<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to a tilting door of the type comprising, at each of its lateral ends and on the same side of its plane, a lever articulated at one end to the door, carrying at its other end a counterweight and mounted, between its two ends, on a fixed position pivot.
There are known overhead doors of the type specified above, in which the door carries, at its upper part, rollers forced to move in guide rails.
This system offers various drawbacks, in particular that of being and of requiring a fairly considerable effort for the operation of the door.
Also known are tilting doors of the type in question in which a tilting lever is articulated, at one of its ends, to the part. top of the door, when conddère the latter in the closed position, and can pivot, at its other end, around a fixed pivot established near the ground. This system also requires a significant initial effort to open the door, while it is cumbersome.
The present invention relates to a tilting door of the type specified above, which does not have the drawbacks of the known systems mentioned above.
In such a door, there is provided, in accordance with the invention, a retaining and guiding rod, one end of which can pivot about a pivot of fixed position and which is articulated, at its other end, at a point close to the lower part of the door ldrsqu'on considers the latter in its closed position.
According to an advantageous feature of the invention, in particular with a view to reducing the bulk of the door tilting system, the fixed position pivot around which one end of the retaining and guide rod can pivot is located at a level all at most equal to the level of the point of articulation of the aforesaid lever at the door.
When the overhead door is in the closed position, the fixed position pivot around which one end of the retaining and guide rod can pivot is preferably located between the fixed position pivot of the aforesaid lever and the plane of the door.
According to another advantageous feature of the invention, the distance between the fixed position pivot around which one end of the aforementioned connecting rod can pivot and the fixed position pivot on which the aforesaid lever is mounted is less than the distance separating the points d 'articulation of the lever and the connecting rod to the door.
The arrangement of the aforesaid lever and of the retaining rod may also be such that the point of articulation of said and / or said rod to the door is located outside the plane of the door.
This arrangement is, moreover, advantageously such that the distance between the fixed position pivot on which the aforesaid lever is mounted and the point of articulation of this lever to the door corresponds substantially to the distance between the fixed position pivot around which can pivot one end of the retaining and guide rod and the pivot point of this rod to the door.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which show chemically and by way of example only, two embodiments of a tilting door according to the invention.
In these drawings, Figures 1 and 2 illustrate very schematically, two types of overhead door according to the invention, in vertical section.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In these two figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
The tilting door according to the invention comprises a panel 2 which can tilt towards the interior of a room whose ceiling is indicated at 3.
At its upper part, the door panel 2 rests, in the closed position, against a piece of wood 4. At each of its lateral ends and on the same side of its central plane, the panel 2 of the door is hinged at 5 at the end of a lever 6 carrying at its other end a counterweight 7. Between its end articulated to the panel 2 and its end carrying the counterweight 7, the lever 6 is mounted on a pivot 8 of fixed position.
As shown in Figure 1, a connecting rod 9, serving as a retaining and guiding member of the panel 2, is articulated, at one of its ends at 10, at a point close to the lower part of the panel 2, when one considers this panel in the closed position. At its other end, the retaining and guiding rod 9 is mounted on a pivot 11 in a fixed position, independent of the lever 6.
The fixed position pivots 8 and 11 can be anchored in the walls of the room that can be closed off by the overhead door or can be carried by fixed parts, themselves secured to the walls, floor or ceiling of said room.
To reduce, as far as possible, the bulk of the tilting and guide system and to prevent, in particular, that the lever 6 and the connecting rod 9 must cross during their pivoting, which causes difficulties for assembly and the shape of this lever and this connecting rod, the arrangement of these two elements is such that the pivot 11 of fixed position of the connecting rod 9 is at a level at most equal to that of the pivot 8 of fixed position of the lever 6 .. In Figure 1, the pivot 11 is at the same level as the pivot 8, while in Figure 2, which represents a variant of the tilting door according to the invention, the pivot 11 is located at a level lower than that of pivot 11 is located at a lower level than that of pivot 8.
In the closed position of the door panel 2, shown in solid lines in Figures 1 and 2, the pivot 11 is located between the vertical median plane of the panel 2 and the vertical plane passing through the pivot 8 and parallel to the panel 2.
In Figures 1 and 2, the panel 2, the lever 6 and the connecting rod 9 have been shown in solid lines, in the position they occupy, when the door is closed. The panel 2, the lever 6 and the connecting rod 9, have been shown in phantom in the position they occupy when the door is ajar. Finally, the panel 2, the lever 6 and the connecting rod 9 have been shown in broken lines in the position they occupy, when the door is fully open.
As also shown in the drawings, the distance which separates the pivot 11 from the pivot 8 is less than the distance which separates the articulation 5 of the lever 6 to the panel 2 from the articulation 10 of the connecting rod 9 to the panel 2.
In addition, according to yet another characteristic arrangement of the present invention, the distance between the pivot 8 and the articulation 5 of the lever 6 is substantially equal to the distance between the pivot 11 and the articulation 10 of the connecting rod 9.
In Figure 2, there is shown a variant of the tilting door according to the invention, in which the pivot 11 of the connecting rod 9, instead of being at the same level as the pivot 8 of the lever 6, is located at a lower level to that of this pivot 8. Moreover, instead of being established in the median plane of the panel 2, the articulation 10 of the connecting rod is located at a certain distance from this plane towards the interior of the room. Indeed, this articulation 10 is mounted on a console 12 fixed to the panel 2, in the vicinity of its lower part, when considering this panel 2 in the vertical position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
wedge shown in solid lines.
Without departing from the scope of the invention, the door could also be arranged so that the articulation 5 of the lever 6 is also located at a certain distance from the median plane of the panel 2, towards the interior of the room.
The drawings show that the hinges 5 and 10 travel, when tilting the panel 2, non-concentric arcs of a circle and that the space required above the opening, to allow the panel to tilt from its vertical position of closing to its horizontal fully open position is very low.
It is obvious that the invention is not strictly limited to the embodiments described above and that various modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of some of the elements involved in its realization, provided that these modifications do not contradict the object of the following claims.
