprises a base 16 in a lying U, one of the side branches; 17, is supported on the upper face of the table top 2 and the other side branch of which, 18, is traversed by a clamping screw 19 - whose free end rests on the underside of the plate 2 ; under these conditions, it can be fixed anywhere on the edges of this plate.
In the longitudinal part 20 passes, with gentle friction, a column 21 housed in a split sleeve integral with 20 and which can be strongly pressed by a knurled and threaded neck 25 against this column 21 which can thus be immobilized at various heights with respect to the tray 2; side projections 24, 26 of 21 limit the movement thereof.
The column 21 carries at its upper end a part 27 (see also FIG. 7) in the form of a pinion chamfer, the rod 28 of which freely penetrates into it and the head 29 of which rests on it; in this rod 28 is formed an annular groove 30 into which penetrates the tip of a screw 31 passing through the wall of the column 21; the part 27 can therefore turn freely, but cannot separate from it. Said part 27 is integral with a fork 22 provided with horizontal pivots 23 carrying a sheath 32 receiving the verge 1.0. The piece 27, the fork 22, the pivots 23 thus form an articula tion. the gimbal.
The rod 10 (fig. 1, 2, 8, 9) comprises a body consisting of a thin tube 36 terminating at one -of its ends by a sleeve 37 of greater thickness and enclosing several rings of fixed guide 38, 39 in which can slide with greasy friction an inner tube 40 of small thickness and provided at one of its ends with a bush 41 of greater thickness.
The sleeve 41 is provided with a hook 42 which is held in place by a spring 43 and a screw 44 and the spout 45 of which is housed in a cavity 46 of the tube 36 and .of the ring 38: The two tubes 36, 40 can thus .être immobilized at will to their position corresponding to their minimum total length. On the other hand, they can be maintained in various relative positions by a screw locking device 101.
The bush 41 bears, opposite the hook 42, a hook 47 enabling it to be fixed in a .douille 48 of the slide 8 of the upright 5 (fig. 1, 2, 3, 4). The sleeve 48 is in turn carried by horizontal pivots 49 of a fork 50 capable of pivoting about an axis 51 of this slide 8: The pivots 49 and the axis 50 constitute the axes of a .cardan articulation. connecting rod 10 to said slide 8. This sleeve 48 is open to the side and can slide on tube 36 of rod 10 when tube 40 is completely in the latter, so that the upright 5 can be brought in. in the immediate vicinity of the sheath 32 of the support 21.
In the sleeve 37 of the tube 36 can smooth a thin tube 52 which can be immobilized at various axial positions thanks to the fact that a split part of the sleeve can be strongly clamped on it by means of a knurled ring 37a and threaded (see also fig. 8). A tube 56 slides in the tube 52, provided with a ring 5.3 to which is fixed a coil spring 54, bearing on a part 55 of 56 to cause this tube 56 to exit from the left to the right of the tube 52. A tube 56a in turn slides in the tube 56 and is provided with a ring 57, an outer ring 58 and a coil spring 59 on the other hand attached to the part 55 to take it out of the tube. 56.
Inside the tube 56a is a mechanical pencil 60. This comprises a tube 61 sliding in the tube 56a and enclosing a slide 62, the lead 63 of which comes out at 64 inside a trunnion cap. conical 65 pierced with an opening for its passage; between the cap 65 and the ring 57 is a coil spring 66 pushing the first forward.
A wire 67 (see again Figs. 1, 7, 9) is connected by a spring 68 to a finger 69 of the cap 6.5, passes through guides 70, 71, 72 of said cap, rings 57, 53, follows the rod 10 to the column 21, passes through an internal groove 73 of the sheath 32 and comes within reach of the operator's hand; it makes it possible to remove the thin 63 from the table, then to let it come back on it under the action of the various resources to mark a point on this table.
The tube 56a may contain, instead of the mechanical pencil 60, a dry point 74 (fig. 9) to which the wire 67 is attached at 69. The ring 53 of the tube 52 carries a hook 77 acting on the flange 76. to hold it in place, despite the action of the various springs, and capable of sliding on it when it is moved from right to left using the wire 67 to then retain it again. When the rod 10 has been brought to the desired position, a point can be marked by a hole on the board by releasing the point 74 from the hook 77, then bring it back and immobilize it again by this hook 77.
The same hook 77 can also act on a posterior flange of the cap 65 (fig. 8) of the pc> rbëtrminee.
So that the lines given by the lead 63 are very clear, when the rod 10 has a strong obliquity with respect to table 99, the following device has been provided: A transparent washer 80 (fig. 11 and 12), made of celluloid for example , is intended to slide on the board; it is integral with a metal annular frame 81 provided with a spring 82 which is slipped over the cap 65 of the mechanical pencil.
The lead 63 of the latter passes through the central openings of the washer 80 and of the frame 81 and thus slides more easily on the paper, resulting in greater clarity of the lines.
