The present invention relates to a tubular foot for tubular metal furniture and its object is an economical mass production of the latter. Tubular legs of this kind, which are forcibly threaded into the downward-facing end of the supporting legs of tubular furniture (tables, chairs, etc.), were heretofore made from a section of tube stored at a determined length.
One of their ends was closed by an insert made separately.
The invention aims to create a manufacture of said feet

tubular in one piece. This is achieved by the fact that a metal blank, preferably having the shape of a section of bar cut with a saw or shear, is first formed by cold stamping into a cup and the latter is then shaped in another pressing operation to receive its desired final shape, that is to say that of an elongated hollow cylindrical body comprising a bottom.
Various other characteristics of the invention moreover emerge from the detailed description which follows and from the appended drawing showing schematically, by way of non-limiting example, the various working phases of the process for manufacturing a tubular base.
Figure la is a longitudinal section of a tubular foot; Figure 1b is a plan view corresponding to Figure 1a; FIG. 2 represents a meallique blank having the shape of a bar section and comprising a centering edge formed by upsetting; FIG. 3 represents a stamping tool for shaping a bucket; Figure 4 shows a subsequent use pressing tool for the production of an elongated closed bottom hollow cylinder as the final form; @ Figure 5 is a -longitudinal section of the cold-stamped tubular foot, showing the appearance of the fibers.
The metal blank 1: affecting the shape of a bar section (figure 1), which is advantageously pushed back in a preliminary working phase to receive at its lower extremity a centering edge l ', serves as a starting part for the manufacture of tubular feet by the conforma process

to the invention This blank is placed in the pressing tool shown in Figure 3, which consists of the punch 2 and the pressing sleeve 3. During the descent of the punch 2, its necked part 2 's 'sinks into the upper end of the blank 1, so that the pressed material rises between this necked part 2' of the punch and the inner wall of the pressing sleeve 3.
During this pressing operation, the blank 1 is shaped into a bucket 4 by back-discharge pressing (flow of the material in the opposite direction to the movement of the punch). This bucket is then shaped in another pressing tool (FIG. 4) with reduction of its diameter and of the wall thickness of the shell of the bucket by direct stamping, which forms the tubular body 2 shown in FIG. Figure 4 and comprising the closed bottom 5 '. During this pressing operation, the punch 6 exerts a pressure by its annular shoulder 6 'on the edge of the casing of the bucket 4, which means that the material of the latter is forced through the gap between the 6 "appendage of the punch and the stepped portion of the die bore.
The flow of the material is therefore in this case in the direction of movement of the punch, which is hereinafter referred to briefly as "direct stamping".
The conically widened edge 5 ", formed at the upper end during the cold stamping of the tubular body 5, is cut afterwards. The thick bottom is, moreover, flattened in a last phase of work on a part. of its height, so as to obtain the final shape shown in / Figures 1 and 5.
FIG. 5 also shows the appearance of the fibers in the cold-drawn tubular foot.
To prevent contact between the workpiece and the pressing tool during stamping, the blank 1 is coated, prior to shaping, with a layer of phosphate ser-

A suitable lubricant support front which exhibits high compressive strength and maintains a one-piece lubricating film at high pressures. In this regard, rapeseed oil and tallow oil, that is to say so-called active lubricants containing fatty acids, have for example proved to be particularly good. Likewise, soaps in aqueous solution are suitable lubricants for the cold stamping of metals, especially steel.
Various modifications can moreover be made to the embodiment, shown and described in detail, without departing from the scope of the invention.
