pieces of a refractory material, so that the fuel mixture, arriving in the combustion chamber, burns at its upper part while the non-carbonated liquid arrives on the pieces of refractory material and is also burned there . The wall of the combustion chamber is thus brought to a sufficiently high temperature to heat the wall of the mixing chamber.
In an advantageous form of the object of the invention, the fuel liquid is brought into the mixing chamber by a pipe dividing near the latter into two branches opening into the upper part of the mixing chamber and from which one is provided with a valve ensuring the normal flow rate, while the other is provided with a valve ensuring the flow rate of the standby mode,
According to another embodiment, between the mixing chamber and a supply tank containing the fuel liquid is arranged a tank whose inlet valve is provided with a float closing the latter, when the level in this tank has reached. exceeded that of the liquid inlet orifice in the aforesaid chamber, this orifice being disposed in the bottom of this chamber.
In the mixing chamber, near the bottom thereof and between the fuel liquid inlet and the combustion chamber is disposed a baffle partially blocking the passage of the gaseous mixture, as well as the fuel liquid, one means being provided allowing said baffle to be moved in the direction of flow of the aforesaid fluids.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of a burner for liquid fuels given below, by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the appended d.essin.
FIG. 1 represents a burner according to the invention.
FIG. 2 represents a burner according to the invention provided with another feeding device.
The burner shown in Figure 1, comprises a chamber 1 for mixing the air .comburant and the fuel liguide-outlet.

in a combustion chamber 2 containing a layer 3 of pieces of a refractory material, covering its bottom.
The combustion chamber 2 is made in the form of a container open above and relatively deep. The mixing chamber 1, the bottom 4 of which is inclined towards the combustion chamber 2 opens into the latter at mid-height thereof and above the layer 3 of pieces of a refractory material.
The walls of the mixing and combustion chambers being made of a material which is a good conductor of heat, and closely joined together, the wall of the mixing chamber is heated and the fuel liquid, coming against this wall, is gasified.
The fuel liquid is brought into the mixing chamber 1 via a pipe 5 which divides near the mixing chamber 1 into two branches 6 and 7 opening into the upper part of the latter.
The branch 6 is provided with a valve 8 ensuring the flow of the normal operation of the burner, while the branch 7 is provided with a valve 9 ensuring the flow of the standby operation. The branch 7 is also provided with a second valve 10 located upstream of the valve 9 and making it possible to completely cut off the flow of the liquid without disturbing the setting of the standby operation.
The branch 6, comprising the valve 8, is also provided with a second valve 11, also located upstream of the valve 8 and controlled by a regulator 12, mounted on the boiler 13 heated by the burner, so that its flow rate is the lower the temperature developed in the boiler.
The pipe 5 is provided with a valve 14 disposed upstream of the bifurcation of this pipe. This valve is subjected to the action of a weight 15, tending to bring it into a closed position, but is however held in the open position by the string 16, part of which 17 passes through the mixing chamber 1 . Twine
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
16 being of combustible material is burned in the event of a flashback and the valve, released, is closed by the action of the weight 15.
FIG. 2 shows another embodiment of supplying the burner. Between the chamber 1 and a supply tank 25 containing the fuel liquid is disposed a tank 26), the inlet valve 27 of which is provided with a float 28.
When the level in this reservoir 25 has exceeded that of the orifice 29 through which the liquid arrives in the chamber 1, the valve 27, activated by the float 28, cuts off the flow of the liquid.
The upper part of the bottom of the chamber 1 has an orifice 22 communicating with a pipe 23 opening into a reservoir 24, located at a level lower than that of the mixing chamber.
In the mixing chamber 1, between the fuel liquid inlet and the combustion chamber 3 is a cheicane 18.
This baffle, arranged normally in the direction of the flow of fluids, partially blocks the passage of the gas mixture as well as the fuel liquid. A rod 19, housed in the chamber 1 and having a handle 20, makes it possible to move the baffle 18 according to the direction of flow of the aforesaid fluids and thus to regulate the intensity of evaporation of the liquid fuel.
It is obvious that in the event of insufficient draft from the chimney, a fan 21 can be added to the burner.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the constitution, the number and the arrangement of the elements involved in its realization without departing from the scope of the present patent application, provided that these changes are compatible with the spirit of the claims set out below.
