Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  "Quick coupling, for pressurized gas pipes"
The present invention relates to a quick-coupling connector, specially designed with the aim of making the loading maneuver, awc distribution stations, of vehicles running on compressed town gas, moreover capable of making it practically instantaneous. to be applied for the connection of all other high and low pressure gas pipes which require frequent disassembly.

   The connection of the compressed gas pipes is most generally carried out by means of the conventional coupling comprising in substance a nut and a socket, the seal being ensured by a fiber or soft metal gasket.

  When it comes to permanent connections for which the disassembly is only very exceptionally motivated, a connection of this type usually overloads; but when it is necessary to proceed with disassembly and reassembly several hundred times a day, as in the case envisaged, this usual connection becomes clearly defective, since its operation is relatively long since the complete assembly operation and disassembly requires about thirty seconds, and furthermore, it requires the use of an oil.

   On the other hand, the energetic and repeated blockings which are necessary to ensure the tightness of the joint rapidly cause the destruction of the latter as well as the rapid wear of the threads. Finally, the oil maneuver is quite tiring.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The connector according to the invention has been produced with a view to eliminating these drawbacks.

   An embodiment is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which! Figure 1 is an axial vertical section of said connector; Figures 2 and 3 show separately the mile and female elements essentially making up this connector.

    As can be seen the male element of the fitting consists simply of a cylindrical piece of steel 1 pierced in the axis of a channel 2 of suitable diameter, and carrying at one of its ends the internal thread. 3 intended for fixing the element on one of the pipes; the opposite flat face 4 is case-hardened. Two diametrically opposed lugs serving for engagement are provided at 5.

   The female element comprises a housing, a valve and a movable part.

   The casing is in two parts: the upper steel part 6 serves as a guide for the male element 1; it forms an internal surface 7 bearing joint lines, and it receives by screwing the other part 8 which comes to block against a joint 7 embedded on the surface 7, and the lower part of which is provided with the thread 9 in view fixing the female element on the other pipe.

   The lower part 8 fits the valve which is made up of the pierced washer 10 of special rubber resting on the steel support 11 which is provided in its center with a tubular stud which serves as a guide for the washer and prevents the rubber from crushing and obstructing the gas passage; the spring 12 ensures the contact of the rubber washer on its seat 7. tee The movable part consists of a mole ring. tee 13 and an engaging sleeve 14 on which are provided the two bayonet openings 15 corresponding to the lugs 5 of the male element; these two parts are screwed onto each other by enclosing the casing, and are made integral by means of a locking screw 16.

   The operation of this device is self-explanatory.

   In the application which has been more especially considered above, the male element is permanently mounted in any suitable place on the vehicle to be loaded, and the female element is fixed to the end of the flexible pipe which the distribution station. It suffices to anchor the two elements by hand one into the other as is done with any bayonet shank, the casing of the female element remaining brawl while the movable part 13-14 rotates. to facilitate embedding; then we open the charging valves.

   No leakage is possible because the absolute tightness of the joint is ensured automatically by the gas pressure itself. In fact, in working order, the male element 1 comes exactly flush with the seat 7 provided on the casing.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 so that even before the pressurization, the valve is already applied to this seat by the spring 12; as soon as the charge valves are open, the etanoheity becomes absolute under the action of the pressure which acts on the valve and applies it strongly to the said seat, this valve being all the more vigorously applied to the valve. the gas pressure is greater.

   The advantages of the connector which has just been described are therefore obvious. Its maneuver is practically instantaneous, it does not require any physical effort and is completely safe; the rubber washer, the only part liable to deteriorate in the long run, can nevertheless withstand more than about two thousand loads, and when it is necessary to provide for its replacement, the operation can be done in a few moments .

   It goes without saying that the aforementioned fitting can be made in any suitable metal, and in any size.
