<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The cables used in many fields and in particular on boats must in certain circumstances or after use be more or less wound on drums. The drum on which the cable is wound is generally driven by a winch. So that the cable winding is regular, that is to say so that all the turns of the cable on the drum are contiguous in each bed, the cable to be wound up passes through a cable guide running in front of the drum alternately in one direction and in the other.
The cable guide advances at a speed depending on the diameter of the cable, that is to say it advances by a length equal to the diameter of the cable during the winding of a turn on the drum. The forward speed must be rigorous to obtain a perfect winding.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
However, it often happens that a. given diameter, which imposes the travel speed of the cable guide, or replaced by a cable of different diameter.
If the replacement cable has a diameter smaller than that for which the cable guide is intended, the latter advances too quickly and the turns wound on the drum will not be contiguous; the breaths of a bed will get stuck between those of the bed immediately below when a traction exerted on the cable. If the replacement cable has a diameter greater than that of the initial cable, then the cable guide advances too slowly and the successive turns will overlap which again causes some turns to jam when traction is carried out on the cable. It is then necessary to make significant efforts to free the stuck turns when you want to unwind the cable; if we succeed in producing this release, we almost certainly deteriorate the strands which reduces the longevity of the cables.
The present invention, which aims to eliminate this drawback, consists of a dis.positif making it possible to code the speed of progression of a cable guide to adapt it to the diameter of the cable to be wound.
The cable guide is mounted on a support running along a shaft which, according to one characteristic can be driven at different speeds by the action of rotating means mounted on clutch systems on a shaft set in motion from from the rewinder drum to the intervention of a driven wheel also fitted with a clutch system; the clutch systems for the drive means and the driven wheel
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
obey a single command.
According to a particular embodiment, the winding drum drives by a control wheel mounted on a clutch system, an auxiliary shaft carrying toothed wheels of different diameters, mounted on systems that can be disengaged by the single control and can separately transmit their movement to the machine. 'shaft carrying the cable guide.
According to one characteristic, the single control acts simultaneously on all the clutch systems of the wheels of the auxiliary shaft so that only one of these is engaged while all the others are disengaged; in addition, the auxiliary shaft is also provided with a handwheel which comes into action when the general control wheel is disengaged.
The present invention will be more easily understood from the following description of the appended drawings which relate to an embodiment given by way of illustration only.
In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a partial schematic view, in perspective, of a device for controlling the movement of a cable guide executed according to the invention.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 are partial views in axial section through the auxiliary shaft, showing the respective positions of various members for three different speeds.
In figure 1, it can be seen that, on the winding drum 1 which receives its movement by a drive shaft 2, of any motor not shown, the cable 3 is wound up
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
between the flanges. The cable is wound up by means of the cable guide 4, the rollers 4a of which are mounted on the support 4b which runs on the bearing surface 5a of the shaft 5.
This bearing surface 5a being provided with two threads in opposite directions, one left 5b and the other right 5c, by the rotation of the shaft 5, the cable guide moves alternately to the left and to the right; the displacement in each direction is equal to the distance between the flanges of the drum. The shaft 5 is set in motion by one or the other of the toothed wheels 6 and 7 wedged on the said shaft and which are driven by chains 6a and 7a respectively in relation to the toothed wheels 8 and 9 mounted on a hollow shaft 10 from which they separately receive the movement by separate clutch systems which will be described later; it should now be noted that the speed of rotation of the shaft 5 and hence the forward speed of the cable guide 4 in one direction or the other depends on the transmission ratio of the toothed wheels 6, 8 and 7, 9 .
The hollow shaft 10 is set in motion directly by the drive shaft 2 which is provided with a toothed wheel 11 on which passes the transmission chain 12 transmitting the movement to the control toothed wheel 13 mounted on the shaft. hollow 10, on a clutch system described below.
In Figures 2, 3 and 4 appear the clutch systems of the toothed wheels 8 and 9, of the control wheel 13 and of a handwheel operable by hand.
It can be seen that the control wheel 13 is mounted on a nozzle 13a, itself carried by the hollow shaft 10; wheel has claws 13b (Figure 2) on one of its sides.
