Monsieur Maurice GEAY
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La iig. 1 en est une vue de profil ;
La fig. 2 en est la coupe longitudinale;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Mr Maurice GEAY
The invention consists of an automatic gas mixer which is characterized in that the power of one of the gases passing through a pipeline under the effect of a pressure or a vacuum, 'is used to automatically adjust the flow. other gases to be mixed with the first.
This apparatus is applicable for the automatic and proper mixing of all kinds of gases.
To give an exemplary embodiment of the invention, a mixer will be described for supplying explosion engines with all gaseous fuels. In this case, there is the admission of air or of another gas which is regulated automatically by the passage of gases coming from the generator and therefore always remains proportional to the engine speed.
A corrector is provided to act on the air intake member, depending on the nature of the gas delivered and the hygrometric state of. I am ambient; this corrector is actuated independently of the above-mentioned automatic position of the throttle or other air intake member. '
The accompanying drawings show schematically this gas mixer as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The iig. 1 is a side view;
Fig. 2 is the longitudinal section;
Fig. 3 shows it, seen from the front from the air intake side with partial cutouts showing in section the details relating to the corrector.
According to the embodiment illustrated by the drawings, this mixer consists of a metal body 1, provided with two flanges 2 and 3, the flange 2 being fixed on the pipe supplying the gases from the generator and the flange 3 being fixed on the intake manifold leading to the cylinders. On the side of the flange 2 is located an internal pipe 4 cut in a whistle at its end on which is placed an angled flap 5 mounted on a movable shaft 6 which is outside the passage of the gases. This axis is connected by the rods 6, 7, 8 to an air intake butterfly 9. This butterfly and the shutter 3 tend to be held in the closed position by a spiral spring 11 with adjustable tension by the cover 12 fixed by the screws 13.
The rods 7 and 9 are connected by the rod 8 (fig. 1), the ends of which can move in the grooves 12 and be fixed in the suitable position; a screw 13 allows micrometric adjustment. A butterfly valve 14 for admitting the fuel mixture is provided downstream of the flap 5 and of the butterfly 9.
This mixer is provided with a corrector to vary the arrival of the air according to the nature of the gas supplied by the generator and the hygrometric state of the ambient air; this corrector acts on the butterfly 10 independently of the position given to it by the elbow flap 5.
It is constituted by a lever 15 controlled by the driver and which acts on a flat rod 16 sliding in the case 17 and of which
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the bent end is connected to a pin 18 (fig. 3) This pin is provided with a tenon 19 which can run in a longitudinal recess 20 provided in the concentric tube 21 and which is integral with the axis of the shutter 5; this tenon, after passing through the recess 20, still slides in the oblique slot 22 with which a third tube 23 integral with the connecting rod 9 is provided.
When the axis 18 is pulled, under the action of the lever 15, the, pin 19, by sliding in the oblique groove 22, will turn the tube 21 and, consequently, the axis of the inlet flap of air in a specific direction. In the reverse maneuver, the shutter will turn in the other direction.
, This corrector is only used in certain cases, but in general the air intake is automatically adjusted as follows:
Under the action of the engine suction, the gases coming to the generator cause the shutter 5 to open and the latter controls the air intake shutter 10 by the rods 7, 8,9. The shutter 5 tends to be brought back towards the closure; the opening of the shutter 10 is therefore always in constant relation to the quantity of gas arriving in the mixer and the air inlet is therefore exactly regulated by the volume of gas acting on the shutter 5.
This results in a mixture that is always well dosed at all engine speeds, even in the event of clogging of the generator, which reduces the arrival of gas; this mixture is stirred inside the body 1 and it is distributed to the cylinders by the usual butterfly 14.
It has been observed that with this mixer we obtain a gain in power, nervous pick-ups and a saving of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
combustible ; driving the vehicle is easy, the / corrector only having to be operated very rarely.
It is obvious that various modifications could be made depending on the applications of this mixer. Likewise, the shapes and dimensions of its main components, as well as the materials used in their manufacture, may vary without thereby changing the principle of the invention which has just been described.
