<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
REVENDICATIONS.

"Improvements to metal band saws".
The present invention relates to band saws specially adapted for sawing metals. More particularly, these improvements relate to machine tools comprising a band saw, stretched over drive wheels mounted on a mobile frame. This mobile frame is generally arranged in an inclined plane, the active position of which is well determined and which only takes into account the need to have the two strands of the band saw at different levels, so that the active strand either in contact with the workpiece which it saws while the other strand is at a higher level, that is to say above the workpiece.
In this type of machine, the need to make the band saw move in a plane inclined relative to the longitudinal axis
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the workpiece to be sawn, entails the need to straighten the active side of the band saw so as to place the part which attacks the metal perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the workpiece. This condition is easily fulfilled by the presence of an uide by which -esse the active side of the saw, a guide which causes the necessary warping or twisting of this part of the saw.
With this ease, a high performance machine tool is produced and working in good mechanical conditions, this machine as it is, offers the drawback of only allowing uniform sawing work along a normal plane, the longitudinal axis. of the room.
The present improvements are essentially intended to make this kind of machine universal, that is to say to improve them in such a way that practically any kind of sawing can be carried out, that is to say in different directions. absolutely arbitrary and in an easily adaptable and controllable manner.
A first improvement consists in making the frame carrying the mobile band saw, under such conditions that the angle which the plane of the active side of the saw with the workpiece makes can be modified at will and under such conditions that the desired angle can be achieved immediately by the active side of the saw. This first improvement is of capital importance in this type of machine, since by means of the same position and the same device for clamping the part on the frame of the saw, it will be possible to cut the part, according to infinitely variable planes.
To obtain this result, it will suffice to mount the frame of the saw in such a way that it can turn around one of its longitudinal edges and be wedged in any desired position, a measuring and control device making it possible instantly to place the active blade of the saw in the correct position.
An alternative embodiment, which can moreover in certain cases be used in conjunction with the means mentioned above,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
consists in making the guide of the active wire in the saw mobile and adjustable. Indeed, it is easily achievable to replace the fixed guide giving the active side of the saw an invariable torsion, a transversely movable guide capable of varying the angle of twisting of the active side of the saw while being able to be wedged in any desired position. , position read on an appropriate measuring and control device or device.
These two means, respectively the transverse mobility of the frame of the saw and the variation of the torsion of the active side of the saw, could perfectly well be used jointly, either, for example, that the first be used exclusively for angles greater than one. determined minimum and that the second means' is used exclusively for the angular displacements of the active side of the saw under said minimum. Or even these. two means can be combined so that the first makes it possible to have the active side of the saw approximately in the required position, the two means being for example micrometric making it possible to adjust this position very exactly.
In this case, it would suffice to make the two means bear on the same position indicating device.
In order to make the saw universal in its work, it can also be provided that the movement of the saw can be stopped at any time previously determined. Indeed, it may be necessary to only have to partially section certain parts, that is to say at given depths. For this purpose, the present invention provides for mounting between the saw or the frame of the saw or any other member integral with the movement of the latter and the circuit breaker of the motor operating the saw, an adjustable stop or an element of equivalent function, which will short-circuit the motor at the exact moment when the saw has reached the predetermined depth.
If we coordinate this characteristic with the previous one, we can therefore use this universal saw to cut out of any parts elements of dimension.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Essentially variable sions and profiles without any need for continuous monitoring. Indeed, this universal saw, by the different sawing planes which it allows to be produced and the adjustable depth work which results from the second cited characteristic, considerably increases the utility value of this machine tool. Finally, if we also take into account that the vice fixing the part to the frame is also movable transversely, we will have indeed produced a universal machine.
The different requirements set out above can be materialized in very different ways. Indeed, the adjustable mobility of the frame of the saw and / or of the guide of the active saw blade, as well as the adjustment of the actuation of the switch, can be obtained by essentially variable mechanical or electro-mechanical means. .
In order to make the characteristics of the invention even better understood, certain executions are described in more detail below and shown diagrammatically in the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a diagram of a band saw with variable angular position; FIG. 2 is a diagram of a means for instantaneous control of the angular position of the active side of the saw; FIG. 3 is a diagram of an angularly movable and adjustable guide device for the active side of the saw; FIG. 4 is a diagram of a device for controlling the motor breaker actuating the band saw.
According to Figure 1, the machine consists substantially of a band saw 1, mounted on a frame 2¯ and tensioned and guided by two wheels, respectively 3, 4. The frame 2 is mounted on an inclined axis 5 and extended by a support 6 for the, actor 7 and the speed reducer 8, This assembly forms a pendulum which is balanced by a suitable spring 9, The inclined arrangement of the axis 5 maintains the frame 2 and, therefore,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the saw 1 in a plane of the same inclination as the said axis Nevertheless, this assembly moves as the saw advances through the material. This, in this case a bar
10, is clamped in a vice 11, integral with the general frame 12 of the machine.
