<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
'-Si l'on doit en outre établir une distinction entre des trains de rang plus élevé encore.et d'autres trains, il est .nécessaire que l'appareil récepteur, lorsqu'il est actionné, amène l'appareil de block du second canton suivant à sollici- ter le sens de circulation pour le passage dans ledit canton et à le conserver lorsqu'il l'a obtenu. En conséquence, un tel train se réserve deux cantons à l'avance, de telle sorte que, lorsqu'il rencontre un train, par exemple de rang moyen, il choisit automatiquement un point de croisement situé pour lui à une distance favorable ; il peut alors traverser le point d'évitement sans s'arrêter, tandis que l'autre train doit attendre.
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

"Installation combined with a block device".
Automatic, unsupervised avoidance points for single-track lines must be fitted with blocking installations, when the line is not run on an exact schedule, in order to avoid the danger of train collisions. The exit signals are subject to the influence of this block, the trains themselves controlling the switchgear of the block so that before each passage of a train in a block section the direction of movement is requested and fixed and that after the opening or by the opening of the signal, the channel is indicated as occupied until
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that at the next station, a similar installation, operated by the train, announces again that the track is free.
When the timetable is not fixed, crossings can be done anywhere, that is to say where the trains meet more or less at random. So, each time, the train entering a station in which a crossing is to take place, given the position of the trains, must stop while the second train can pass. Depending on the circumstances, the waiting time may reach the time required to cross the canton.
In simple cases, we can be satisfied with this system.
However, as soon as trains run on a line which have a certain order of precedence over each other such as express, omnibus and freight trains, this simple operating system becomes extremely inconvenient. It is in fact necessary to take into account, for the operation of the various automatic devices, the various categories of trains so that each time the least favored trains stop and wait for the priority trains.
To this end, according to the invention, each section block device is provided with a transmitter device and / or a receiver device each comprising .at least one relay and which can be actuated in a determined manner for at least one less some kind of train. The operation of the transmitting device located in the monitored departure station is, for example, deliberately carried out by the staff of the station according to the type of train. This transmitting device, when activated, in turn acts on the receiving device in connection with the block station of the next unmonitored station, in relation with the block operations, by a connection line.
The receiving device transmits the signal it receives, always in relation to block operations and operations. in the devices associated with the station installations, to the transmitting device in connection with the section block device assigned to the next block. In this way, the signal, which
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
corresponds to the genre of the train, is propagated in relation to block operations with the train considered over the entire track because, as we said above, it is the trains themselves which operate the block apparatus. The transmitting and receiving devices are further arranged such that, when actuated, they act in a manner specific for the kind of train under consideration on the station or section block devices.
The connecting line between two neighboring stations can be the block line itself, but a pair of special conductors can also be used.
For the execution of the transmitting and receiving devices, advantage can be taken of the possibility of producing them, at least partially, by means of constituent parts of the block device itself. This is particularly advantageous when the block line itself is used for the transmission of signals from transmitting devices to receiving devices.
For example, it is possible to arrange a receiving device in such a way that it itself serves as a prior blocking device, the block device then containing two prior block devices, one of which operates according to normal block operations while the other is actuated for operations of a special character Likewise, the transmitting apparatus may be part of the block apparatus, this transmitting apparatus producing both the block pulse with signal transmission, specific than the normal block pulse without signal transmission,
Since in all cases it is necessary to record the orders received by the receiver,
because the transmission of the signal is only permitted each time the train causes a determined modification of the 'state of the block apparatus', it is possible to provide for a. common recording device for receiving and transmitting devices This means that the device
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
transmitter, which is in connection with the block apparatus of the canton located on one side of the avoidance station, must at least partly include the same facilities as the receiver apparatus which is in connection with the block of the canton located on the other side of the avoidance post.
Apart from the contact insta of the block apparatus on the receiving side, depending on the circumstances, such a recording apparatus may itself act as a receiving apparatus so that, as a transmitting apparatus, there remains only the contacts of this recording device in the block device on the transmitter side.
Under these circumstances, the arrangement of the transmitting and / or receiving devices can be done in different ways. For example, the transmitter and / or receiver device is essentially constituted by a relay triggered in the rest position and engaged in the working position; this relay returns to the rest position as soon as its contacts, in the block apparatus on the transmitter side, have fulfilled their function, which is the transmission of the signal.
The transmitter and / or receiver device can also be essentially constituted by a relay which is engaged in the rest position and. tripped.in working position.
