<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"IMPROVEMENTS PROVIDED TO DESTINED HOUSEHOLD CONTAINERS
COOKING "
Until now, use has been made, particularly for cooking with electricity, of cast iron or aluminum containers with a thick base, the underside of this base being erected in order to ensure its intimate contact with the surface of the dish. hotplate for electrical or other appliances.
Such a production gives rise to drawbacks, because when it comes to cast iron containers, the relatively strong thickness given to the flat bottom further increases the weight of the container made of the same metal as this thick bottom, which which, in some cases, makes it difficult to handle these containers.
In addition, the difficulties of manufacturing aluminum containers with a thin wall and a thick bottom increase considerably.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the cost price of these.
The object of the present invention is to obviate the drawbacks which have just been mentioned and makes it possible to establish a light container of inexpensive manufacture.
To this end, according to the invention, the body of the container itself, or the entire container, is made of pressed sheet metal, while the bottom of said container consists essentially of a mass of cast iron, by any molding process, in the cavity formed by the sheet metal bottom of the container and a peripheral flange also made of sheet metal, provided at the lower part of this container, the lower face of the cast iron base thus formed then being erected after the assembly has been enameled.
By way of illustration, some embodiments of the subject of the invention are described below with reference to the appended schematic drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a fragment of a kettle whose sheet metal bottom on which the thickness of cast iron is applied is uniformly flat.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1, showing a sheet metal bottom having a circular stamping.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1, showing a concave shaped sheet metal bottom.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2, showing a sheet metal bottom, the stamped part of which is intended to be filled with another metal which is a good conductor of heat.
Coma shown in Fig. 1, the sheet metal side wall a of the container extends beyond the flat sheet metal bottom 11 by a stamped or knurled circular collar g having a rib d. In the example shown, the collar c is
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
constituted by the extension of the wall a, but it is understood that said flange can be formed in any suitable way, either by stamping with the container, or by welding or by crimping.
This being the case, the cavity formed by the collar s. and the bottom h is filled with molten cast iron by the usual molding processes, so as to form the mass or cast iron bottom e, which constitutes with the bottom h and the collar c, a very homogeneous whole.
The assembly thus obtained is then subjected to the enamelling process, after which the face of the bottom e which will serve as a heat exchange surface between the cooking plate and the container, is drawn up in order to ensure intimate contact of this face with the said heating plate.
As shown in Fig. 2, the sheet metal bottom h, instead of being uniformly flat, may have a circular or other stamping, such as f, which stamping may optionally be more pronounced, as shown in f1 (Fig. 4) to allow the cavity thus formed to receive a thickness g of another metal which is a good conductor of heat, to which the base e will be welded during the casting thereof.
Finally, as shown in Fig. 3, the tale bottom 11 of the container has a concave shape, while the flange c is attached to the wall a by welding at h.
It is understood that the sheet metal bottom h could equally well be convex or affect any other profiles than those shown in the drawings, so that, depending on the case, the effects of expansion during casting are compensated for and that the contact between the sheet h and the cast iron bottom E is perfectly intimate. This contact can moreover be made by possible intercalation of a product ensuring the welding of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
bottom & at the bottom of the container.
Likewise, the flange c may comprise several ribs 1 or other equivalent cutouts intended to surround the cast iron mass e serving as a heat exchanger, said mass may moreover consist in particular of copper, bronze, aluminum or any other suitable material, and the outer surface may be dressed by turning, grinding, milling or any other suitable process.
It goes without saying that the invention which has been described and illustrated in its application to a kettle, could be applied effectively to all other types of household receptacles, such as saucepans generally of any kind, coffee makers, milk cookers. , rinses, farts, frying pans, etc.