In the position drawn in Figure 3, these claws 13b cooperate with the claws 14a of the sliding sleeve 14 subjected to the spring 15 bearing on the ring 16 wedged on 10.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In this position the shaft 2 drives the wheel 11, the chain 12 and the wheel 13; its claws 13b the latter drives the sleeve 14 slidably mounted on two opposite wedges 10a, on the shaft 10; the sleeve is provided with two opposed grooves 14b in which the ends of the pin 17a fixed in the control rod 17, which can be actuated by the lever 18 (FIG. 1), are housed. The sleeve 14 drives by its wedges 10a and the spindle '17a the shaft 10 and the rod 17. At the end of the shaft 10 is placed the nozzle 8' which carries the toothed wheel 8 having claws 8b with which claws cooperate 19a of a sleeve 19 sliding on two opposite shims 10b on the shaft 10.
This shaft 10 drives the sleeve 19 by the opposite wedges lOb on which the sleeve 19 slides. The claws 19a act on the claws 8b, and the wheel 8 is set in motion (Figure 3). The sleeve 19 is subjected to the spring 21 bearing on the ring 22. The chain 6a drives the wheel 6 wedged on the shaft 5 which rotates and causes the cable guide 4 to move normally, that is to say at a speed corresponding to that of the planned cable diameter.
If, for some reason, the cable 3 is replaced by a larger diameter cable, then the cable guide 4 must progress faster. This is obtained by removing the transmission by the wheels 8 and 6 and the chain 6a and by engaging that by the wheels 9 and 7 and the chain 7a. To do this, we push the lever 18 along the arrow Y which pushes the rod 17 along X (figure 1 and figure 4). The pin 17a leaves the shoulders 14c 'and moves into the grooves 14b of the sleeve 14
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
and in the buttonholes 17d of the shaft 10 to occupy the position shown in Figure 4. The claws 14a continue to cooperate with 13b which always causes @ rotation of the hollow shaft 10.
Under the thrust of the rod 17, the pin 20 which, by its ends housed in the grooves 19b, pushes on the shoulders 19c and pushes this sleeve 19 against the action of the spring 21 which is compressed.
The sleeve 19 then occupies the position of Figure 4 and is disengaged. The engagement between the claws 19a and 8b is eliminated, the wheel 8 is no longer driven and the shaft 5 no longer receives its movement from this side.
But by this movement, the rod 7 has caused the clutch of the wheel 9. In fact, on two opposite wedges 10c, near the left end of the hollow shaft 10, is mounted the flywheel 23 which is sliding; this flywheel rotating with the shaft 10 is also made integral with the -stem 17 by the pin 24 which, during the pushing of this rod along X, moves in the buttonholes 24d provided in the shaft 10. The claws 23a of the flywheel 23 cooperate with the claws 9b of the wheel 9 mounted on the nozzle 9a retained by the stop ring 25. The wheel 9 is engaged (figure 4). and by the chain 7a and the wheel 7 (figure 1) rotates shaft 5 at higher speed which makes the cable guide 4 run faster.
In FIG. 2 is shown a position of the members in which, by pulling the lever 18 in the direction opposite to Y, the rod 17 is pulled in the direction opposite to the arrow X. Then the pin 17a whose ends rest on shoulders 14c, moves
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in the buttonholes 17d of the shaft 10 and pulls on the sleeve 14 which compresses the spring 15; this produces the disengagement of the control wheel 13. The claws 19a of the sleeve 19 continue to cooperate with the claws 8b of the wheel 8 which remains engaged because the spindle 20 has not moved and the buttonhole 20a of the rod 17 has allowed the displacement of the rod 17 in the direction opposite to X.
By moving the rod 17 in the direction opposite to X, the flywheel 23 secured to the rod 17 by the pin 24. and the hollow shaft 10 by the opposing shims 10c passes, under the traction of the spindle 24, from the position of FIG. 4 to that of FIG. 2; claws 23a and 9b do not cooperate and the wheel 9 remains disengaged, not rotating the shaft 5. Then, as'. the wheel 8 and the sleeve 19 have remained engaged, it is possible by operating the handwheel 23 by hand. very slowly turn the shaft 5 by the wheel 8. the chain 6a and the wheel 6, which is useful when making adjustments.
It should be noted that the shaft 17 rotates in the same direction and at the same speed as the shaft 10, regardless of the step adopted.
The present invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described since it is possible, with some adaptations, to apply it even if it is desired to have a number of speeds greater than two.