-The same functions can also be assumed by a transmitter and / or receiver device essentially constituted by a relay with mechanical support or. magnetic.
If the block line is used as a link line for the transmission of the signal between the transmitting and receiving stations of two neighboring stations, it is possible to send in this link line, to transmit the signal of the transmitting device from one station to the receiving apparatus of the next station, between two successive block operations, a current pulse of a different character from that of the first current pulse of the next block operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As characteristic of the various pulses, it is possible to choose the frequency, the phase situation of the currents or voltages, the intensity, the duration or, with the current contained, the polarity or even combinations of these quantities.
The duration must not absolutely have a determined value because permanent currents, which pass between two operations following each other in any way, are also taken into account.
The transmission of the signal from the transmitting device of a station to the receiving device of the neighboring station can however also be carried out with the block operation itself. even. To this end, the number of block operations must be increased by those corresponding to the transmission of the signal.
It is particularly advantageous that the sighal is transmitted to the receiving apparatus of the next station with the block operation itself. To this end, we can simply complete the prior blocking operation by an additional current pulse, for trains of the priority type, which distinguishes it from the operation serving as prior blocking for 'trains' having nothing of particular.
For this, pulses of the same character or of a different character can be used.
Similarly, the operation of requesting the direction of travel for trains of the priority type can be completed by a current pulse with respect to the same operation for trains having nothing in particular. again, pulses of the same or different character can be used.
The action of the transmitting and receiving devices on the station or section block devices first
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
that priority trains are favored during crossings To this end, for example, the receiving device, when it is activated, causes the block device of the next block to ask for the direction of movement for passage in this block and to keep it when he got it. This gives an advantage to the? :: priority trains when the receiving device is influenced when the train leaves the previous station.
Thus, for this train, not only the block in which it enters is occupied, but also the following block is already reserved for it. A train traveling in the opposite direction and which is not accompanied by such a singal, that is to say which, at the start, only occupies the section into which it enters and which does not reserve the meaning of movement in the next block, is therefore, when it meets a train favored in the manner just described, stopped when it reaches the station which is located at least one entire block in front of the priority train. This station therefore becomes an automatic avoidance point which will be crossed without stopping by the priority train, since the non-favored train arrives there, always the first.
'-If a further distinction is to be made between trains of still higher rank and other trains, it is necessary that the receiving apparatus, when activated, brings the block apparatus of the second next block to request the direction of traffic for passage through said block and to keep it when it has been obtained. Consequently, such a train reserves two blocks in advance, so that, when it encounters a train, for example of middle rank, it automatically chooses a crossing point situated for it at a favorable distance; he can then cross the avoidance point without stopping, while the other train must wait.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
As has already been said, the receiving apparatus returns to its starting position as soon as it has transmitted the order which it has received to the transmitting side of the station. This should only be done, however, when the devices associated with the installation of the station have also performed the operations assigned to them or are in a state allowing the performance of these operations. This is a necessary condition for the safe operation of the installation since the actuation of the transmitting and receiving devices must only take place in relation to block operations and never in the form of independent commands.
It is therefore advantageous that the signal is transmitted from the receiving apparatus to the transmitting apparatus only when the operations, which must be initiated by the receiving apparatus in the apparatuses associated with the installation of the station, have been fully executed.
The description which will follow with regard to the appended drawing, given by way of nonlimiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge both from the text and from the drawing: forming, of course, part of said invention.
'-The figure-given an example of the timing of the journeys of two trains. The stations or avoidance stations are equipped, in addition to the control devices for points and track signals, with a DC block device.
The transmitter and receiver devices associated with the section block are essentially each constituted by a relay, connected in this case to the block line.
Since direct current is used for block operations; the current associated with the transmitting and receiving devices intended to transmit a signal depending on the type of train is an alternating current, so that no interference can occur in the various operations.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The watch is such that the relay when energized produces an alternating current pulse on the transmission line of the section block, by which the receiving relay connected to the other end of the machine is energized. This receiving relay is arranged in such a way that it can be maintained by a contact which is proper to it even when the impulse has ceased and this, as long as the operation which it has commanded has not been executed.
The accomplishment of this operation then ensures, through the device contacts, the return of the receiving relay in the starting position.
The receiving relay controls, through its contacts, in conjunction with the contacts of the blockes section, the station and block devices as well as the transmitting relay of the next block in the manner which will be described below.
