PERFECTIONNEMENTS AUX SCIES A RUBAN D'ETABLI. -

IMPROVEMENTS TO BENCHBAND SAWS. -
The invention relates to band saws and especially to bench saws.
In known saws of this type, the saw band passes over two superimposed pulleys or drums, the tension of the band being obtained by counterweight, which requires a movable assembly of the upper pulley.
As a result, the center distance of the two pulleys is variable, which adversely affects the regularity of the cut and can cause accidents.
According to the present invention, the tension of the tape is obtained through the use of a third pulley or drum arranged laterally in the plane of the first pulleys or drums, which pulley is mounted on an adjustable position frame. To ensure the desired tension, it will suffice to bring this third pulley into the appropriate position.
In addition, the upper pulley, like the additional pulley, are carried by a tilting axis in order to adjust the position of the band on the saw, whether this band is wide or has become narrow by wear.
The drawing appended to this specification shows by way of example only a bench band saw according to the invention.
In this drawing,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the saw,
Fig. 2 is a corresponding profile view, and
Fig. 3 is a detail view on a larger scale, showing the device intended to allow the inclination of the shaft of the pulleys.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the saw made up of profiles or angle irons, comprises an upright 1 to which are welded perpendicular arms 2 to 4. The lower arm 2 is bolted on U-shaped cross members 5 forming a base and appropriately attaching to a workbench. The intermediate arm 3 supports U-bars 6 forming the table, while the upper arm 4 supports the bearing 15 of the shaft 7 of the pulley

upper 8. To the arm 4 is also fixed the guide head 9, of known construction, of the saw band 10. The arms 2 and 3 are braced in the axis of the shaft 7 of the pulley 8 by cross members. verticals 11 supporting the bearing of the shaft 12 of the lower pulley 13.
The shaft 12 is controlled by an electric motor using a suitable transmission.
On the side opposite to the upright 1 with respect to the pulleys 8 and 13, a U-shaped arm 14 can pivot on the latter at 18 supporting a bearing 15 ', similar to the bearing 15, crossed by a shaft 16. On the latter is wedged a third pulley 17, disposed in the vertical plane of the pulleys 8 and 13, substantially at an equal distance from one and the other. This pulley 17 is embraced by the saw band 10, which also bypasses the pulleys 8 and 13. In this regard, it will be noted that thanks to this new arrangement, the band 10 only embraces each of the three pulleys over one third. about their circumference and not about half, as is usually the case.
This considerably reduces friction and consequently the wear of the pulleys.
At its upper part, the arm 14 is crossed by a threaded rod 19, influenced by a spring 20 and mounted to toggle in the upright 1 of the saw, so as to be able to pivot in the latter when acting on the button. knurled 21 of the rod 18, the arm 14 is rotated more or less around its pivot 18 in order to modify the tension of the saw band 10.
We could obviously provide other means to ensure this voltage variation,
In order to adjust the position of the saw band on the pulleys, these can be oriented as desired. This is obtained in the present case thanks to the fact that the bearings 15 and 15 'of the pulleys 8 and 17 are each supported in a bracket 22, so as to be able to pivot around studs 23 carried by the latter. A threaded pin 24 passes through this yoke and plunges inside the bearings, so that by rotating it in the desired direction, they will pivot more or less and take a desired orientation.
Of course, other constructive modalities than those which have just been described could be adopted for the construction of this saw without departing from the scope of the invention.
CLAIMS. (a) Bench-top band saw having simultaneously or separately the following characteristics:
1 in addition to the two superimposed pulleys traversed by the saw band, a third pulley is provided laterally in the plane of the first two, this additional pulley also embraced by the saw band being mounted in an adjustable manner in order to constantly maintain the desired tension for the said ribbon.
