Abstract

L'invention porte sur une pile à combustible comportant un empilement d'éléments dont l'un au moins est un détecteur présentant au moins une dissymétrie structurelle par rapport aux autres. Ladite dissymétrie peut par exemple consister en une réduction de la surface à activité électrochimique ou de la charge électrocatalytique, en une modification du champ de flux anodique ou cathodique, en une composition électrocatalytique différente ou en une modification de la configuration du champ de flux de refroidissement. L'élément détecteur fonctionne sensiblement dans les mêmes conditions que les autres éléments de la pile, néanmoins, la modification d'une condition particulière de fonctionnement de la pile y entraîne une réponse électrique ou thermique, de préférence une variation de tension, qui n'apparaît pas simultanément dans les autres éléments, l'élément détecteur peut ainsi détecter des états non désirés, et sa réponse peut servir à déclencher des actions correctives. On peut placer dans une pile plusieurs éléments détecteurs de spécificité différentes. En l'absence de conditions non désirables, l'élément détecteur fonctionne comme un élément normal de production de courant de pile à combustible.