The inclination of the frame 3 and therefore of the saw 1 is required by the need to erase the second saw blade from the workpiece while the active blade is operating.
This active strand is normally twisted or warped or straightened, with the effect of bringing it into a plane perpendicular to the axis of the workpiece. This deformation is obtained by straighteners formed by duly directed arms and comprising a slot for the passage of the saw. In order to reduce the friction of the saw on its guides, these are provided with ball or roller bearings.
According to the invention, the machine is made universal due to the fact that sawing can be carried out in all directions and at predetermined depths. In order to carry out the sawing of a part in any plane, it suffices to direct the plane of the active side of the saw in the desired direction. To this end, a first means making it possible to obtain this result consists in making the frame 2 carrying the saw proper variable and adjustable. Indeed, it will be easily understood that if a given position of this frame corresponds to an attack of the saw perpendicular to the axis of the workpiece, the attack plane and, consequently the sawing plane will deviate from the normal by making vary the inclination of axis 5 of the saw frame.
Therefore, according to one embodiment, it suffices to make the support of the axis 5 movable and to combine with this support a reading member indicating the successive positions of the plane of the saw.
FIG. 2 shows diagrammatically such an execution. Indeed, the axis
5 rests on a support 13, provided with a circular rack 14.
The latter engages in a lower guide 15 and is capable of being inclined by a toothed wheel 16 actuated by a crank or lever 17. The support 13 is rotatably mounted on a
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
ad hoc axis 18 resting, for example on the frame 12 of the machine. The rack 14 is combined with an angular graduation 19 giving, for example, at any time the angle that the active side of the saw makes with a comparison plane, either the vertical plane or the horizontal plane. To modify the sawing plane, or even to saw along a determined plane, it will suffice to actuate the lever 17 in the appropriate direction to move both the rack 14, the support 13, the axis 5, the frame 8, and all the components carried by it and in particular the saw 1.
Obviously, mechanical accessories can be provided in particular to operate the operation of the rack 14, to wedge the movable elements firmly in their final position, etc.
Independently of or in combination with this device for adjusting the inclination of the saw, a second means can be used, which consists in varying the angle of twist of the active side of the saw. Indeed, the guides of the latter are generally fixed.
Following the example of FIG. 3, the guides comprise an inner core 20 movable around its axis. This core 20 has the guide slot 21 and the bearing 22, This same core 20 is integral with a concentric toothed wheel 23, which meshes with a helical wheel 24. The axis of the latter protrudes on the device and ends by a handwheel 25, easily accessible. By turning this flywheel 25 in one direction or the other, the toothed wheel 23 moves to the left or to the right moving at the same time the core 20 and twisting by the same angular amount and in the same direction the corresponding part of the saw 1.
This device can be fast acting or micrometric. Preferably, it will include a reading device which may be secured to the core 20 or to the operating lever 25. In the first case, the core carries a needle 26 moving in front of a dial 27, which rests, for example, on the dial. general device support. In the second case, it is the handle 25 which
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
carries a needle 28, which moves in front of a suitable dial 29. It would also be possible to combine a rapid actuation device with a micrometric control device.
The two means of adjusting the sawing plane can be used individually or even combined on the same machine. It is therefore possible to arrange the active blade of the saw very exactly in the desired sawing plane. It is also possible to modify the sawing plane by making the vice 11 variable on the frame 12 of the machine. Indeed, the pieces to be sawed can be placed at any angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the frame 12.
Finally, it may still be useful in some cases to be able to immobilize the saw not only when the workpiece is completely cut off, but also when the saw has reached a certain depth in the workpiece. For this purpose, provision can be made, as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 4, for the circuit of the motor controlling the silk to be opened automatically, when the latter has reached the desired depth, by an appropriate member or device depending on the position of the silk. saw.
According to Figure 4, the means provided consist of a rod 30 integral with the frame supporting the saw or any other member depending on the position of the latter. This rod 30 carries a cursor 31 capable of moving along this rod and of being firmly immobilized in all places of the latter. The cursor 31 has a finger 32 capable of coming into contact with a breaker 33 controlling the circuit of the motor 34 controlling the saw. The rod 30 carries a graduation or is disposed near a graduation, so that the position of the cursor 31 can be instantly secured. By means of such a device, the saw having reached the predetermined depth, has moved downwards at the same time as its frame. It has driven the rod 30 and the slider 31.
At this depth, the finger 32 actuates the breaker 33 and the motor 34 is thus immobilized
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
than the saw.
Obviously, this execution, as well as the previous ones relating to the angular variation of the saw, are given only by way of example and without any restrictive conditions. In fact, the same prescriptions can be applied by means of extremely diverse executions, and on the other hand a host of mechanical or electro-mechanical accessories can still be imagined.
