Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Stopper spring for lag screw.

   The present invention relates to the fixing of rails on wooden sleepers by means of lag bolts. To properly fulfill their function, the lag bolts must be tangent to the base of the rail, a condition which is not always observed when installing the lag bolt and ceases to be fulfilled if the latter becomes loose in its position. housing either during installation or under the effect of the thrust of the rail. The object of the invention is a simple and effective device which ensures correct installation and maintenance of the lag screw in all circumstances.

   According to the invention, this device consists of an S-shaped spring steel plate which is notched on one side to embrace the lag screw and has a sharp edge on the opposite side for biting the cross member. Compressed between the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 head of the lag bolt and the cross member, the spring bears on the latter by its edge and constantly pushes the lag bolt against the rail shoe, as will be clearly understood by referring to the appended drawing. , given as an example, in which
Fig. 1 is a side view of the stop spring, showing in dotted lines the elements with which it cooperates, and
Fig. 2 is a corresponding plan view showing the spring alone.

   1 designates the S-profile spring, 2 the notch for the passage of the lag screw and 3 the sharp edge of the opposite edge.

   The spring 1 is placed under the head of the lag screw 4, with its edge 3 facing the cross member 5 on the side opposite the rail shoe 6. When the lag screw is installed, it is inserted into the cross member 5 and its head, before pressing on the pad 6, presses the spring at A at the top of its upper camber and causes the edge 3 to penetrate the wood of the crosspiece. As the pressure increases, the spring sags elastically and, sliding by its lower camber on the cross member while bracing itself on its edge anchored in the cross member, it exerts a substantial force in B on the lag bolt. horizontal which keeps the lag bolt tangent to the rail shoe.

   The length and the camber of the spring can be calculated so that when the head of the lag screw comes to rest on the shoe 6 to fix the rail on the cross member, the adjacent edge of the spring comes into contact at point C with the shoe, forming thus stop for the rail.

   If play tends to occur, resulting either from driving the rail into the cross member, or from the ovalization of the lag screw housing, the permanent elasticity of the spring has the effect of compensating for this play by maintaining the head of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 lag bolt in close contact with the rail shoe. In addition, due to the elasticity of the system, retightening of the lag screw is possible.

   It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment shown by way of example and that it would not go beyond its scope by making modifications of detail.

   CLAIMS ---------------------------
1.- Stop spring for lag screw consisting of an S-shaped steel plate, notched on one side to embrace the lag screw and terminated in a sharp edge on the opposite side to rest on the cross member for pushing elastically the lag bolt to the rail when the spring is compressed between the head of the lag bolt and the cross member.

Claims (1)

2.- stop spring according to claim 1, characterized in that the camber and the dimensions of the plate are such that the spring elastically collapsed under the pressure of the lag screw comes into contact with the rail and forms a stop for the latter when the head of the lag screw comes to rest on the rail shoe. 3.- Stopper spring for lag bolt substantially as described above with reference to the accompanying drawing.
