Description

Process for the manufacture of polycondensation products.
It is known that, by reaction of diurethanes with diamines, polyureas are obtained which have very valuable properties. It has furthermore been proposed to manufacture polyureas by reacting isocyanic acid esters with diamines. The isocyanic acid esters employed can be prepared from the corresponding "dicarbonic acid-diamides" by heating carefully in inert diluting agents.
It has now been found that one can dispense with the isolation of the isocyanic acid ester and directly react the dicarbonic acid-diazides. The present process is carried out in such a manner that the diazide is suspended in an inert solvent, for example benzol, and is reacted with the equivalent amount of a diamine. A white polycondensation product is produced which has good plastic properties.

: The: subsequent condensation occurring during processing can be reduced by the use of viscosity stabilizers, for example methylamine, ethylamine, cyclohexylamine, amyl alcohol, etc. If working with diluting agents, the influence of oxygen in the air is irrelevant so no special protective measures need to be taken.
Upon subsequent condensation '.; however, it is advantageous to remove oxygen

humidity for 12 hours. After this time, the reaction is almost completely complete and is heated to complete it further for 1/2 hour at boiling with reflux. The precipitated polycondensation product is separated by filtration and after removal of the benzol it is washed with cold water.
The polycondensation product is insoluble in benzol, alcohol, ether and water. On the other hand, it dissolves in concentrated hydrochloric acid, from which it can be partially precipitated again by dilution. It has good plastic properties, which can be further improved by short-term subsequent condensation in vacuum.
