Abstract
"MéTODO, APARELHO, INSTALAçãO DE FABRICAçãO DE VIDRO, E, MéTODO PARA REFORçAR UM ARTIGO DE VIDRO". A invenção diz respeito a um método e aparelho para reforçar o vidro. Um método de acordo com um aspecto da invenção aumenta a resistência do vidro aplicando íons de potássio na superfície de um artigo de vidro, a superfície estando pelo menos na temperatura do ponto de recozimento do vidro, e em seguida mantendo a temperatura do vidro entre a temperatura do ponto de escoamento do vidro e cerca de 150<198>C abaixo da temperatura do ponto de escoamento pelo menos por cerca de cinco minutos para promover uma reação de troca de íons mais eficiente. Em uma modalidade, os artigos de vidro podem ser imersos em um banho de sal para aplicar os íons. Em uma modalidade alternativa, os artigos de vidro podem ser pulverizados com sal de potássio fundido para aplicar os íons. Em decorrência dos métodos da invenção, os artigos de vidro tratados podem ter a resistência aumentada provendo-se uma maior tensão superficial, ou podem conter menos vidro sem nenhuma mudança na resistência, comparada com o mesmo artigo de vidro não tratado.