When we want to use various elements of the embodiment shown as pantograph, is introduced into the socket 41 of the tube 40 (fig..8) a; tube 90 (fig. 13) in which a first tube slides, 91, enclosing a second tube, 92, integral with a part 93 ending in a sphere 94 of small diameter, thanks to which we follow by hand the lines where we note the points of the drawing to be reproduced in larger or smaller.
95 is a viewfinder fixed to the column 21 (FIG. 6) and the use of which will be mentioned below.
The operation of the above form of execution is as follows: It is a matter of putting into perspective a building 3 for which there is a plane 4 and the dimensions of its various points above the plane 4.
We set up the vertical table 99; on which a sheet of paper is fixed to receive the perspective view; the scale of the perspective view varies depending on the distance from the gimbal 23-28 to the board @ 99; we bring the pivots 23 of the gimbal 23-28 of the column 21 to the height corresponding to that chosen for the eye of the spectator and we fix them there, we have the plane 4 on the plate 2, we introduce the sleeve 41 of the tube 40 of the rod 10 in the socket 48 of the slide 8, where it is held by the hook 47. The zero of the graduation 7 is placed at the height of the center of the gimbal 23-28.
Once these arrangements are made, the perspective can begin. We act on the wire 67 -so as to remove the lead 63 from the table; the upright 5 is brought on the plan to the location of the point whose position in perspective is to be determined, then the slide 8 on this upright 5 to the division of the scale corresponding to the height of the point in question. If we then leave the springs of the rod free to act by releasing the wire 67, the lead 63 is applied on the sheet of paper of table 99 by increasing the resistance of the spring 82, in the right corresponding exactly in the perspective to the chosen point.
The same is done for a second point, a third, etc., until there are enough points on table 99; all that remains then is to connect them by straight or curved lines to complete the perspective view 98 of the building 3. Thanks to the rod 10, the length of which varies automatically according to the needs and to the two joints at the car dan 23-28, 51-49, the mine 63 follows without difficulty the movements communicated to the foot 6 and to the slide $ of the upright 5. On the other hand, the washer 80 facilitates the sliding of the rod 10 on the table leaf 99.
If we want to join two points of the perspective by a horizontal or vertical straight line, we can just as easily leave the lead 63 in contact with the table 99, or move the foot 6 of the upright 5 along the corresponding line of the plane without modifying the height of the slider 8, or move the slider 8 along the upright without causing the latter to move. By limiting the stroke of the slide 8 in the second using the cleats 11, 12,. vertical lines located between the same height dimensions can be drawn very quickly, for example the lines of the jam bages belonging to the windows of a floor.
To facilitate the preparation of the perspective view, the dimensions of the height of the various points of the building 3 below the horizon line can be entered on graduation 5: the perspective is then drawn upright, to its true position. The procedure is analogous to work with a dry point 74.
By tilting the table 99, one obtains views in perspective plunging or ceiling. For fully ceiling views, for example a dome seen from below, the elevation of the dome is placed on the plate 2 and the slide 8 is moved according to the horizontal distances from the various points of the dome to a plane. - given reference.
We also obtain, in the simplest way, the outline of the reflections in the water, in a mirror.
We realize from the above that putting the object in perspective takes place in a very simple way, without having to have knowledge of perspective.
When the object to be put in perspective contains in elevation complicated curves, an important decoration, it takes a long time to put them in perspective point by point. In this case it is possible to fix against the upright 5, at the desired height, a board bearing the elevation of the curves, of the decoration on the same scale as the plane 4 and arranged following the trace of the vertical plane containing them on the horizontal plane 4; the posterior end of the shank 10 is then released from the gimbal 51-49, it is fitted with a special point, similar. to the point 93-94 -de fig. 13, by means of which one follows the curves, the decoration, which are thus reproduced in the perspective view.
Partial or total panoramic perspective views can also be obtained by using a table having in plan the shape of an arc of a circle, the center of which is formed by the gimbal 23-28.
Various elements of the embodiment described as a pantograph can be used. For this purpose, the drawing to be reproduced is placed on a vertical board parallel to the board 99; the tube 91 of FIG. 13. In the socket 41 of the tube 40 of FIG. 8; we follow the lines of this drawing with the help of the sphere 94. We obtain in this way on the table 99 an exact reproduction, without putting into perspective, on a scale depending on the distances between the two tables and the gimbal 23- 28.
If we want to quickly set up any subject on the table 99 from nature (model, portrait, etc.), we have a vertical transparent wall, a window, a two-way mirror for example, on the opposite side. of Table 99 with respect to the gimbal 23-28; the object is placed behind the wall. The operator, looking through the viewfinder 95 (fig. 6), follows the outline of the object as it appears on this wall by means of the sphere 94 (fig. 12) and thus reproduces this outline on the table 99.
It is also possible to put in perspective on the table 99 an object in kind placed on the plate 2 - of the table 1 by bringing the sphere 94 of FIG. 13 at the various points of this object, the position of which is to be fixed at 99.