The upper line represents the lane in which 6 sidings 1 to 6 are provided. In the lines A M z located below the previous one, the various service states which follow each other in time are indicated. The arrows in solid lines indicate that the section envisaged is previously blocked from the beginning to the end of the arrow. The dotted arrows indicate that the section envisaged is reserved from end to end of the arrow for the direction of movement corresponding to the direction of said arrow but is not yet blocked.
The signals shown in the figure mean that the signal shown is open, while the unrepected signal is closed. The small oblique arrow indicates that the transmitter or receiver-corresponding device is activated.
Consequently, the situation in line A is as follows: the priority train traveling from left to right is in front of the first avoidance station and is rolling towards it. The corresponding block is blocked until the entrance to the station station
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
avoid 1. The input signal is open and given that this is a priority train, the receiving device in connection with the block device of block 0-1 is activated.
The receptor apparatus a causes the attachment of the circulatory cene in the block apparatus between the points ..; avoided 1 and 2 in the direction of movement of the approaching train for the next block and the exit sign at the back of the dation
1 is open.
A non-priority train runs on the track, from station 7 to station 6. The corresponding block is blocked until the entry of station 6 and the entry signal of said station is open. Since this is a non-priority train, the receiving device connected to the block device of station 6 is not activated and the block of block 6-5 keeps the idle position, the output signal of station 6 in this direction being closed.
In line B, the left train is in front of the entry signal of station 1: By activating a track device, for example by passing over an isolated section of track, it has caused blocking of block 1- 2 by the device of; block of this block because the-relay-receiver is energized. After this blocking, the receiving relay energizes the transmitter relay of block 1-2 which connects the alternating current to the line and energizes the receiving relay of station 2. After the transmitter relay of station 1 has been actuated, the receiving relay of this same station which was energized returns to the rest position.
At station 2, given that the receiving relay is energized, the direction of travel is reserved, for block 2-3, in the direction of travel of the arriving train.
Due to the prior blocking between stations 1 and 2, the installations of station 2 operate to bring the input signal to "free channel", while the reservation of the direction of

circulation from 2 to 3 results in opening of the output signal.
The train traveling in the opposite direction has reached the input signal of station 6 on the side of block 7-6 and triggers the prior blocking, for example passing, on an isolated section of track, which reserves the direction of traffic in canton 6-5. As a result, the output signal for the intended direction of station 6 opens. Since the receiving relay at 6 is not energized, block 6-5 is not blocked, unlike what happens for the train running in the opposite direction.
On line C the left train, heading towards 2, has passed the exit signal for station 1; all the installations of the station have returned to their starting position, block 0-1 has been released and the excitation of the transmitting relay of 1 has ceased. The reverse train passed through station 6 so that, again, the station installation was returned to its starting position and block 7-6 released. The state represented by line C therefore corresponds to that of line a with the only difference that the trains have each moved forward by one block. line d corresponds to line B, with the difference, however, that, now, the two blocks which end in station 4 are already reserved as regards the direction of traffic.
Line E corresponds to line C; however, entry into station 4 was caused by the prior blocking of 5 to 4 but, given the state of the block installation in canton 3-4, this entry could only be made on a diversion track.
In line 'F, the priority train is in front of the entry signal of station 3 and has initiated in this station the operations similar to those described for line D.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
The recotou device connected to track block 3-4 in ation 4 is activated but, since block 4-5 is still occupied, nothing has been able to trigger yet. In block 5-4 the train is in front of the entry signal but it too can not yet initiate the normal operations it should do on block 4-3.
On line G, 'the left trani exited from -station 3, so that all the and components of this station returned to the starting position, while the right train entered the bypass life from the avoidance station 4-.
Line H shows the existing state as soon as the. Entry signal of the right train has come to a stop and that the corresponding route has been released. At this moment, the track has been prepared for the left train, the input signa = '¯ is set to free track and, given that the receiving device connected to the block device of block 3-4 is actuated, block 4-5 is prepared for the passage of the mower train and the output signal from 4 to 5 is opened.
Gentle lines G and II show that the priority train does not need to stop because its passage was prepared in time. The crossing should also have taken place at avoidance station 4 if the right train had been in the case of the line just after the left train had reached the case shown on line F. In this case also, the right train would be at a shorter distance or at most the same distance of 4 as the left train. The passage is in all cases without stopping for the left train.
On line 'J, the left train has reached the entry signal of avoidance station 4: and, for it, block operations are offectuern as described above beyond

It goes without saying that modifications can be made to the embodiments which have just been described, in particular by substitution of equivalent technical means' - without going beyond the scope of the present invention.
